Pinch Loco's ice cream is amazing and high quality- creamy, not icy, and sweet, but not syrupy. I've had their ice cream on two separate occasions- their watermelon, cotton candy, and salty caramel truffle. I was skeptical upon trying the cotton candy flavor, since I thought it would just be (an almost) flavorless sugar syrup. I wasn't quite sure how it would be great, but I was so wrong. I highly recommend the flavor. It tastes distinctly like cotton candy, while being more creamy, smooth, and less sweet. Also, the pink and blue swirls are beautiful to look at. I got the watermelon flavor a while back because I thought it would be more refreshing, and it was! It had a more granular texture and was more similar to a flavored syrup than the ice creams, but was great nonetheless. It wasn't icy, despite being less creamy. The third flavor I briefly tried is the salty caramel truffle. This is also a great, creamy, well balanced flavor! You can't go wrong with any of these flavors. One side note though, it's difficult to find an updated menu of flavors online. This place is delicious! They have a lot of tasty flavors that I haven't seen before. I tasted the tequila flavor, my husband tried the honey roasted peanut butter flavor. There is some seating inside, although it would be nice to get your ice cream and eat it while walking around on Ninth Street on a warm summer evening. The parking is limited to Ninth Street, like any other business in the area. I ended up getting two scoops of ice cream (although the Mangonada was calling my name!) in cappuccino crunch and Tiger Tail. They were so good! You'll find chunks of the fruit at the bottom of the popsicle. It's so refreshing and just the right enough sweetness after a hearty meal. There was a long time of people at night on a weekend when I visited in September 2020. From my experience, customers are respectful of waiting outdoors if there are more than two groups of customers indoors. Street parking is available all around the block. read more

Service: Friendly and fast service. They even had a discount for Duke students, which was much appreciated! Food: We ordered the mangonada and churro sundae. While the mangonada looked interesting, it unfortunately wasn't for us. The chili flakes were a bit much, and though the mix of sweet/spicy/savory seemed to be appealing, we felt that the combination did not land. The mangonada had an overtly salty and unnaturally tangy flavor that we haphazardly ate. On a much more positive note, we loved the churro sundae! It was a great level of refreshing, cinnamon-sweet goodness, despite the churros being a bit stale. Overall: We gave it a 3 just for this experience due to our (most likely incompatible) choice of the mangonada, but we did really enjoy the churro sundae! Everything was absolutely delicious, well priced and the inside was decorated really cute There is an insta-worthy wall for taking pictures of your ice cream! All the staff was kind, helpful and welcoming. Parking is easy to find. There's a lot right across the street or street parking on 9th street. I think the Mexican chocolate popsicle was my favorite. Finally got a chance to stop by here in July when I was in town. Staff was super nice, and masks were required and worn by staff inside - and they limited the people in the store at any one time. Both floats were delicious, but the Tamarind was the winner. They seem to have at least a dozen ice cream flavors, as well as waffles, cupcakes, flan, and ice cream cakes. The location off of 9th Street (on a side street across from Bruegger's) is great, but like most establishments in this area, parking can be tricky. "Ice cream, popsicles, shakes, and smoothies, by Cosmic Cantina off Ninth Street in Durham" We were excited to try this new venue, ideally situated right next to Cosmic Cantina. The setting was great-- old building space but bright and airy inside with a decent amount of seating. The staff were EXTREMELY welcoming, inviting us in, asking if we'd been here before, offering samples of the ice cream, etc. They have both water-based and milk-based popsicles, like La Monarcha or Locopops, each for $2.50 (see menu and options photos). Their selection was slightly broader than Locopops (also having a few unusual options like "spicy pineapple") but not as broad as La Monarcha's. My friends tried both the ice cream ("tiger tail" variety) and a popsicle. I had a strawberry banana smoothie with yogurt. The ice cream and popsicles were EXCELLENT-- my friends raved about them, and the bite I tried was also great. The smoothie was pretty good-- not as "smooth" as I might have prepared but still tasty-- and it came with a few frozen strawberries inside "speared" on a toothpick. Overall, definitely would say I'm a fan and would happily go back here for dessert after getting a Ninth Street meal. Swung by on a saturday night to grab a scoop with a friend and was very impressed! Parking is a little difficult since it's located off of a busy street but there is street parking nearby. We walked in and the employee was super friendly and went out of his way to greet us, offer us samples, and thank us as we left. The atmosphere of the place is great - there are many unique decorations up and around and plenty of tables. The tables do tend to run on the larger side though so be prepared to share if busy. I tasted the Kahlua (which was delicious) before I settled on the cappuccino crunch. There were definitely some unique flavors I would eventually love to try, such as tequila! They do use real alcohol though so they require you to be over 21 for those flavors. The scoop was pretty generous for a single scoop and the price was very reasonable.
