OMG! If you can order them, get the brisket burnt ends. The shop said they run out around lunchtime but you can order in the morning and they'll hold them for you. So much BBQ flavor and so tender. This is right by great Wolfe lodge so made dinner very convenient. I ordered items individually by the pint/ quart due to a larger family. The pork bbq was great, the green beans were amazing, the Mac and cheese was good (not the best I've had but I'd order again), and the hush puppies.. I should've gotten 3 more orders. Only thing is I wish they had some kind of seafood option. I saw a review up here for catfish but didn't see anything when I was there, maybe I didn't look good enough. I have been coming to Pierce's since we found this place and here about this place. I always go for the pulled pork sandwich. This has to be the best place to get bbq in Williamsburg. We were recommended this place for BBQ in the Williamsburg area. Covid precautions are in place, lots of outdoor dining, however I don't know how much it's monitored out there. They are wood picnic tables so probably hard to clean, and are set pretty far away from the restaurant. Staff wasn't overly friendly and it is counter ordering, so if you are new to the place that can be surprising. Would recommend perusing the menu before you go in so you can be ready if there is a line. Food was served quickly. The pulled pork and cole slaw was excellent. The kids were overly impressed with the cheeseburgers, but if you're going for the bar-b-que this is the place. The meat melts in your mouth. The sauce is a more apple/vinegar sauce so be prepared for that style bbq. Overall a decent experience and a great place for BBQ in the are. read more

We stopped here on the way to Virginia Beach for the weekend. Fortunately, we got there a few minutes before noon because by 12:10... the line was backed up to near the entrance. This is not the first time I have eaten here and hope to go back! I had the JC Special with hushpuppies. The others in the group had a bar b q sandwich and fries or onion rings. The sandwiches are excellent and the JC Special is a good size sandwich. The onion rings are also quite good. But the hushpuppies were excellent! I wish my weight could have handled eating more of them! These are a must to try when you are there. The restaurant has some old timey indoor seating, but there is also outdoor seating with umbrellas and an area for people to have their dogs with them while eating lunch. I have been coming here for close to 50 years, since I was a small child. Food is solid and price is decent.

We saw the BBQ pits from the road and got very excited for fresh BBQ. The reality is it tasted like the meat was cooked 51 years ago and they microwave it to serve. Driest BBQ I've ever eaten. Staff was friendly though so no complaints there. Just bad BBQ. read more

I got the Combination combo which came with pulled pork, pulled chicken, and quarter ribs. I wanted to see what different flavor profiles they had. The ribs were definitely the MVP. I used my fork to separate the meat from bone and their wasn't any meat left! Which is the first sign of a good rib. The flavor was there as well. I do believe they could make a better BBQ sauce. It was a little to tangy for my liken, they also could have more varieties of sauces as well. The chicken and pulled pork were 3 of our 5 hence my overall score. I also had hush puppies with my meal they were crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the inside and had great onion taste. I switched my slaw for some potato salad which might have been a mistake the potato was lacking seasoning. All and all a good BBQ spot but not great! read more

My friend suggested this place on our way to va beach. Was sort of skeptical because I guess I'd never been to a "fast food" bbq restraunt. It was a pretty big place with a smoker out back. Had walk up ordering and the line went pretty quick. I think the wait for the food was only about 5 mins. We both had the pulled pork sandwich and fries. Both came out hot!! The sandwich was not dry whatsoever. The special bbq sauce was fantastic and they really loaded you up with fries, so much so we didn't finish them. I left extremely full. The food here is really sub-par. Even my kids won't eat it. We've tried 3x and thrown a lot of food away 3x. The sauce is ok, but the meats are dry and have no flavor at all. The cornbread tastes like cardboard. The beans are "just ok." As locals we can assure you that literally any other restaurant you go to around here has better food than Pierce's. There are a couple really good BBQ places within ten minutes...do yourself a favor and find them. You pick your roll size for sandwiches and place your order at the counter. Get your drink at the fountain and when they call your number, you pick up your food. The service is quick and the friendly. They have booths or tables and the dining area is a good size. Their BBQ sauces are excellent. We purchased two gift sets and a bottle of the pork BBQ sauce. The gifts were well received and we enjoyed our home bbq with the delicious sauce. The Pork BBQ is my favorite. The pork BBQ sandwiches and fries are delicious. Great fast meal on a road trip! I always get excited to see hushpuppies on a menu! The meal was very flavorful and hefty for the price. Always heard this place was a Virginia tradition, so I had to try it out. Outside of the restaurant smells exactly as a Virginia barbecue place should, the great smell of pit smoke fills the air. Inside, you'll be disappointed. The barbecue could have been good, but it is served already completely soaked in barbecue sauce. They took what would very likely have been some amazing pit cooked barbecue and drenched it in a sweet barbecue sauce that tastes like it came from Walmart. Totally ruined it. Strangely whatever sauce they put on the meat tasted different from their house sauce which was available as a condiment (though there's no way you'd need any MORE sauce to go on this barbecue. Crinkle fries were ok, hush puppies were ok, collards weren't cooked enough. This is really a shame how bad this was, it is definitely not a representation of true Virginia-style barbecue. Pierce's is the best for BBQ. I have some severe allergies and this is one of the few places that I am able to eat at without having a "cross contamination reaction". I always order a pulled pork sandwich with all the fixings and banana pudding. The staff are quick to assist you, very friendly and good at what they do. We got a full rack of ribs, fries, potato salad and coleslaw. Fries weren't special, tasted like frozen crinkle fries. Coleslaw was basic. Potato salad was decent deli style, good crunch from the veggies. Out of the sides I liked the potato salad the best, it complimented the meal well. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, meaty. The bbq sauce was tangy and good. Most of us enjoyed this Pitt style bbq. Kids thought it was "too sour" and prefer a sweeter thicker bbq sauce. Service was fine, they close somewhat early at 8pm. I've been coming to Pierce's BBQ for over 50 years, since I was six or seven years old. Back then you had to walk up to the to window order your meal and go back to your car and wait. The smell of the barbecue was indescribable. Nothing has changed (including the color scheme) except the size of the restaurant has gotten so much bigger. The brisket, the pulled pork, the bbq sauce, the coleslaw the hushpuppies, the collards, the Mac and cheese, and even the ICE YALL! They got that nice ice and tasty sweet tea! Fast food restaurant style ordering, definitely better than fast food barbecue. Can't say the service was especially friendly, just matter of fact order pay move along, but the place was busy and efficient. The barbecue sandwich was better than average but not exceptional. Pierce's is our favorite barbecue place. We go there every time we're in the area. I usually have the JB special which is a pulled pork sandwich with slaw, fries and a drink. Fries are always fresh and I happen to really like their style of barbecue. They are always busy, but the service is still pretty quick. It's very clean and is just a good home style restaurant. I know some reviewers don't care for their style of barbecue and that's okay. Barbecue is sort of an individual preference type of food, but for me it's just to my taste.
