I'm a huge fan of Westlake Joe's... saw the logo, and expected something similar... DAY UM. My spouse ordered a steak sandwich.. came with obviously frozen fries (tasteless) and a "garden salad," which was 50% canned kidney beans and garbanzos...(which we can't eat) smothered in bottled dressing. The steak sandwich plate was BEAUTIFUL to look at; looked like a magazine cover...huge French roll, bright tomatoes , lettuce, etc. COMPLETELY INEDIBLE. nothing on the bread, not grilled, no dressing, mayo...nothing... asked for A1.. tried small piece of the steak...stringy, no flavor.... just awful. asked for a box, and gave half of the (still looking great) sandwich to a homeless guy. I ordered a "fluffy 4 egg omelet, with sausage and mushrooms".. an omelet should look yellow /white, right? This was grilled BROWN/FLAT and looked like a folded pancake; zero flavor of sausage or mushroom, just decent mozzarella... the "home fries" were boiled red potatoes in big hunks, mixed with mostly half-cooked, BIG pieces of raw onion and bell pepper....none of the flavors meshed... ok unfriendly service. server handed me a box for the half sandwich, which we gave out at a stoplight.. I've been here twice. This place isn't bad...but its not good either. Very run of the mill salty, yet unseasoned food. Everything just kinda tastes meh. The food needs more soul. I can see how this place might be a comfort to some. Its giving me middle American diner in the 90s. This is the nastiest fucking restaurant my family and I have EVER been to. First of all, our waiter, Lance, was a creep who literally said he had a "shock collar for me" ?! Next, they were extremely disrespectful to the family next to us, pretty sure because they were clearly hispanic, Lance assumed orders for them.. "let me guess you want mozzarella sticks"...etc, then got her order wrong and picked a fight with her. The woman also asked a different server, "Sir come here please" he walked away, my mom called him, he looked over, and again walked away. My dad's food was so disgusting, and btw let me mention it took..umm maybe like 2 minutes to all get our food? Clearly it's pre-heated, not fresh or cooked at all. My mom's soup looked like straight up vomit. Also why would you give my mom a straw with her wine?! For some reason I was expecting more from this place. Walked in and it seemed like an old Dennys/ Diner. Nothing exciting but it was clean. The server seemed nice enough and seemed like she was really trying. She might have been new because every question I asked she had to go back to the cook to ask. I asked her if I could substitute the toast and potatoes with either eggs or bacon and she goes back to ask then returns and says yes we can give you just the steak and bacon. I told her I still wanted the eggs so she goes back to ask again and returns adding we will have to charge you as a side of we do that. I told her to leave it as is because she was getting more confused with each question. I ordered the special steak and eggs and she asked me what kind of steak. I told her whatever steak came with the breakfast. She seemed very confused. When the food came out was quite subpar. It wasn't awful but it wasn't great by any means. The toast was hard and the steak flavorless nothing special about it. I would probably not pick this place to eat at if you have other options in the area. The bill for 2 adults came out to $70 with tip. 2 steak and egg breakfasts, 1 kids grilled cheese, and 2 coffees. Definitely not worth the price tag. The one positive part was the girl that was responsible for refilling our drinks and coffee was on point. She made sure our cups never got half way. She kept them full even after our meal. read more

4.5 stars. Half Moon Bay Joe's takes you back in time with its plushy deli counter seating and comfy booths. We came in at noon on a very warm Half Moon Bay Saturday and found plenty of seating to along with its idyllic atmosphere and ambiance. I was actually pretty surprised that they weren't busier based on the time of day and its location, but maybe we were just lucky? The roads were definitely packed. Parking was easy, and service was fantastic. Everyone here is so kind and cordial, plus our food came out super quickly, which always helps when you have a toddler in tow. We had calamari, garlic bread, two omelettes, the kids spaghetti and meatballs, and a couple of drinks. They probably couldn't believe how much food we packed down, and even when we were done, we hung out in the parking lot for a bit to let the toddler explore and were not hassled at all. The only thing I wish they did better was give the food a little longer on the griddle because my home fries were a little undercooked and underseasoned. Otherwise, we will definitely be back. Stopped by after a 7 mile hike and it was an amazing dining experience! The food was amazing, I would 100% recommend the clam chowder and chocolate mousse cake. We stopped in here with some friends while visiting the half moon bay area. The reason our friends picked this particular restaurant was for its family friendliness with their toddler and that is the only reason we came here. The highlight of our experience was our waitress who was joyful and friendly. Everything else was downhill. The restaurant itself stank and the bathrooms smelled like sewage. The kitchen was a mess and the menu was so massive, there's no way you can maintain quality with a menu that huge. I ordered the green salad which was terrible but there was really not a whole lot I could find for a vegetarian that wasn't otherwise probably coming out of a bag and reheated. Hubby ordered the French dip and it was massive, soggy and terrible. Our friends ordered the Spanish sausage omelette with side pancake, eggs Benedict and kids Mac and cheese, all which looked very pasty and bland. Overall the portions were enormous. The quality was very low, and I was really surprised at the prices for such low quality food. Our server however was lovely and they get an extra star for her because she was attentive and really hard working. Otherwise it was a solid one star experience with definitely one star food. Half Moon Bay is a beautiful place to visit but the average cost of dinning has gone up significantly recently. This location is a little ways done from the main tourist area but is worth a visit especially if you like the old fashioned "Dinner Experience". Lots of open space filled with Large cushioned booth's so you can sit comfortably enjoying the large window views. Food is good but overpriced, however the service makes up for that. If you're a beer drinker you'll get a little more if you go with Tap rather than bottled. Few things: -Kids portion are large and come extremely hot in temp -Water tastes like Tap (perhaps go for bottled). -Beer on Tap kinda has a funny taste bottled beer taste old -appetizer's are lacking in options -For dessert a number of pies and ice cream options. I had a cheesecake 3/5. Over all good service and restrooms are clean. read more

Hope the owner reads this. We were the only customers for most of our visit. The food was mostly tasty and the service was very good. In hopes that I will have a reason to visit again, I asked the waitress to ask the chef to serve food on warmed plates. Our food and plates were slightly warm. The American cheese in our omelette was not melted. Also plumbing issues. The Men's toilet can't flush a toilet seat liner in one flush and there is a small leak at the handle. The coffee was great and I loved the free Daily Journal newspaper. Fix em please. We drove an extra 26 miles to be customers. read more

service was great chef doesn't know how to cook over medium eggs- cut in and a huge puddle of uncooked egg whites all over my (small) serving of hash browns and cut up sausage- yuck!! I blotted up most of it by the time our server spotted me and asked if I wanted them to cook them more- by then half my egg was on my napkin- so no point. I had almost ordered the omelette- should have! I was a little surprised to see they charge an extra $2 to have mushrooms in your Joes special- as far as I know that's a standard ingredient. read more

Google had high reviews so we went here for lunch and got a rubber calamari meal for THIRTY DOLLARS and a blackened chicken Ceasar (salty mayo) salad. This food is how Westlake Joe was before the mortuary bought Westlake Joe's and Orignal Joe's that was in the tenderloin. It is well worth the ride to half Moon Bay, pretty view. The soup was just as it was in the 60's in the Tenderloin. The veal Parmesan, and chicken Parmesan was out of this world. My daughter had the spaghetti and meatballs. My husband & I walked in as they were closing (Yelp said they were open an hour longer) on Labor Day. We were just looking for dessert & the guy (I wish I knew his name) greeted us so warmly & without hesitation. There was a gentleman who was sitting at the counter. Turns out it was the owner, Pablo. He was incredibly warm & we chatted about the desserts he made himself & other things. Even after a LONG, exhausting day-they both treated us like VIPs. Arrived about 7:30am or so, was warmly greeted by a gentleman named Jesus. Super nice & respectful guy. He proceeded to hand me a menu and allowed me to pick any table I liked. The restaurant had two other tables in addition to me, and I must say everyone seemed to be enjoying their morning here at Joes. I asked Jesus what he recommended as I had never been there before, he let me know that everything was delicious, therefore I ordered the NY steak & eggs, steak cooked medium, accompanied by sourdough toast and breakfast potatoes. Must say the steak was made PERFECT! Nice crisp exterior of the steak, with a nice juicy red tender inside. The steak was truly a delight. I recommend! In all, I give this place a 10/10, for service, speed of service, and flavorful delicious food, and attentiveness to my coffee and water. Which is at times at many places overlooked. Not here tho! My wife and I came here for breakfast late on a Saturday, and we loved it. Food was delicious with both some familiar and surprising choices on the breakfast/ brunch menu. The short rib Benedict is worth a try!! Service was friendly, nice casual weekend morning vibe, nostalgic music ... good times. Pro tip: we waited outside for a while to be sat, and then realized that outdoor seating is first come first served. When the weather in HMB is nice, outdoor is a great option. Personally, I thought my experience was great. If you want a nice, quiet restaurant where you can take your time and not feel rushed, this is 100% the place. (I went on a Saturday, where it is known for HMB to get pretty busy) To begin, the host let me choose where I wanted to sit, which was very nice! Since it was pretty empty, I sat in the corner by the bar where I could read quietly. The kitchen was eating lunch, but were very quick to cook my food and it was delicious! Servers checked in frequently, kitchen staff seemed great, and the food was delicious. Since I went there to read, I finished paying and they allowed me to stay there and finish reading as long as I wanted. At no point did I feel rushed or unwanted there! I can't wait to go back again! Bathrooms were also clean and well maintained. Bussers also would frequently clean tables, even if they weren't used! I recommend the pancakes if you want something simple and not too filling. read more
