Free food but the service sucked. Live music on weekends sometimes, but it was a total sausagefest! Will not be going back.

The entire department of intake guards is just the sheriffs department rejects. None of them have even spent a minute in a gym and the majority of them look as if they just got done eating 7 donuts. their only upper hand is that they have weapons while you have your hands cuffed. I watched one guy get taken back behind curtains and beat by 4 guards who would otherwise struggle in a fair environment, all because he made a joke about how the know-it-all guard was short. He's Hispanic/asian and is trying to grow a beard but it's a struggle for him. The inmates frequently pick on him for being short, and He thought he was cool by putting me in solitary because "I didn't look like I respected him," to which I replied that respect was earned not given. That was his green light to handcuff me, throw me into a cell, and rip apart my single sheet of paper with phone numbers. Mind you, I was arrested for a suspended license and was released same day. I did nothing violent, was quiet, posed no harm to anybody. The night time guards pretty much all of them were super reasonable and even helpful at times, and would converse or even joke a bit with you. However, the day time guards it's pretty obvious they're picked on frequently and were likely bullied when younger. I get that they're dealing with some terrible people, but they also deal with folks who made a very simple mistake and are just trying to be released. They're extremely self conscious and it's obvious that they know that if they were on and even field with the inmates that they wouldn't be nearly as confident. Yelling, speaking with a fake deep voice does not change the fact that people don't respect this group of Scorned sheriffs rejects. You have grown women out in squad cars risking their lives but then you have this group of losers sitting in intake knowing they weren't brave or qualified enough to do what the real sheriffs do

There are older wings too though which are a little dilapidated so try to arrange for a newer wing; you may have to fight for it, literally. Their rooms feel a little snug; they can't be much larger than 6x10, and that includes the bathroom facilities and vanity, which is conveniently integrated into the toilet itself for space savings. The walls are solid concrete which feels a little institutional but they're good for giving you a nice sense of security should inclement weather present itself. I would take a picture but the gentlemen working at the front desk took my camera and my clothes, hence the two star rating; I would have preferred to have kept my belongings while they have my outfit dry cleaned. A big complaint I have is with the phone situation. I realize hotels like to nickel and dime you to death, 25 cents per call, 50 cents per call, but this place is really ridiculous; you are required to call collect and the person on the other end has to pay a few dollars just to talk to you. I mean really, that's excessive. The common areas are well maintained, seemingly by the guests themselves as odd as that sounds. There is a communal shower kind of like what you'd find at a nice European hostel. It seemed clean enough but some of the other guests were a little more affectionate than I'd have liked while showering; one even referred to me as "Honey" which I found quite odd. There is no swimming pool, and the gym is also outside, so if you want to get a workout in while it's raining, that probably won't happen. The food is mediocre and they do not give you metal utensils, just plastic. The surrounding area is likely a little sketchy because there seem to be an abundance of security guards patrolling the grounds. Other than that though, hard to give it one star since the stay is free.

Facility~ 5 Stars Dickhead OPD that arrested me~ 0 Stars…read more I spent a relaxing night here a few years ago for allegedly violating article VIII section 18-411 Code 1986, 94.01 of the city ordinance, better known as "off premises canvassing". A local night club hired us to pass out free drink passes but failed to mention the law preventing it. The officer wanted to make an example out of me to show the club owners they wanted the fliering to stop. I was given no warning. It was my first (and perhaps last) time in a place of incarceration, and I must say that I was rather pleasantly surprised with the experience given the circumstances. My memory is a bit hazy--you'll have to excuse me as this was quite a few years ago. The facility was newly built, in a concrete-metal style that is elegant in its spareness and utility. It is, however, lacking in a certain fluidity. My particular cell was absolutely spic and span. A polished concrete floor and stainless steel fixtures complemented a minimal, Japanese-inspired interior. In keeping with its status as a public facility, individual dwellings were completely sealed from each other with little flow or openness betwixt them. A rolled up mat normally provides an additional level of comfort to the metal bunks lined nicely up against the walls. Staff was generally efficient and friendly. My fellow detainee's had lovely words of encouragement as this was not their first offence. A new, soft gray blanket provided much needed warmth during the morning chill. Unfortunately, I was not able to turn off the fluorescent lights at my discretion. This, however, did nothing to disturb my inability to sleep because I was still in shock from the arrest . If I were to suggest one area of improvement--the food was severely lacking. In the morning, I was given a tray containing a carton of low fat milk, generic brand cereal, mushy grits and 2 slices of white bread. While the cereal was satisfying (the milk, in particular, was very refreshing for a very parched throat), the grits were inedible. The two slices of white bread, I later learned come with every meal. 42 pieces a week in fact. With all the fresh produce that is locally available in Orlando, I felt it would represent the city better if these were available to the facility's temporary dwellers.

My experience with Orange County Jail has been extremely negative. Many of the officers who control…read moreinmate movement and meal times appear to abuse their authority and treat inmates harshly. They often yell at and disrespect inmates instead of handling situations with professionalism. The meal schedule is also very irregular and inhumane. For example, breakfast is served around 6 a.m., but lunch may not be served until 5 p.m., and dinner as late as 8 p.m. This goes against the standard meal schedule that inmates should receive. In addition, I've encountered serious unprofessional behavior from staff, including being hung up on when calling administrative offices and receiving rude or dismissive treatment when trying to ask about inmate services. The people who work here are truly miserable and it'd be nice if there were some people who actually have empathy and patience to work here. There also seems to be a lack of fairness and transparency in how certain processes are handled -- for example, requests related to marriage or paperwork are denied for questionable reasons, such as claims about missing immigration stamps that have nothing to do with the marriage process. On top of that, they are very disorganized and you will get different information depending on who you ask. All the staff is NOT on the same page. Corporal Tinsley is an inconsiderate power hungry individual who is racist and not willing to accommodate or help out certain individuals with unique circumstances. Overall, the system feels broken, unaccountable, and deeply unprofessional. Orange County Jail needs oversight, accountability, and proper staff training to ensure inmates and their loved ones are treated with basic dignity and respect.

It was a nice touch to have a person assist you after going through security. She walked me to the computer kiosk and assisted. There are 30 or so service windows divided by category. My number was called but they then asked me to go back to the kiosk for a different category. The woman at window four seemed 'bothered' to find solutions in helping me. A very rude coworker stood behind her meddling in my business while working on something shaking her head no and mumbling "no." They are there to serve the public and find solutions since they are trained and the public is not familiar with the processes and options. The woman said I needed to hire an attorney to get the records. No, not an option. I am not paying to get records I can get myself. They were not helpful and unwilling to do their job. I went back to the kiosk a third time and went back to a different rep in the first category, records. I was called immediately. The man at window 29 was SO HELPFUL. He asked questions and even asked a manager for guidance. He filled out papers for a record search and said the archives would work on it and I would be contacted. I received a call within a couple of hours. She had questions and was researching. Received two more calls from the nice lady as she was broadening her search. She called me a fourth time and found the records. I thanked her profusely on the phone. She replied, "it is my job to serve our customers." That is a public servant. This woman and the nice man are what is right with the staff on the ground floor, Room 101. Tax dollars well spent. Heading in today to pick up my papers, WITHOUT SPENDING MONEY ON AN ATTORNEY.
