So many bakeries are popping up in SGV area, making them hard to stand out. We go the assorted tarts, 5 for $16, to try the flavors. This is a great option so you don't have to commit to a whole flavor if you are unsure, but honestly I think it's a little overpriced. I'm not a banana fan, but the banana miso was one of my favorites. They also have a guava, , berry, peach, and passion fruit, the latter which was also good. The crust is good, and the flavors are all good, but I didn't find anything that sets them apart. I actually found that they do a good tonic, which is juice, espresso, and tonic water. This drink is definitely not for everyone, but as far as one goes, not bad (it's a little on the juicier side, in a good way). This place is a casual coffee and dessert shop, and they don't have much indoor seating, unfortunately. Service was just ok (I say this because they didn't say anything about where to pick up, where to get water, point out seats, etc) and you serve yourself water. The inside of the shop is pretty small, with only a few tables available both inside and outside. Because of how popular this place has become, it can be difficult to find a spot to sit, especially during busier times. The decor inside is really nice, though, and I liked that there's a window where you can watch them prepare the tarts. They have a variety of drinks available, although I decided to skip the drinks this time. There's also a water station at the bar where you can grab water yourself, which is a nice convenience. I came mainly for the fruit tarts and was expecting there to be a larger selection, but there were only a handful of flavors available. The individual tart prices also felt a bit steep for their size. Instead, I decided to try the flight, which comes with five different flavors in bite-sized tarts. The flavors were pretty hit or miss for me. The banana was delicious, with a great balance between the fresh banana and cream. The fig was probably my least favorite because it was pretty bland and I didn't get much of the fig flavor. The peach + Earl Grey was a nice combination, with the tea flavor complementing the peach well. The passion fruit was definitely the most unique and my favorite of the flight. Unfortunately, it was also the only flavor that wasn't available in a full-size tart, which was a little disappointing. The best part of the tarts for me was actually the crust. It was perfectly crumbly while still being moist and had a really nice texture. I also liked that the plates the tarts were served on were chilled, which was a small but thoughtful touch. Overall, Pinecone wasn't bad, but I think there are a few areas that could be improved. With some adjustments to the pricing, flavor selection, and overall experience, I could see this becoming a place I'd want to return to. 8/22/2026 First time here. MINI TART FLIGHT All the tarts in bite-sized minis. You can try each of their flavors in one bite! Banana Miso Caramel - Caramelly, large piece of banana on a mini tart does make it taste more banana-y. Tart shell was buttery and crumbly. Really good! Mixed Berry Tart - Good tartness and freshness of mixed berries, good vanilla pastry cream. Crumbly tart shell. It is what you'd expect from a mixed berry tart. Peach Earl Grey Tart - Very strong and good Earl Grey flavor, crumbly, buttery tart. Don't remember the peach flavor, as it is a mini tart that easily disappears as soon as you pop it in your mouth. I got the regular tart (4") as well and it does taste differently than the mini. Because the Earl Grey pastry cream, the tart shell and tge fresh peaches are in full sizes, you can taste them better together. It has bigger flavor too. Really enjoyed it and I will be repurchasing this tart again if they continue to make them! Passion Fruit Tart - Very good, strong passion fruit flavor. Very well balanced and delicious! I might get the full size next time! Figgy Jin Xuan Oolong Tart - This was yum! I loved the fresh fig as soon as I popped it in my mouth! Buttery tart was crumbly and delicious. Because it was a mini, I do not remember the oolong flavor in the cream. All the mini tarts were lightly sweetened, balanced and size was simply perfect to eat. You can easily pop one mini tart in your mouth, all bite sized and delicious! Recommend the Mini Tart Flight on your first visit! MATCHA CORTADO Got mine iced and it was really delicious! Lightly sweetened with simple syrup, but still so light, I'm not sure anything was added. Although milky, I got it whole milk, but the matcha shined through with a light bitterness and sweetness in the matcha. Still, in comparison to other matchas I've had, it is still on the lighter side when it comes to the strength of the matcha flavor. LATE SUMMER "TONIC" When I asked about Farmer's Tan, she said it is just milk tea. No strong flavors of orange. So I opted for the espresso tonic. The espresso was very smoky and acidic to a point of sourness. The smoky flavor overpowered anything else. The yuzu and passionfruit flavor was muddled, where you get a hint of those flavors and you can taste the citrus notes, but still, you cannot tell what fruits are added to it if no one told you what was in it. You can see the passionfruit seeds floating in the drink and it was pretty with the ombre orange shade. Nonetheless, I wouldn't recommend this drink. AMBIANCE + SEATS 5-6 tables for 2. Very cozy ambiance. Wooden chairs and tables, cozy lighting. Modern, yet cozy. There were outdoor seats too, but they were metal tables and chairs. Pop music playing in the background, but it was not loud. One unisex bathroom. Brand new and clean. CUSTOMER SERVICE There was only one person at the front register who took orders. She was friendly and helpful. She also came by my table later asking me what I thought of the tarts. I rarely get staff checking in when at dessert / coffee shops, so I was pleasantly surprised. LINES Came on a Saturday at 9:30am. There was no line, but slowly people started trickling in close and there was already a line a little past 10:00am. Come in as early as possible on weekends! LOCATION / PARKING Next to: Jumpin' Lobster, Yang's Kitchen. If you're lucky, you can find one of the two parking spots directly in front of Pinecone. It is a 24 min. parking spot. Was shocked to see a single personal tart at 15.00. maybe I am out or touch and don't know current prices but IMO that's at least 5.00 over priced if not more. It was decent but not mine blowing. I expect mind blowing at those prices. We stopped by after dim sum, so towards the end of the day for a bakery, around 230pm and selection was very limited, basically one fig left and a few passion fruit. New coffee shop and bakeshop that recently popped up in the SGV! I used to pick up their tarts all the time when they were known as The Hangry Bakery and were doing pop-ups at Yang's Kitchen. I believe the owner's name is Joyce, so I'm really happy to see that she finally has her own storefront now! The tarts here are amazing. They taste great, look beautiful, and they always have some really nice flavor combinations. Today I picked up the Peach Earl Grey Tart and it was so good. The crust itself tasted amazing, and I really liked that the whole tart wasn't overly sweet. They run around $15 each, which does sound kinda pricey for a tart, but honestly the quality is there. I was standing there wanting to order every flavor lol, but I'll save some for next time. They also make larger tarts, which would be perfect if you're planning a party or bringing dessert to a gathering. Super happy to see them grow from doing pop-ups to having their own storefront in Alhambra. Definitely come check them out if you're into tarts. This review is just for the coffee because by the time I arrived, all the tarts are gone! I will definitely have to come back and snag myself a whole box if I wake up early enough! Since I was there already, I decided to order two drinks: the Hojicha Latte and the Shady Monkey. The hojicha flavor wasn't really there and my drink tasted more like vanilla. As for the shady monkey, I was very happy to taste the banana. It had a nice, bold flavor without being overpowering. I would order the Shady Monkey again but the Hojicha latte was forgettable. The café itself has a cozy, welcoming feel, and the service was friendly from start to finish. It made for an easy place to slow down and enjoy a cup of coffee. For the big tarts, it was like $15 each. IMO, the tarts were pricey. I don't know about the bigger tarts, but the mini tarts didn't have much flavors to it. I couldn't really tell which flavor was which. The one that stood out most (flavor wise) was the passion fruit. I could also somewhat tasted the earl grey one. The tarts were good, but it was a bit too much cream since the tarts were so small. I tasted more of the cream than anything else. If you don't mind spending lots on tarts then maybe the big ones are better. I m sure the flavors in the bigger ones would stand out more. Well, I hope so. I ordered 2 drinks. I ordered Hojicha latte. The gal charged me extra for it to be sweetened. That was something that should be offered without charge...sweeten or not. Its made with fresh peaches so you get real peach flavor! that means its not overly scented with the essence of peach. The drink is the perfect sweetness and just enough fizziness to make it fancy. i liked it and my kid enjoyed it alot too. Really good quality and loved that its all from scratch or at least it def tastes that way. What makes her tarts so great other than the well made creams is the crust. its the perfect about of strength to hold onto all that topping but still soft enough to break into with a fork without having to use your muscles. Most tarts have a crazy hard crust and you end up destroying the whole dessert just to break through it. The crust is perfect and even has a good flavor on its own. In short, high quality drinks and tarts. It is definitely pricey but you get high quality in return. the tarts are also quite rich but not heavy filling so its great for sharing. if you think about it you can share with another person or eat only half and its a decadent $8 dessert. I ordered the Baker's Vanilla Latte and though they do offer different coffee choices, I went with the Hologram as the cashier also thought its notes would pair better with the vanilla, and it was very smooth. Espresso was strong, but I loved it. Their standard here is Oat Milk, which is a plus for me already as well! I'm excited to try their other drinks. I also ordered the Mini Tart Flight, and omgoodness they are adorable! I think my favorites are the Banana Miso Caramel Cream Tart & Passion Mango Tart. If you like tea flavor, I think the Peach Earl Grey Tart has a slightly stronger flavor. The Figgy Jin Xuan Oolong Tart was good, but the Oolong flavor isn't as strong. The Mixed Berry Tart is a bit more of a standard tart that you might see elsewhere. All were *not too sweet*, though some are sweeter than others. The hype is real. This place is sooooo good. The tarts are all highly unique and not overly sweet. Great for the Asian palate. The mango sticky rice tart is highly unique in that they packed the rice and condensed milk cream into the tart, with finely sliced mangos on top. The matcha was great quality with Japan. I had the Matcha Americano, which tasted more like matcha without the coffee, probably because they had a small shot in it. The vibes are super nice from the staff too. Currently soft opening is semi-busy but the wait isn't anything too crazy when we were here the second weekend. Probably about 5 tables give or take, with a few outside, so not much seating. If you want the short answer: This place is perfectly "not too sweet" IYKYK! In a city that is full of Asian bakeries, this one manages to do something a bit different. With a focus on tarts and a menu that changes based on locally sourced ingredients, there is something special about this place. The ambiance is very cute, and has outdoorsy elements while staying very modern!! I had been wanting to try this place even before they opened and finally had the chance to visit on a Sunday morning a week after their grand opening. There was still a line of at least 20+ outside, but a kind, young staffer was passing out the day's menu and explained that there was a 3 tart limit. This threw me for a loop since I intended to get one of each, but I get it. They have been selling out of tarts by 2pm each day so far! The menu is simple; there are 5 tart varieties ($14 each) and one option to get a sampler of 5 mini tarts ($16). Originally, I planned to get 3 sets of the mini tarts but after seeing how small they really are IRL, I opted to get a mini tart sampler for my friend as a gift and the Peach Earl Grey and the Mango sticky rice tart which I shared with other friends. I had to wait another 15 minutes after ordering my tarts since they were still working on them in the back (even though they were on plates in the glass case. Turns out that was for those dining in. Luckily, I brought a book and had a chance to sit down at one of the tables that just opened up and read. Otherwise, this could've been a little annoying only because this place was packed with people waiting for their drink orders and already quite cozy to begin with. Both the Peach Earl Grey and Mango Sticky Rice tarts were delicious! The Peach Earl Grey was delicate yet so flavorful and easily exceeded my expectations. Delicious seasonal fruit tarts! It feels like every week that a new exciting bakery opens up in the SGV, but Pinecone surprisingly fills a niche that I don't think any other one really occupies: tarts! We've been to Pinecone twice now, and it appears that they have about 5 rotating selections. We've tried all 5 as part of their mini tart flight, and we've tried individual ones on their own, and they are all wonderful. The quality of the ingredients definitely shines through, and I'm always impressed by how the tart is able to hold its shape. They have a nice coffee and matcha menu as well. I really respect the owner's decision to turn Pinecone into more of a "sit-down and enjoy the moment" type of cafe, rather than a working cafe. They intentionally don't have wifi for this reason, and selfishly, I also think it helps with being able to find a seat. Yes, the tarts are decently pricey, but I think they are well worth it with the uniqueness they offer. I will definitely keep coming back to try the seasonal flavors! read more

It's a cute bake shop with parking in front and back. I tried the mini tart flight, which came in five flavors. The tarts are very small- more like bite size portions. Since I am drawn to tea-inspired flavors, my favorite was the peach earl grey followed by the fig oolong. Some of the cutest tarts ever! Me and my friend decided to go visit and try some of the tarts. The wait wasn't too bad , around 30 mins in the afternoon. Staff were kind enough to let us know if and when the tarts are going to be sold out including the tote bags . They also passed down the menu which is nice. The interior is kinda small with some seating and is aesthetically pleasing. Since it was our first time, we decided to split the tart flight and the Mango Sticky Rice tart. Tart flight: 8/10 The tart flight comes in all of their tarts in mini sized. Starting with the Figgy Xuan Oolong Tart, it was a little underwhelming with an aftertaste of crust, however it would be best to retry again full size. Meanwhile the Banana Miso Caramel Cream is reminiscent of banana pudding which is really nice. The passion Mango Tart does have a nice sourness from the passion fruit yet refreshing. With Peach Earl Grey Tart , there is definitely an earl grey tea aftertaste while the peach adds a juicy sweetness. Lastly the Mango Sticky Rice tart, (talking about the full size and is in the flight) has a slight sticky rice flavor and with the mangoes in short is amazing. The staff person was very nice. he came out to greet us and ask us to line up in such a way that would not block the sidewalk. The interior of this bakery is very cute. There are indoor seating for people to enjoy their tarts and beverages. The tarts are all individually boxed for take out. Each customer is limited to 2 tarts (since it is only a soft opening). There were two of us, so we can purchase more than 2 tarts. It was my first time here. Just like any other recently opened spots, quite a line out the door, but fortunately I got my turn in just few minutes. It was bright and cute, and the display case was filled with beautiful-looking tarts. We tried the mini tart flight and loved everything. The reason for not giving it five stars is: 1) the space is pretty tight, and seating is very limited. Unfortunately, people will just occupy tables to chat even when they see people waiting for a table. I wish they had standing communal tables so the turnover would be a little quicker. 2) They are only open until 4 p.m., which means when we go out to dinner, this won't be a place we can stop by for dessert. I came here during their soft opening. All the tarts were so pretty & we got almost every flavor to try. My favorite was the banana & caramel miso and the peach earl grey. The prepackaged desserts are in a showcase and can be out of stock by 2:00 PM. I came here originally for ice cream, but found they only sell pre-made desserts. I'm not sure I like this concept, as the freshness is questionable. However, I gave it a try, as this was their grand opening weekend. The tarts were not as fruity quantity wise and the packaging was rather meager, so I felt I would give it a little time to get things right. read more

overall: really cute bakery and will definitely be back food: we got the mini tart flight. I love that they offer a tart flight because there's just too many flavors to choose from. my favorites were the figgy jin xuan oolong and the peach earl grey tart. the tea flavor is strong and compliments the fruit well. the tarts on the flight were smaller than expected but u can still taste the flavor pretty well. drinks: we got the hojicha latte and the flavor was pretty strong and earthy. I think the drink came unsweetened but it really balanced out the sweetness from the tarts. service: staff was very friendly and the drinks came out pretty quickly. seating: some seating inside and outside but it can get pretty busy later in the morning. parking: plenty of free parking in the nearby parking structures and on the street. read more

Pinecone is such a cute addition to the neighborhood! I stopped by after noticing this new coffee shop had opened down the street, and it did not disappoint one bit. The space is cozy, thoughtfully designed, and has such a warm, inviting atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with a friend or getting a little work done (note: there was no wi-fi available when I visited, I think that might the norm!) The highlight for me was definitely the tarts--they were incredibly fresh, buttery, and absolutely delicious. They paired perfectly with my matcha latte, and I'll definitely be back to try more of the pastry selection. So excited to have a neighborhood spot like this. Wishing them all the success! read more

Date: July 13, 2026 Omg, we were so sad. We were third next in line and they sold out on tarts. . So we ended up just getting drinks. I got the matcha latte and unfortunately, it didn't taste like matcha at all. It was super bitter, but not the taste of matcha. More like bitter water. Hope to return to visit and get to try their tarts though. They look BEAUTIFUL! read more

I know this bakery since 2 years ago when they were still a pop-up. I'm so glad they now have a permanent location! It just locates next to Ying's Kitchen on Main Street, which is very convenient. I remember the pie I bought from them before was so good. It didn't disappoint this time as well! They offer mini tart flight that you can try all 5 of the seasonal flavors in a mini version of tart, which is one bite and you easily eat them all at a time. They are perfect for those who have difficulty in making a choice like myself. Honestly, all the flavours are so good and I seriously can't pick my favourite! Pinecone Bakehouse is a new bakery and cafe that just opened in Alhambra. Their specialty is their fruit tarts which are made with local produce, heritage grains, and sustainable ingredients. After soft opening for several weekends, they officially opened their doors on July 18th. I love anything with Asian inspired flavors so was excited to check this place out. I initially visited during the soft opening a few weeks ago and unfortunately the tarts had sold out already. Since I was there already, I decided to just try their iced matcha latte sweetened with homemade syrup. The matcha flavor wasn't really there so can't say I'd go back for that drink. More recently, my friend bought a box of two tarts to our friend gathering for my birthday and we all loved them! We tried the peach earl grey tart and the banana miso caramel cream tart and the crowd favorite was definitely the earl grey! They sure are pricey (~$13 to $15 each) but reasonable considering they use high quality ingredients and put a lot of care into making each pastry. Def wanna return to try more of their flavors! read more

Boy are these tarts pricey but my mom said they taste good and she understands why they cost so much. I'm sad I missed out on the berry tart and the matcha tart. I'm a fan of the peach earl grey. The oolong in the fig tart is a bit light. The regular sized tarts are better than the minis, but the minis are fun to try all the flavors. The minis are more crust than anything else. read more

SO obsessed with these fruit tarts! I found this spot on Instagram and came by on a Thursday around 11am and it wasn't crowded at all. Staff handed me a menu to look at the current flavors. I definitely knew I wanted to try the mango sticky rice one as I had seen that all over IG but then saw they had a mini tart flight which is amazing so you can try all of the flavors!! I got the mango sticky rice for a friend and the mini flight for myself. They were all incredible!! Fruit was super fresh, custard was well balanced and not too sweet and the crust was perfect!!! If I didn't live so far I'd probably be here every week! Will definitely be back and need to try some of their drinks. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to pick up some tarts. Parked in the structure around the corner and the walk over took two minutes. All the tables were full and there were a few people in front of us when we arrived but we were helped pretty quickly. They had 3 flavors available when we were there: mixed berry, banana miso caramel cream, and peach earl grey. We got the banana ($13) and peach ($14) which were a little pricey but they were both so good and worth it. I believe their flavors change seasonally so if you see a flavor you like, make sure to try it! read more
