Went for the first time today. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I had ordered the Brisket Dinner with cornbread , Mac and cheese, and potato salad. The sides were very good, although I didn't enjoy the brisket too much. I have lived off of Texas BBQ for many years and must say the brisket down south is much better. We go to Pierce's about 5 times a year. I think it has really good Chicken BBQ and Ribs, but I think the pulled pork is WAY too smokey, so we never get it. I mean terribly, overpowering smokey. Pierce's was so good we had to come twice! This place serves up great tasting BBQ in a fast food format. It's really popular so the parking lot fills up fast and the lines can be long but they move very quickly. I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich with a side of beans and cornbread but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I had the full rack of ribs and a sweet tea. Definitely portioned for 2/3, but I devoured those finger-licking good ribs. They were the kind that are on the bone and when you take a bite in to them they just come right off and let me tell you it was succulent meat and it comes with sauce,great combination. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, and this place was slammed! The service was really fast, the place is clean and the food is hot and delicious! Been stopping here at least twice a summer after a day at Busch Gardens or Water Country - a great alternative to the normal fast food choices in the area. A bit off the beaten path, but worth the drive. Legendary side items like sweet potato sticks, HUGE onion rings and hush puppies that should be illegal. Then there's the meat, generous portions of pulled chicken or pork on nice size buns, their ribs are very good too. The signature sauce is not as vinegary as I would like, a bit sweet too, but that's just one person's taste...For an alternative to the normal bbq sandwich, get the SUPER DOC with cheese and diced onions!! Always a steady crowd no matter what time you get there, lunch or dinner, but the line always moves fast and I have never had a problem getting a table for my family. Definitely would not be returning. I had the pulled pork sandwich with onion rings. The food was okay but nothing to go out of your way for. I called ahead and still had to wait in line. There was a large crowd and I was told it's always that way. I was totally unorganized. You have to walk through a large crowd to get to the front to order your food. They give you a cup for your drink and you have walk back through the large crowd, close to the entrance to get your drink. While you in line to get your drink, people that's already seating jump in front of you to get refills. I was totally disappointed and will not be returning. read more

This restaurant is decent for those looking to get some BBQ. There are some "hit and miss" with the food itself. The brisket is the best meat out of all and it was spectacular with great flavor and perfectly cooked. We did not care for the pulled pork. The main reason for this is the vinegar-based sauce which can be typical for this type of regional BBQ. The shredded chicken was excellent and had great taste. Overall, the restaurant was good and you just need to know what to expect as BBQ can be heavily regional in how it is prepared. It might be a good idea for the restaurant to indicate up front about the vinegar base to their BBQ itself. read more

I visited Pierce's on a Saturday night after shopping at the outlets- not an easy place to find, especially at night! The place was pretty packed but we were able to find a table within about 5 minutes. It is a fast food-ish place, which was a bit of a turn-off. I had the JC Special for $8- pulled pork sandwich, fries, cookie and soda. The sandwich was okay- plenty of meat but a boring bun and barely there coleslaw. The BBQ sauce was nice, light with an apple-y flavor. The crinkle cut fries were ordinary but the cookie (they only had oatmeal raisin left) was soft and delicious the next day. read more

Had to try this place based on the hype. Sure the BBQ was good, but I walked in with much higher expectations. Also did not expect the fast food nature of the place. Order at the counter and wait till your number comes up. Think Five Guys. I will say you do get a generous serving of meat on the sandwiches. Fries are meh, though served piping hot. Honestly I'd rather get the 4.95 BBQ plate at Cook Out as it has a better flavor. I tried the sauce separately to dip a few fries in. Was like half-cinnamon. Not a fry dipping kind of BBQ! I ordered the pulled pork lunch special. These were the best fries I have ever had. The staff was extremely nice, always working and keeping the place clean. I didn't care for the sauce on my pulled pork sandwich but that is just me. I like the sauce spicier and not so sweet. Also, I would have liked a bit more coleslaw on my sandwich. Got the dinner combo that serves pulled pork, pulled chicken, ribs and 3 sides. The pork was a little salty...if they gave us a bun or some kind of bread it would've been perfect. The pulled chicken was great, bursting with flavor! The ribs fell right off the bones and melted in my mouth. I cannot be too critical considering that nothing has ever been better than the BBQ my parents made for me growing up. With that being said, this is where I stop and pick up dinner when I want girlfriend brownie points. I would probably give Pierce's 4 stars had it not been for overly salty green beans, but I certainly enjoyed the rest of the meal. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and split fries, corn bread, and green beans with the rest of my family. The pork was juicy and had a nice bold sauce that was neither too sweet, too runny, or too spicy. The bread held the sandwich together well and the cole slaw wasn't heavy on the mayo and gave the sandwich a nice crunch to balance the juicy meat. As for the sides, the cornbread was the star as it was warm and moist. Greens beans were salty as stated, and fries to hot, but just basic crinkle cut fries that you can usually find in the grocery store. nothing too special. Pierce's is definitely a great fast food chain substitute although you won't be saving yourself from any calories. read more

Both my husband and I are BBQ lovers and know our BBQ. We were very excited to get to Pierces as we had heard soo much about it. Sadly it wasn't what we were hoping for. The ribs were not like everyone had said, the sauce had a weird taste and the ribs themselves didn't have a good flavor either. I will say the ribs are tender, they are not falling off the bone and very tender and easy to chew but that seems to be the only plus. My husband had the chopped BBQ sandwich which he said was okay and our son had chicken fingers which of course is hard for anyone to mess up. I also want to add that it was a group of 6 or 7 of us and we were all very disappointed. My girlfriend did say that the catfish was really good. read more

Best BBQ ever. I live in the DC metro area, and if I ever head south, I have to stop in Williamsburg for Pierce's BBQ. It's delicious. All of it. Some of the negative reviews tend to imply people don't believe Pierce's is as good as "such an such" -- but frankly, in the Hampton Roads metro area, this is the best BBQ. Bar none. After all the hoopla we finally had lunch here the other day. Food overall was not that authentic. The fact that they add barbecue sauce to their signature product (pulled pork) is not a good sign, nor is the fact that they only have one sauce available at the fixing bar. Sides are not affordable. Baked beans were not very smokey and had bits of hot dog in them rather than pulled pork. Pulled chicken was not that great either. If you have to go here I recommend bringing your own rolls and ordering the meat by the container which is a lot cheaper. Brisket also is not available on the menu. read more

I am not at all sure of what people see in Pierces BBQ. We just had their take out consisting of "small" full rack of ribs, and two sides (potato salad and their beef brisket chili.), all for $32. Definitely not worth the price, The ribs were dry and tough, not even close to a "fall off the bone rib". The potato salad was bland and boring. The chili had possibilities but I can get just as good chili from a can of Hormels chili. Quite honestly I can make far better ribs in my oven....next time I want ribs I'll do just that. read more

Just went to pierce's today for the first time and I couldnt have been happier. The "Jumbo" was a top ten sandwich that I have had. The pulled pork was great and the addition of home made slaw was delectable. The beans were wonderful with a nice sweet taste. THe catfish was solid, but when isnt fired food good. The ribs were just good, if they were anywhere other than a BBQ place, i would have said they were great, but BBQ places have a higher standard. In additiont to the great food, the staff could not have been nicer and since I was there with 16 people including 4 kids under 5, that means alot. A must try if you are in Virginia! read more

Pretty decent bbq for the price and service. It's run like a fast food joint so the food comes out quickly. The pulled pork sandwich was tender and the bbq sauce was just right but it came out kinda cold. As a result, I think I enjoyed the hush puppies more than the bbq itself, which shouldn't be the case at a beloved establishment that started out in the 70's. Order more than you can eat, just to try everything, and you will end up eating it all anyway. The pork, chicken, ribs, etc, ... all good. At this level it is personal taste deciding if it is "the best" BBQ ever. I've had better in Memphis, Austin, and Kansas City but BBQ is a religion in those cities. The truth: the food here is actually pretty good - the pulled pork and chicken were well marinated - and the place is apparently highly acclaimed (judging by all of the framed magazine publications). Dreadful experience. Pierce's is supposed to be quick service but we waited 38 minutes for our ticket to be called. The pork tasted several days old and came drowning in sweet sauce tasting suspiciously similar to Kraft. Mac and cheese and corn bread muffins were generic cafeteria food service recipes.
