Pierce's new addition of pork shanks to the menu is a hit. I had never heard of pork shanks before. The pork shank looks like a drumstick with juicy pork meat that was tender and delicious. It's barbecue on a bone y'all. Well if you travel between NOVA or Richmond to Virginia Beach you know to stop in Lightfoot for the pork barbecue. Try the pork shank. read more

We walk into this bbq place on the side of the road. Very friendly people and nice atmosphere. Ordered the bbq chicken sandwich and fries. The fries were smoking hot and the chicken was very juicy and flavorful. My wife had the pork bbq. I can't believe she finished it all at one time. My son copied off me and ordered what I ordered. Americans at their worse! The amount if one-time use products is appalling. Even if you are eating in your meal comes in a bag and each utensil and straw is individually wrapped. The food was good enough to go back occasionally BUT I will NOT be going back to support this irresponsible establishment. We can do better. read more

A client recommended I stop in for a quick bite on my way from Chesapeake to Richmond. Sadly I was not impressed I enjoy throw back hole in the wall joints but this place really was mediocre at best. The barbecue sauce on the pulled pork was heartburn city. The gigantic sandwich was far from giant Fries and onion rings were good and ribs were not bad. But overall I wouldn't make a special stop. Wait staff was great. However the food left much to be desired. I was here w/ my 12yr old son & 18 yr old daughter. They tried the ribs, I tried the 5x meat sampler. Overall the food was eatable but meats were dry & not flavor full. We had to smother the food in bbq sauce to eat our money's worth. If you have a different dinner option use it. read more

We tried Pierce's at the recommendation of a coworker who swears by it. This was the first stop of a three stop BBQ weekend. I had high hopes going into it, but was a bit disappointed. The sauce seemed a bit watery. The cookie that came with the meal was tough, almost stale and the sandwich, while big, was rather bland. There is a lot of good BBQ in that neck of the woods, so I will probably venture elsewhere before returning to Pierces. read more

Service was quick and friendly, but the limited seating creates a bit of a vulture effect, as everyone waiting for a seat hovers around waiting for a table to open up. Not sure how much to say because it was one of the biggest disappointments of a recent trip to that area. So many people recommend this barbeque, and I'd eaten at the one in Richmond 10 years ago, but to confess this was the worst barbeque I've ever eaten. I mean even Fire Station fundraisers. It is pretty bad when pulling up to a barbeque place you don't see any smoke from the smokers or smell any barbeque in the air that alone should have been a warning, yet I trudged on. I have had much better pulled pork. For the price I would recommend purchasing from the grocery store. It tasted about the same but would be way cheaper. Their sauce which was readily available at the counter through a pump was the worst barbeque sauce I have ever tasted. For an iconic institution, to say I was let down would be the understatement. It was just okay. I went today. I have always heard great things about their bbq. I bought the jumbo bbq w/slaw. It was a big sandwich. The bbq came already sauced, which is not my preference. I like to be able to taste the smoked meat and put on my own sauce to my tasting. I also bought sweet potato sticks which are fried sweet potatoes. The size was generous and i could not finish them. They like the bbq were just okay. I was bit shocked that it is ran like fast food. They do not have wait staff. You order your food, take your receipt with your number on it and pick it up when your number is called. It was very packed and difficult to find a table to eat at. I was not really all that impressed with the bbq. I will continue to go to Jeb's Diner in Carrollton, VA for the best pork bbq. read more

Its not my favorite type of BBQ, but I do like it. As we all know, BBQ varies in type, taste, and flavors by region and personal preference. I tend to prefer more sweet sticky BBQ. I'm not a fan of the Pierce's BBQ sauce. That being said. I do enjoy going here occasionally. But it is SOOOOO busy! It can be frustrating to be around so many people (and tourists in the summer) if you do not like crowds. I can attest to the fact that they do smoke the meat because on my commute to work in the mornings there is almost always a big billowing plume coming out of the smoking shack. I like their ice cubes (I know thats kind of dumb, but hey - I really like ice). Its that pellet shaped tiny cube stuff and somehow it makes drinks awesome. Their cookies are also yummy. They used to have a really nice BBQ salad but its gone now. There went my low carb favorite! read more

My husband and I stopped here on a road trip. We both got "the regular" which is a regular sized pulled pork bbq sandwich. It surprisingly didnt come with a side, we had to order that separately. The sandwiches were good but not great. I was bummed they didnt toast our bun. Also, they weren't very generous with the cole slaw. However, the onion rings were very crispy and delicious. The restaurant is clean, friendly service, and most importantly the food is amazing! The BBQ sauce is a southern vinegar sauce with a little bit of spice! All around delicious!! Every time I travel south I have to stop and get a meal plus a quart or two of the BBQ pork to bring home! read more

Ok BBQ, ribs where tough and chewy, $14.00 for half a slab. I could tell the ribs weren't cooked fresh just from the texture and the BBQ sauce was OK it was vinegar based but rather than reheat the ribs with the sauce it seemed like they reheated ribs seperate and put a cold BBQ sauce on top of it. Others in my group enjoyed the BBQ sandwiches. Portion sizes with the sandwiches and fries were pretty decent so that must be there money maker. I know better next time. read more

We got the JC Special and it never disappoints. The highlight was the whole smoked chicken- it is phenomenal. I ate an entire drumstick with one motion. We got there about half an hour before closing time and felt a bit rushed as they started to clean the restaurant around us without a "take your time" from any employees. We were just on vacation and we always try to get Pierce's BBQ when we are in town. Their food is wonderful and the service is always fast even when the line is out the door. We never wait more then 5-10 minutes. The customer service is always good. We have had the pulled pork sandwiches, ribs, potato salad, baked beans and mac and cheese. Everything we have ordered has always been great. This place is a little hard to find and is on the other side of town where all the main activity are happening in Williamsburg BUT is so worth the 20 minute drive to find. You'll love it!! read more

Fantastic BBQ, we lucked out and came during a somewhat slow time so we had an easy time finding a seat. Glad we came when we did because it filled up super quick almost as soon as we sat down. There's plenty of picnic tables outside though which is a plus if it's packed inside. We both had the BBQ chicken which included three delicious sides, needless to say everything was quickly devoured. I know there are many different styles of BBQ and plenty of BBQ snobs (seems like an oxymoron) who swear they know exactly what BBQ should be. Those people are on crack, it's impossible to dislike the food here no matter which style you prefer or where you're from. This was our first visit and we will definitely return soon.
