I came to Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital on Tuesday seeking emergency care for our family dog, as his primary vet couldn't accommodate an emergency appointment. Biscuit had ingested a bone and was visibly experiencing distressing symptoms while trying to digest or pass it. The appointment ended with accusations of mistreatment toward our animal, a police report being filed, and Everett Animal Control taking custody of my pet while they investigate the situation. We are no longer able to visit our dog, receive timely updates on his care, or make decisions regarding his care. If he is released, it will be to a kill shelter. We are pursuing all possible legal responses. This is a nightmare that no loving pet parent should ever have to experience. I wish I had read reviews on this clinic and been more selective about where I took our dog for emergency care, but nobody thinks of that during a time of distress. Our visit was grossly mishandled. In my opinion, the clinic failed to properly diagnose our dog and fully explore reasonable medical explanations regarding his condition, and the consequences of that are absolutely unfathomable. I was THREATENED ON MY WAY OUT. infront of many customers and other STAFF employees who said NOTHING. I took my cat here at 2PM. I was concerned that I thought she had been throwing up blood. we waited for 3 hours for her to even get into the back room. it is now 8pm. I find out from my husband that the blood I found was not my cats and initially his from a bloody nose. stupid right? I KNOW. ANYWAYS. My cat had been sitting back there for almost 8 HOURS without being seen or worked on. BEFORE hand, I informed everyone, BE careful she is not a friendly cat, she will need to get anesthesia to be worked on. ( I KNOW THIS because she was put under anesthesia at all her previous vet visits) WHAT DO THEY DO? try to work on her while she is fully aware and she scratches and bites one of their employees. she is a strictly INDOOR cat with no human contact other than my husband and I. When I came in they wanted to rush me with questions, TOOK paperwork from me because I couldn't tell them off the top of my head which vet i took her to in california for her visits, so they assumed she had no shots in her 4 years of living? i didn't even get the CHANCE to fill out her vaccination paperwork. fast forward to when im leaving, a staff brings my cat out, all her stuff outside of her carrier, she said "here is your cat ALSO YOUR CAT BIT AND SCRATCHED SOMEONE AND THEY HAD TO GO TO THE E.R AND BECAUSE YOUR CAT DOESNT HAVE RABIES SHOT I REPORTED YOU TO THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND THEY WILL BE FOLLOWING UP WITH YOU" like what the fuck? excuse me?? if you thought she had rabies why wouldn't you put it on the paperwork? if you thought she had rabies why didn't you recommend that shot during her visit? If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I brought my dog here in the middle of the night because I believed he simply had a UTI. From the moment we arrived, the staff was cold and unwelcoming. The entire experience felt like a money grab rather than a place that truly cares about animals or the people who love them. Before barely even examining my dog, the doctor told me I needed to "prepare myself for the worst," which was incredibly alarming and completely inappropriate given how little evaluation had been done. During the visit, the doctor punctured my dog's bladder while attempting a procedure and then immediately sent me to VSC (which I highly recommend and will only be taking my dogs to from now on) because it seemed she didn't know what to do next. I then had to rush my dog who was now breathing heavily from the trauma and pain, 30 minutes away in the middle of the night to another hospital. I was charged over $2,000 for this visit despite leaving with no answers and an extremely traumatic experience. We lost our dog the very next day. This was one of the worst and most heartbreaking experiences I have ever had with a veterinary hospital. We took our 3-year-old French bulldog. To this emergency vet, it was the worst experience we've ever had. We took our baby in with extreme panting and signs of pain. There was a foul smell coming from her bum, and she would yip When we touched her bottom, we told them all of this, the vet After having her for 2 hours in a back room told us that it was her back that she had slipped a disk or something. She stated that it is just what happens because our baby is a frenchie and French bulldogs are prone to this kind of thing she totally disregarded what we we were telling her the symptoms were we asked if we could be with our baby while we waited for more test since it had already been 2 hours and we wanted to hold her while we waited for blood work to be done, when they brought her to us she was still panting as hard as when we brought her in, we were very concerned and basically told she would be fine once the pain shot kicked in. We held her and rubbed her bottom while we waited and that seemed to calm her down. After another hour we were told to go home and load her with a variety of pain meds and then bring back in a few days for a follow up and sent us out of there. With a diagnosis of, presumed back issues. We never once saw the vet interact with our dog. She was extremely rude to us. And you could tell she just wanted to up the bill as much as she could going.,As far as to tell us, we were going to have to have surgery on our dog and therapy. That would be upwards to $20000. Again, without doing much more than giving her a pain shot, we left took her to her own vet for her follow up and her vet checked her over and by listening to her symptoms and doing a thorough check over her found that it was her tail pocket being irritated and inflammed that was causing her issues with a simple ointment a check-up from her regular vet. She is as healthy and as good good as can be. There were no back issues, the paperwork they gave us from the emergency vet also said that that she came in with the reoccurring back issues when she is never ever had a back issue. I wish I did not have to write this but I feel it is important. I am sure this vet does well with live stock because that seems to be their main focus if you look at the logo. I sure will not trust them with our cats anymore. We have 3 Bengals and one of older boys had a problem on New Years Day. We finally were able to get him seen the day after. I won't go into the long dramatic details because I am sure others know this place has zero sense of urgency. What I will say is that they gave our Bengal Ketamine after making such a big deal about needing all his records and then they never even read them because all are documented with absolutely NO Ketamine. As you can see we were charged for ketamine and why? To run some tests. Basic tests. Ketamine is not safe for Bengals. You would think a vet that prides themselves on having over 20 highly qualified vets on staff would know this. Nope. Plus the cost was over $2000 to tell us absolutely nothing concrete. My 16-year-old dog recently had a seizure while he was eating. I live about 5 minutes away, so I scooped him up and rushed straight to Pilchuck. When I got there, they told me they were too busy to see him and handed me a list of emergency hospitals, all at least a half hour away. Thankfully, he came out of the seizure and was stable enough that I could drive him to another clinic instead. Not long after, he had another seizure that lasted about 7 minutes. I took him to the VCA in Snohomish as an emergency, and they saw him right away. They were kind, the cost was reasonable, and I really felt like my little guy was cared for. They gave me medication and said if the meds did not work and his seizures lasted longer than that, to bring him to Pilchuck. That very night, he had another seizure that went on for about 20 minutes. We tried the medication several times and then rushed him to Pilchuck. By the time we got there, I am pretty sure he had already passed, but I was desperate to save him. When we arrived, they asked if I wanted them to try resuscitation. Of course I said yes. That is why we were there. They charged me over 800 dollars, and within just a couple of minutes came back and told me he was gone. They put us in a room to say goodbye, and while we were in there, we could hear a tech outside laughing and joking around in the hallway. I know emergencies are stressful and people cope differently, but the whole experience felt really cold and transactional, especially in that moment. But really I expected more. read more

I had a sick Bernese Mountain that was sick I called ahead to emergency and they told me there was about a six hour wait and that I would have to stay in the car with her until she could be seen. I asked them if they could call me about a hour before it was her turn and they said no, Now you tell me isn't it a little long to be sitting in a car with a Bernese Mountain Dog when she is sick. I had been going to them for well over 20 years cats, dogs, and horses. The only vet that was decent was Dr. John, Another time I had to bring my Schiperkee in she had bladder cancer. I saw Dr. John the day before who had been treating her for quite a while and he checked her out and did a needle drainage and said she was ok. That night she started crying so I brought her to emergency and the vet that looked at her said there was nothing they could do. When I told them she had just been seen by Dr. John, the ER vet said there was nothing they could do. I asked her if she did the needle aspiration and she said no there was no need for that, that she knew what she was looking at she had a dog with the same thing. With her being in so much pain and with that ER doctor and the fact that there was no cure I has decided to let her go but before she was let go that ER vet came in and asked me if I wanted to go to McDonalds and get her a hamburger for her last meal. Well anyone reading thur this can guess what I said. I no longer use them. I go to Meridian Street Vet in Bellingham DR Jacob Searle he is not corporate prices are good and he is very caring. Our 2 yo yellow lab Sadie collapsed last weekend and was barely responsive. The staff recognized how sick she was immediately and carried our girl to the back. After an overnight stay she was discharged home. Without their intervention, we would have lost our girl. i went to this vet for my kitty, i let them know she is super congested and not doing well , her back legs also stopped working , they put us in a room for almost 2hrs, i went out to ask some questions and the staff ignored me. so i took my cat and left . they did not even help us, all they did was check us in , we called another vet and they said this is a medical emergency. they didn't even take her out of the crate to look at her. they just set us in a isolation room for so long. read more

My 3.5 year old Shiba Inu ate stuff she shouldn't have.....had to have her stomach cut open and thankfully they were able to milk out her intestines. This place works miracles. Expensive miracles, but I'd say the vets, nurses and staff are worth every penny. Our baby Yuki was there off and on for close to a week. We probably met most of the staff. Horrible place !!! I was a vet tech for over 12 years and I've never seen such a horrible place they should be shut down ! First was there and never was told wait time when I checked in an hour and 20 min went by and then o was placed in an exam room and I asked the guy how long of a wait he said he wasn't sure he would get back to me with an update I then waited patiently for 40 min . I then opened the door to see where that guy was in front and lobby was closed lights out no one around so o sat in exam room another 26 min til a lady came in just to ask me the same questions o filled out of form when checked in and told the front desk then I asked her how long as I had to be up at 4 am to work she said she didn't know but a nurse would be in to get my raider boy. I then waited around for another 35 min and no one around I opened both doors to exam room and place was empty as I was waiting for someone to walk by I caught a guy and he said it's a 6-8 hour wait but I'll check and he disappeared. I then waited again for another 15 min and saw a lady and asked her she said your dog is not important right now I have two others that need to be sedated and feel free to call around to be seen else where ! Pilchuck is an exceptional veterinary practice. First, they're organized and have a front desk staff who are kind, understanding and patient. I've been to this facility with friends who have had pets having surgery and other procedures. Today, I had to have my horse put to sleep. Dr Haines and his vet tech were incredible. I and my dogs have been going here for years and I can't say enough good things about the vets, techs and support staff. While primarily seeing Dr McGregor and Dr Krauter (I'd run a full list of names but the review would be long and I might miss some), I've also dealt with the emergency room doctors and staff as well as integrative health so my experience runs the gamut, at least for dogs. I've found everyone caring and willing to help. Yes it does get busy and I'm sure the staff gets stressed, I mean who wouldn't especially in emergency, but I've never found anyone less than professional in anyway. read more

I've tried reaching out for help to this vet a total of 4 times. 3 of the times before was horrible experience just simply with the receptionist on the phone. Unfortunately every time I've called them it's either been to ask for help with my past dog who was suffering from lung cancer. Or an emergency with my newer dog. They ALWAYS turned us away. But I also get it. A lot of people get turned away for emergency calls, and I didn't want to bash on the company as a whole for the terrible reception.... But I'm making this post now because the 4th time I called for help (last Saturday) my golden retriever puppy needed to be seen for a laceration stitch. He sliced his skin open really bad. Pilchuck said we could come in, but that there was a 3-6 hour wait. Whatever I'm fine with that. Once we finally did get seen the staff were amazing. From the reception, to the vet tech to the veterinarian herself. I'm blown away and SO grateful for the compassion and hard work everyone put forth for my boy. Everything I read and heard about this vet was supposed to be amazing. I sent an email today, as it's been a month since I had asked for follow-up contact regarding my previous visit. Mainly it was to see if they were going to even address the situations from my last visit, but also as they sent a reminder for a vaccine that was due. I mainly asked them if they were still drop off (COVID) as well as attached the previously unanswered email chain. I got a very prompt phone call back explaining to me it is not drop off, even though I'm attaching a picture that's said otherwise. I don't mind spending money, it needs to be worth it. As a reminder all of this started well before the pandemic. So it's just continued garbage service... I am also livid that I ended service with my decent but far away prior office, for this place. Our precious canine furbaby who'd been my baby since 2006, I truly don't believe I would have survived to January 2024 without my baby girl, constant companion, better-half, best friend, my happiness-center of laughter & joy. But 1-week short of her 18th birthday it was clear that her quality of life had taken a horrendous turn for the worse. Today I've read the reviews here on Pilchuck Veterinary and I'm heartbroken for those who've shared an extremely different experience than ours which took place a few days ago; my heart goes out to each of you and especially your furbaby's interactions/experiences. I'm a senior (okay, I'm "old") who's been blessed 2 be Mom to many wonderful furbabies and my experiences with Veterinarian practices among several states and all levels of staff have 'run the gamet'. I still firmly believe this should be recognized as a FIFTEEN STAR REVIEW, yes, I said FIFTEEN STARS review for: Veterinarian/Dr Lindsey Murphy, Vet Tech-Sammye (I apologize that I've perhaps mis-spelled this young lady's name, but goodness she was very professional, kind-caring-patient, treated our Baby and the two of us with so much love), and Front Office-Michelle who was my 1st contact person on the phone-when we arrived-through the rough & emotional paperwork and until we left there later that night-WOW she was as well SPECTACULAR!!! Unfortunately, the "5-star" threshold is not an adequate expression for the level of professionalism, caring, patient, loving, and kindness especially at the time of the evening they were there for us Spending this time to revisit the pain and loss of our sweet baby is hard; but I KNOW THEY deserved (+earned) a 15-STAR review One last thing, our Vet in South Snohomish County who we adored from 2013-2023 sold her practice/no longer practicing, I KNOW, (the 'nerve' of her', huh? I AM KIDDING, we hold no grudges - only wonderful memories, and truly "GNORMOUS" LOVE for her and Our VERRRRY FAVORRRRITE Vet Tech-who moved out-of-state in late 2022) but instead we only wish to honor that Beautiful Soul-Spirit-Dedicated Professional she was for us and so many other dedicated families...I think of all the years/hours/missed after-school activities-holiday & weekend emergencies and HER HEART of GOLD for the Furbabies & their families for all those years she cared for; all while she had a growing family of her own who as well 'rolled with the flow' as Mom/Wife was being an Angel to others. And Oh, the Vet Tech (who was part of that team at the Vet practice we were patients of 2013-2023) felt like family as well-she was to us! Any Mother who can relate to an 'average Pediatrician', a 'good Pediatrician', an 'Incredible Pediatrician', or a 'horrendous Pediatrician' in their life; hopefully can as well understand/relate to the IMPORTANCE of an INCREDIBLY LOVING-CARING-EMPATHETIC-PROFESSIONAL VETERINARIAN & their staff at that same level of humanity and caring nature As if COVID wasn't enough for everyone...Veterinrian practices have been enormously challenged just as other 'service-related' businesses have, even if it's now 2024. read more

In response to Dr. M's comment is not only untrue, but inconsiderate and disrespectful. At the time when I had to put my dog down, Dr. Duke was either not interested, but self serving. Perhaps, he was conducting an euthansia study, but it didn't work. I did notice that when he was putting my dog down that I observed a smaller syringe than normal, but I'm not the vet, and I depended on him to put my dog down in a humane way, but he failed to do so. As all of us were in the room, it usually takes less than 5 seconds to put a dog down, and as put my dog was gasping for breath, and was very traumatic for me, and I could not believe what was happening to my dog. Then, Dr. Duke said to his vet tech, "please draw up 5 (five) more cc. of euthansia. When the vet tech returned to the room, my dog had just passed away. My dog had been gasping for breath for at least 1/2 minute until the vet tech returned to the room. This was not a large breed either. To add to this, there was another person in the room with me who can validate the event also. It would probably be best that you check with Dr. Duke or perhaps this is a normal occurrence that happens at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital. As I'm over the age of eighteen years of age, a citizen, a resident of Snohomish County, WA, I would swear to an Affidavit that this did occur and as this was a very sad day for me not to mention traumatic, I hope this not a normal occurrence at Pilchuck Vet's practice for others. On the advice of our regular Vet we took our sick puppy to Pilchuck. They confirmed our worst fears with a diagnosis of Parvovirus. We met with a wonderful young Vet and a very compassionate Tech on our options. We left or puppy in there hands not knowing the outcome. But our hopes were positive. She spent 2 days in there care. To start off, I am not one to leave reviews. The service we received at Pilchuck changes that starting with them. Sunday evening we brought in our 2 year old mini Aussie, Luna, because starting Sunday morning we noticed she was having trouble standing on her own. As the day progressed around 6PM we decided that things seemed to be getting worse and we called pilchuck and they advised us to bring her in, they would check to see if she was stable enough to wait to be treated, or if she needed immediate treatment. We arrived and they immediately took our info, took her back, and decided that she needed instant treatment. Within a 45 minute time-frame from the moment we arrived, they checked us in, took her back, got her hooked up to a heart monitor and took labs, set us up for payment, informed us of everything they planned to watch/treat her with, and we were on our way home while she stayed for the next 24hours (estimate). Overnight we received a wonderful update on her condition and were able to pick her up around 10AM. (Much less time than originally planned for!) From the moment we dropped her off to the moment we picked her up we had absolutely incredible treatment. They were all so kind and loving to Luna, as well as super informative and kind to us! (Since we have never had anything traumatic happen to her before we had a million questions and they were all answered with patience!) I 100% believe my dog received the BEST care possible and I will 100% recommend this clinic to whoever may be looking!!! One last HUGE thank you to anyone who cared for myself and my Luna last night! Words cannot describe how thankful I am to Dr. Murphy, Kate, Emma, Alexis, and the other staff at Pilchuck. I've worked in human hospitals for over two decades, and I felt the care and attention they showed to our 13 year old puggle. We arrived late on a Sunday when she took a sudden dive requiring hospitalization; capacity was limited everywhere in and around Seattle. I know the vet world is feeling similar staffing challenges as we are in human healthcare, and I witnessed how hard Dr. Murphy's team works to help - and am so impressed. When they didn't know what was causing our puggle's illness, they took samples to help us find out. Their attention not only brought our little puggle back to us, but their careful attention diagnosed atypical combination of ailments revealing that our time is left is likely short. Dr. Murphy has called more than once at the end of what I know has already been a 13 hour day, to rely the pathology findings and taking time to help me learn next steps - *after* our puggle was discharged & living it up at home. Their caring is unmatched, and I am forever grateful for the extra time your team made possible to have with our amazing little puggle. I will savor every paw-push asking for treats and every time-telling bark for breakfasts & dinners (almost as much as Zoe does when the food arrives!). Amazing place. Disclaimer: I am writing this while still grieving the loss of our horse. I had a 11 year old mare who was referred to Pilchuck to have Joint Bacteria cleaned out. The mare just came off 21 days of antibiotics and her blood screen came back clean. Pilchuck took ultrasounds and said it was not infection in the joint but a partial tear, and to discontinue the antibiotics. They sent us home, with instructions. We followed those instructions to the T. After a few weeks we noticed her swelling was coming back, she was not putting any weight at all on her RH leg. We called in and they scheduled a vet visit for about a month out. She started to progressively get worse. I insisted she come in, and they couldn't squeeze her in. I called the original vet who diagnosed the infection in the joint. We got her in the next morning, we took more ultrasounds, etc and at that point we had to put her down due to infection in her ligaments and bone! Talking with the vet she was surprised they could not see the fluid and infection in the original ultrasound. We had Pilchuck send over the original ultrasound and she showed me the fluid and infection. Misdiagnoses cost me our young mare, and thousands in vet bills! They maybe the top equine vet in the state, but question them, especially if another vet gave a different diagnoses. read more

vets take an oath to help animals in need. to turn away dying strays and people attempting to hit a cat that had been hit and barely hanging on. to turn that family around and have them hang onto someone elses dying pet to handle is straight up disgusting. you guys already charge more then most so you could have at least put thr damn cat down instead of choosing animals to suffer. read more

They are amazing. We arrived mostly unannounced after speeding over here when our poor dog went into shock. They took us even though they were full, they were all very friendly, professional, and competent. There was a sign and candle that someone was saying goodbye to their pet, and having just lost my other girl last week, I lost it and ugly sobbed in their lobby for 45 min and they acted like this was perfectly normal behavior. Dr. Smith, Lizzie, and the rest of the team at Pilchuck have my complete gratitude! We brought our dog, Buffy in a few weeks ago on a Sunday night due to an eye emergency. Total time spent was about four hours. Lizzie kept us informed of Buffy's status the entire time. They are a devoted and professional team. Dr. Smith quickly diagnosed the issue and provided the medical attention needed to cure Buffy's eye. I urge anyone considering Pilchuck to look past the bad reviews. The Sunday night we arrived was very busy. We got there at 9:30pm and left at 1:30. Four hours may seem like a long time but it went fast. They have other animals they are also tending to.
