Our bartender Avery was amazing and provided impeccable service. We intentionally sat at the bar because of the view. The food however was not so good. My visits to Pier 6 Seafood & Oyster House have been amazing. Sitting on the patio with the bay breeze made everything even better the last visit. I started with the raw oysters, and they were some of the freshest I've had--briny, cold, and perfect with the mignonette. Then came the lobster roll, packed with buttery, tender lobster in a perfectly toasted roll. Simple, but so good. The real highlight for my daughter was the crab mac and cheese--rich, cheesy, and loaded with crab. Absolute comfort food. The cocktails were just as impressive. I was whisked away for girls' night, but this venue would make an excellent location for anniversaries, birthdays, or any day you'd like to enjoy a beautiful sunset over the lake. Abby was the most enthusiastic, thoughtful, and patient server, adding to our enjoyment of the atmosphere (although note to management, I suspect more tables would be filled if the ladies were wearing more clothes). On my list for next time: a griddled halloumi salad (new-to-me cheese that is mild, springy, salty, with smoke from the grill) served Mediterranean-style with heirloom and cherry tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, and dill with the richest olive oil. It was light and tantalizing! The Redfish was a little nutty for me, so I opted instead for "The Diplomat" - a classic burger made fancy with fixin's and fries. We shouldn't have, but taking a Blueberry Lemon Cake home was an extravagance worth the wait. This place is definitely off the beaten path, but if you know where to look, you'll find it. You can get here either by boat or car, which is pretty cool. I'd recommend making a reservation, though, because it does get busy, especially on weekends. The ambiance here is really something special. They've got TVs everywhere, so you can catch your favorite sports teams no matter where you sit. There's a main bar inside and another one outside, giving you plenty of seating options--whether you want to be inside, out on the patio, or down by the boat dock. Speaking of the patio, it's fantastic. There's an area right by the dock with chairs, giant Jenga, and even cornhole--perfect for hanging out with friends or family. The outdoor patio also has these cozy two-person wicker swing chairs, which are great for relaxing while enjoying the beautiful water view. There's even a scenic pier lined with palm trees that you can walk down. The food was good for what we ordered, but honestly, I think I enjoyed the vibe and atmosphere even more. Watching boats sail up and people hopping off them gave it such a laid-back, coastal feel. It reminded me of gumbo by the looks of it but unsure what it tastes like. Just kept trying to eat to figure what the flavor is and felt sick from it & such a waste but couldn't even eat up to half of it. Kids meals were generous portion. My kids enjoyed their Mac n cheese. Chicken & fries. Overall if you're in the area check it out but if you're driving out like we did definitely not worth the one hour drive. So the weather was perfect for brunch on the water - so a quick reservation was made on the Resy app for exactly when we wanted. We waited about 3-4 mins for our table on the indoor/outdoor patio with the sliding floor to ceiling windows open. Perfect. We then had a sweet server come take our drink orders. Pier 6 is a waterfront restaurant down in San Leon, Texas. It's owned by the family who owns Prestige Oysters Inc, a long standing seafood distributor based in the area, that supplies Greater Houston and Galveston with much of the local fresh seafood we rave about at other restaurants. They partnered with Chef Joe Cervantez, previously of Killen's Steakhouse and the executive chef at Brennan's respectively, and opened Pier 6 in late 2020. San Leon overall is a sleepy small coastal town often left in the shadows of its neighbor to the North, Kemah, and their tourist favorite The Kemah Boardwalk. But if you drive a little further and take that one road straight to the water, you'll find Pier 6. The restaurant is much nicer than the usual wooden patio restaurant bar, fried seafood platter and a beer, type places dotted along the coast. They offer indoor seating at their large bar, and various tables including a sun room with great views of the water through big windows. If you really want to take in the view, and some fresh sea air, they also offer tables out on their covered patio area. The restaurant overall is modern and clean, but showing some wear and tear after being open for nearly 4 years and constantly exposed to salt water and dining traffic. It's still a whole lot nicer than most of, if not all, the other options around the area, but if you're motoring in from Houston or beyond, it may be a little scuffed up compared to finer dining in town. Bring those expectations though, and you'll be fine. The menu offers a wide range of mostly seafood, and a lot of it local. They have oysters aplenty, raw and char broiled, as well as a seafood platter for the table consisting of various crudo, oysters, shrimp, crab, etc. to share. I'll include a pic of the menu, but overall expect seafood, and a few land based safe picks to boot. (hamburger, steaks, and chicken) We were a large group and ordered a large portion of the menu, and I'll say the one thing that really stood out to me, was presentation. Chef Joe used to work in fine dining, and it shows on every plate that came to our table. Not only was the food fantastic but we were all pleasantly surprised by the plating. Some of the entrees were in the upper $20's to lower $30's range, but came out looking like double the price. One rub for us was the service unfortunately. You can't blame Pier 6 too much considering they're working with who they have nearby to employ. You're not going to get that top level career waitstaff in San Leon. Instead most of the waitstaff seemed to be Summer employees on break from college or high school, and other early 20's locals. The timing for ordered drinks and food wasn't great. We found ourselves craning our necks here and there wondering where our waitress ran off to a couple of times. Our waitress had long acrylic nails that hung over the edge of the plates she was handling and at times they even touched our food.... It was just a series of distractions that detracted from our overall very positive takeaways regarding the view and excellent food. If you're craving seafood and a great view to accompany it, keep Pier 6 high on your list as a diamond in the rough. read more

Lucky to be able to get a "sail in" last minute reservation on Easter Sunday. Met the family for a cruise from Clear Lake to Kemah and San Leon. Called as we docked the boat. Had a short wait, but able to get a table overlooking the bay. Enjoyed the swings and the fresh sea air. Saw the Easter bunny making his rounds. Ordered from the Easter Feature Menu. The seared grouper was delicious. Ricotta and goat cheese stuffed mezzaluna pasta and a decadent sweet corn sauce with peas and a carrot puree served a a base for the grouper. So good. This should be a regular feature. My brother-in-law raves about the pecan wood grilled chicken served with truffled mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The redfish was also very good. Because we enjoyed our experience, but missed a couple items that weren't on the menu. --- --- --- Despite the fact that I live way up in the north suburbs of Houston, I've wanted to visit Pier 6 for a long time. My family lives on the south side, so during a visit to see them, we finally made the 100+ minute trek to San Leon. During the road trip, I was scouring the menu in the passenger seat and was excited about the shrimp po boy. My wife did her research before we left and saw a salad that looked really appealing. Unfortunately, when we arrived, neither item was on the menu, which was a bummer. So we called an audible and went with the following: Seafood Fondue: 5-stars. This comes with some delicious bread, which isn't the easiest to use as a dipper, but the juice is worth the squeeze. We ended up ordering a 2nd round of bread just because we enjoyed it so much. Oysters on the Half Shell: 5-stars. These were a home run and fortunately, the only thing I didn't have to share because my wife is not an oyster fan. I don't really know how to describe it, but these oysters just had a bit more body to them. Some people are much bigger oyster connoisseurs than me, so I am going to do a poor job explaining why I liked them. For the most part, you put some cocktail sauce and horseradish on them, and that's mostly what I always taste. That was the case here and I really enjoyed them. Lobster Roll: 4-stars. We love lobster rolls, but prefer them hot with butter, rather than with coleslaw. This coleslaw was better than average, which made up for the lack of hot, butteriness a bit. However, it was also super small. Brussels Sprouts: 5-stars. We didn't plan on ordering these, but our server talked them up and she was right. They were excellent. Among the best I've ever had. Crab Mac-n-Cheese: 3-stars. This was fine. It certainly wasn't bad, but wasn't a must have. It could have been a bit warmer too. The vibe and design is an easy 5-stars. Those responsible for the interior design really knocked it out of the park. It's kind of odd when you're driving in, as it doesn't feel like the greatest area, despite the waterfront and occasional super nice house with a view. And then all of the sudden, there's Pier 6 just kind of sitting there by itself. It feels like a restaurant in a nice hotel in Florida, but rent is probably a lot cheaper here! I'd like to come back again for the dinner menu, which has a few more items on it, and I'd like to visit on a day when it's not unseasonably cold so that we can enjoy the waterfront aspect a bit more. read more

I have been here multiple times with my family, friends, and hubby and it's been amazing. This time not so much. The food was delicious, the service was nice, but the ambiance absolutely horrible... the music was extremely loud that we were screaming at each other across the table. My in laws have hearing aids and they couldn't hear us, the poor server couldn't even hear us she had to get extremely close to us to take our order. We asked our server for suggestions and she literally said, "Oh, I don't eat the food here." What kind of response is that? Then she completely forgot to put in our drink and appetizer orders. I kept seeing things on IG about Pier 6 and just never got a chance to go! We tried a year ago and they didn't have reservations available until super super late.. like 9pm! Behind the restaurant was an open patio space that looked out to the water. With cornhole and fire pits, currently covered for giant Jenga! A little bar out back. Then on the patio there are tables for dinner, a bar, and some swinging chairs to sit and just enjoy your views! The back patio had a giant screen with the Astros game playing as well. Able to accommodate larger parties in that back area. The inside had a huge bar up front and dining area in the back. Actually looked quite nice, though they don't claim to be a fancy restaurant at all. It was very family friendly, we saw lots of kids and our toddler loved it out here! Food was good! The truffle whipped potatoes and Lobster Mac and cheese were so good! I enjoyed my snapper crudo! Heirloom tomatoes salad had a grilled cheese on it that added another element to the traditional heirloom tomato salad. Hubby loved the crab cake as well. He ordered the grilled snapper on a shrimp Etouffee and enjoyed it. My seafood pasta was a bit rich and greasy but the lobster on top was a nice touch. Walking in I was really impressed by how sleek the place is. Our server was very friendly and informative. He was nice but overall I felt like the staff were a bit clumsy and could have been better about refilling water glasses. I got the Brussels and Piri Piri Grilled Shrimp. I haven't been there in a couple of years. They have since severly changed the menu. It used to be almost totally an oyster bar. Now they have a rather full menu. Out of 10, the food was a 6. I ordered the redfish. This is where my greatest issue is. For $30 I got a medium-sized soup bowl with a small portion of redfish on top of about a half-cup of rice. It was ok, but lots of places are better. The service was ok but nothing special. No complaints, but not in line with the price tag. The ambiance is beautiful...I have to say so. Gorgeous view of the water and their little harbor. BUT...when I rate a restaurant, no ambiance can make up for the food, and the service comes in at number 2. All-in-all, I might go there for lunch and give it a try. When I look at other reviews, I notice that they talk about the the drinks, the TV at the bar, the swings and the parking lot.
