Pink Basil TIP: Friday around Happy Hour - - Be early We happened to stop by for dinner on a Friday evening around 6:00. Yikes!!! The place was nearly at capacity & they sat us near the front door. Not the best seats, but the place was fully booked. The check-in seemed a bit disorganized or should I say - - overwhelmed. It was as if they had a trainee up front. Other than that, no real issue. My wife ordered Tofu Pad Thai - - she likes both, so the combination was good for her. I ordered four appetizers: fried spring rolls, rice wrapper fried shrimp, fried pork dumplings, & plain chicken wings. All four were very good and highly recommended. The dumplings also come in chicken or veggies. The wings come in three other styles. The wings were cooked perfectly. All four of the appetizers came with dipping sauces, but I preferred the sweet soy sauce dipping sauce (it came with the fried dumplings) over the orange sweet and sour sauce. In fact, I dipped all my appetizers in it. It does get crowded. Enjoy. read more

The food was pretty good and the drinks tasted like they were made with real fresh fruit! However, the service I received here on my visit was subpar. It was really strange when I received the check and my dish said "no spice" even though the waitress never asked my spice preference... if she had I would have preferred a spicy dish. Despite the restaurant not being incredibly busy, our waitress barely checked in on us and rushed us out before we were even done with our meal by bringing us boxes and the check without us asking. I appreciate proactive service but it felt odd considering there were groups that were still seated and had arrived earlier than we did. read more

Have to give this one a mediocre rating. I ordered the Massoman curry, which was delicious except for the sweet potatoes. They were spongy and bland - must have been canned or frozen. Absolutely delicious, everything on the menu is so tasty. The service is great, portions are large (especially for the price). Each dish has a depth of flavor and is individually different. 3/2/2020 is when I visited for dinner. Good over all place in the heart of old mystik village. They didn't disappoint. The food was alright, nothing to fancy but again just a bit above your typical order out Chinese place. The sushi was again ok, I mean I have had better, but for my first time here I wasn't to impressed. This was a terrible spot. Beautiful and convenient spot close to the aquarium, but the positives stop there. We ordered many things, and our entire order was either wrong or not done well. Most of the $135 order was overcharged, but $4+ on each item. Papaya salad is 8.95 on menu- rang up 12.95 example. It also was full of lettuce and barely any papaya. Would not make the trip again. Great place! Came here with my girlfriend and our son for lunch after visiting the aquarium. We got there as soon as it opened so we were pretty lucky. But the food was amazing! The chicken wings were perfect. My girlfriend's noodles were so good, and the rainbow roll hit the spot. Also, order the Mai Thai. Your welcome. The staff was friendly, prompt and reliable. The place was clean and looked real cool. Go there if you like Thai food and sushi. Prices weren't too bad. Highly suggest people with families go there. Better thai or asian restaurants around here than this. The inside is nice looking, perhaps so you forget that you're eating lackluster grub and think about the ambiance. Once I ordered takeout and they said 30 minute wait and we ended up waiting over an hour and a half to get two dishes. The food was just ok. Of course it makes sense to dull down any flavor for a crowd of people that are generally white, but it is dissapointing any way. Recently I went there and got burnt noodles that really lacked any flavor and it was dry. Actually, if it was going for a charred flavor that definitely was there. Couldnt even eat it. The food is always good but the service is terrible and if you are picking up make sure you come 30 minutes later than is planned as they are never ready when they say you order will be ready. This place must be run by people that do not care as I have had 3 bad experiences in a row and they always have an excuse. Quiet when we walked in during the middle of the day; a rainy Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago. I had soup with a coconut flavor (I believe perhaps it was Tom Kha?) I don't remember what it was called, but it was served in a medium sized bowl and was perfect food for such a drizzly day, and the perfect size for a light lunch, which was really what I was looking for. Husband had a pineapple curry which was delicious. I'm not huge on curry, but I swiped a bite and this is something even I would order. Definitely not bad food with fantastic service. I went with s friend this weekend and I had a good experience. The atmosphere is very friendly, great for a family or friend dinner. They have a full sushi bar which I highly recommend. I got a sushi roll as well as the pink basil noodles and i have to say the sushi was the highlight of my meal. The rolls were definitely the best in the area and presented really well. I did enjoy the pink basil noodles as well. The vegetables in them were a bit undercooked and unflavored but I enjoyed the noodles and sauce so much I didn't mind. I'd also definitely recommend the Thai iced tea. It's almost like a less intense matcha. Overall good experience and I'll head back if I'm in the area. read more

We have been here three times, and each time we have gotten the same waitress. This time I ordered a spicy tuna and spicy salmon roll and made sure to ask if there was cucumber in it (does not specify on the menu) because I'm allergic. She was confused at first, but then assured us there was no cucumber anywhere in it. When they arrived they were covered in a spicy mayo so I couldn't see inside, but I ate one, didn't taste cucumber and so ate another one. The second piece had much more cucumber than the first, and now my lips are swollen. When I brought this to her attention, she said they didn't have cucumber, I pointed to the pile of it on my plate and she asked "oh is that cucumber?" Then she offered to make another one, said I should have told her about it sooner she could make me another one, and that she didn't think it had cucumber. Luckily I'm not THAT allergic so it'll just be uncomfortable for a while, but she is not new and that was an extremely unpleasant experience. I don't think we will be back. Update: the offending rolls were not taken off nor offered to be taken off the bill. I did refuse to have them remade, but I also spent a long time picking out the cucumber so the food wasn't wasted. read more

This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. Came for an enjoyable dinner with friends. Renee D not only messed up our sushi order almost entirely but would not hear us out. She then proceeded to let us pay for her errors (charging us for rolls not ordered and never bringing correct ones). We then tried to just pay the bill, despite being clearly overcharged, but this process took 20 minutes at minimum. Renee then insisted there was a balance for a check that we were charged for (checked our account) and we had been charged on our accounts. She was rude and getting angry when we were explaining to her what was incorrect. We were all charged an extra 20 and asked for a manager to clear this up and she refused. My wife and I weren't hungry rather feeling a bit queasy. We've found that a ginger ale usually helps. Pink Basil was the first place we found so we went in and asked if they had ginger ale. We were sent to the bar where we were quickly given our sodas. The bartender was friendly, quick and very understanding. The sodas worked their magic and the price for us to each have two tall glasses of ginger ale was amazing. There was no pressure to buy anything else and we felt like we had found a truly friendly group of people. I'm not sure who the bartender was but I owe him! Which is disappointing because I really wanted to like this place. :( I really liked this place the moment at first glance. It had a great look to it. Although there were way too many staff at the front hostess desk, some were friendly, the rest were quiet. My friend and I were hungry and order lots of sushi. The server suggested pad thai and their cashew chicken which are pretty basic items. I can tell she has not tried much of the food at the restaurant so I skipped over her suggestion and stuck to the sushi. Here's where everything goes wrong: I asked her how many pieces of nigiri come in one order. She says "nigiri?.. oh do you mean sushi?... 2 pieces." Now you see, I love sushi but I don't understand why places around here charge a lot of money for the same cheap fish supplier. Trust me, you can tell the difference when you have been to different places. So I was excited and ordered a lot. Order of saba and amai ebi nigiri and a mystic sashimi selection with no kanikama, ebi, or escolar (which is cheap gimmick tuna for the basic people). The server was beyond lost when I used any of these names and I wonder how you can be a server and not have a single knowledge of the food you are serving. My guest ordered some sushi roll. We also ordered salmon tar tar and wakame. Server told us she would serve the tar tar and the wakame first before our entrees. After 30 mins of waiting, the sashimi selection was served. Then the sushi roll which came with nigiri and finally the salmon tar tar was served. Wakame was never served. Sashimi selection was smaller than expected and did come with the spicy tuna as specified. The nigiri only came with 1 piece which was not what the server explained. While my guest and I waited for a server, the server never came to check on us. There was a ton of staff at the front and they were just looking at us and did not approach us. No management came by. I waited 15 minutes before getting up and asking for the manager. He was completely lost and apologized when I told him what the issue was. He didn't know what nigiri was and had no idea what the sushi items were in Japanese. Which boggled to me how a manager does not know the traditions of the food they serve. He simply walked away and brought another server by because our original server left work without saying bye. I told the manager that I didn't want anything and that I was just hungry. I told him his server told me nigiri came with two pieces. The manager seem nervous and quickly left the situation. The new server came by and basically explained to me what was ordered and I told her I was very specific with what I wanted and pointed in the menu. Any ways, she put the order in and took our second drink order. After another 15 minutes, our dish was sitting in the window and we were at the booth staring at it and none of the servers came to pick it up. I could not make this up... I was about to just grab it and bring it to my table. The server finally served the Mystic selection and forgot our drinks. But she lied instead when we asked about the drinks... She said "oh yeah! I have it on the way!" Walks away then turns around and asks "it was crown on the rocks and glass of chardonnay right?" I actually ordered crown neat. The wakame was then finally served at the end of the dinner... I only gave the place two stars because they comped the appetizer and gave me two pieces as specified. But all in all, it was a horrible experience. Food was mediocre but great service could have really made it better. Fish was cheap (as expected because the sushi scene is weak here in the state). Drinks should have been comped as well but whatever. We both still tipped 20% because we were both very involved in the f&b industry but honestly, the front of house have no idea what they are doing. . read more
