Typically Pickle Patch is my recommendation when people ask me where to eat. The food is great, but the experience really determines if I would return (or make recommendations to others). Bad customer service definitely ruins any dining experience. This afternoon has changed the view I had of this establishment. I asked if I could order a Chicken Ceasar Salad with no dressing on the salad, but sub ranch on the side. The cashier said "Sure, alot of people do it" , I didnt feel I was asking much, and she didn't tell me it couldn't be done (in fact on one of my several visits I got it as requested). When the order came the salad was tossed with dressing, I'm watching my calories closely, which is why I asked for the dressing on the side so I could control my portion. I let the wait staff know that the order was incorrect and she said she would TRY to get it fixed. She returned 5 minutes later with the same salad and said "Sorry, I couldn't get it fixed, and we don't give refunds". At this time my party is also getting disturbed by this result and asks for the manager. The manager comes out and after I explain what I had ordered she tells me "Even though you ordered ranch, it is still a Ceasar salad, and EVERYBODY knows a Ceasar salad is tossed", essentially calling me stupid. Taken back by this approach to solving the issue I replied, "Yes, a Ceasar is typically tossed, however, I ordered with no dressing and to have it on the side. Your counter staff did not object to my request or say it couldn't be done when I was charged ($17.43, for the sale and iced tea)". She then picks up the salad and says "This is how it is, I have to throw this away and waste food, and I don't like wasting food, that is why I will not have it remade". (Wasting food is not a good thing however, the waste would not have occurred if the request was not dishonored for the sake of "EVERYBODY knows a Ceasar is TOSSED"). One of my companions spoke up "The reason she asked for it on the side was for her dietary need, had the counter staff had told her that she wouldn't be accommodated I am sure she would have chosen something else". The managers rebuttal "We have 150 people walk through our door every day, we can't do this for everyone who comes in." The manager did, after demeaning my intelligence ("EVERYBODY knows") and trying to guilt trip me into taking it anyways, finally acquiesce and a new salad was brought out...with the dressing on the side. It is a shame of how this experience has soured my view of the Pickle Patch. I never expected such a disconnect in customer service. My recommendation, The Pickle Patch should invest in the customer service training "Give 'em the pickle" (look it up, it's a real thing) and learn how to serve their guests with respect and mild accommodation. read more

Not that there are many places to eat in San Andreas but this place has really good sandwiches. Its larger than you think, lots of outdoor seating, a bummer if it were to rain because there is limited indoor seating. The pickles are better than the normal kosher pickles but they are still kosher (a negative for me). Does anyone serve just regular dill pickles anymore? Kosher is horrible. A Pepsi soda fountain would be a great addition to this place so you can refill your drink as opposed to having to buy single cans. Very friendly service. read more

So this place is adorable and I've been a few different times. Never had any complaints. I actually do not complain much and am always so grateful for small gems like this one. However, I'm sad to say today's visit was the reason I will never visit the pickle patch again. My sister and I both ordered Cobb salads and after already eating a few bites, I noticed there were live bugs on the lettuce. My parents haul produce and I buy organic, so I understand this type of thing happens occasionally. But the amount of bugs (there were A LOT) made me think I should probably let the staff know. So I took a few pieces up for them to see. The young girls at the register were the sweetest things and so understanding. I explained I didn't want to make a scene, I just wanted to let them know so they could check the lettuce on future orders since it was right at their lunch boom. They told me they would get the manager. Well, the manager was NOT PLEASANT in the slightest, she was actually pretty terrible. She acted as though I did something wrong, she was incredibly defensive as if I were blaming her, she made me feel terrible for even considering a refund, and she ultimately told me she was too busy to deal with this. I was shocked at her behavior. The bug problem can be fixed by awareness and washing better next time, her attitude however, will likely never change. She is clearly not receptive to feedback regarding the food leaving their kitchen and is not interested in using it to improve and grow. And that's too bad because this place could be super awesome. read more

Always good salads and sandwiches. The setting is also nice. It gets busy at lunch, but that's what happens when you are the popular spot in town. I've been lucky enough to have Pickle Patch catering at a couple of events and the food was top notch! I hope they bring that salmon into the deli sometime soon. read more

Best sandwiches around! This is a great little spot that my family and I have enjoyed for the past 15 years, the Pickle Patch just celebrated their 20th anniversary of being open and you can still find the owner working behind the counter with a smile. My favorite is the smoked turkey and to get it with a side of their tasty red potato salad and a cold iced tea. They have a nice screened in area for the colder days and an expansive patio to enjoy during warmer weather. One thing I have yet to try is their live music on Wednesday's I think it is, sounds like a blast. Keep it up Pickle Patch, food is awesome and staff is super friendly read more

I love, love, LOVE the pickle patch. Such a yummy place to go for lunch. It is open year round, on the weekdays only. They are available for catering and such on the weekend. They serve a breakfast (more like brunch), and lunch, but no dinner. It is great for a few friends or a larger group. I love to sit out in the garden when it's nice, or on the patio near a heater when it's cold. Their are little bikes and such for the kiddies scattered around. They have a fountain and I think they are putting in another. They are expanding their outdoor area, and it is looking even nicer if that was possible. Inside I love the kitschy decor :) The service is great, as is the food. My favorites are the Anna Sprout, or the taco salad (one of their rotating specials). The Peter Piper Sandwich is also tasty. They have a nice standard menu, and they also have daily specials. I hear their hamburgers are fantastic (sorry I can't say for myself as I am a vegetarian). Their sides are great as well, I love the macaroni salad, and the brocoli salad. Nothing beats a tall glass of lemonaid or iced tea to go with your meal. The prices are good, they take cash, check, and credit card (over a certain amount, I think it's fifteen dollars.. but I'm not sure). read more

Really great lunch spot, but extremely busy during the week during lunchtime. I've called ahead three times to order my food and it wasn't ready when I arrived. I gave them twenty minutes each time and they even told me when it will be ready. I had to wait to receive my order. Given that they charge the prices that they do I would expect quicker service, but I won't come back during my work lunch. I would appreciate better communication on telling me when my order will be ready. Unfortunately will only eat here when I know I can relax and don't have to rush. read more

Like another Yelper, I too encountered rudeness from the staff. It was my first visit to the Pickle Patch. I was not aware of how things are done there and the menu was a lot to take in. I felt completely rushed and I also felt like the entire staff thought I was hilarious because I didn't know the drill. I dined in a small room alone, but part of my order was to go, as I was also ordering for a friend to take back to them. But while I sat waiting for the order to be prepared, I overheard a lot of rude comments and attitude from the staff members. There was one voice in particular that I thought was absolutely over-the-top, flagrantly snotty. I later found out that it was the owner. She was being a jackass to her staff and being abrupt with patrons that were ordering. We both selected the the Tri-Tip sandwich. I have to say that there was nothing impressive about our meals and I also thought $22 for two standard-fare sandwiches was insanely outrageous. I remember very little about the food that day and my friend felt the same way. Like yet another Yelper, I don't know what made me go back for a second time. I guess I felt like I needed to give them another chance. I thought that maybe the day of my previous visit something might have happened before I arrived that had created an atmosphere of tension and there was just a slip in professionalism due to their frustration. On my second visit I was alone and planned to once again dine in the restaurant alone. But I received a text while I was there before I got my order and I had to leave, so I notified them that I needed it to go. You would have thought that I had asked them to wash my car. The salad was not overly impressive. I truly don't recall much about it except that every bite made me think of the $10 that was spent on some lettuce. If I'm not mistaken it was the Mediterranean Chicken salad, but frankly it was such a forgettable meal that I don't recall what the name of it was. I just remember making a vow to myself that I would not come back again to the Pickle Patch. I look at all these other reviews from other Yelpers and I wonder how they came to the conclusion that this place is some sort of gold mine for sandwiches. Well, if you talk about price for bread and a few basic ingredients tucked inside, it might as well be a gold mine for what they charge for a sandwich. Their hours are very limited. The staff was rude on my second visit as well. BOTTOM LINE: It breaks the bank to grab a dull, forgettable salad or typical sandwich at the Pickle Patch. So I really don't have any reason to go back there. If you enjoy being treated like something to be scraped off the bottom of someone's shoe while you're trying to place an order, and you don't mind paying three times the amount for something that you could make at home for a few dollars, this is a great spot for you. Have waited so long to try this place, is always crowded. I have to say very underwhelmed with the quality of the food. I had the special chili salad, it was presented nicely but no chili flavor at all seemed like vege soup with beans added. The other had the special BBQ pulled pork w/coleslaw the meat was chopped on a dice, might have been chicken, not sure and not even sure how to describe the BBQ sauce. Not good. I have been blessed to discover this place and make it a regular stop on my trips to Calaveras County. It is in a quirky little house that has been transformed into a fabulous lunch eatery. Whenever we want a fabulously delicious meal we drive all the way from Rancho to Pickle Patch. We have eaten there at least 100 times in the last years and have NEVER been disappointed. The sandwhichs are two meals! The "sides" are fabulous! The people that work there move faster than anywhere because there are soooo many customers. I appreciate that the wait is not long - because they really hustle. The garden area for dinning is a wonderful environment, they keep that up and makes me feel like I have gone somewhere very special. I have never seen a grumpy face, have seen harried people, have appreciated every bite of food! My husband eats there every Wednesday because he works at PAWS and I look forward to his return with lunch! The place is so popular during the summer that you better have an hour for lunch or call ahead with your order because it gets really crowded. They have gorgeous outdoor seating. I was amazed when I walked in. I thought it would just be a hole in the wall but as soon as you walk to through the patio .... BOOM!!! Space and more space. I have eaten at the pickle patch for years and have loved it! December 27th I brought my family to enjoy the food. My daughter is highly allergic to cheese. So when I ordered her a mediterranean chicken salad I specifically told the cashier three times she is highly allergic to cheese. Cashier repeated NO CHEESE, which i still have the receipt that is printed NO CHEESE. When my daughter was eating it she found a chuck of blue cheese it it! Blue cheese isn't even on the menu for that type of salad. We told the nice waitress and she tried to talk to the manager about the problem, she said the manager was to busy. So I tried to talk to her discreetly from the counter and she also told me she was to busy. She didn't stop working to even look at me! She just keep making sandwiches ignoring the situation. She finally gave in and said leave your name and number. I didn't because I had to make sure my daughter wasn't having a asthma attack from the cheese. I knew this was going nowhere. I live and work in the area and have went to Pickle Patch numerous times and have witnessed the owner yell at her employees in front of customers. I'm not sure why I ever went back, probably due to lack of restaurants. The food has been decent but today what I ordered they were out of, so I picked something else and they were out of that too, so the owner made what she made and yelled at her staff, forcing the staff to deliver a meal that I didn't order, a sandwich consisting of lettuce, tomato and a piece of cheese, all for around $8. read more

Not only is it located in a spot that is not easy to park in, the sandwich I ordered was dry and the staff was less than friendly. We had the pleasure of being at a wedding in Arnold that was catered by Pickle Patch. OMG the barrel cooked Tri-Tip and Chicken was unbelievably delicious, never have we tasted such flavor. Yum!! I took Gretel card in case I hear of anyone looking for caterer. Would love to stop in the deli next time we are in the area, try the cranberry and turkey sounds tasty or a BLT looked good on the menu as well. I was a little disappointed after eating here. I ordered the half of smoked turkey and a cup of the homemade broccoli cheddar soup. I asked for wheat bread and there was a 75 cent up charge and then a 25 cent charge for using my ATM card. The soup was extremely bland and watery, no amount of salt and pepper could help. Hard to believe this is rated only one $. I think it's moderately expensive as a sandwich shop. That being said, it is most likely the best sandwich shop in San Andreas. I'm not a soup-salad-sandwich person, which is bad because this is definitely a soup-salad-sandwich place. I will say this: The Chinese chicken salad is tasty, gigantic, and fresh-tasting. The BLTs are decent. The deli sides are decent. The side of bread that comes with the salad is superb. The atmosphere and abundant outdoor seating is fantastic. The soups are bland and underspiced each and every time. Wish they had more hot food besides soup (wraps, etc), but we can't be choosy in Calaveras County. This is where you go to hear county leaders gossip on their lunch break, and--if you live or work in San Andreas--this is "the safe place" to recommend to others who are just passing through. read more

I travel to San Andreas monthly for work but never stop for food. Today I was overworked and starving. So I stopped at the first place I saw -the Pickle Patch. I figured that anything with pickle in the name must be good. After ordering my coworker and I headed outside where there were three large and separate shaded areas for seating. They had at least 20 tables outside. There is limited seating inside also. About five minutes later we get our food. I got the pesto BLT -it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. My coworker got the BLT salad, said it was alright and felt there were too many ingredients in the salad. As we sat there eating the waiter kept bringing out other customer's plates and they all looked great, especially the burgers. read more

The Anna Sprout is the best vegetarian sandwich this side of San Francisco, I kid you not. Probably the best sandwiches in the tri county area, I am still sampling the wares though. Absolutely no complaints...just great food and service every time! I love that they have a different special and salad selection everyday that they are open. There isn't much to choose from in our area, but it wouldn't matter because this would still be my #1 pick. My whole family loves it. These guys do a fantastic job. We read the reviews and wanted a variety of salads for lunch, after camping up on the Stanislaus for three days. They have a fast system of ordering at counter and then you find a great outdoor table and they bring food out to you. Caesar salad, chinese chicken salad, walnut and cranberry salad with chicken - all top notch. The sides were wonderful too. Super friendly and easygoing place. Will return! read more
