Such a great experience! We took our daughter here last week for her very first hair cut. We definitely picked the right place. We had the first appointment of the day. Dara was who did the haircut. She was so sweet and patient, and made sure our daughter was okay the whole time. Our daughter was scared of the cape to keep the hair clippings off of her and Dara gave her animal crackers and put on her favorite show to calm her nerves. They give you a printed photo with a lock of their hair as a first haircut memento. It was such a nice touch. Our daughter even enjoyed the play area afterwards. 10/10. Will be back! read more

This place is cute for kids! Their chairs vary from fire trucks to police cars. They also put on cartoons for the kids to watch during their haircut. The haircuts themselves are hit or miss. I book whoever is available, so sometimes it's a great cut and other times not so much. It's on the pricey side for a kid's haircut, but ambiance makes it worth it. read more

Our little guy is just shy of two and we were cutting his hair at home up until his little brother was born... needless to say we needed some extra support for some things around the house. We were going to swing by to see if they were accepting walk-ins on a Sunday, but on the way thought to call. Glad we did because they were booked, but we lucked out and were able to snag an appointment for only two hours later! Once we were checked in for the appointment, our little guy chose an airplane as his seat of choice, was very nervous the entire time but his stylist was able to take length off the sides and the top within ten minutes and regardless of his ability to communicate, she kept him comfortable and explained what she was doing to him, not us, which I appreciate! No tears shed and a positive experience later we are glad we chose pigtails and Crewcuts for a first official haircut! read more

We came here for my son's first haircut at 2.5yo and had a wonderful experience. Ruby was so great and instantly put my son at ease. If this review was just for her, I would give 5 stars! However, we went back for haircut #2. Instead of selecting a stylist (since Ruby was unavailable), I opted for first available. That is where I went wrong and have certainly learned my lesson. Catherine was my son's hair stylist for his second haircut. He was perfectly still, compliant, and excited for another haircut. She was lovely, but cut his hair shorter than I had asked...which honestly, was not a big deal to me at all. At some point she completely wet his hair down, and the haircut was finished shortly after. Paid, tipped, and went home. By the time we got home, it was dry and very apparent that his hair was totally butchered. Pretty disappointing after our first experience being so great. This salon is great for littles, but this is your warning to chose the right stylist. read more

I am completely unsatisfied with the service. I went to the salon on Saturday and took my 3-year-old daughter with me. She was sitting still, watching TV, while her hair was being cut. I noticed that one side was shorter than the other and pointed it out, but the person cutting her hair kept insisting that she was creating layers. She also said that because my daughter's hair is somewhat curly, it tends to lift. I decided not to argue further, as I was afraid her hair would end up even shorter. Instead, I went home to check it more carefully -- and this was the result. I'm very frustrated. Now I have to fix this, and while I'm thankful that hair grows back, this experience was very disappointing. read more

I hesitated on writing this review as one stylist doesn't reflect all, but the more I think about our experience the more I was inclined to share our experience. Luckily hair grows back so no big deal in the long run. This was my sons second haircut (first one being at the eastlake location) and we will not return. We left with my sons hair being completely uneven and noticed later that his ear had been nicked in the process. The stylist that cut my sons hair was shaky the entire time and even though we asked for a 3 all around, he ended up having to go shorter and my son was still left with patches. We definitely could have done a better job at home with no experience. I got an email to take a survey the next day so I took the survey and received a voicemail from the salon later on. The staff member who left the voicemail seemed completely irritated by my survey responses and while they offered a free haircut on our next visit I was unconvinced that they cared at all. Called for an appt on a tuesday afternoon, and we were able to come in a couple hours later. Covid safe, they have very limited number of people inside, and everything was sanitized between cusfomers. Brought my litte man in and he put up a huge fight. LoL. But the girl cutting my hair was calm, vert friendly, and did a pretty good job on a skin fade with clean lines, and short on the top. Not bad considering my kid did not stay still for one second. We had a great experience at Pigtails and Crewcuts for both my kids. We were recommended to this place by other parents at our daycare and it did not disappoint. Becky did my daughter's hair and Allison did my son's. Allison helped us pick the right style for our 16 month old going with a scissor cut and did a great job blending in his cowlicks. We were offered gel to style at the end but I opted out this time. My daughter had a great connection with Becky from the start. She was comfortable talking to her and showing off her doll. My daughter was there for her first haircut at 4 years old. I asked to take off the dry ends and to round out the bottom and we got a great cut at the end. She also styled it with some braids and a bow. Both kids were entertained by their favorite movie and it was a fun touch sitting in car and airplane chairs. They have animal crackers or lollipop treats and toy from the treasure chest after the cut. We're about a 30 minute drive from this location and will be coming back in the future after this great experience! read more

Great idea but the staff have terrible attitudes. Arrived 5 minutes early and they wouldn't let my child in to use the bathroom. I purchased a bang cut and she wouldn't even out the side bang -literally a 1/4 inch thick strand saying it was part of the haircut package. Refused to style bangs and by style I mean comb and cut them- only a straight line bowl cut. His bangs were also unevenly cut. I evened the bangs out myself before returning to his typical hair salon who said it would take a few weeks for the uneven cut to grow out fully but she still was able to make my son look handsome and fix the uneven bowl cut he was provided. read more

It was our first time for a kids cut at the San Diego location. First off, I love the location. They are located in Liberty station. Perfect location to just stroll a short distance over to grab a bite to eat in the nearby Liberty market or corvette diner. Miniature golf is across the parking lot so going to get a kids cut can easily turn into a nice family day. I LOVED my daughter's kid cut, the stylist was amazing with my daughter and very patient. She did a great job and my daughter felt comfortable sitting in her cute little car while she got her hair cut and styled. I love that they give kids treats, bows or ribbons for their hair and let them choose a prize out of the bin before leaving. Prices are decent, they offer a military discount as well. The entire salon was small but cozy, clean and organized. I love that they play movies for the kids while they get their hair cut and have a children's waiting area to keep them entertained. They sell hair products, bows, small bears and more. We will be returning customers! read more

My husband really wanted to take our kid to "his guy," an adult barber. This just shows what little men know about children. Don't get me wrong, he's a great dad. Drops off and picks up our kid from daycare, feeds him dinner, bathes him, and puts him to bed before I get home from my long shift! He even has to watch him solo when I work on the weekends! But men just don't think things through like women...or do women just overthink?! Oh well... Super long unnecessary story short, this place is rad. Lots of little distractors to help minimize meltdowns. The animal crackers are such a nice touch. I swear my son was ready to lose it when we went in. No breakfast (didn't want to eat), refused his nap, and teething! He lit up when he saw the car seats. He happily ate his crackers. Talia was super quick and efficient. No tears. This new method of checking in online is beyond stupid. Why? Ok so the place doesn't open until 10am, and from the bat there is already a two hour wait (How I have no idea). As the two hours pass by I check on the website again and now somehow there's another hour to wait. I call the business to see if I can come in since it's been over 2 hours. I get here and there's still someone ahead of my so called "appointment" which is strange since I was already told over the phone I was first in line. Then, when I ask in person what's the point of this online check in??? The receptionist says in a sarcastic tone "so you don't wait here for the whole 2 hours" LOL. I asked for a slick back & a #1 medium fade, it became a combover and I had tried to tell her.. slick BACK, like back... so now my son's hair is short. I couldn't really check on my sons hair well because he was getting upset. But when I went home, my son's hair was crooked af. One side has more hair then the other. This was probably the worst experience my son and I have went thru at a children's hair salon. My son is on the spectrum, he's very high functioning but needs a little patience. Which you would think a children's hairdresser would have. Charlene I believe her name is was so rude. She kept making comments like, "wow" "guess I won't be needing to go to the gym today". Not to mention the looks she kept giving my son. Children can be hard to give a haircut to I get it, but if you have a problem with working with kids and find them annoying maybe you shouldn't be a children's hairdresser. I had been a returning customer and recommended this salon to all my friends. I had always arrived to my appointments at least 15 minutes early. I'm a very prompt person and respect people's time. Even when I arrived early, we'd have to wait 5-10 minutes past our appointment time to be seen. I never made a fuss and patiently waited. I understand being late to appointments will domino effect to other client appointments, but there are some things we cannot control despite leaving early: like accidents on the roads and unpredictable traffic. I arrived with my two young kids to get their haircuts after running from the parking lot, 8 minutes late. And I was told they couldn't take us and we had to reschedule. I did everything I could to get to the appointment on time. But unpredictable road hazards are out of my control. Mix in all the meltdowns and tantrums I had to put out along the way. There was no empathy or understanding in the situation. My 3 year old was in tears. My 5 year old said "but mom, I ran so fast to try and make it to our haircut." I got an email where they marked my appointment as a "no show". I was clearly there. Showing up. A frazzled mother but no grace was given. This salon has lost a loyal customer. read more

The place is really nice and I love the waiting area for siblings. Some things to note: A. If your child is sensitive to noise and you have never been to Liberty Station, you should know planes fly above constantly and the noise is loud. Example: you have to actually stop talking as planes go by because you won't hear the person talking to you unless you are super close or read lips. B. It can be busy and the walk can be long from wherever you park if you go during a busy time. C. All appointments only online D. DO NOT let Dora give your daughter bangs. She did it for my baby's 1st haircut and they were way too short. I took her there to have a professional do it and I seriously could have done a better job. She asked me to hold her head and the cut a straightish line across with wet hair and obviously dry it was shorter. I like straight lines and do lots of different hairstyles and this will not do. I had to pin her bangs back for pictures the next day because I was embarrassed. read more

My 4 year old daughter has had to come here twice to get her ears pierced and both times they had her pick her top 3 choices of earrings and both times told us they were out of them. They were 7 minutes late and denied service because the grace period is 5 minutes. Eventually they found him a new time slot and they returned for it.
