Oo this is an interesting spot. I've been wanting to try more Filipino foods in the city, and this was one option and came up a couple times. Came here for brunch and this restaurant is a bit grunge (in an intentional way). The sink is duct-taped, and their expanded seating area in the back is a bit dark and cold (and feels a bit like you're outside?). The restaurant front is a bit hard to find and very unassuming. I ordered the sigsig with garlic rice and also tried the khao soi and pan mee noodles. Everything was super flavorful, but I was a bit disappointed by the portion sizes for the price AND the fact that the sigsig didn't come with rice? It's an extremely salty and overwhelming dish without it, so I highly recommend getting that as a side. My partner really enjoyed the food FWIW. Also tried the cilantro soda out of curiosity and I think it is worth skipping. It's kind of like a sprite with cilantro leaves in it, and not worth it for $9. The tables are small, so there wasn't enough space to put our 3 dishes on in addition to the water so they removed the water bottle, but kept an eye on us so our cups never got more than half empty. Wow wow wow I became aware of Chef Leah when she was featured on one of my favorite YT food channels showcasing Filipino cuisine - Erwan Heussaff's Featr. My sister and nephew had dined in once before so this became my last meal in the city on my last night. Since there was 3 of us, I suggested we do the family meal option which got us 2 appetizers, 2 noodle dishes and two big plates. That came with unlimited rice. We started off with the sisig and wings. That sisig disappeared so quickly. It was so damn good. We all paired it with the coconut rice. That rice was so fire I was inhaling it so quickly. The taste of coconut makes you want to keep taking bites. I think I had two bowls. The wings were tasty as evidenced by my fingers covered by the sauce. We then moved on to the two noodz options. Finished with the ribs and whole fish. The sauce with the fish tasted like what my mother used to make. It was sweet. We opted for the donuts to end instead of the jello shots since my nephew is underage. I loved that every dish had a hint of spice as that happens to be my jam since my people are from Bicol. The service was super. Matthew was amazing. He took such great care of us. A couple personal notes. While some people may be bothered by the loud ass music, I loved it as they were blasting 90s hits. I'm sure people saw me grooving. We were seated directly outside the bathroom which was constantly in use. While there was no smell wafting out of it, it got a little annoying that the door was wide open when it wasn't in use. I will however say that whenever a staff member was walking by they would always walk over to close it. But the second someone used it, it would be wide open when they exited. Sizzling Sisig (Filipino Crispy Pork with Eggs), apparently a drinking snack, uses the meat from the pig's head as the menu states. They do add chili so there's a nice kick to it. I think popping the egg as soon as the food arrives is the move. Mix in some of the Garlic Rice and it's a fantastic meal. I think it's a bit on the salty side, so the rice helps dilutes that taste. Squeeze the lime that comes with the dish to add some acidity. Overall I enjoyed it. Service is a bit rude. There were comments and remarks made that probably should have been kept to themselves. We ordered the green papaya salad, the sizzling sisig, khao soi, belly chon, rice (jasmine and coconut), ricotta donuts and halo halo Fair warning, I can tolerate a tiny bit of spiciness. The green papaya salad, sizzling sisig and khao soi are all pretty spicy (khao soi being the most spicy). All of the flavors are so good though so the spiciness did not stop me from eating it and just sweating through it. The bellychon had really great crispy skin, very fatty and I loved that it came with the three sauces (pineapple, spiced vinegar and liver sauce) that we can put on ourselves. My one critique is that they didn't give enough bellychon. They say they portion it out to the amount of people but it seemed like they provided less for the main entree. Most of us slowed down so that that we could save room for the pork belly, but there was significantly less of it than anything else. For all the appetizers, we got four plates. The bellychon we only got two plates. I came here a couple of times the past two years as it's a place where large groups of 6 can come and it's very family style and located in the lower east side so it's super convenient to go to and then go somewhere afterwards. I tried dinner a year ago and then brunch this year and the food isn't very memorable. I think it's quite salty for my taste but lack of unique flavor. The idea of the restaurant is neat - fusion of Filipino and Thai but I guess I prefer them separate. Their mimosas for their bottomless brunch is quite weak and while it doesn't range to super sugary, it did get me wondering when I was going to feel buzzed. They didn't ask us which one we wanted as a pitcher but they just placed a random mango pitcher on the table for us so they don't have to keep pouring but I felt bad asking to try the guava when there's already a mimosa pitcher on the table. My friend always gets the Sisig as this one is one of the better dishes of the restaurant (you must order your rice separate for these orders) and I got the Khao Soi this time. My khao soi was quite salty although noodle texture was fine, I felt like there wasn't enough flavor for me, just salt. Some other friends got the papaya salad, longanisa with egg, steak with eggs and I thought the portion for the longanisa and steak was really small for the price of what you pay ($18) and also didn't include any veggies and almost just felt like a protein plate but very small amount of meat. The sizzling sisig was super crispy and flavorful, which definitely needed the rice to balance the saltiness. This was both of our favorite dish of the night. The boat noodle was comforting and the duck was tender --both delicious options. Of course we ended it with the Halo Halo ($12) for dessert and a coffee for the boyfriend. The halo halo was the perfect dessert and I enjoyed all the element in there. The ube ice cream and flan were sweet, but balanced well with the coconut milk and ice. I was a little suspicious when there were no Asian chefs in their open kitchen. Sure, I get that everything in Manhattan is expensive due to inflation, but these southeast asian fusion dishes are terrible. Most of the dishes like the sisig and sliders didn't properly showcase the taste of pork. Instead, they tasted burnt and overly oily. Maybe fried rice is different in other Asian cuisine, but to me these chefs did not use day old rice in their garlic fried rice to properly absorb the oil. It tasted soggy and flavorless. In terms of sharing the dishes, good luck. The sliders only have 2, and it was very fatty. The banh xeo was a mess if you tried to cut it. Maybe if they had them in bite sizes it would be better. Not crazy about papaya salad in general but the people that ordered it said it normally doesn't have so much cilantro and mint. read more
