I wish I loved Pierce's but I'm always disappointed. The food is pretty good and well priced but it's just not worth it to me to be slammed in a huge crowd of people. The place is so loud and packed it's just not an enjoyable dining experience for me. If it wasn't so far out of the way from most things I might stop by more often and get some to go but I normally don't want to deal with the hassle of navigating around the 20 millions people/tourists in the parking lots and being herded through a fast food style line to order my food. I stopped in here on a visit back to Williamsburg and had a great lunch of BBQ pork. The pork was delicious and cooked to perfection. I put a little extra sauce on and was in heaven. These guys aren't reinventing the wheel, just serving up really tasty BBQ. They're not super cheap, there can be waits and it is off the beaten path, but it is well worth a stop. My family stopped here when driving from NC OuterBanks to Dulles International Airport. The food was amazing. The pulled pork sandwiches were the delicious. The BBQ sauce used was a great add. Very pleased with the food. Very displeased with the service. I've only been to pierces once before, so this time I figured I would try something new. I had the special(shredded chicken) the first time and it was great. I thought I would try the pulled pork sandwich on this trip. There are 3 options for pulled pork. Different in bun size. I asked the lady at the register which pulled pork option she preferred. This might sound like a dumb question to some but sometimes it's nice to know what size they might prefer. Or enjoy not too feel too full. Or which size is a popular order. She seemed amused by my question. She rolled her eyes and started laughing with another worker. She tapped on the menu and said "they all the same pork." Proceeded to say things like "o myy" and shook her head. Her coworker on the other hand, held onto one of the counters and started to laugh. I shouldn't have to leave the restaurant angry. I would've enjoyed my food more had I not been laughed at. Service is important. Ill have to think about going to pierces again for awhile. O---M---G!!! I only recently found out about this place and from the first bite, I've been hooked. I'm originally from Texas, so I'm always on a quest to find good BBQ. Needless to say, I had grown accustomed to disappointment after trying several places. That was until a friend of mine who was born and raised in this area told me about Pierce's. I wish I could provide more information about specific menu items, but after three visits, I have yet to get anything other than the J's special. The pork version. It's perfectly smoked and although eating coleslaw on a sandwich isn't customary where I'm from, I can't see eating one without it now. The fries are awesome too. Always crispy, fresh and delicious. The place is always packed, but the line seems to move really quickly no matter how many other customers there are in line........ This place is definitely worth the drive! read more

My group of two couples from Texas came here on vacation. We each saw a different cashier and experienced the worst customer service. They acted as if we were an inconvenience in speech and body language. We ordered pork sandwiches, collard greens and one of the platters that came with hush puppies, fries, coleslaw, bbq pulled chicken, bbq pulled pork, and ribs. We are Texan so we were sad that hardly any of the dishes included beef brisket. What was good: coleslaw and hush puppies. The sandwich was okay. What we did not care for: all of the meat. I am not a fan of their bbq sauce that they mix in with all of their meat. It has a flavor of cinnamon to it that I find weird for bbq. Overall, after eating BBQ at Rocco's Smokehouse two nights before, this paled in comparison. Save your money and go to Rocco's! read more

As many locals, I've been coming here for years. Even before they changed the interstate ramps. Their food has been consistent through the years and always is the bomb. A Carolina BBQ fan I find it a bit sweet but still enjoy it immensely along with their generous serving of fries. Coleslaw is pretty run of the mill but it's a must with BBQ. I'd rather have my own without sugar. Don't care for sweet coleslaw. But on a large sandwich, it's ok. Definitely would not be returning. I had the pulled pork sandwich with onion rings. The food was okay but nothing to go out of your way for. I called ahead and still had to wait in line. There was a large crowd and I was told it's always that way. I was totally unorganized. You have to walk through a large crowd to get to the front to order your food. They give you a cup for your drink and you have walk back through the large crowd, close to the entrance to get your drink. While you in line to get your drink, people that's already seating jump in front of you to get refills. I was totally disappointed and will not be returning. read more

This restaurant is decent for those looking to get some BBQ. There are some "hit and miss" with the food itself. The brisket is the best meat out of all and it was spectacular with great flavor and perfectly cooked. We did not care for the pulled pork. The main reason for this is the vinegar-based sauce which can be typical for this type of regional BBQ. The shredded chicken was excellent and had great taste. Overall, the restaurant was good and you just need to know what to expect as BBQ can be heavily regional in how it is prepared. It might be a good idea for the restaurant to indicate up front about the vinegar base to their BBQ itself. read more

Always look forward to the bbq when I smell the smoke outside. This was my first experience with VA bbq so was not sure what to expect. The pork was well cooked and pulled perfectly. Nice mild smoke to it but the sauce was not quite right for me. Vinegar was on the light side, tomatoes on the heavy side and overall a bit too much sweetness. This was really set off with a heavy dose of cinnamon. Now I love cinnamon, but I don't think it belongs on pork! Hush puppies were mighty fine and overall I was happy with the visit. read more

I have to say that I LOVE this place! I have been fortunate to enjoy food from all over the country, and this place by far has my favorite BBQ! Their prices are very reasonable, portions are healthy, and it has an old style comfort feel to it. Good...not ridiculously amazing, but definitely worth the stop if you're in the area. I'm not a huge fan I sauce mixed in my Q, but I did like their sauce. Slightly spicy and tangy. The service was very quick and friendly even though the place was absolutely packed. The picnic table as umbrellas were nice so the little ones could run around while we are. Each and ever time my wife and I have visited Pierce BBQ we left satisfied. We have eaten in and take out. It seems to be always busy, but the orders being taken and received has been expeditious. The area is always in complete order and you always see the attendants in action to keep it that way. Pierce's new addition of pork shanks to the menu is a hit. I had never heard of pork shanks before. The pork shank looks like a drumstick with juicy pork meat that was tender and delicious.
