My friend and I came here for dinner last night. It has a very calming and classy atmosphere. They have a pretty extensive drink menu, which includes beer, cocktails, and wine. I love the variety of their food menu! They have steak, salmon, chicken, pork, shrimp, duck, lamb, pasta, and some really nice appetizers. We ordered the charcuterie board and thought it was the perfect size for the two of us. Not many places offer duck, so I had to order it for dinner! The duck leg comes with carrots and duck fat roasted potatoes. It was incredibly delicious and tender. The flavor of the sauce was rich and paired great with the carrots and potatoes. Only thing is I did think some of the prices were a bit high compared to some other places I've been that serve similar quality food. Our waiter was nice and provided good service overall! I think this would be a cute spot for a date night. read more

Just visited and again, great food, terrible service (they simply ignored our table for 20m, seated new guests, then ignored them too, LOL...) I ordered pasta -- since it was a less-overpriced option -- alongside the cut corner from a plastic bag that was included with it (no joke: found on my last bite, ugh). It was likely from a bag of pre-cooked chicken or a pasta sauce pouch, similar to that of a distributor such as Sysco, which sells food products to restaurants. So yeah, THAT was a wonderful discovery. In summation, same story, different day... 1913 has amazing cocktails that are actually underpriced, great food (if you don't find plastic in it) and a nice atmosphere. However, pray you get good service or any service at all! read more

Stoped in here because it was close by where we had dropped the kids off so only had about 60 min. That was long enough to make me want to make the 34 min drive back for a full dinner soon. Great bar and bartender - great vibe - smelled amazing - and the top 3 lobster bisque's I have ever had...(and if you knew how many i have had that would be very impressive!) I heard about this place on a Podcast so I decided to give it a try for our Anniversary. We had reservations but it probably was not needed for a weeknight. We were seated immediately and greated by Marc our server who was amazing. They have an extensive wine and bourbon list as well as a variety of crafted cocktails. I had a Buffalo Trace Old Fashion and my wife had a Pimms Cup. Both were very good . Since my wife is Gluten Free,they have a large selection of items to choose from . Started with the Burrata appetizer and an order of baked oysters. Delicious! For our main entrees we had the Shells on Shells pasta which was loaded with seafood but my wife was disappointed that the pasta was not shell pasta. I had the Shrimp Bruschetta which was loaded with shrimp and tasted amazing. Portions are huge but they were so good we had no leftovers .lol. For our Anniversary they surprised us with some gelato and I had to try their famous Bourbon Pecan Pie. Very good but I brought half of it home. We ended the night with an Expresso Martini. Housed in a historic building built in 1913 on a former dairy farm, this restaurant provided a solid menu selection and warm ambiance we were looking for to celebrate our anniversary. My husband heard about it on a podcast that he regularly listens to and he made a reservation. We were seated promptly and Marc our server was attentive and fun. He told us that the chef had a gluten allergy and that is why there are so many gf options on their menu which was awesome for me. There was a nice mix of couples, ladies groups and families dining out that night and the restaurant has an extensive bourbon and wine list. You can sit outside under colorful umbrella tables, in the bar area or in the main dining room. Be sure to check out the grouping of historic black and white photos across from the restrooms. We sat inside because rain was coming. The old wooden floors and exposed brick gave the space historic warm charm. I started with an ice cold Pims cup which was refreshing and we shared the Burrata appetizer. The depth of flavor was incredible. My husband also enjoyed the baked oysters which sadly couldn't be made gluten free but I wouldn't have had room for them since I went with Shells and Shells for my entree. It was a very generous portion of tender seafood and pasta but the broth was the star having an incredibly delicious taste of the sea. We received a complementary serving of salted caramel gelato for our anniversary and my husband had to try the bourbon pecan pie which he said was delicious. We had a reservation for Saturday evening at 5pm- the place filled up quickly within the hour full of regular standing reservations. I could understand why! The food was delicious and so fresh. You could taste the quality in each bite. We started with the Burrata, which we ran through the little crostinis that came with the appetizer. We did not even have to ask our waiter, he was already prepared and brought us another plate of crostinis so no food was wasted! I had the French onion soup and apple & goat cheese salad. My friend got the chicken Madeira. We both loved our meals and enjoyed every bite! The soup was flavorful, but also very unique. I find sometimes with French onion soup it's just a straight onion flavor. However, this had a more mature flavor and gave more beyond one taste. You could taste the broth, which I believe was beef based, but also the onion and herbs from the croutons. It's hard to find a good French onion soup- this one will not disappoint! The salad was delicious- light and flavorful. I appreciated the large chunks of goat cheese and how much there was. The salad was not simply lettuce with a pinch of cheese. It had substantial amounts of each ingredient to ensure you don't eat a forkful of lettuce. My friend enjoyed her meal. The chicken was moist and the cream sauce was light but cozy. I tried a noodle and it was extremely fresh, almost as if it was handmade. I couldn't be more impressed with the quality of the food! The interior was cozy and perfect for dinner. The only thing I will say is if you are seated near the window, maybe bring a light jacket. I was a little chilly. However, there isn't much I can complaint about. Also, if you are someone who likes quick meals in and out- this may not be the place for you. It is relaxed and allows time for good conversation and to really enjoy your experience without a rush. I absolutely love this place and I crave their grilled Caesar salad almost daily. It's so unique... I've never had anything like it. The grill flavor on the wedge of lettuce is superb and their dressing must be homemade... to die for!!! The beef carpaccio is also one of my favorites. Burrata and oysters were also wonderful. The only thing I don't like is that they're closed Sundays and Mondays which inevitably is always when my 1913 cravings strike! read more

I am fairly new to Roselle, and found this place as I was looking for a few spots that I can call home (you know, be a regular)! I love to walk into a joint, and the bartender asks if I want the usual, and after my brief "yes" response, I get the drink exactly to my stringent specifications! I actually have to give a shout-out to "Big Ben", an exceptional bartender who knows his craft well and has exceptional people skills. We found a new favorite restaurant during Northwest Restaurant Week. 1913 Restaurant & Wine Bar is amazing! Everything from the 100+ year old building with its vintage wood floors and brick walls, to its fantastic food service staff (shout out to Marc), to the spectacular culinary excellence. We ordered off the special multi course menu and everything was delicious! The good news is that the menu offerings were on their everyday menu; that means we're going back as often as possible! Very confused by the reviews on this place. Not only is it overpriced but the food is extremely mediocre. You can go to Italian pizza kitchen and get treated the same with the same quality of food for half the price. The tables are wood tables but prices are set for linen tables. I ordered the shells on shells and the lack of seafood alone with flavor was disappointing. I compare this to fire and wine and it's not even comparable, which it should be price wise. My fiancé had the Philly wagyu sandwich and his fries didn't even come with a ketchup or Aioli. We came for our anniversary and we're not treated specially whatsoever. Not so much as a free dessert. I live in Roselle and honestly will never return. read more

Post-Pandemic, mask-less dinners out, whooo!!! Went here because 8K said they wouldn't let us dine on the patio with my friend's adorable new 12lb Labradoodle... really? Spotting some tables further down, we shrugged and wandered down the street... and found this place. Yeah, places that diss dogs outside? Boo, no wonder there were only 2 people on your patio. 1913 was packed, and even provided a SS water bowl to let Ollie get a drink under our table. They have these on standby folks. Wow such GOOD FOOD. Tyler steered us well, I loved my order. My thanks good sir. Note: I'm not usually a fan of places with baseline entree prices at $25+ but heck, my greens with apple slices salad and 6oz salmon was amazing. Forgetting to ask for the dressing on the side, it was a tad over-doused, but delicious and added the perfect kick to the seared, otherwise fresh, unseasoned salmon. Perfect finish? I tried 1913 for the first time tonight and left feeling the restaurant was one step away from a great date night spot. Overall the restaurant has a rustic charm to it and takes in the classic italian vibe. For being upscale, I was surprised no cocktail menu was offered to our table to browse. I decided on an Old Fashioned after seeing the whiskey list offered; the drink definitely needed a good stir as all the simple syrup was at the bottom I later found out and the drink was filled with crushed ice rather then one large cube/sphere. Our waiter did check in often of how we were doing, explained the specials, and asked if we had questions. We both ordered the Campanelle pasta which he said was the most ordered pasta dish. It was pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken included in the dish as it seemed to be an equal part to pasta. The price seemed rather high for the dish but not outlandish. The entire time we spent there, it never got too loud, there was more then enough parking in the front, and reservations were easy to make. Would love to see a couple aspect elevated but overall, nice date spot to keep in mind for the Roselle area. read more

Service was great, the place is comfortable and attractive. The food....needs some work. The oysters had no oyster liquor. They did not taste of the sea. Very dry. I ate two out of six and just didn't feel comfortable eating the rest. Were they shucked hours before? I didn't get sick thank goodness. But they were the grossest oysters I've had in a while. French Onion soup was too sweet. I think from balsamic vinegar. You don't need that in FOS, too bougie. Steak was gristly, somewhat undercooked. Frites seemed tired and not freshly made. Salad with chicken was meh. Too sweet. Chef has a heavy hand with sugar. Nice place with great service. Food needs a lot of dialing in. read more

Had the chance to try this wonderful restaurant when visiting the Chicagoland area. The Manager greeted you at the door with a smile and welcome and we were seated. Our waitress was efficient but was a little on the grumpy side. The food was outstanding .... The beverages were tasty. I was lucky enough to have a coworker invite me to dinner with he and a friend of his. The first impression was very inviting. The reuse of a classic building was a great idea. The food was outstanding. I had the Salmon with Brussel sprouts, baby potatoes and squash. My co worker had the night special of Wagyu strip steak and garlic mashed potatoes. He was kind enough to share and it was awesome. Our third member had the Shells and Shells with pasta. She enjoyed it and took the leftovers home. Besides the ambience and the food, the service was the best I have seen. They pay attention to your table and keep it picked up and clean. I noticed the owner restocking glasses and scouting the area for anything that might need attention, thus allowing his wait staff to concentrate on their customers. Great job. When I come back for work, I'm going to see if my schedule will allow me the opportunity to try some of their other entrees. read more

Went for an early dinner on a Saturday. We had the Charcuterie board and fried olives. I could eat my weight in those olives. There specialty cocktails are creative and tasty. We visited 1913 for the 2nd time bringing our friends with us this time. Even though this restaurant is quite a distance from our home, we were wanting to experience it again. I called to see what their corkage fee was and was told the owner doesn't allow patrons to bring their own wine. Such a shame as Davis Estates wine is not sold anywhere except to its club members. Even though this restaurant has an extensive bar menu, they don't have Davis. We actually were coming back specifically for their amazing bourbons. My husband and his friend are huge bourbon lovers. They loved trying different bourbons which are harder to find. We also ordered a bottle of wine. S'okay not stellar. We had a delightful and attentive server. Kim took great care of us and was very engaging. She was great! We started with the beef carpaccio and oysters. Both were good, but the carpaccio was not very plentiful to share. The ladies had the halibut special and I was able to customize my sides. The halibut was perfectly cooked but overpriced at $49. I loved the glazed carrots. Both men had the short rib. They enjoyed their meals and said the meat was tender and flavorful. For dessert we had the zeppoles and the bourbon pecan pie. I can't have nuts so I couldn't eat the pie, but the others said it was decadent and sinful. The zeppoles were amazing and unlike the carpaccio, plentiful. So delish and they came with chocolate and caramel. Omg!! I wish 1913 was closer to home. We'd definitely be frequenting it more often. read more

We're 50/50 if we want to come back. I'm the type of person who likes to look at menus on the website before we go to a restaurant, so I already knew what glass of wine and entree i wanted. When we were seated and reviewing the menus I noticed the entree wasnt listed and that wine was only available by the bottle. When I mentioned it to our waiter, he accused me of not looking at their menu but possibly a different menu online as there's so many out there. No, I went to 1913's actual website. We ordered 2 baked oysters to start with and maybe we're spoiled with Shaw's and Morton's but the breadcrumb ratio to an actual oyster was too much. It was all breadcrumbs. Our meals came and I ordered the Shells and Shells and my husband ordered the rigatoni. Both were delicious. We ordered the chocolate bourbon pecan pie for dessert and that was to die for. However, towards the end, our waiter literally just dropped the check off at the table and goes "here you go, bye" and walks on. Didnt even pause, didnt ask if we needed anything else. It was like he was trying to get rid of us. The bus boy was a lot more friendlier than our server. Also, we were seated next to the window and the whole time I could see a spiderweb in the corner by the window with a spider in it. It was just a little bit of a turn off to see while eating. Maybe if we had a different sever our experience would be different, but we wont be hurrying back to give it another chance. read more

This is what we ordered : To drink: Sauvignon Blanc koha '21 too sweet 2/5 Donnafugata sur sur grillo '19 very good 4/5 Weller full proof 4/5 High west midwinters night dram 4/5 Cake Bread- best wine of the night 5/5 Eight years in the desert -lacked flavor and was very light and one note 2/5 To start: Escargot & Steak tartare. Escargot was edible but nothing to rave about. The steak tartare was just a deconstructed burger. It was served with bits of onion, tomato and dijon sauce. It was also too much for 2 people. Entrees: Soup of the day - Cream of Asparagus and Leek. This soup was awful and inedible. It was gritty and had an over powering sour taste like the cream had gone bad. Aside from sour it was flavorless. Duck confit- tasted really off. The sauce was too sweet and had a metallic flavor. Carrots and potatoes were pretty undercooked. Seared scallops- $39 for 3 unseared scallops on a bed of sad arugula and meh romesco sauce. This dish was bad. At the end of the meal we were just going to leave but I decided to look at the dessert menu. I ended up asking the waiter if there was anything he would recommend. He said he would go see if the pecan pie was made fresh today. When he came back he didn't say if it was or wasn't made fresh, he just said we should get it. Long story short, the pie was very sweet and didn't seem to be "made fresh". The best part of it was the ice cream they served on top. Overall this place got 2 stars based on the drink selection, ambiance and partially the service. The man clearing the plates from the table was so friendly and attentive that he really stood out to us. read more
