Huge sandwiches right outside the Whidbey Navy base. I had the BLT that was loaded with smoky bacon, and the bread cut so thick it's a challenge to take a bite. Family members had the chicken wrap that was equally huge. We were lucky enough to come on a Friday when they have chowders, and their smoked salmon chowder is very tasty with lots of fish. Service is relatively quick, there's no seating (take out only), and the parking lot is limited. But definitely worth a visit when you're on the island!

Definitely one of those sandwiches that makes you stop talking for a minute because you're too busy enjoying every bite. So good! Roast beef 10/10 5 's

My first time to this place. Great grab and go place near base gate. Pleasant and friendly. Good menu options. I order the pastrami. My Sammie was huge, NO slimy wet meat like some other places. Very fresh produce and the horseradish aioli was perfect. The sourdough roll was very fresh and did not fall apart. Love that they have a punch card too. I'll Def be back.

I have been hearing about this sandwich place for awhile and I finally had the opportunity to check it out. It's located off Goldie Road and is very easy to find, especially right now. There's a giant waving chef at the entrance to their parking area! After arriving I walked up to the ordering window, looked over the menu and specials board and decided on the Island Trollers Tuna Melt. In only 6 minutes I was served up my tuna melt on sourdough bread that included a pickle wedge and a few paper napkins. There are no tables to sit at, strictly take away eats at Slab City Sammies. Once I got to somewhere to eat my sandwich I realized what a treat it is. Some have said that the sandwiches are over priced, but they are very nice sandwiches and I thoroughly enjoyed mine!

Excellent place!!!! They were both really nice, giving us advice about Fort Ebey and how to wear out the granddaughters! Tuna melt was delicious, slightly messy but still yummy. Pastrami was wonderful!! The extra strong mustard really took it to the next level. Two solid sandwiches. No photo of pastrami sandwich.... We ate it at Fort Ebey State Park while watching the sun set.

The sandwiches were so tasty! This place doesn't have any inside dining, so expect to take it to go. It's tucked away in an "industrial" lot. I do wish the sandwiches came toasted... I think it would've made the sandwich even tastier. The broccoli cheddar soup had a lil kick to it as well. Super nice folks who work outta here!

Don't be discouraged when you are driving into an industrial neighborhood, the Slab City Sammies is there! It is a drive up or call in your order situation. We got ours and took it to a park. It is the epitome of a hole in the wall. The staff were super friendly, and made an amazing sandwich! When we are in Oak Harbor this is the only spot we will go to have a sandwich!

Pastrami Sammie great sandwich....fresh bread and fresh ingredients.

Fantastic roast beef sandwich! I'll be back to try the Chicken Caesar next. I can't believe I've waited this long to try it.

We went between lunch and dinner, so there was no wait, which was perfect. Kristen took great care of us -- she was incredibly nice, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered the halibut sandwich, surf & turf, and a side of prawns, and everything was excellent. The portion sizes were just right -- satisfying without being overwhelming. The halibut was perfectly cooked, moist, and flavorful. The steak was perfectly seasoned, incredibly tender, and a really nice cut. And the prawns were crispy and delicious! Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Seabolt's. Great food, friendly service, and a laid-back Whidbey Island atmosphere. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're craving good seafood!

I discovered Chef in the Black Bandana by accident while conducting some business next door…read more For those that know Zanini's restaurant, Black Bandana has taken over their location under Frasier's Gourmet Hideaway on Dock St. After talking with the hostess, I found out the chef has over 30 years experience and the hostess is also the front manager and she has over 30 years of managerial experience. I perused the menu on a large chalkboard and chose the Emmer Spaghetti and added the optional meatballs. While waiting for my meal I discovered that they might have cannolis! I asked about getting a cannoli and was told that they would need to see if there was enough ingredients for one. I was in luck and was able to order one! The spaghetti was very well prepared and cooked. I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce and the homemade pasta. The meatballs were the highlight in my opinion! The background music was playing "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang and there's a line that asks "what is your pleasure" and I thought "right now? This meatball and the spaghetti!" Then I was handed my cannoli and I was amazed at the flavors and textures! One end was dipped in chocolate chips and the other end in pistachio pieces ! The filling had a slight citrus flavor and of course the shell was nice and crispy. I was very pleased with the meal and dessert. In the photo you may notice that my spaghetti was served in a plastic container. Keep in mind The Chef in the Black Bandana just opened 8 days ago and they are still working through the startup process. In fact, their official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting is April 26th.

The market inside is well decorated and lends itself to an old-time traditional Italian feeling. The service was nice (the woman working the counter was sweet as could be). As for food we ordered the Emmer Spaghetti, Summer Cavatelli and Spicy Milano. The pastas were very fresh tasting, as they make the pasta in house themselves. I found the Cavatelli to be well balanced. It was a great carrier for the fresh heirloom tomatoes and english peas. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly al dente. The sandwich was fantastic. They make the bread in house and it definitely shows in all the best ways. It was crusty, chewy and a great vessel for the meat. The only qualm I have about the place is the price; it feels a bit high for what you receive, especially in the case of the spaghetti. Over all I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a casual Italian deli with fresh house made food, and who doesn't mind spending a little extra to support a small business.

They have menus by the window, and you order at the counter, we found ample seating near the windows to look upon the passerbyers. We ordered cold items so they wouldn't take too long up prep; a side of macaroni salad, a Keegan-the-Vegan sandwich and a Honey Lavender Latte to share. Everything was lovely and a perfect portion for us, splitting the sandwich and the creamy mac salad. The sandwich had curried chickpea salad and it was delicious! The Lavender Latte was perfection, not to sweet but a yes in the lavender world. We overheard others come in specifically for their cookies, so we grabbed a coco loco to go. There is some street parking, but we ended up parking in a public parking lot north of the cafe. The place is cute and charming, and it's decorated with art that is for sale. The menu on the wall was just for drinks, and their food menu was laminated nearby for us to peruse. We had a nice chat with JJ (who I think is the co-owner), and he was very bubbly and nice. It was fun to witness his kindness to other customers and neighbors as they came in. This place seems very involved with the community. There are a few tables both outside and inside. The TV behind us was playing Pandora for radio music. Nearby, they had some free chocolate-covered coffee beans and your own water and silverware station. I got an Arnold Palmer, and boy, was it tart! I got my own sugar to try to sweeten it up. I also ate the Ricky Ricardo panini, and it wasn't my favorite. The aioli wasn't flavorful enough for me to notice, or maybe it was missing, and the pickles were too thick. I didn't love the flavor profile on this sandwich, and it was pretty hot (in temperature) to eat, so I had to let it cool down a bit. Connor loved his smoked salmon toast! There were a ton of capers, so lots of salt there. The herbed cream cheese was the star of the show, with the flavorful toast being a close second. He really appreciated it. I think I'd be happy to come back and try a different sandwich.
