The waiter was a little too attentive in the beginning.I had just sat down and was already asked if I knew what I wanted, which was tough since it was my first time there. Friendly staff and wait time about 15 mins for take out... depending on amount spend, get a free can of soda, which was nice. Pepper steak with rice was good. Sweet and sour chicken was bit overcooked so hard and dry even after pouring sauce on it...so tough to eat. Fortune cookies were good and nice that they provided all the additional sauces and chopsticks. Variety of food on the menu to select from. I decided to come here after having a very bad lunch, that I couldn't eat. Ohhhh, this hit the spot. $12 for a soup, egg roll, fried rice and traditional sweet-and-sour pork. I was being greedy and I ordered vegetables and oyster sauce and that was delicious. I'm sold! Flavors are great the egg drop soup, was good. In the area Christmas shopping and a store clerk recommended this restaurant. Great variety of lunch specials. I had the basil chicken, egg drop soup and brown rice. Basil chicken was a bit more spicy than anticipated but nonetheless tasty. Egg drop soup was hearty but could have included scallions. Wait staff friendly courteous professional. Very clean place. I'm a native New Yorker and have been dying for the Chinese food of my childhood. I hesitated because I rarely eat in a B-rated restaurant but went in anyway. Plenty of seating at 6:30pm but the restaurant soon filled up. I ordered egg drop soup (almost made me cry because it's exactly what I wanted); egg roll (good but a little dry) with plum sauce mixed with mustard, of course); shrimp with lobster sauce (outstanding even without ground pork, which is what I'm used to); and even though it's not on the menu, they made old-style chicken chow menu for me (no noodles, just velveted chicken with vegetables--sadly, no crispy noodles for the top). Don't @ me for ordering what I did. It's because I can't find this type of food anywhere in LA that's any good. It is expensive but most Chinese restaurants post-Covid have raised their prices significantly and never lowered them after. Waiter always tells me, "too much food" but leftovers are IMPORTANT. I was so happy to get my fix of the food I used to rag on my mom for eating when she ordered it. Now it's all I crave. I'm sure she's rolling her eyes in heaven. read more

The owner needs to educate their order taker on how to answer the phone. On July 22, 2025, I contacted Wok 88 to place an order from their lunch menu, and I was a little confused because the lunches came with soda, soup, or egg rolls. I asked the order taker, and she let out a long sigh over the phone. This makes me very hesitant to ask additional inquiries. read more

I am only slightly exaggerating when I say I feel highly blessed and highly favored to have this as my local Chinese restaurant . They serve alcohol, the lunch special is the best deal in a one mile radius, and they have ample seating, including a heated outdoor area (they get a lot of older patrons who I assume are still wary of sitting inside). The star of this review is the general tso's tofu which makes my little pescatarian heart so happy. They also have general tso's shrimp but I love the tofu so much that I let those little shellfish keep their lives when I come here. read more

If you think this is a Chinese restaurant, you might be disappointed as the dishes you can find there have limited connections with the food you will eat in China nowadays, e.g., most Chinese people don't what the egg rolls are. However, if you open up your mind and see this restaurant as Chinese American cuisine, this place is not bad at all. Chinese immigrants have rooted in this country for more than 100 years and the characters of the Chinese American cuisine tell their unique stories of successes and struggles to blend in. E.g., they replaced the yummy long yellow daylily in Moo Shoo dishes with the boring cabbage. This is so forgivable as I could never find the long yellow daylily myself in the continent of North America. It must be a nostalgic revision. Isn't it? I visited Wok 88 in mid-July 2025 with some friends after work. When we entered the restaurant, we were seated rather quickly. My first impression was it's a small place but the food must be good as people there was a steady rotation of people entering to dine. A waiter came over and brought us water right away. After a few minutes the waiter returned to take our orders. I did feel a bit rushed while looking over the menu. We received a food in about 10 minutes after we ordered. I ordered the chicken and broccoli with white rice. They only give you a small bowl of rice to go with the massive amount of chicken and broccoli. As we were eating I noticed the staff hovering over us. This was the second time I felt rushed while at this location. The staff was friendly it just seemed as though they were in a rush to get us out. They served complimentary pineapple slices when we completed our meal in which I did not eat as it seemed old. I will also tell you the prices are pretty steep. The restaurant is accessible via public transportation. They accept both cash and card. At this moment, I'm unsure whether I would return to this restaurant. read more

Worst place to dine in during COVID! I wanted to try this Americanized Chinese restaurant in UES and it was a big mistake, it was crowded and the waitress didn't check the temperature to the clients and ask for name and phone number like other restaurants that I been to, they do have a temperature scanner but they don't use it. Anyway, there's lack of social distancing by not separating the tables. The food, Oh boy the food, it taste horrible!!!! I had fried tofu with broccoli. The fried tofu taste too sweet and mushy, not like a spongelike texture that they use in hotpots. I couldn't finished the whole thing because I can't tolerate the texture of this kind of fried tofu. Moving along with the appetizer which is steamed shrimp dumplings, don't like it cuz the dumpling taste like a chalk and the shrimp taste a bit funny. I waste my money from this junk and this is my big mistake; they don't check your temperature, lack of social distancing, and they don't know how to cook; therefore, I will not dine at this Chinese restaurant" ever again! read more

Got charge $14.25 for this soup. When I ordered, the lady never told me they didn't have chicken rice soup and just said ok. She said $19.50 on the phone which I might have misheard her for $9.50 which sounded about right for chicken soup and a side of rice because it was really loud. When the ordered was picked up by someone else, that's when I found out the cost of this soup. I called back and a different lady answered and I asked how much the cost was for chicken rice soup and she said they didn't have that on the menu but they charge a chicken noodle soup price which is $10 and take out the noodles and add rice which is extra $4.25?? But the other lady never explained that and charged $14.25 which is ridiculous for this soup. If I had known the pricing of the first lady explained the break down, I would not have ordered it and their customer service is very rude. Don't expect them to fix things if they get it wrong. This was the most expensive Chinese food I've ever ordered! $17 for an order of General Tsos chicken. I called my order in and asked if it came with anything. The lady said white rice and a drink; if you wanted fried rice it'd be more. She told me 15 min on a Saturday night. I arrived and my order was ready. The restaurant itself is small, maybe 15 tables total. They do offer free delivery. The food was nothing special in my opinion. My order had 3-4 pieces of broccoli total. Chicken was bland with no real spice to it. Rice was sticky. It can easily be shared between two people. I would skip it and find a cheaper place. read more

After passing by Wok 88 countless times, we finally decided to give it a try. It's always jam packed. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table. I like how they bring hot tea when you sit down, they offer a free soft drink or glass of house wine with the purchase of an entree and they bring over orange slices and fortune cookies for dessert. These are nice touches. But it seems like they nickel and dime you a bit, charging $1 extra for brown rice, for example. Ordered: Wonton soup ($2.50)- the cup of wonton soup warmed me right up. It had two wontons and a bunch of sliced scallions on top. I would order it again. Chicken fried rice ($10)- the portion was a nice size. It had thin pieces of chicken, egg, and onion. I thought it could have benefitted from some more seasoning and salt. Chicken noodle soup with udon noodles ($12)- this bowl of soup was massive! It had a lot of steamed white meat chicken on top and a choice of noodle (udon is $1 extra). I would say this dish was a great value. Sesame chicken ($16.75)- the portion was a generous size, I couldn't finish it. The chicken was crunchy and had a sweet sesame sauce. I enjoyed it, although it wasn't the best sesame chicken I've ever had. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Wok 88. I would give the restaurant a 3.5 star rating. read more

Our go-to Chinese place. Great value for lunch pricing. I remember trying the delivery here a while back but it's just not worth it at that price and the fried stuff comes a little too soggy, so dine-in only for us if craving something fried. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a change in the cooking? I've been ordering from Wok 88 for decades and always was happy with the taste and quality. That is up to like 2 years ago. Been giving them the benefit of the doubt, I continued being a customer until day. Ordered 3 Lunch Specials. The Hot and Sour soup was bland. No taste , no seasoning. The Won Ton soup dumplings were hard and the broth again bland. The Shrimp with Garlic was sweet and sour! Never had it like this. It was always spicy. No sweetness. Is this how they're making it now?? Beef Chow Fun tasteless and the noodles were pale. Didn't have that pan fried color. So, I think I'll be taking a break from Wok 88 for a long time. Shame read more
