Views meandering around the market
Sarah W.

We enjoyed walking around the iconic market during our October city visit and taking in all of the views of artwork, wares for sale, people watching, companion pets, etc. Almost a carnival atmosphere and fun to view in person after having only seeing it on film or print before the visit. We were disappointed not to see throwing the fish because we were too impatient to wait around for the specific times. Maybe next visit we'll be sure to schedule appropriately to see this.

Not a great way to start a review but I think this one will be shorter than others as I only stood around and watched all the fun for a few minutes... I did taste some of their amazing smoked salmon and was extremely impressed, but what everyone recognizes here is the throwing of the fish from the floor display to the counter. The indoor / outdoor vibe here is pretty cool and besides their knowledge of their products they put on a really fun show. They have an amazing stock of fish and shell fish. Anything you can think of, they have. Beautiful big-fresh everything. Prices are reasonable for their quality, size, and freshness. The big thing here is watching them throw the fish to the counter from the floor display. I watched them give a lesson to the young lady behind the counter and moments later tossed a huge salmon and she caught it. This is quite the operation. I am sure that if I lived here I would be a regular customer. But... as luck has it, they ship. I am sure I will be trying something soon. KUDOs to the team at Pike Place Fish Market.

Fish-throwing spectacle [Seattle WA] The market is near the waterfront at the historic Pike Place Market and is a must-visit even to just watch the famous fish-throwing antics of the fish vendors. These guys are fun to watch, almost like a tourist attraction, they create an entertaining atmosphere and there's always a crowd around them waiting for someone to purchase fish (salmon, halibut, tuna)... when a customer purchases any of their fish the fishmongers toss fish to each other across the stands, they do it with such skill and knack it's entertaining. I've not seen any of them drop a fish. They're so fast that I kept missing catching them on video. I was able to capture a "show." Great customer service. The guys are friendly and will even offer seafood preparation and cooking techniques. Oh, they ship anywhere in the USA, straight from Seattle WA! Instagram: @pikeplacefish Review #3859

While looking around with my friend my eyes caught a cup of oysters in cocktail sauce I wanted to try. The people working here are humorous and engaging with customers through their conversations and light chats! The oysters in cocktail sauce was fabulous. The oysters were so fresh, plump sizes and with the mix of cocktail sauce ...each bite was delicious and I savored the veelast bite! Other fish items looked fresh as well....i just wasn't out looking for fish that day.

Always entertaining and ultra popular among the people. The locals appreciate the fresh fish and the tourists enjoy making memories. If you are in the mood for some fresh seafood, they do have a nice array of seafood samples.

I have ordered from this market in the past and the fish and seafood alway arrives in perfect condition. The products are always top-notch. They take care and how they ship their products I needed a little seafood for my Italian Christmas Eve so this is who I turned to. I am never disappointed.

This market is a section of Pike Place that features a large selection of fresh seafood. You will find anything from fresh salmon to fresh oysters and everything in between. Prices are reasonable and if you catch them at the right time, they offer free samples. They gave us a free sample of their smoked salmon and boy was it delicious. Parking is located on the outskirts of the market and at several parking lots around downtown Seattle. Be prepared to walk. This is a high traffic area and parking close by fills up fast. If you like quiet destinations, this might not be the place for you. It gets very busy, often shoulder to shoulder. If you bring your kids, keep them close as there maybe a lot of bumping. Overall if you're in the area and want to buy super fresh seafood, this is the place to go.

No one's on the receiving end, so he's throwing the fish to himself. lol!

+ Poppin' tourist attraction. Always crowded. Come watch them do their trademark fish-throwing! + Friendly, helpful staff. - Somewhat a struggle to find parking to get here, considering how bustlin' Pike Market is. - They take too long to throw the fish. Sometimes wait 5min, sometimes 20+. I understand for the market's sake they want us to buy fish, but c'mon D: lol

Located in Pike Place Market! Seafood of all kinds is located in plain view resting on ice. Plenty of staff available for questions on pricing. On my visit they did not throw fish ...bummer!

Despite this being a touristy place, it is SO worth the visit. THE SALMON CANDY IS INSANE!!! I would ship this across the country because it is just that good. The staff there is also so friendly and helpful :)

I have never bought fish here. But did once do a walking food tour and made a stop here to meet the employees. Anyway.. my review is based off the fun atmosphere created around this place. I remember seeing a teamwork training video at a job years ago of these guys throwing fish around. It was meant to promote teamwork and show that it is ok to have fun at your job. This place always has a large crowd around it waiting for the next fishmongers in orange rubber overalls and boots to hurl a fish at someone. They used to throw fish all the time. But I have noticed that the last few times that I have been here, they don't throw the fish as much. Pike Place Fish Market is an open-air fish market in Pike Place Market that started in 1930. The have a cool story about how the fish throwing got its start. This place was near bankruptcy in the 80's before they started to throw fish and interact with customers more to attract attention. This strategy worked and they drew national attention by getting on television. Pike Place Fish Market was eventually named as one of the top places to work in the U.S. Today it is a tourist attraction and once of the most popular places to visit at Pike Place Market. Pike Place Fish Market ships nationwide and offers overnight fresh seafood delivery to anywhere in the US. They are committed to sourcing seafood in ways to minimize damaging impacts to the oceans and freshwater environments.

This is a must see. They are throwing fish and working with the crowd. It's really fun to watch. Known all over the world. Plus it's all freshly caught. You have to see it.

Such a great place to visit in Pike Place. Get there early and either hope someone buys fish or just ask them to throw fish - they're game! The energy here is so great - lots of yelling, salty sailor style. The people working here seem to truly enjoy being there, and they love chatting with folks walking around as well. Their aprons also have a bit of individualistic flair. They have some swag, and they sell this wonderful smoked salmon. Last time I visited, I was so sad that I didn't take some smoked salmon home. I didn't make the same mistake this time! They say it lasts 10hr out of the fridge, a month or so in the fridge, and a lot longer in the freezer. We took it on the plane and didn't dig in until about 9 hours after buying it, and it was still great! They also ship their fish too.

Experiencing their dry-aged fish Omakase offering in person this week was a reminder of why I enjoy purchasing from Local Market whenever I'm on the East Side. The owner Mark is incredibly knowledgeable, down to earth and willing to answer any silly question you may have. His passion for his craft is obvious, and this company deserves nothing but the best!

What immediately caught our attention (for obvious reasons) was the bold sign: LIVE KING CRAB. We walked in and were instantly impressed. Large water tanks filled with live Dungeness crab and live king crab, crystal-clear water, and absolutely no fishy smell--always an excellent sign. The space feels more like a clean, well-run warehouse set up for both wholesale and retail, not a typical seafood market. A gentleman working there quickly came over and started chatting with us about crab. Super knowledgeable and friendly. They offer a wide selection: live, fresh, and frozen crab, Japanese scallops, fish, and a variety of shellfish. We considered the live king crab, but it was honestly too big for the two of us to handle in a hotel kitchen--and definitely would've been a splurge. So, plan B: I called my sister-in-law to see if she'd like some frozen king crab legs. She said yes immediately. The gentleman showed us the frozen options, and the king crab legs were long, meaty, and impressive--similar in size to what Costco carries, but priced better. We ended up negotiating a great deal and purchased a box of their Party Pack King Jumbo Crab Legs for her. Later that evening, she surprised her daughter with a king crab birthday dinner, and they reported the legs were super meaty and absolutely delicious. Safe to say, we'll definitely keep Seattle Seafood Center in mind for future seafood splurges. If you love high-quality seafood and especially crab, this place is worth a stop--even if it's an unplanned one.
