I have been to Pine Grove 10 or 12 times in the past 5 years. It is a neat little alternative to the other breakfast places in Western Loudoun and I have recommended to friends in the past. Not after today. Noticed right away that the prices went up and rival the most expensive (and worst) place in Purcellville. Three of us waited quite a while for food after ordering. When the food arrived, we looked at each other and all kind of said "Is this it?" Undersized portions is a generous description. Better order 2 glasses of milk if you want one full one and shouldn't the sausage gravy cover the biscuit? Passable tasting, but reminded me of school cafeteria. Thanks to yelp I'd spotted this place ahead of time for when we were in the area and we were pleasantly surprised at the speedy service and good (plain, nothing gourmet!) food. We had chicken salad sandwich, potato soup, fish and chips, with sides (small!) of mac n cheese, apple sauce, green beans, and some rhubarb pie (well made!) and coffees and teas. The food was hot and cooked the way you find things in good cafeterias. Three of us ate for about $15 each (including tax). This place is tucked away on a mountain side road off Rte 7 West from Leesburg, in a hamlet with a pretty church and lots of trees. On the negative side was the rotten/lost board at the bottom of the wheelchair ramp which was still usable but might cause difficulty for some. Also, I'm never enamored of staff hanging about smoking outside where I can see them, along with overflowing ashtrays of butts on the exterior tables, as it makes me wonder what other unhealthiness or sloppiness is going on behind the scenes. Basically, this is a good cafe that's a little ragged around the edges, but a great country experience, nevertheless. Be aware they don't take credit cards so bring your cash! read more

Off the main drag is this wonderfully peaceful and homey little restaurant. Food is always homemade and yummy. Since moving to the area and only trying the place a few times, we are now regulars. We have even run into Grandma in the local grocery store. She makes the best desserts and those in my family that like coconut Rave about her coconut creme' pie, I love the Black Magic cake myself. They have daily specials that are priced to try and just wait until there is the "Seafood Platter special". A must try, hikers, climbers, weekend travelers or those of us who are locals. When you reach Pine Grove, you've officially exited the DC area proper and have entered the "land between the coasts". Meaning that Pine Grove is country, unabashedly, both in terms of the people and the food. The latter is excellent, the specials being perhaps more complex on certain days of the week than one might expect. I enjoyed some hearty buckwheat pancakes with my eggs and corned beef hash. This is a local meeting spot and you'll overhear all sorts of interesting conversations if you linger. Everyone is friendly, the staff is attentive and, if you're in the area for a hike (the App trail is within a rock's throw), you'll find an excellent meal at the Pine Grove. read more

Standard greasy spoon fare. Very friendly service, but the food was mediocre and the portions were modest for the prices. I would have given more stars if the food had been better or the prices lower. Also, I found it odd that the burgers didn't come with lettuce and tomato automatically; c'mon, for $8.50, fix a proper burger without me having to ask for it. You are about to read a review on one of the best spots to get real home cooking anywhere within 50 Miles of Winchester Virginia. I have been coming here for a number of years now and have never ever had reason to complain. First of all it is impeccably clean. Even though it doesn't look like a spot Trump would put his name on from the outside when you get inside you feel like you are at home. There is a very nice separate room off the main dining area where there is a table that sits about 20 people so if you want to bring your entire large family or a large group of friends call ahead of time to enjoy it. The owner will call in additional help to offer quick service to a large group otherwise you may have to deal with just one or two servers if you walk in with a large group for this table. The bathrooms are spotless and clean smelling and remind you of one you would see in someones own home. There are always specials but the one thing I love so much is being able to call Phyllis (the owner) a day in advance and make a special meal request and have it prepared and served family style for your group. Last night we took our family and a friend. I had given Phyllis a weeks notice. At my request she prepared old home style fried chicken. These chickens were locally farm raised organically. She prepares the chicken like your grandmother use to and fried the chicken at my request in an iron skillet in lard. OMG best chicken I've eaten in 50 years. Then there was locally grown corn on the cob. I don't think I've ever had better (I SWEAR). REAL mashed potatoes with REAL chicken gravy made from the chicken dripping along with freshly snapped green beans from the garden with country ham and onion. Of course there was no lack of rolls and butter. Then there was home made desserts. Peach Cobbler, various pies, etc. Since I had called ahead a week before the meal was served within minutes of arrival and family style. It was all you could eat and drink. OMG again!!! One of the best meals I've had in years. Phyllis is one of the best cooks anywhere. I can tell you that even though this is a drive into the country you won't be disappointed. ESPECIALLY IF YOU CALL AHEAD WITH A SPECIAL MEAL REQUEST. If you show up here on the week-end you will likely find it hard to get on the parking lot. You would expect to find it full of old beat up pick up trucks based on where this restaurant is located but you will likely find Jaguars, Lexus and Mercedes along with other high end motor vehicles because once you find the Pine Grove Restaurant and if you like good home cooking you will be coming back time after time. I've frequented this restaurant regularly for over 20 years. Used to be great. Gone downhill since latest owner took over. Prices higher, food quality lower, and service is sporadic. CASH or CHECKS only! They used to have an ATM on site..but no more. God help you if you forget and have just plastic...closest ATM is in Round Hill (30 min round trip) The waitresses are great, esp the Sat night crew. But the ownership & management leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I just turned 60 and this was one of the finest breakfast dinning experiences that I have had in my life time. And I was very fortunate to have my 25 year old daughter with me at the time. We loved everything about the experience. The food could not have been better, it was even placed on the plates so perfectly you could of taken a picture of it for advertising.
