Drove down from Goochland County to bring out-of-town family to see the Historic Triangle sights. I used to see Pierce's YEARS ago on drives to The Pottery, but never stopped in. What a mistake on my part! The pulled BBQ chicken was delicious and tender. The chocolate layer cake was outstanding... tender crumb, rich flavor, and a ganache frosting -- all without any hint of chemical preservative flavors. Someone else in our party ordered a slice of the carrot cake that was also outstanding... subtle carrot flavor, no oiliness, and a cream cheese frosting that tasted great (as opposed to super-sweet). The ribs ordered by others in our party were deemed "OK" followed by "We prefer baby back ribs" and "I got an end piece that was very well-done/almost burnt." Both comments also come with the admission that it's personal preference and not a reflection on Pierce's Pitt BBQ. I have driven by this place multiple times, so I decided to finally give it a go. When I got there, it was relatively full, but there were still several parking spaces in the lot and empty tables indoors (about 11:30AM). However, by the time I left, it was PACKED with people waiting for both parking spots and standing around for tables. This place is clearly very popular and has its peak times! I thought it was a sit-down restaurant, but you actually order at the counter like a fast-food establishment. I ordered the dinner combo (a sampling of chicken, ribs, and pulled pork with coleslaw, hush puppies, and fries) and a basket of fried catfish (came with fries, which I substituted for Brunswick stew). The employee at the cashier was super friendly and actually asked if I was ok with the combo sides (apparently, you can substitute sides to your heart's content), and also explained that the chicken in my combo would take a little longer to cook, so I should not be alarmed when they skip over my number when order numbers were called. I sat down at a small table near a window and waited for my food. About fifteen minutes later, my order was ready, and I sat down to slowly work away at the massive amount of food before me. All of the barbecued food was delicious (I especially liked the crispy edges of the ribs), with lots of flavor. The hush puppies were a little plain (I've had better) but still good, and the fries were hot. The combo was a pretty big portion of food. The catfish was REALLY fishy and I probably wouldn't have finished it all if it weren't for my love of seafood. The Brunswick stew was different and enjoyable though (I always love soup). Amazingly, I was able to finish almost everything aside from a handful of fries, which I took to-go (all of the food is served in takeout containers even if you eat in). This is a great restaurant which has been around for decades, so I recommend searching it out (it's somewhat isolated) to enjoy some tasty food at reasonable prices! read more

I have been a regular since 1974. I always am amazed at the way people review a restaurant. First, do not go here if all you expect NC barbecue. Pierce's has no similarity to most barbecues. Next if you order something other than barbecue, it will take longer. Learned that when I had younger children. Next, expect it to be busy. They have great sides. I, however, generally order the JC Special with slaw. It ran $15.08 this weekend with tax. There is actually to much there. The barbecue still tastes like it did in 1974 and the fries are hot and cooked properly. The Special includes large barbecue sandwich, large fries and drink. A plus is they have Diet Dr. Pepper at the fountain. Can't wait until next time. read more

The portion was generous, you will not leave here hungry, My wife Loves the Collard Greens and said she has never had any better anywhere, the Baked Beans were so good I had to get a second order to go. When you know you know! We've patronized this spot for over 25 years! Always a family favorite and our go to spot after a day of shopping at the outlets or when we have a taste for some amazing BBQ! The JC Special does it for me. Huge sandwich, 5oz of some of the best NC style pork (or chicken) bbq on a warm bun and a scoop full of cole slaw (tastes great alone), piping hot fries (didn't make it to the pic) and sweet tea extra ice was my beverage of choice! Here are the results: Pork- good Chicken- ok/good Ribs-TERRIBLE (I literally could not separate them due to toughness) Coleslaw- good Mac and cheese ok Green beans- good, from a can Hush puppies - very good Roll- ok Baked beans- very good Soda bar- no root beer!!! I met my parents here to grab takeout and have a picnic somewhere as I'm still not eating at places indoor or outdoor. We know this place gets busy so we got there around 11:15 and there weren't many people. My parents were delayed a bit so I told them I'd go in and order the food. SERIOUSLY IMPRESSED with the COVID precautions. There are markers on the floor with distancing rules. Only 5 people allowed in line at once. Stopped in here based on a recommendation of a local regarding barbecue and I was not impressed. However, my husband liked the food, so take what I say with a grain of salt. We ordered the ribs, pulled chicken, pulled pork, collard greens, coleslaw, and potato salad. Tried to order the brisket, however we were told they didn't have any. To start, I didn't like the flavor of the barbecue sauce. It seems to be vinegar based and was tart. Now being that all the meat was covered in it, was most likely the reason I didn't care for the food. I wish they would have the option to order the food without sauce. That way I could add my own. My ribs were also lukewarm unfortunately and so was my chicken. The coleslaw was bland, but my husband seemed to like it. However, the collard greens and potato salad were delicious and both my husband and I agreed! Very well seasoned. I could eat a tub of those two all day. My husband did enjoy his pulled pork. A friend actually told me about this place and so we went on a BBQ adventure. The location is almost like an off road spot but very easy to find. The environment is shack like, very homey, casual, and southern. Food was great. I am not a big BBQ eater but this month I've been in that phase of food genre. I got the platter (follow picture to post) and it was delicious. Prices did not seem overboard as I am learning BBQ is typically a tad more than if you were to grub at a burger spot or something different. Customer service was quick and spectacular. It was busy that evening, a Thursday I believe, and that's saying something. The tables overturn quickly so it wasn't the "no where to sit" business. I always come here whenever I'm in Williamsburg. It's not on the main roads of Williamsburg so you have to really find it, but It's worth it when you do. This place is always pack. Constant lines, people eating outside on warm days, and standing room in the inside. I think they need to expand to accommodate people in the dining area. It's really no flow which makes it a bit confusing upon entering. The service is fast and the staff is friendly. Food is great with great smoke flavor and BBQ sauce. The sandwich is a descent size, actually I couldn't even finish the entire thing, I saved the other half for dinner. As for the fries they were average, kind of taste like the frozen ore ida ones. So glad we had the chance to stop by to try their BBQ on our road trip home over memorial day! They are doing take out, and the BBQ quality sensation is true!! As always... their meat is cooked to absolute perfection as it always is when i stop by and their mac and cheese is soooo good, as are their collards!! The Brunswick stew wasn't what I was hoping for so if you're a big fan of Brunswick stew I would personally choose a different side option like their green beans! I am SO happy that they brought back their plastic Pierces souvenir cups because for the past few years I have seriously missed taking home a cup when I visit. They have an entirely separate house outside of their restaurant where they smoke all of their meats and have posted a sign giving visitors the option to take a quick peek which is so awesome of them! I will admit, if i were giving this review 2 or 3 years ago this review would basically be.. how does that saying go? Oh, "yeahh.. it's a no from me", a 2 star review. But since my last visit things have changed. It is difficult to find a good southern sweet tea around here and Pierces tea is always on point. I can't get enough of it! We easily spend this amount on one full meal at a fast food restaurant so there is no question we will be back before our week in Wburg is over. Also, the macNcheese is better than fast food mac! (Far from the best but better than fast food so that stands for something) the fries were great IF you like unsalted fries (since there is nothing to stick the salt to the fry it doesn't have the same effect when added after) Anyhoo, the sides could have been the worst and it wouldn't even matter because the pulled pork was THAT GOOD! We like to find places that have been on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive In's and Dives. My husband found this one and since he loves to eat and cook bbq, it was appropriate. He bought a half slab rib platter, which came with coleslaw and hush puppies , a whole smoked chicken and beef brisket. This was our dinner for 4. The chicken was good but I think it could have used more flavor and crunchier skin. The brisket and ribs were excellent. The hush puppies were very good as well. The bbq sauce wasn't my favorite but went well with the hush puppies. The coleslaw was really good too. I don't like it runny or very mayonnaisey. Perfect consistency for me and my husband, who I've never seen eating it before. We usually just taste it and put it to the side. There were no leftovers of the coleslaw, hush puppies or ribs. pierces is a local, favorite barbecue restaurant. Adjacent to I64 they get truckers, cops, locals, and tourists. But....I was disappointed in both the BBQ and brisket. The BBQ simply was just plain, too much tomatoey in the sauce and not much flavor.
