I recommend steering away from this place and regret I went to this place as long as I did. Be proactive and find a different office. Here's why: 1. I had a bad experience with this process: (1) My tooth chipped and needed a new crown (2) Appoline does a crown here (3) bad pains a couple of weeks later (4) did a root canal at a different endodontist office (5) the endodontist office discovers a gap in the new crown (6) Appoline remakes crown (7) I switch to a different dentist office (too much pain all throughout), they find the second one Appoline did also has a gap and I need to redo it, including a possible root canal 2. the above experience was made worse by the fact the temporary crown came off within 1-2 days whenever I had them. I was told that the temp crown coming off was expected for the position of the tooth and would be charged the next time I had to come in to get it back in. I'm going through the same process with another office on the same tooth and have not had the issue of the crown coming off. 3. Dental assistant and Dentist would squabble over me during procedures. 4. The front desk was not professional. The standard care at this place is not good. There are many other dental offices that take your insurance and have more affordable prices. read more

Absolutely do NOT go to Apolline dental for any reason. I went to Apolline dental 2 months ago for 4 fillings and impressions for a crown following a root canal. The Dr. Virginia Perez-Torrebela was not only unprofessional and rude but almost refused to numb me for my filings. Upon taking my impressions she instructed the receptionist to order a specific crown without consulting me first. I had to get up and let the receptionist know that was not the crown I was hoping to get. The entire procedure took so long I was only able to get two fillings and they told me to come back in 2 weeks when the crown was done to get the other 2 fillings done. Fast forward 1 month I hear nothing from the Apolline. Upon calling them to ask for an update they told me my insurance was denying the claim. I provided them with the info to my secondary provider and they told me they would open a claim with them. Fast forward another month (now two months with a temporary crown) the claim has still not been processed. I am now told that I owe additional money for the crown but when asked to email the amount and details they never email me. I call back two days in a row, once 10x in a row because nobody answered my calls and I was told there was a system issue and the email couldn't go through. Today, as I call someone on the other end of the phone still cannot tell me what I owe but then tells me the receptionist I was speaking to me has been LYING this entire time (his words btw). He tells me this is on her and there's nothing they can do. Apolline has demonstrated that they cannot properly care for patients health as they're dentists mistreat patients and receptionists lie to them. read more

The whole experience there was great. I had been without a dentist since moving to DC, and when I called up the office, I was able to get a confirmation that they accepted my insurance and an appointment right away. Upon arriving, Sunny was very friendly and walked me through the forms, as I had never had dental insurance before my current job, and I was taken quickly. Dr. Woo was thorough and answered all my questions. Her assistant (whose name escapes me!) was also very friendly and we had a nice conversation while I waited in the room for the doctor. I was in and out in a half hour, and was finally able to schedule a treatment for my gum recession after suffering for years because my last dentist told me I would need skin grafts (!!!) and I was scared to address it again. All in all, I recommend! Plus, their usual dentist goodie bag when you leave is a step above any other dentist I've been to! read more

Overall, Dr. Woo is a decent dentist. She's personable and competent. However, the front desk manager, Sunni, and billing practices are unacceptable. On more than one occasion, additional fees were added into my service: the first incident happened when I had chipped filling repair. I was told one price, and then was charged another. Then, a week later, I returned to adjust the filling because after I experienced a lot of pain when I didn't otherwise have any. When I asked about the additional tacted on fees, I was met with great hostility. I am a reasonable person. I don't mind paying for services rendered. However, my second visit was because something was not done correctly the first time, so I'm being asked to pay to fix mistakes, plus additional fees. All of this is exeburated by Sunni at the front desk. When I asked about the fees, I was greeted with anger and aggression. The manner in which she talks and relays information is unacceptable. She is hostile, rude, and aggressive. It's challenging enough going to the dentist. It's even worse feeling like you're being nickeled-and-dimed and it sinks to know that asking simple questions about your bill, you'd be met with hostility and rudeness. The front desk and billing is such an important part of an individual's experience. Getting it right is so important. When it goes, as in this case, it's terrible. read more

I have to give this place one star because we never even got to see the doctor. The front desk lady Sunny is crazy and unprofessional. We had our first appointment to get braces canceled about two hours before the appointment because the case wasn't ready (so she said). When I called back she said that they were waiting for the Invisalign when we didn't want that option. We were going to do regular braces. The appointment was rescheduled for a month later and there was no confirmation call the day before and when we showed up she told us our appointment was canceled. Not only that, she said I need to text her threatening to take our business elsewhere so she could show it to the doctor to get a sooner appointment to reschedule the appointment AGAIN. For some reason she had to text the doctor to find a new appointment time. She kept saying it's not her fault and that she loved us? Crazy train! Suffice it to say we are going elsewhere. You should too. This woman is literally killing this doctor's practice. read more

Dr. Woo is fantastic and made me feel very comfortable during my visit. I would love to return, but today a few months later the receptionist called me asking for the "$500" I owe the office. No hi, no greeting, just "I'm calling in regards to the $500 you owe the office." A charge I knew nothing about because before I left the office I was told anything my insurance wouldn't cover would be billed to me. I never got a bill or phone call till today. She demanded I give her my credit card number. When she initiated the phone call the way she did I was confused and she responded with "oh! So the retainer isn't in your mouth right now!?" I felt truly disgusted and disrespected. No way I'd return. Upset I really thought I'd keep Dr. Woo as my dentist. Once this is all clear I plan on staying away. read more

Overcharged me on 3 counts when I showed up as a new patient for regular cleaning, then the office manager shouted at me when I pointed one of them out, and over the next 1.5 months, got 2 overcharges refunded, but not the 3rd one. Date of visit: Jan 3 I went for a regular cleanup. After basic evaluation and X-ray, the dentist came and then the office manager started reading from the menu (cheapos!) while I'm on the dentist's chair (at an odd angle) and the dentist said things like "oh, it's so bad, your teeth...oh god, blah blah blah") and decided to do a debridement, which they started, but within 5-10 minutes, they said "you are too sensitive, let's leave it", then suggested some advanced cleaning up process that I should opt for in a subsequent visit that would cost me even more, and ended the appointment (this point is important because they additionally charged me for periodontal evaluation on the same day - that violates ADA guidelines). So first, if I'm not at all sensitive, what would be the need for debridement? Second, if debridement was needed, why wasnt it completed? I didnt withdraw consent! So finally, they cheated me by reporting that they did the debridement which typically takes ~30-45 minutes and for periodontal evaluation which should happen in subsequent visit. The charge for debridement was not refunded as they documented doing the full debridement process - how unprofessional and unethical of them. In addition, they miscalculated and refunded $14 after a week and blamed my insurance, whereas the insurance had a clear chart (that's how I caught them), and when I called, the office manager shouted like crazy at me. Second, ADA guidelines state (I have it in the letter from Cigna, dated Jan 31st, I can post it online should the clinic refute it) that debridement is to be used only when an evaluation cannot be performed due to excess calculus, but they also charged me out of pocket expense for evaluation ($33), I got it back from Cigna in roughly 1.5 months. So finally, I was refunded $47 (33+14), but not the $65 that they charged for their 5-minute (probably world's fastest!) debridement (Average is 30-45 minutes). Dr. Woo and her office manager play the "bad cop-good cop" role pretty well :) You've been warned! read more

I stepped into Dr. Woos office in the basement of a very old building. I almost didn't notice where her front door was. The entire office is very small but operating room had sufficient space. My experience reclined with Doctor Woo wasn't memorable, I don't say that as a good or bad thing, but her staff is very chairside assistant was a terrible experience, she short cut most of the procedures post op. After I finished my appointment and headed to the front desk to pay the and she told me that I was covered by my ins that doesn't require any co pay. My next appointment I was blindsided but a rude encounter of the front desk when she demanded I pay 90 dollars as a overdue balance before I sat down. I asked for my bill and asked why I was charged and she made me wait 45 min to receive the statement. Where I found a bunch of changes and procedures that didn't happen. I left immediately after that. Staff is terrible, and is looking to blindside you with charges and make you work to make their job easier. read more

I don't understand why this lady still has a job. I questioned her about charges and she became an aggressive, mentally disturbed nasty person like someone with multiple personalities. We spent a large sum of money here for dentures that broke over and over again and as patients we received the worse treatment that I have ever witnessed in my life in a doctor's office from the front desk. Dr. Woo is a competent dentist. However as a former client wrote, there are issues with billing . If the office accepts a certain insurance, it has to abide by the rules instead of making up rules as they please. In my case, I paid my balance for a crown. I called my insurance and who assured that I did not need to pay any more. Yesterday, Sunny called and told me that I needed to pay the balance on the post (part of the crown). Again, I talked to a representative from my insurance company who assured me that the insurance and the patient pay for the crown as a whole. I like Dr. Woo and it is walking distance from my apartment but dealing with the front office is forcing me to go to a different dental facility. read more

I used to visit a dentist in Foxhall. I would say he was always looking for something to do. Probably needed to make payments on the Porsche out back. I have been visiting Apolline for a year. With Dr. Woo I get good care. They are not pushy about unneeded procedures. The staff has been fantastic with getting approvals from my dental insurance for what I do need. No complaints. read more
