In a town literally awash with mediocre tourist dives featuring loud bad music calling themselves 'Sports Bars' this place is somewhat of an oasis. The music was almost all reggae and mostly really good, and they had about 20 screens they were happy to change to whatever. A group of us went to Sandbar for their 1/2 price taco Tuesday. The place was relatively dead so we figured it would be a quick dinner. Not only did the food take forever, the food was disgusting. I got the Baja and carne asada tacos, which both came out cold and soggy as if they were just microwaved. Friends tried the chowder and plantains, again, both cold and bland. The food is always very good here, and there is an awesome selection, but the bartenders generally do far more talking to each other than the customers and/or often disappear. They have no compliance with Covid regulations whatsoever, as no employees are in masks, and they flaunt this with a sign outside stating "mask free zone". Live music is insanely loud, so don't expect to have a conversation, but the talent was excellent! Great time watching the World Cup here. Andre was working the bar and he must be the busiest person on the island. He was pleasant, attentive, and quick to serve. Crab chowder was good and had a decent amount of crab in it. Definitely a chowder and not a she crab soup. Sampler platter was a good way to try a bunch of different stuff. I learned I'm not a conch fritter fan, but my friend said these were actually a good version of them. Onion rings had chunky breading. Coconut shrimp wasn't too coconutty. So, a couple times a year, I find myself down in Key West on business for a couple weeks at a time. During those time frames, I can't even tell you how often I find myself inside of Sandbar. As far as a laid back atmosphere, great beer choices, and fantastic food goes..you've got it all here. It's honestly the first and last place I go when I'm in town. I highly recommend their Baja Mahi Wrap and chips & salsa. Every time I go in and attempt to scan the menu, it never fails that I end up going with that particular dish. Do yourself a favor and check it out whenever you're down. It's not directly off of Duval, so the hustle and bustle isn't right in your face..which I particularly enjoy personally. read more

I was visiting Key West with a friend and stopped by this place. I have my regular favorite places in Key West so I usually go to those. However we tried Sandbar the first day and absolutely loved it! Had the Tuna Tataki and it was so fresh and delicious! Ended up coming all three days! The onion rings are awesome, the stone crab soup is delicious, my favorite wings were the Carolina BBQ, the fish tacos amazing and my favorite was the Mahi melt!! Great service, great food... Hit or miss with service, and today was no different. Had a great time over the weekend, but on a Monday with a limited crowd the service was off. Had to go the bar to reorder drinks several times, never informed of happy hour, food took 20+ minutes to make it to the table....ummm no! Highly unprofessional management! During a UFC fight night their server refused me service because they were too busy. Then when a couple we didn't know sitting at part of the same table ran out on their bill they got pissed at us and made my friend pay for it or they'd call the cops. The service, even with a medium to small sized crowd at the time, is terrible, at best. It's almost as if they purposely avoid tending to their guests. This didn't just happen to us, but it was clearly happening with every other table in the place. The entire time I received horrible service from the lone bartender Stephanie near the main entrance who was very inattentive. She asked and served individuals to my left and right repeatedly asking if they needed anything when my glass was completely empty. When closing my tab I provided my debit card and CAC card (Standard identification for active duty uniformed service personnel, Selected Reserve, DoD civilian employees.) to her who then felt the need to get the manager later identified as Joe. Joe questioned the authenticity of the CAC card and insisted it was fake. He was trying to scratch and snap it, and repeatedly asked why it didn't have my date of birth on it. I explained that it is how it was issued to me and is the current standard. Thinking maybe he is asking to verify if I am of age, I offered to show him my drivers license to prove my date of birth. He refused and said he didn't know why my CAC card doesn't have my date of birth on it because all of his friends that are in the military has it. I guess he checks the authenticity of his "friend's" card as well. When I tried to explain it further to him and offered to show my orders he called me a smart A%%. I am LIVID right now. LIVID! We went to Sandbar Sports Grill Key West to watch the fight. We had dinner here before, went to another place for the fight, but came back because we figured it was a better place to watch it. The only two seats in the whole place were with this older couple. We ask to sit with them, they said sure and let us sit. Sit for about an hour and a half, barely make conversation, then we notice they leave. We had a few other friends come sit with us, then all the sudden the waiter brings it to our attention that they didn't pay their bill, so guess who they try to push it onto? US. They accused us of being affiliated with these dine and dashers, threatened to call the cops and make us clean the restaurant because we refused to pay a 170 dollar bill that didn't even include OUR TWO COKES AND 1 CORONA on it. They didn't even try to hear us out, look at footage for proof or anything. Long story short, Brandon ended up fronting the bill. We went on a Sunday during NFL playoff football. The place was packed. We were worried about the service. After 5 minutes, our concerns were eliminated. We've never seen a group work so hard, yet pay attention to details. Multiple employees checked on us. The food was great. We couldn't believe how week they did under such pressure. Worst experience. The service was horrible. Our waitress was drunk and 4 out of six of us either did not get our drink order or got the wrong food order. The steak in my carne asada taco was not fresh. When the checks came, all of them were wrong. It took forever to get anything we asked for and to correct the checks.
