Nope, the fish market was the place. You go in. Browse their selection of fish, shrimp, frog legs, scallops, oysters and pick what u want. They weigh your item, and if that's what u want it goes to be cooked. Now, only method of cooking is deep fry. We got some fish, shrimp and frog legs. The fish needed to come out 1 min sooner but were good. The shrimp and frog legs were perfection. After you order and pay, then you take ur number and walk to an available table where they will bring your cooked food with cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, hot sauce and lemons. Great staff, great food. It's a staple place for me and a must visit every time I'm in the Kemah area.

As we walked into Pier Eight with a deer in the headlights look, we were oh so thankful for a random stranger showing us the ropes! You walk to the seafood counter and order everything by the whole fish or poundage. There are two prices. One for raw and one for cooked. At the end, they have some sides listed. (I think they also have some non listed sides like coleslaw and a Filipino seafood soup). We wanted to order a red snapper but they were just to big for two people. Ended up with a smaller fish (I believe grouper but dont rememeber), pound of shrimp, hushpuppies and fries. They also have a cooler for sodas and beer. I dont particularly love fried seafood. However, this was so lightly battered that is was perfection. The hushpuppies were also delish. They brought out tartar and cocktail sauce and also had sriracha and valentino's on the table. STEER CLEAR! We entered this establishment with high hopes after seeing such good reviews. I would have to say that after eating here, the majority of those reviews must be false. This establishment is utterly horrendous. They did not say, but they only fried the food. It took them a few minutes to talk to us once we entered, and then they directed us to the fish line. You choose your fish, and they weigh it, then tell you to go to the cash register. At the cash register, you have to choose a can of soda or bottled water. The food was as bland as you could get, and the batter was extremely overly salted. The oysters were fried and tasted like burnt oil and salt. The squid was also fried and had a super salty taste and was extremely rubbery being indicative of being cooked too long. The fish was crusted over and slightly burnt, the flavor being burnt oil, salt with a slight fishy taste. We were unable to eat much of the food and vomited shortly after consuming what little we did. I love that it's a seafood market where they will fry up whatever you pick out. The prices are all per pound and there's a different price for raw take-out vs. cooked. For example, catfish is cheap at $3 raw, but doubles to $6 if you want it fried up. The markup is less for seafood which is more expensive like jumbo shrimp or red snapper. We picked up the biggest red snapper available, 3lbs of jumbo shrimp, large fries (feeds 8), fried rice, and 4 beers for $155. It easily fed 6 of us, but a bit pricey per person. The fried goods are served with plenty of lemon wedges, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. You will need these because they don't seem to season much. You can also get your fish done up as a soup but I can't imagine that would be better than fried. A fun, casual place to have some fresh fried seafood by the water. Not so impressed and I'm bummed because it's not at all what I remembered. I felt it was super expensive for what you get. No menu, just a sign from ceiling with a few options on it. No one told us they were huge so my 9yr old granddaughter could have shared with Us - at $20 each plate. The shrimp was good, but the catfish was a so-what (super tough batter that could not be cut with the plastic utensils - way too many fries as a filler. Tried this place as we visited Texas since its recommended by our friend. Place was the kind we expected it to be. Seafood was fresh and was cooked Filipino style. You get to pick from their "display" as shown in my photo. If you're a bit squeamish with seeing raw food or "dead fish" this might not be the place for you. Or you can let others order so you dont have to see anything unpleasant lol So be warned. Staff was great and very friendly! Definitely shows how friendly and smiling Filipinos can be. The lady who served us was very pleasant and helpful too. Unfortunately i didnt get her name. We also had a nice spot outdoor by the marina. Weather was perfect when we went, not too hot with a gentle breeze. You can feed birds and fishes with some leftovers if you like. Just be mindful not to throw a lot otherwise you'd just be polluting the water lol Overall we had a very good experience and had great tasting food. I've always seen this restaurant every time i shop for seafoods in the area a I've never been able to walk inside. My oh my, this is a treat!!! At least for me! I should say this isn't for anyone who's grossed out by crude and crummy. But this is my kinda thing. I picked a red snapper, 2 lbs of shrimps, large fried rice, and 2 orders of kids chicken nuggets meal. This was a hefty feast to say the least. The fish was fried perfectly (crunchy on the outside, moist in the inside). We had too much leftover fried rice that I ate it in several meals the next few days. I have been coming to Pier 8 for years, since I was a kid and it's truly a must when going to kemah. The food is always cooked to order, when you walk in they have the seafood options right there for you to choose from. You choose your fish and how much shrimp you want; what kind you want and everything. On this trip we got alligator which was $19 a pound and honestly not very good, it was incredibly chewy and not well seasoned. We got a pound of shrimp for $16 (cooked) which we had fried and they were Deveined which was much appreciated. I enjoyed the seasoning they add on top next time I'm gonna ask for extra for sure. My husband got flounder which he also got fried and enjoyed. The food was overall pretty good I enjoy the vibe. We got a small order of fries for $4 which was perfect for us two and we even had leftover fries. The canned drinks were $1.50 and no outside drinks were allowed which sucks I remember when they did allow them. The table areas were not the cleanest and the sauces are not very good. The service was fast and the people taking the order were doing their job. Not the friendliest but hey I went to eat not make friends so all good! For starters when you walk in the smell is not overwhelming by seafood. The order is bearable and subtle coming from a person who is not fond of the smell. No flies or gnats lingering around whatsoever so that was great. The service was great with dual language speakers, weighing the fish/shrimp to your desire in front of you. I went on a Sunday and the line was wrapped out the door. It probably took us 45 minutes to order and 20 minutes to receive our food. I got the gulf snapper it was about 4 1/2 lbs and cost about $60 fried. It was really good. I added fried shrimp, fries, and onion rings (Didn't see it on the menu, but saw someone with it). The fried squid was ok, don't think i'd get that again next time. Next time I will try the red fish and flounder. My buddy told me to ask them to filet the red fish to avoid the bones. I was so excited to go to this place because my friends love it. I ordered a 2 lb red snapper and asked them to only put salt and pepper before frying it. Most places use flour which I don't really like. My fish was overly fried and so hard I couldn't eat it. I ordered a lb of squid (7.99) and 4 lbs of boiled crawfish (5.99/lb) right at the counter and grab a table any where I like. I have a dog with me so I took one outside at the patio. The price of all the items were reasonable. Food came out quickly, flavorful, well seasoned with a generous sides of lemon wedges and sauces. The staffs were so nice. Unfortunately, due to the unprofessional, disrespectful, condescending and sarcastic attitude of the guy waiting on us for our birthday order it became quite the argument. He would not let us order off the menu. He would not let us order per pound.  Per "piece" is the only way he would let us order. WHY DO YOU HAVE THE MENU'S DISPLAYED IF THE CUSTOMER CAN NOT ORDER OFF OF IT??? WHY DO YOU HAVE SIGNS QUOTING COSTS PER POUND IF YOU CAN NOT ORDER PER POUND??? We ordered: 7 pieces of Catfish, 30 pieces of Calamari, 30 pieces of Scallops, 30 pieces of XL Shrimp, and 30 pieces of Frog Legs with a large order of fries. What a disaster!!! We received our cooked order to go and definitely checked it before we left. Yes, needless to say, he forgot the 30 pieces of Scallops. Yes, even though we paid for them this guy had the audacity to stand there and yell at me, the customer, that I didn't order them. I was beyond infuriated and yell back and definitely put him in his place. Who does he think he is??? Do you really speak to customers in that manner when you are needing the business during COVID-19??? Our birthday celebration was an utter disaster for the entire family.  Every family member got extremely sick from the food. Another one of my go-to places that I've frequented for many years now. Although they keep raising their prices, changing their menu and breading, it is still worth a trip if you've never been. I wouldn't give this place a 5-star rating, just for the fact that I'm one of their long term customers and my parents swear they were duped one time they came here about a year ago when ordering a nice large snapper. they claimed when it came to the table, somehow it tasted like tilapia and maybe they switched it on them in the back. I have no proof of this, but I have seen the slight changes over the years at this seafood market/restaurant in taste and price. Our typical order is 2-4 lbs fried shrimp and a large red snapper fried as fillets or steaks. We also order french fries as a side, not because they are great here, just for the fact that they go perfect with fried seafood. They have now added jalapenos to the menu, so we order a couple of those as well. Our most recent visit, the tab was $78, with a few left over shrimp and fish pieces to take home, so I never said hole-in-the-wall places were cheap. My dad noticed the shrimp were not at their freshest this time, but I was craving fried shrimp and convinced him to stay anyway. The shrimp also has a different batter now, but it's still fairly thin and delicious with a spritz of lemon and tabasco. The snapper on the other hand was great as usual. I like the fact that you can pick what you want and they cook it right there on the spot. The food was good, but there was not much seasoning to it. They do have the traditional seasoning stuff on the table. When they bring your food out they bring out some lemons, tarter sauce, which was not homemade, and cocktail sauce. We split a red snapper, calamari, shrimp, and scallops. It was definitely a ton of food and you will not leave full. We spent about $30 a piece because of the pricing break down. The ordering process is kind of confusing because your not sure what to get and how much. There is not a lot of signage stating specials or meals. You also buy a canned drink for $1 per can. Excellent no fuss seafood fry that you can pick out yourself and they will lightly batter and fry for you. It was a wait, an it took an hour but was worth every minute. There is plenty of parking in the front of the restaurant and the have a mask rule and there is a line when you first enter that wraps around like your waiting to go on a ride. My husband and I ordered one pound of shrimp a half pound of scallops and two catfish with some fries and it would have been enough to feed four people for $51.00. Avoid the crawfish. Get the fish. Customer service is nonexistent. I ordered a 1.5lbs of crawfish and after opening a few of them, I gave up as they were all dead and the meat was mushy. I asked for a refund but initially they refused and said they were still good. After we finished the meal, they refunded me half cuz apparently I had eaten half the crawfish. I thought maybe I had gotten a few bad ones but they were all dead. It wasn't until I asked them to bring a couple more crawfish out so they can see they were dead, did they refund me entirely for the crawfish. In the end, they were still persistent that the crawfish was fresh. So either they're a seafood restaurant who doesn't know what fresh crawfish should be like or they're dishonest to customers. read more

I've been coming here for about 20 years lol. The wait staff is super friendly and are very attentive. The food is fresh, crispy and delicious. BEWARE on holidays the wait is unbearable. We once waited over two hours for our food on a Father's Day weekend. They have signs that say you can't bring your own sodas and beer but that's FALSE lol everyone goes with their own cooler. They've renovated the place recently and it's much nicer but the bathrooms are still pretty gross. If you can, hold it and go to target down the block. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone, just be prepared to spend a good while there. Food is great like always! Why are the restrooms so awful. I think they are short staff, before you would get a waitress who would bring you you're food. Now you have to wait and beg for plates and silverware if you sit in area that is away from the main entrance. Definitely need to clean the restrooms, I saw the employees using the same restrooms.
