I had a terrible experience at the Danvers location, I feel like I can't get through this without crying. On Monday 5/9 I went for my touch up appointment. I had been a micro blading model for a student and had a follow up with someone else. My original appointment was at 2. I drove 45 mins, got there on time and was told 5 mins past my appointment start that the student they scheduled for my touch up wasn't coming in. They offered to start 40 or so minutes later when a different student arrived. I begrudgingly agreed because I was already there and I was reminded appointments were hard to come by. Finally about an hour went by (3pm) and they were ready. I told them I needed to leave by 3:45 latest to get my children from daycare and they assured me they could do it (my first mistake I should have known doing such procedure rushed is probably not The best idea). Anywho long story short... I'm on day 10 of healing and my brows look terrible. I lost Almost all my natural brow hairs on one side and the ink is barely even visible (it's this strange gray ash color). I went to see another PMU after being brushed off by the staff at Pigementa as if it wasn't a big deal. The PMU I saw said she believes the artist went too deep and damaged my hair follicles and that's also why the color isn't as strong. The reaction and nonchalant responses I got from Pigmenta was concerning. They basically brushed me off and told me there's no way they go too deep. One of the worst experiences of my life, I thought I was going to lose my eyesight in my right eye. She put some kind of drops in my eyes and they immediately started burning. She told me in a minute I wouldn't feel anything because they were new it was numbing drops. She had done permanent eyeliner on me before without using drops but for some reason she had numbing drops. I never felt the pain while she was puncturing my eye until the drops wore off. I thought I was going to die! I was brought to the emergency room by my daughter and transferred to Mass. eye and ear because the damage was too much for the hospital that I was first brought to. I told Julia what was happening to me and she begged me to come back and let her look, so my daughter brought me back there first. She then proceeded to say I had a minor abrasion and maybe I should go to the hospital just for safety. After that I didn't hear from her in 3 Days. She told me I was being dramatic I ended up being out of work for one week in severe pain. If I could give her zero stars I would but it makes me give her at least one star. I would never recommend her again for this type of service. I researched microblading for at least a year and though Pigmenta's prices are a little more than some other places there is a reason and it is the years of experience and professionalism here. I was extremely impressed with Pigmenta. Carolee, Julia's assistant, is very knowledgeable and sociable, and Julia is truly a master of her craft. She had her work cut out for her too, as my brows were a bit of a mess when I came in. Having had my brows done in the past, I must say this was one of the least painful experiences I've ever had - they must use some potent numbing cream. Unlike other aestheticians I've gone to, Julia gave me the exact color and thickness I wanted, and crafted the perfect arch. She uses the hair-stroke technique so that your brows look natural. Ok- I admit, when I left there I hated it hated it hated it! I wanted something casual and felt like I had something very deliberate and Groucho Marx like . I waited a day or two because I knew it was going to get darker, I suffered, and resigned myself to the fact that I would have to get it "undone "and then a week later I love love love love love it. Julia Bowers is a licensed cosmetic tattoo artist. She does permanent makeup, and uses some kind of brush-stroke needle vs a tattoo gun for a very natural look. I think Julia is good at consulting and she will even correct other poor microblading from other artists. That said she has a very specific style that might not be everyone's taste. I definitely recommend looking at her work to see if you like it. It is very linear and not feathery so what you see there is what you'll get. I personally didn't like it too much as it made my eyebrows look heavy. I think she does and teaches the older style of microblading. The biggest issue I had was that the dark (almost black) ink faded to a red on my pale skin. Also the tails were done lower than my actual hair growth. It resulted in me looking like I had two tails on each eyebrow. I tried to talk to her about how I was not happy with it. She then became a lot more terse and I could tell she wasn't willing to work things out without a fight. After everything healed about a year later I got laser removal on my eyebrows. Still getting a few sessions on one of the brows because she tried to "fix" it using a coverup of nude colored ink. I don't recommend this as my laser technician says it makes it harder to remove as the light pigments are unpredictable. The other eyebrow the laser technician fixed and was able to remove all the red and one of the double tails. A big thank you to Disappearing Ink for removing what was an unfavorable microblading tattoo. read more

I had my eyebrows done 1 month ago and went back for the complimentary touch up yesterday. I was not prepared for the intensity of the initial color application and called to ask how I could remove some of the color. After talking with a very friendly and helpful assistant, she convinced me to stick with it and follow the instructions. After 5 days, as indicated by the instructions, my skin healed and the darkness faded by 50%. The color and shape are perfect. After the touch up yesterday the color intensity is less than the initial application. If you want perfect eyebrows, see Julia. I do think when making the appointment Pigmenta should warn customers about the initial color intensity. It can be shocking! If not for this I would give Pigmenta 5 stars! read more

I've been going to Julia for brows about three years now, twice a year for boosts. Julia has been practicing for 20 years and is an expert in her craft. She can recognize immediately what brow shape will flatter your features best, but is always extremely willing to make many modifications based on your own suggestions. I'm Asian with light, somewhat patchy brows. After getting them filled I was a lot more confident and could ditch all my brow pencils. After healing, my brows are extremely natural looking, due in part to Julia's ability to choose a color that suited my natural brows. I will say that right after the procedure and during the few days following, your brows will be really dark, solid and even a little scary, so don't freak out. However I'm still giving 5 stars because I've talked to many others in the industry and they all say it's unavoidable. TERRIBLE! She did the worst job on my eyes! And she did them out of someone's house - is that even allowed? They faded quickly afterwards, and the dark brown ink turned pink! So now I HAVE to use eyeliner everyday. And they're sore - feels like scar tissue there. Defeats the whole purpose of permanent makeup. When I called for a refund, I ended up in a battle with her legal person. She tried to get me to sign a confidential release and indemnity agreement. Basically she refused to REFUND me money and denied any wrongdoing on her part. BUT she agreed to pay me the exact amount I paid for the service $880 if I agreed to keep quiet about my experience. Makes me wonder how many other clients had to sign away their right to share their experience in order to obtain their money back. So I decided to give up my $880 for the right to warn everyone else to be careful when using her services. Full disclosure - this was YEARS ago. But Yelp removed prior reviews stating I violated the rules by naming the name of her legal person, etc. And I saw that she's still doing permanent makeup so here I am. BUYER BEWARE ~ this was a nightmare from the start as I received a call 3 days before my appointment that they needed to change the date (I was going to surprise an out-of-town friend with the treatment). The woman was rude when I spoke with her and just as rude when I arrived. The treatment was pain-free and took exactly the alotted time of 45 minutes! The results - a clumpy disgusting MESS that took me 3 months to get rid of and I lost about 25 eyelashes in that timeframe. This "Esthetician" did not have a clue what she was doing. If you enjoy having eye-lashes do yourself a favor and just use mascara everyday. This was a huge mistake! P.S. I bought a groupon for this place to get eyelash extentions, i walked in and no one was at the front desk, the Russian lady was still doing someones lashes. Was awkward. Then i waited 20min even though i was on time. I got my lashes done took 2 and a half hours!!! She said "i want to make sure you are happy with your lashes" of course but this has turned into a 3hr stint. Lashes were good but the service sucked. I went back again because lashes were good but waited 40 MINUTES!!! Same excuse, different day. I expected a discount or free eyebrow tint or something but nothing still got asked for a tip. I have been getting my eyebrows done for several years now and I'm always very happy. The color is more intense at first but fades in a couple of weeks to a perfect color. I have very few eyebrow hairs left but they look great with the tattoos. I also got the eyeliner on upper and lower lids which I love. Julia is the best.
