Well, if there was a zero star section, I would select that. I'm from north Georgia. I know pit BBQ. Just went to Pierce's and I'm not even sure what I ate. I have to say, it was bad. I'm a school teacher and it all reminded me of school caferia food. As a matter of fact, I have had better BBQ and sides in my middle school caferia where I teach. The BBQ didn't really taste like it was from a pit smoker, it tasted like it was from the oven, just heated up. A BBQ restaurant is only as good as it's sauce, the sauce had no taste. The slaw had a strange wang to it. I took a few bits and had to stop. The fries were literally the best part of my meal. My wife took 2 bits of the BBQ and said, "I'm sorry, I can't eat this." When I pulled up in the parking lot, I was like, "This is gonna be good," because of all the cars in the parking lot. I left there sad because there was so much people that think this is BBQ. I first met and fell in love with this bbq joint 33 years ago when they had a spot at Waterside in Norfolk. It was unlike and much better than any bbq I'd ever had. All these years later, having traveled far and wide and sampled a lot of cue, Pierce's remains my favorite. We took visiting family from up north here last weekend to experience all the charm of a southern, roadside bbq joint. Of course we had lemonade and sat outside at the umbrella shaded picnic tables on a lovely lawn surrounded by mature trees. It is the South personified. This, my lovely visitors, is Virginia! Not only is the cue great but so is the slaw, the fries, and according to my daughter, the chicken tenders! What always amazes me is no matter how busy they are you always get served quickly. It's organized chaos. It is also perfectly situated in Williamsburg. It is a wonderful and affordable treat for vacationing families. read more

We stop to eat at Pierce's almost every time we pass thru on our way to Norfolk. My husband grew up going to Pierce's as a kid and got me hooked! The bbq is hands down the best you'll ever have. Today I want to 'review' Tonya. I called to place an order to have bbq shipped (we live 2 hours away), this is the second time in a few years I've ordered for a special occassion. Tonya went out of her way both times. I recognized her voice as the same person I ordered from last time - she is just the BEST. I called late this afternoon when there was only about an hour left before cutoff to get the bbq shipped the same day (today) in time to receive it Sat for Father's Day cookout. I kept meaning to call all week but got busy and finally called today expecting that it was too late to get it in time for Father's Day but I was ok with that b/c either way we love the meat....I was deciding on how much to order and she took the time to tell me it would probably cost extra to ship on the wknd and she was kind enough to call the shipper to find out the pricing for 2 different orders (8 pounds or 16 pounds) and called me back in less than 10 minutes to tell me they could rush and get the order out today b/c of what I was ordering - and I didn't even have to ask! She guessed i was hoping to get it in time for Father's Day! WOW, I can't tell you how grateful I am for Tonya and the folks rushing to pack the order - my husband is going to be so surprised. Thank you Tonya, it wouldn't be possible without you and the other folks going out of their way to get this shipped out today so it will be here on time! You will not be disappointed with this meat...and if you get a chance to dine in the restaurant, you get the benefit of tasting the yummy sides. One of the meals could easily feed 2 people or you could make 2 meals out of it b/c the portions are plentiful. Always fresh! It's always busy when we go there, but don't be scared off, they are super efficient and the line moves incredibly fast. Skip the franchise places and go here instead. Love this place!!! My usual is the JC Special which is a Barbeque sandwich with slaw and a side. Use to get a cookie but they stopped that. Bring back the cookies with the JC Specials please or at least make it an option:) Born and raised in Williamsburg VA, I tend to compare all barbeque that I eat to Pierces. I love the sauce, the smokey pork taste and the amount of fries they give. Whenever I eat other barbeque, I'll say "nope, doesn't taste like Pierces" or "not bad but not Pierces". Good, fast food-y. BBQ was ok. My mind wasn't blown. The mac n cheese was ok, had a smoky taste to it, like the bbq'ing got in the mac, or they used smoky cheddar. French fries seemed like Ore Ida crinkle cuts, which were tasty, but I was expecting something better. Cornbread eh. My chocolate chip cookie kicked a*s though. Service was really nice. I am amazed at the 5 star reviews on here. The only way I could see that is if you have never had good BBQ or you are related to the owners. This is like a fast food restaurant with low quality and slow service. Flow of the place is bad and the real reason it is still open for business I think is that tourists come to town and they have a highway sign. Let me describe for you, humid crowded place with very small uncomfortable tables and chairs. I am not sure there is any seating for more than 4 people at each table. Drink machines and trash in awkward place that makes it nearly impossible for anyone to do anything. People waiting around all over for their food with no place to go. Picnic tables outside on the other side of the parking lot in the mud- not level. Wet saucy meat. Got the pork and it was SWEET and had too much cinnamon in it? I am used to Eastern North Carolina BBQ sauce around here and this is not it. It isn't horrible sauce just not good on pork, maybe its better on chicken? Soggy wet bun with flavorless coleslaw on the sandwich that was so wet it ruined both the top and bottom of the bun with its milky juice. Fries were generic out of a bag frozen food service grade. No salt. Nothing special. Collards had a good flavor however they were completely overcooked and I imagine either canned or frozen. If you have no expectations and you enjoy being treated like livestock then this is the place for you. read more

Probably one of the most overrated restaurants in the country. Better BBQ can be found at Food Lion & Golden Corral. The BBQ is only pit smoked for a short time and then finished off over a gas grill. The crinkle fries are horrid. The building is horrid. Overall just terrible. read more

Great Pitt BBQ spot located close to Great Wolf Lodge. The staff were polite and courteous and we stopped by fairly close to closing... They were still ALL smiles. I went with the family deal and a quart of the brisket chili. Everything was great! We had pulled chicken sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, sweet tea, and brownies. This fed a family of six and we still have left overs. The brisket chili was loved by all of my family and I am planning to get some to go to take with us home today! read more

i recently took my grandkids here and the server was good and friendly but the management was AWFUL!! and the food was NOT good enough to put up with that!!!! im honestly shocked!! i was expecting a nice family meal but what i got was not what i expected!! my husband was mistreated by the manager with short blonde hair !! me and my husband are very unhappy with this!! i witnessed the same woman being nasty, short, rude to the severs who were working their tails off!! i suggest everyone take their business elsewhere! i know me and my husband of 40 yrs and my 4 grandchildren will! read more

This place has been our traditional stop for years everytime we head down to William & Mary. Its easy to miss on the interstate so watch for the signs. Great pulled pork and tasty sauces. It does get crowded during lunch hours. There are picnic tables outside and other grassy areas where you can sit if the weather is nice. Tailgate works well also when its particularly crowded. Well worth suffering the crowd if there is one. Its making me hungry just writing this review. I highly recommend giving Pierce's a try. read more

It's pretty much not going to get better than this, so settle into an orange and yellow booth in one of the few restaurants in the Burg that consistently plays decent music, and order up. Not a respectable southern barbecue place. Dinners come with two fried sides and a dollop of old school coleslaw and are way overpriced. They had other sides on the menu, but the dinners seemed not to come with options. Kids choices have nothing healthful about them. The pulled pork had lots of tough bits in it, was pre-sauced, and was chopped up so fine it seemed like school-lunch minced meat. Atmosphere is fine if you like the retro seventies vibe. We found the loudspeaker system for announcing orders were ready and for calling out the staff ("So-and-so refill the napkin dispenser!") a bit disruptive. If your bar for good barbeque is very low, go ahead, otherwise steer clear of Pierce's. I think the place is mostly filled with misled tourists or locals who don't know better options or are just nostalgic about the place. read more
