Pokemon Day Out event at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 6 was so fun! I never been to this pier until…read morethe event. We went on Sunday which was the last day of the event. The event was organized for the most part. But we didn't have issue going through the entrance since we had tickets. The map and the way they set up was explanatory. The staffs were friendly for the most part. We did see one or two looks like they were done for the day (no smile or enthusiasm energy). There were a lot of fun interactive games such as coloring station, tossing beans bags, matching tiles, and fishing game. You and your family can freely wonder around. There were lived performances of Pokemon characters dancing with children on stages at some point. There were photo booths where family and friends can take photos and print them out. The point epic experience for me was the "Meet and Greet" booth. I got to meet Snorlax and Quaxly! I had so much fun meeting them and taking photos with them. They are so cute! This event definitely brings me back to my inner childhood. Everyone at the event seemed to be very happy. Though sadly, we didn't get a pack of fun cards at the end of the event. They ran out of the cards. We ended getting an Pokemon eraser which is still something better than nothing. Overall, it was pretty fun and would love to see these kind of events happen again soon!

As I'm kicking around in the daisy's, big dog has other ideas of a hoot and a holler. He jailbreaks at an unsuspecting hound, a sizable hound at that, tall leggy proportions, trim at the quarters -- thinner necked and bigger headed. Catastrophe averted somehow and the AstroTurf is the closest replica to real grass, stringy as this breed might be - which it is. Like Poa Anna turf that's prominent in Hawaii. And we continued on towards the main soccer field the grass field looked quite the same with exceptional bounce and spring, I felt the decathloner in me and bounced along to the other side. With it's understandably poor upkeep, ya know -- cutbacks, cutbacks, the park has a spirit to it, like a drunkard whose not been home for a day or so and is in bad need of a shower, a shave and a change of clothes.

There are huge enclosed fields, some with artificial turf for soccer. I saw people running track, exercising and walking their dogs. It is a Loop trail, I started at the parking lot and went around the front through the little walkway that leads to the fields. I let my dog into a giant field where the gat can be closed and let her run. Then we walked towards the water and you see a trail start. A little ominous on a cloudy day and not many people but we kept going. The trail goes along the water line. Carcasses of boats along the coast probably from Sandy but interesting to see. Trail loops back to the parking lot. Not a hike but a nice walk, we did 1.41 miles. The only thing I didn't like was not a bench anywhere along the trail. I have a dachshund that likes to sit on benches when she's getting tired. I have to say it's pretty clean! Olive usually finds every chicken bone or other garbage, she found none here so it was a good walk. I'm using bending down twenty times to pull something out of her mouth Nice place to exercise your dog in the field, clean, garbage cans along the trail. I'll be going back.

There's various activities available to do here including walking, taking a seat to overlook the water or people-watch, picnic, BBQ or grill, fishing, and running or jogging. Fort Greene Park is a big green hilly square, covered in old trees and lush grass. The crown of the park is the Prison Ship Martyr's Monument, that marks the lives of 11,000 people held captive by the British in ships in Wallabout Bay. PLAYGROUNDS - two, one on the south east corner for 5 and under and one on the west side that is good for all ages. The south east playground has a water sprinkler, four swings, and play equipment. The west side playground has a big kid playground with two ten foot high lookout towers, a water sprinkler shaped like a compass, six bucket swings, and a toddler sized playground. The west side playground also has bathrooms, which are well... used frequently. RANGER STATION - The station has restrooms, water fountains outside, and an assortment of critters (corn snake, stick bugs, gold fish). You can pick up a map to follow the "Tree Trail," bird watching brochure, or nature scavenger hunt. A junior ranger program also supports kids and teens in the neighborhood. The station is next to a mini fort that invites kids to climb, play look out, and creates a little space to gather. FARMER'S AND MAKER'S MARKET - Saturday Mornings! A great selection of veggies, fruit, flowers, honey, cider, baked goods, clothing/compost drops. Vendors leave when things sell out. Makers markets seem to rotate, but there's usually coffee, jewelry, baskets, clothing, soap, perfume, and something for dogs. VOLUNTEERING - Fort Greene Park Conservancy organizes gardening and community events that always need a hand. DOG POLICY - while there is no official dog park, there is a very robust dog community that shows up at off leash hours (before 9am and after 9pm). Park rangers will patrol at 9am sharp to enforce leashes on. Lawns open for off leash hours will rotate seasonally to help the grass grow. Please be a responsible pet owner, it can get rowdy. SPORTS - a basketball court and calisthenics equipment (Myrtle side), tennis court (middle), abundant hills for sledding in the winter. JOGGING - the outer perimeter of the park has a jogging trail, people tend to go counterclockwise. Its a mile and there are hills. Runners tend to be respectful. Path is dirt and gravel. EVENTS - summer movie nights! hop along andrew playing music for the kids! musical events! Drum line practice! Buskers! Dog costume contest for Halloween! Dance workshops with Cumbe! Holiday Tree lighting! NATURE - lots of huge old trees, well kept gardens and pollinator flower beds. Look out for the hawks that nest here in spring, woodpeckers, and song birds. BBQ and PICNIC TABLES: BBQ is Myrtle side of the park. Additional picnic table on the east side, Washington and Willoughby, north of the baby playground. First come first served, there is no reservation system.

This is where Brooklynites usually hang out after dinner or have an outdoor dinner with the family or fishing. As a person who was born and raised in Brooklyn, I really did not come here enough! When I was younger, my parents would drive by for the view or bike across Cesar's Bay through here. I recently started to come here again, thanks to Pokemon Go! This nice little park tucked in between Eastern Parkway, Classon Avenue, and Washington Avenue, is…read morenamed after Dr. Ronald Erwin McNair, the second African-American astronaut to travel into space[1], who died in the space shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. A bronze portrait sculpture and reliefs depicting Dr. McNair's life by artist Ogundipe Fayomi[2] are installed on a red marble obelisk at the center of the park. The park was originally named after Brooklyn borough President Joseph Guider. In fact, there is a sculpture at the South side of the park remembering him. The park was named after Dr. McNair in 1986, the same year as the Challenger disaster. Towards the North side of the park there are benches and tables, and there are benches along the side of the park. The very south tip is actually fully enclosed by a fence, which is helpful if you are bringing a dog here, or a toddler who likes to run around. Or if you want to play the trumpet[3]. What I really like is the magnolia and cherry trees in this park. During COVID, when the Brooklyn Botanic Garden across the street was closed, the trees in McNair Park were the closest thing to the cherry blossom blooming festival/Sakura Matsuri you could get in Brooklyn. During the time they were in blossom in the spring of 2020, the cherry trees and magnolia trees at McNair Park provided a reminder that, in stressful times, you can still find beauty, peace, and an opportunity to just relax, albeit temporarily, next to home. ------------------ [1] Guion S.
