(February 2021) My reviews was deleted so here is another one: My friend booked her birthday event over the phone, during the pandemic, and got the "ok". The owner told my friend that she would reach out to her to confirm the menu options, she never did. The event was a day away , so my friend and I decided to go to the cafe. Long story short, the owner told her that she couldn't have the event anymore the DAY before. (Invites were already sent out btw). She mentioned gathering restrictions and the $600 fine they would be charged. Pure nonsense. Oh yeah, my friend had already secured a DJ, cake, and custom wall.Why would she even do any of that is she wasn't given the ok? Yeah...exactly! Luckily, RedRockTavern (which is 10 mins away), was able to host my friend and her 20+ guests. Masks were suffice. Piggy's clearly made up their own restrictions, and they could of just said that. In the end, we won. Piggy's lost. We'll never step foot back into this establishment. read more

$2 Coors, $6 well drinks, $6 bites (fries, wings, meatballs) can't beat the deals and it's walkable from a lot of businesses on Sigourney. Nice remodel inside and they host trivia on Wednesdays at 7pm. Check the beer chalkboard for IPAs and specials too. read more

We had a great time at happy hour recently. Despite having lived in the area since 2010, we'd never visited before the recent revamp. The interior is warm and inviting, the staff fun and on top of things, and most importantly, the food was delicious and the pour generous. They have really revamped this bar and grill.....so relaxing and such a cozy vibe now. A great little place to have a nice dinner, easy to stop in after work for Happy hour, (it's right near the Hartford transit line) or watch a UCONN Basketball game on a Saturday afternoon. They even have FREE Parking! Menu is diverse, from yummy flatbreads (try the meatball or shrimp scampi) to Seared Scallops on roasted vegetable rissoto... .. very good...you won't be disappointed with the food or the great friendly staff. Reopened and it looks fantastic! Great beer and liquor selection. The food was amazing! Went with friends for cocktails and laughs- and we enjoyed everything ! For food, we shared the crispy Brussel sprouts, the zucchini rolls and the shrimp scampi flatbread. All were amazing! Staff is very friendly! Go see Sam, she was excellent behind the bar- very attentive and an excellent mixologist! We met some new friends at ran into old friends and we had a great night overall. I stopped by here this past Wednesday afternoon for lunch with 3 other coworkers. This wasn't our original destination but whenever the place we had chosen proved to be closed, Piggys is where we headed. Our ring leader did tell us that it had been about 10 years since he had last been there so he didn't know what to expect. Whenever we entered at around 12:30 the first thing that I noticed was that we were the only people there. We were greeted by the server/bartender/cook and told to sit where ever we wanted and that the burgers took 25 minutes. After looking around the place we chose the table that looked the least sticky. The inside of Piggys actually was quite interesting with a bar on one side, a pool table on the other side and a number of tables in between. Then there is a ton of tchotchke on the walls including a giant terrible towel and a number of pigs in the window. For lunch our table decided to split a couple orders of potato skins and then for my entree I went with the burger and chose bacon, mushrooms and blue cheese as my toppings. After a little bit of a wait our potato skins came out first on styrofoam plates and were actually quite good. They were filled with cheese and bacon, so how could they be bad? As promised before we had ordered our burgers took a little while and eventually came out along with sides of mayo. The burger looked bigger than I had expected and since I was hungry, I quickly dove into it. Unfortunately what I thought was melted cheese ended up being a large amount of mayo already on the burger. So that pretty much killed any chance of me really enjoying the burger. The patty itself wasn't too bad and neither were the toppings although I wish there had been a little more blue cheese. The bottom line for me is that I probably wouldn't head back to Piggys again in the future, at least for food. While it wasn't bad I have to admit that I was happy whenever I didn't get sick later in the night. read more

If I could give this place a negative 5 review I would. We came here on a Wednesday night for drinks/dancing and were treated SO terribly. Their manager has TERRIBLE customer service I couldn't believe she was a "manager." She literally pushed us out of the way with a table and screamed at us when all she had to do was ask us to move. Definitely won't be giving this place my business ever. No wonder their constantly getting shut down. read more

Again, I wish there were 1/2 star ratings, b/c my true rating for this place is 3 and 1/2 stars. Located in Asylum Hill not far from the Aetna Building, Piggy's is an old-school neighborhood bar. Unless someone's having their birthday here, you won't often find it packed. You also won't find any hipsters or yuppies, or many white folks on most nights (though if you go during the day, as I found out yesterday, there are more white patrons, most likely from Aetna). Like I said, old-school neighborhood bar. It's pretty quiet, although there is a jukebox. There are also a couple of pool tables and some TVs. Pool tables are always a plus for me. I'm not very good at pool, but after a few drinks I do like to play. Bar staff is friendly and unlike many neighborhood bars filled with grumpy old men and sad sacks, the patrons tend to be friendly as well. Last time I was there they had a live jazz band which was a nice treat. No cover and the bar was dead, so I think they were just playing for fun. And it was the first jazz trio I've seen in a while that wasn't composed exclusively of middle-aged white guys-- all young, two black guys and a white guy-- somehow that made them a lot less sad than your average jazz band you run across. Not that I'm any expert on jazz, but I liked having some live music without a cover that's not a shitty cover band. Bottom line: Piggy's-- solid neighborhood bar. read more

So... No one has posted a review since 2012? So here it is. 1. It is a hole in a wall type of place ( a local bar). 2. Wednesday night is surprisingly poppin! The DJ (DJ Chaotic) was amazing. He played every old school from the 90's(hip hop) and some new hip hop stuff. 3. The crowd was mature ( not elderly). about mid 30's to early 40's 4. There is a dance floor, two pool tables and a good size bar. 5. The bartender was pretty cool. 6. Famous wings?? are simply wing dings (tasty but no big deal) Overall, a good place to hang out with your girls, fellas, whoever and reminisce. *Planning on checking out Piggy's Café on Friday because I heard it is even more fun and the DJ is back again. read more

Wanted some place to shake my booty in a Friday night and a random guy I met out on the street recommended this place. It's perfect! Went on a weeknight with friends. This is a friendly and comfortable place with great food. We chatted with the owner who is the daughter of the man who started the cafe 40 years ago. She has expanded the menu to include"as she said" the kind of food I like to cook at home. We all greatly enjoyed our meal. My zucchini rolls were crispy on the outside with warm herbed ricotta inside. My friends had short ribs and the pork shop with apples. read more

Went here Friday with a couple friends. The atmosphere was friendly, tastefully decorated and cozy. There was even fireplace and Christmas decorations. We ordered drinks and appetizers at the bar. The bartender, Sam was very personable and prompt with refills. We ordered several of the appetizers, crispy brussel sprouts with balsamic glaze, fried zucchini rolls filled with ricotta cheese served with marinara sauce, shrimp scampi flatbread with Parmesan and meatballs with cheese and marinara. Everything was served timely, and did not disappoint! The food was awesome! So much so that I struggle to choose a favorite! I will definitely be back here! Excellent service, music, drinks environment. Drinks are NEVER watered down. Not the most flashy or stylish but that's what makes it great. If you feel like watching the game or just listening to some R&B and Hip Hop it's the place to go. I love that it's finally smoke free.
