Our crew showed up on a Friday evening , dinner time and as expected very crowded we gave our name and went to the bar area and only one seat was available the two ladies insisted that the old man sit so reluctantly I did. We ordered a pitcher of beer and began our wait. After 10 minutes or so we saw a group leave a table at the bar so one of the girls took ownership and we were seated. We liked the diffrent decor of the planes and a partial view of the runway but no planes flying at that time. Our waitress Geena showed up and took our order and dissapeared into the crowd and in a short time returned with a splash (Literally) part of our beer was at our feet she placed the rest on the table and again left to get a towel to clean up. Part of the order showed up and was pleased with the crock of Chile brought to me, very meaty and flavorful and understandably award winning , At this point I'm thinking I will be having a good culinary experience this evening. Next appetizer was the Calamari , it was in a large basket and it looked like a mountain of it ,but once tasted I realized it was mostly breading, I was having to peel off the breading to get to the calamari (more than half was breading). Lastly for my entree I ordered the New York steak and bernaise , presentation was nice but steak was fatty and tough and bernaise on top was just a smear just enough to get you mad.The baked potato needed to be cooked a little bit more but was OK. The girls ordered salmon and avocado salad which I also tasted and it was good but its kind of hard to mess up a salad. The pasta dish was also good. I bought a Groupon for Pilot Pete's because I'd been wanting to try it for awhile now. My husband and I took our two young kids on a Sunday for lunch. The decor was really fun. Our 3 year old loved all the airplanes,heck...we loved all the airplanes. We were seated right away but then ignored for about ten minutes. Finally my husband got the attention of a passing waitress and told her we hadn't been greeted by a server yet and she said that she was actually our waitress and dealing with a Groupon had held her up. Ironic, I suppose, but still not an excuse to ignore patrons. We were finally presented with menus (but no ice water was offered or given...not sure if it was an oversight or if they don't bring out the obligatory ice water) The menu was huge, varied and looked really good. We ordered a half size of the won-ton nachos as an appetizer and for entrees my husband chose the broasted chicken (as it was listed as a Sunday special) and I chose the lobster roll. The kids ordered their go-to chicken tenders from the children's menu and we asked our waitress if the kids' meals could come out with the appetizer as they were getting restless and the broasted chicken takes a little longer to prepare. She said no problem and we anticipated the kids would be happily eating in about ten minutes. After a fairly long wait our massive, and I mean massive, plate of won ton nachos arrived. It was overwhelming, I cannot imagine how big the full size order must be. They were really good with a unique flavor, it was honestly just too big and quite a bit went to waste. We noticed pretty quickly that the kids' meals hadn't arrived so we flagged down our waitress...not an easy task. She said she had put the order in for the kids' meals to come out with the app and wasn't sure "what happened." She went off to check on it as we continued to scale the mountain of won tons smothered in cheese sauce before us. More than fifteen minutes had passed; our drink glasses sat empty, the waitress was M.I.A. and no chicken fingers to speak of. I began to think that this was going to be one of those dining experiences where you like the food...but the service bordered on ridiculous. I really wanted to love the restaurant, so I was curious to see how the rest of the meal would go. Finally the chicken fingers arrived to our hungry little boys and we had to ask for refills as our waitress seemed oblivious to the empty drink glasses witting in front of us. We each had the lemonade, but when our waitress returned with the refills my husband got more lemonade, I got water. I didn't bother saying anything because when we next saw our waitress she had our food and I was starving. We knew the broasted chicken would take nearly 20 minutes to make once ordered, but it had been at least 30 minutes. The waitress also informed us as she served our food that the broasted chicken was no longer a special...and if that was "okay." The chicken was sitting in front of my husband when she mentioned this. If it had not been "okay" did she think that we would send it back and wait another 30 minutes for his plan B to arrive? My husband said the chicken was pretty good (and not surprisingly the portion was gigantic) though the huge potato wedges that came with it were pretty bad. My lobster roll was just average. I know we were in Schaumburg, Illinois and not Bangor, Maine...but still. I prefer chunkier bits of lobster in a lobster roll and this one had very tiny bits of lobster and an overly wet dressing that was more messy than flavorful. The dressing also overwhelmed the delicate lobster flavor I was so looking forward to, so it was sort of disappointing, though not terrible by any means. The coleslaw did not come with my meal as I had asked so my husband sacrificed his. It was the smallest portion of coleslaw I had ever seen, sitting in a cup similar to those on the top of cough medicine...a teeny tiny plastic cough syrup cup of coleslaw my spoon barely fit into. Strange. Again, I didn't bother mentioning it as we had two squirmy kids (and two disappointed adults) who were ready to go. Overall the food was pretty good, the atmosphere and decor were great, the service was pretty bad and the Groupon saved it for me. I honestly would have been annoyed paying $50 for that experience. I love everything about this place. Great Family Friendly restaurant with excellent Food and Service. I love the Lobster Nachos and the Coconut Shrimp are awesome. You get to watch the planes land and take off right outside the window. I only wish they had a Gluten Free Menu so I wont have to eat just appetizers lol However I do know I am in the minority so it still gets 4 stars. Just was there for the first time last Saturday, knew nothing about it but was pleasantly surprised when we walked in the place. Actual airplane seats line the waiting area and the entire place is decorated with planes, great atmosphere! The service was great, food was excellent and very reasonably priced. I give it the 2 stars for the food. I would have given it more, but the service is so bad, I had to take stars away. I've gotten better service at the DMV. The last time there a waiter took 10 mins to get us rolls.....then walked past us with them and gave them to 2 women that just got there. He narrowly dropped hot sauce on my leg (fast reflexes on my part), took his time getting just about everything, then refused to honor our punch cards. We went back to try it again and was told we would have a table in 10 minutes. We told them we would be at the bar. After 40 minutes we just left. Pilot Pete's is a very family friendly spot, if you're looking for a nice sandwich place, with plenty of distractions for kids. The place is loaded with kid friendly stuff from the minute you walk in, with the old airplane seats replacing your standard chairs or benches while you wait to be seated. Once you're sitting down they have all kinds old airplanes hanging from the ceiling. The lobster nachos are a great appetizer, and most of the menu items are solid. With the runway literally right next to you, this is a great place to try, if you're looking for something different than your Fridays or Chilis type. read more

My wife and I were there at lunch time, very busy, waited over half an hour for two sandwiches. My sandwich called Prime Rib LT, supposed to be sliced prime rib with lettuce, tomato, and bacon. Prime Rib dried out on the grill, bacon overcooked, two small slices of tomato, and a little shredded lettuce, all on toast. My wife's sandwich, while not great, was a little better. Waitress was apologetic - not her fault. I was there a bit back for a company holiday celebration. We had to sit in different tables to accommodate all of us. The food was just ok.

We were anticipating a unique evening; based upon the theme and location. We luckily scored a table in the overcrowded and noisy bar area. But it was a friday night, no big surprise there. We decided on the paper bag calamari-it was heavily coated with what should have been coating for chicken tenders instead. the coating could have/should have been a more lightly breaded item. I ordered the avocado&salmon salad, salmon was good. My lover ordered the NY steak with bernaise sauce. Not enough of bernaise sauce, they could have given more on the side. Meat was tough (the restaurants), but this was no Mortons-but we expected that. My sidekick ordered the dinner special of chicken and brocolli-it was tasty, but nothing special. On Fridays they have a great all you can eat fish fry and you dont have to look for a waitress to beg for more. They have great service! Lets get back to the fish fry. This is probably one of the best places to get amazing food with great service and a unique atmosphere! No matter how many times I have been here the food is always on point my favorite dishes has to be the pot roast stroganoff, chicken fingers and don't let me get started on their fish fry it's so good and my top choice for dessert is the key lime pie no one does it better! I really can't remember the waitress name but we sat by the windows in a booth by their private event room ... the waitress was so great she was super attentive and friendly I really wish I could remember her name ! We also met the manager on duty and she was also a pleasure and took the time to make sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our meal ! I always ask to sit by the windows cause no matter what time of year it is with the planes coming in or like tonight with all the snow it makes for a great view !! Let me first start out by saying I had heard by others who occasionally eat here have really never uttered a peep on bad food when asked about the place and raved how cool it was watching the planes coming and going especially if you had kids with you. Secondly, I must say those people who told me they occasionally had eaten here with out complaints of (BAD FOOD & SERVICE) need to keep off the liquor or go get their heads examined. My very own personal opinion for PILOTE PETE'S RESTRAUNT & BAR is a capitol F with two minuses. After experiencing such a poorly run establishment on a EASTER BRUNCH and while simultaneously having my wallet $$$ and taste bud's high jacked due to the low quality food, inconsistency to poor cooking and most defiantly over charged for the experience. My recommendation for anybody thinking about eating here for a future EASTER BRUNCH is to save their money and taste buds for and Easter Brunch Else where. read more

A night out with family, should be great, right? Not so much. Called weeks ahead and was told we could not reserve a spot, however, we could call an hour ahead for seating. Did so at 4:30pm; confusion ensued as my cousin explained how she had talked with the manager Brittany who suggested the call ahead. Other cousins arrived at 5:00 and were given the pager. Full party there at 5:30. Group after group arrives and are seated before us. Repeated questioning results in no movement for us. Seated at 6:45pm - in case you haven't done the math that's 2 hours and 15 min after the initial call. Our second time we've visited this place. Love the ambiance! It's very cozy in there especially for having a bar and with the dimmed lights. Great view of the Schaumburg Airport. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE their Christmas Decorations!! Especially their Christmas Tree!! So big & beautiful! Their staff is VERY FRIENDLY & REALLY ATTENTIVE!! We ventured out on this snowy Sun. afternoon to celebrate birthdays and Easter with our family. Despite not being able to watch the planes coming and going, we had a wonderful time. YES! Amazing wings! We came here wanting to check it out especially with the amazing savings from groupon. 30.00 for a 17.00 groupon. The landshark was only 4.50 on this Friday night. I had the jerk wings and chose the hot flavor. It's two wings in one so if you think you will get 10 small wings then you are wrong. I think of it like 20 wings. My girlfriend had the meatloaf and it was great too. At first I was thinking this was one of those small airport hole in the wall restaurants, but it was nowhere near it. Consider it a Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville type of restaurant. No reservations when I called for one on a Friday night. And it gets packed. So expect a wait; however check the bar area as they might have open tables there. So check there before u ask a waitress or hostess for tables. Parking is good. 5 stars and a half. Moderate price. Pilot Pete's menu reminds me of a typical chain restaurant that is not all that different than something like a Fridays. What makes this restaurant unique is its nice elevated view of the Schaumburg airport. Located in the 2nd floor in a corner spot in the terminal it offers a nice view of the tarmac and the airport operations. A good place to take kids but keep in mind the food will be just average. read more
