Joy is quite the joy! She took my kiddo in as a walk in for a haircut. I will say I'm impressed! So much personality had a great conversation and she was amazing with my sweet Kk. She interacted with him like he was part of the grown up gang (grandma and I were both chatting it up with Joy) and she was so great answering back with him. So why does this matter? So many adults are so self indulged and ignore kids. So this factor is high on our list when it comes with customer service. I am very picky with who touches my hair. I was once bald (due to chemo) and I don't want anyone messing up my long hair since it took so long to grow out. I have really dark hair. I normally write my reviews strictly on Google, but I want the praise to reach a wider audience because I have finally found a style that I'm happy to commit to and I need to ensure that I can count on coming to this salon for Holly to take the scissors to me. A little bit of background on my hair's previous state: keratin straightened 3C with instances of 4A mixed ethnicity hair that started thinning in heaps this past winter resultant of bereavement stress. Fast forward eight odd months later, I became tired of trying to save the sinking ship that was my hair and resolved to crop off the back, so I came across Shearology on a web search. I called on Wednesday 7/21 and scored an appointment for two days later. Friday came, and I was introduced to my stylist for the affair: Holly. All my life I've only ever trusted my mom and myself to make changes to my hair, so it was very unnerving to let a stranger do something as massive and irreversible as a cut. I'd often heard (and then had the exact experience during my first and last time at a salon back when I was a teenager) that stylists will sometimes give you the style they envision, not what you want. That was how my mom explained away my bland hackjob of a hair cut that her stylist from the early eighties had given me circa 2008. I had went into that previous experience with dreams of a Rihanna good-girl-gone-bad bob, but left looking like a six-year-old all polished up for church, very antithetical to punk. So with that memory from thirteen years prior in the back of my mind, the present-day nerves were warranted. Coming back to the present here and now, those past hair traumas began to dissolve during the consultation. Both Holly and the salon's owner (I think) were present as I showed them a blend of photos to explain what I wanted, and they understood exactly that it was a nape-length stacked bob with piecey-ness that I was after. I felt a lot more certain that I'd actually leave with what I wanted, so the dry cutting officially began. As Holly snipes and shaped, she informed me on how to achieve the textured/piecey look I was after (this salon sells a Hair Taffy product that has made me a bit less fearful of wax/pomade products.) About twenty minutes later, the scissors were down and my hair looked alive again. I had even went out on a limb and trusted her to clean up my beloved 2000s Myspace Emo side bangs which even I myself am forbidden to cut; her strategic snips managed to make them beautifully taller!! I left the shop feeling really good about my new style, but after doing my own wash, blowout and straighten at home, I was officially a permanent resident on cloud nine. Even without anything but my standard heat protectant serum in it, every layer was defined and perfectly graduated, my hair was as thick as it was tall, and best of all it had its movement and bounce back! Holly is new to Shearology, but she absolutely nailed my hair vision to the point where I woke up this morning in legit love with my bedhead (the photos are literally fresh off the pillow.) I was able to wake up, just run a comb through it to fluff, and go! It's amazing how my hair got progressively more perfect overnight. My experience at Shearology has managed to successfully overwrite that previous hair butchering of my youth that gave me a mistrust of stylists. They pulled my vision out of my head and put it ON my head flawlessly, and I couldn't be more grateful to be feeling organically beautiful again thanks to Holly. read more

I have gone to see Joy at Shearology three times now, and have really liked my cut/style/color each time. She is very reasonably priced and gives a discount if you mention Yelp OR if you send her a referral. She doesn't push products on you (which I hate because I always buy them and then never use them again) and most importantly she is efficient with time. After having my hair ruined by someone else, who shall not be mentioned as they are not the focus of this pleasant post - Iooked at reviews for hair salons and quickly came across the ones raving for Shearology Salon. I booked my appointment for my hair-repair, even though no appointment is required. A super pleasant Debbie answered the phone and was more than glad to assist me in getting in same-day, in just a few hours. She told me that I would be meeting with Mallory. I arrived to my appointment roughly 10 minutes early, and was comforted by the demeanor and atmosphere of the salon. Debbie, whom I had spoken to, sat with another client who was having her hair color repaired after an incident, while Mallory finished up on someone else. The overall vibe is pleasant and very chill. I showed Mallory a picture of what I wanted, and she was able to effortlessly match it. And my hair is a very difficult/thick texture to work with. My daughters and I have been going to Debbie for 20 years. We were very excited when she recently opened her own salon, Shearology. Over the years we have done different colors and cuts. Debbie always lets us know which styles would work for our face shape and lifestyle. She is an expert when it comes to current cuts/styles and hair coloring. The only person that has ever done my hair was my mother, however; she is 2,500 miles away and since moving to San Diego, I've only ever got my hair cut once. Even though Shearology is technically a new salon, everyone working there has been cutting and styling hair for YEARS, most of them formerly at Golden Touch near Fashion Valley. These are experienced stylists. I've seen dozens of people leave after having their hair cut by the other stylists here and it always looks awesome. As for the salon itself, it's a very open space with tile floors and fancy black chairs and sinks. It's gorgeous, clean, and inviting. I've been seeing Debbie, the owner, for a long time. She always does a fantastic job, whether it's highlights, a new haircut, or "just a trim". I'm a student so I don't have the time or need for a cut that I need to blow-dry everyday. Debbie always gives me a cut that is exactly attuned to my needs and lays nicely. She is incredibly consistent and great at her job, and has been cutting hair for forever. She's also nice and fun to talk to! I also have a pretty specific style--a medium-short bob with bangs--and she always gets it right. I get compliments on my hair really often thanks to her. I know they have a first-timers discount going on right now too, so y'all should get on that. read more

I am a brat with my hair but she totally listens to what i want to do and makes it happen (even better than i explained to her haha). She is always chatty and hilarious. I tried this place after being referred by a neighbor and I have to say I was pretty happy I gave it a shot! I'm very simple with my hair, I get a trim and thinning done every couple months so I can grow it out long enough to donate (I have very thick hair). Getting a simple trim and thinning should be a hard thing to mess up, well, after my experience at my lady salon I realized it's actually not! My hair got butchered!! We all have those times where we desperately need a haircut, whether it be because we haven't properly maintained our hair (guilty) or we fried our hair by not using proper heat protectant (guilty). Today, I finally bit the bullet and decided to rid myself of my damaged ends and I stumbled upon Shearology Salon. Now, I have had PLENTY of terrible haircuts in the past, and because of this I get nervous to put my locks in someone else's hands. However, at Shearology, as I would come to learn, you won't have to worry. I found parking in the strip mall and I walked into the store. I was quickly greeted and one of the ladies looked at the appointment book and said I could be fit in at that moment. I was excited that I wouldn't have to return later in the day, so plus one for that. Mallory, my stylist, introduced herself to me and led me to the hair washing station. She washed my hair and eventually brought me to the chair to have my hair cut. She talked with me and before long we were conversing like we were friends. All the other ladies seemed to be very talkative with their clients as well. After an hour, Mallory revealed my new style to me, and I loved it! She has he magic touch for my hair.
