Food is good but the service was so mid. Idk if this is all of nyc but had to ask the waiter 3 separate times for the check, and the drinks all came out in different times which was annoying. Food was the same where half the table was waiting for the rest of the food to get there. I did enjoy my meal but did have to sauce it up. I had the Tom kha soup which was only $7 the broth was flavorful but there was not a whole lot of meat in the soup and less vegetable variety compared to your typical place. I think there was just mushrooms and chicken. I got a side of rice to go with which helped it be more filling. I also ordered the chicken steamed dumplings from the happy hour- I would not order these again and did not find them very good / exciting. My massamun curry was good, dislikes the fact that they use baby carrots. Not my fave massamun curry but not bad, the meat could have been more tender and fresh. One of my friends brought me here for a lil' early birthday celebration and it did not disappoint. Whenever I enter a Thai place, my immediate reaction is just to order the pad thai, but i'm really glad I didn't this time. My friend recommended the peanut dumplings, the khao soi, and the shrimp pad see ew, and ofc we got everything! My favorite was probably the khao soi and peanut dumplings. This is actually my first time trying khao soi and I'm glad it was at Kati Thai. It was super creamy, and the crispy noodles mixed with the soft noodles added another texture profile that I really enjoyed. Since we opted for the lunch special for the pad see ew it came with a side of spring rolls as well which were just ok in my opnion. The service was great and the staff was super friendly. I ordered a soft shell crab salad to step outside of my basic papaya salad or other thai dish comfort zone. Totally on me for trying smth new but I wasn't a huge fan. The crab is just fried and you're supposed to eat the shell. There isn't much meat and I personally wouldn't order it again. Just a personal preference though! For my entree, I was torn between the grilled pork chop and crab fried rice. I finally decided to order the grilled pork chop which came with vegetables and sticky rice. It was a pretty good choice. The pork chop was delicious, with lovely charred grill marks on the meat. The pork chop was tender and juicy, full of wonderful flavor from the savory and slightly sweet sauce it was marinated in. Vegetables included broccoli, carrots, bok choy, and baby corn - They were just okay. They were quite hard and not cooked to the perfect consistency. The sticky rice came in a super cute cube dish but I didn't like it. Bland, with not enough stickiness. Service was solid. The staff handled the large crowd with ease and were friendly. Idk if whoever was working the register is slow or what. And believe me it wasn't a language barrier or old age that was the problem. Behind his accent was very fluent and clear English. Anyway: From the very start things were uncomfortable. I asked for a menu and he acted surprised that I wasn't sitting down to eat. I asked if any of the specials (entrees) on the first page were spicy (because that's what I was wanted) and he started flipping to another page pointing out a soup that says the word "spicy" in it and then he pointed to a soup below it that wasn't spicy. I asked if the special (on the page I was asking about...) I wanted can be made spicy and he said sure. Then when he's putting the order into his screen, he asks "you want that spicy?" and I repeated myself yes. I asked if I could see the drink menu and again he was surprised/hesitant. I flipped to the other side of it and saw the happy hour menu, complimenting it. And he said "unfortunately happy hour is over." And I said "yeah I know, I'm saying you have a good happy hour." Dude it was almost 10PM, obviously happy hour is over... And his response was "Yeah, well, maybe next time (you can order it)," as if he was trying to remind me that happy hour was order. Wtf man. So I ordered a Thai iced coffee and his response was, "So we have Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee." And I repeated myself "I want Thai iced coffee." And his response was "You want Thai iced coffee?" IS THIS GUY DEAF!? Bear in mind the "cashier" was also a server for the tables. I feel bad for all of those people sitting down. To make things even worse, the soft shell crab was dry and not tasty, the black pepper sauce was so watery that it barely tasted like anything, and the rice was dry as hell too. And the side of carrots and lettuce tasted so old, boring, and plain (no dressing). Just don't come here. read more
