There were four staff serving three tables, and it was quite a long wait for our food. We were pretty surprised by some of the language we heard the staff using among themselves, and when we were trying to order (at the counter) the staff were so busy talking to one another it wasn't easy to put the order in. These sandwiches/wraps restored my faith in sandwiches (tried their July 4th BBQ special, the turkey & bacon, & the BLAT). When I want a sandwich, this is what I imagine. I was actually sad when I finished my sandwich. I am not exaggerating. There was a wait as it was lunch hour, but as many people have said it was reasonable & totally worth it, & the staff are clearly working hard & are such nice people even when it was busy. Looking at the reviews here, maybe I'll have to try again. I got a roast beef on rye - pretty basic. It was ok, but I was hugely disappointed with the amount of roast beef. It was also pretty gloppy, making the bread fall to pieces. Maybe that was just the calibration I needed to know how to order next time? read more

The most incompetent and inefficient service I've experienced in a very long time. Walked out. I've been here many times and was looking forward to it. This staff was awful except for one young man trying to help, but got bulldozed by the shouting aggressive women and the customer seated near me shaking his head in shock and agreeing with me that the staff was making simple communication absolutely nonexistence. read more

Would you pay $10.45 for two of these? It was mostly bread..... The first 1/2 that I ate had fewer veggies than this. We had some friends over for the weekend, bought pickles deli sandwiches and went to the beach..... After eating 1/2 I asked everyone about their sandwiches. My partner loves this place so much. We came all the way from Northern California to visit family on Whidby island, and looked forward to this sandwich place more than anything! We were so incredibly disappointed that they are closed on Thursday's now. Some of the schedules around this island make no sense to us. Some places are closed Tuesday, some are closed Thursday, ultimately we just feel confused. It just really doesn't make sense. An entire day to prep? Food ordered: - Smoky Beast: 5/5 - Tender Roast beef with caramelized onions, sharp provolone cheese, tomato, all sandwiched between two crispy pieces of Rosemary bread (also comes with a wedge of their famous pickles - You can tell the pickles are good pickles since they are not too sour and have a nice flavor. But if you do not like pickles, this will not be life changing) The sandwich came with a good amount of really tender roast beef and the cheese. Oh man, the sharp provolone cheese was so delicious. - BLT panini : 5/5 - my friend ordered this and the waiter said this was his favorite. Panini with bacon, fried egg, tomato Service was great. Better than average sandwich shop on Whidbey Island. I've sampled several of their sandwiches over the years. They are consistently good, well prepared and served in a timely manner. Occasionally, they get bogged down at lunch which is their busy time. I'm sure they're having trouble getting good help like everyone else. That said several of the workers have been there for a few years, at least. So, management must be doing right by them. Give them a try. If you enjoy a good sandwich, you'll like Pickles. read more

I had a "sultry organic sandwich" of sharp cheese and fresh tomatoes on rustic bread with some awesome bean soup. They work their tails off there and are all business with a bit of charm. Nice beer choices and wine with drinks for the kiddos. Best sandwiches around. 5 STARS Pickles Crew! read more

I heard about this place while I was in line at a local grocery store. They said not to go at lunch time because it is crazy busy. So, I decided to go for an early dinner. (They close at 7:00 on most nights) They were so friendly when I came in. It was not very busy and a young man helped me by telling me some of his favorites. I ended up having a BBQ Stromboli with a side Caesar salad and a bacon Carmel pecan cookie which they warmed up for me. (It was fabulous!) The tables were meticulously clean, with fresh flowers in vases. They have free WIFI also. The Stromboli takes 20 minutes to cook, so they gave me my salad separately. The food is presented with style for a deli. (See pics) I got the feeling that these youth enjoyed working here and take pride in what they do. I would suggest trying this place out if you can. Hi! I've eaten here off and on when I'm on the island. I first had the spicy Italian 4 years ago and I thought it was one of the best Italian subs I'd ever eaten. I got it today and was super excited cause it's one of my favorite sandwiches and there was what seem like one slice of salami on it. Very disappointing for a $15 sandwich. I don't know if you're trying to save money by putting one slice of meat on sandwiches but I wouldn't buy it again. read more

The strip-mall location (a couple of miles right off the main road as you drive off the ferry at Clinton) didn't make me optimistic, but the to-go sandwiches were really great. I had the club, which was - as-club sandwiches tend to be - a really wide stretch for my mouth while driving. I knew what I was getting into. But the bacon was well-done, the meat was chilled, the veggies were fresh, and the rosemary bread was delicious. I would have liked some toasting, but they lived up to their advertising that it would be served cold, so I can't blame them for my preferences. The sliced pickles were, as I'd hoped, a highlight. My wife had the "B.E.L.T" which featured the classic BLT with a fried egg. She loved the combination. The inside of the location was actually quite fun, too, despite the strip mall look outside. Amazing sandwiches with large menu. We tried the phili cheese steak and the Reuben and they were honestly the best sandwich we'd ever had. The matcha mint hot chocolate is amazing, not overwhelmingly sweet as most other places. I will definitely recommend going here. read more

Yum! This was such a good last minute choice while staying at the Inn in Langley. This must be a local gem, I've had my fair share of sandwiches and this place gets rave reviews from both my partner and I. He got the cheesesteak and I got the Smokey beast. The quality of the ingredients was excellent and the bread was perfection. I shouldn't be as surprised but I really wasn't expecting all that much from a sandwich. If you are in Langley and need a place for takeout, hotel eating in, picnics or just because this is a little sandwich shop that can't be skipped.
