But, for lunch this day the name and colors of Pink Basil caught our eyes. We were not disappointed. We tried 4 appetizers for lunch and they were all top notch. I've been a regular customer of Pink Basil for over three years and I've always loved it as a huge fan of Thai cuisine.....BUT, they have changed an item on the menu which was a big draw for me--the Lettuce Wrap. It WAS a delectable minced chicken appetizer and they have changed it beyond recognition. I'm not impressed and don't like Lettu e Wrap 2.0. I am not the only customer who wants the original wrap back!!!! I used to come to Pink Basil OFTEN for the Lettuce Wrap and now...I consider other Thai restaurants first and no longer feel drawn here. Sitting here for over 20 min after we finished our food waiting for our bill, and we are glaring at the wait staff as they stand around talking and not coming to take out empty plates. The food is amazing, this is the second time I've come and the drinks and the food are good. Our waitress gave us our menus and never came back the bartender ended up waiting on us and the waitress never came back to our table even though there were only 3 other tables seated at the resultant right now. Still haven't gotten our bill. Service sucks!! Follow up: the bill was $53. I have two gift cards one for $25 and one for $50 waitress comes back with $1 left on one and $19 left on the other. In what universe does that make any sense? Max one out and put the rest on the other!!! There is no system ever that would force it to work out that way she was the worst waitress ever! The two stars was for the food only. I am normally the biggest tipper ever I've been know to tip anywhere between 30% and 50% but she got zero I've never had such bad service ever. read more

We happened upon this lovely place on a recent trip to Mystic Seaport and we were really happy with our meal! Thai food is one of my favorite things and I am pretty obsessed with red curry so I try to have it from as many different places as possible. Quality, price, and portion size are major factors as to why Pink Basil met our needs for a great dinner! There were some yummy shrimp chips waiting for us as soon as we sat down, and we ordered a round of Thai iced teas right away to help cool us down from the day's ungodly heat. Unfortunately the restaurant was VERY VERY hot with no air conditioning in site and sweat was literally dripping from us through our meal. We drained our water glasses about 5 times during the meal and NOT from the spiciness. I had chicken red curry and my companion had a stir-fried noodle dish. Both were absolutely delicious, served piping hot and were a HUGE portion. We were more than satisfied that our food was so good for such a reasonable price point. Our only other major criticism is that the service was extremely slow. I might not have noticed this if it were not so hot in the restaurant but it took forever to get our food, at least 25 minutes and after we had eaten we waited a full 20 minutes for our server to bring us our check. We actually almost got up to ask for it because it took so long but we couldn't see our server anywhere, its as if she took her 20 minute break right in the middle of serving us. If they could get their climate control and staffing issues in check- this place could be a 5 star restaurant! read more

We had a very disappointing experience on January 2, 2022. We arrived for lunch @12:15, only one other couple in the restaurant. Our waitress took our order promptly. We ordered chicken teriyaki and shrimp teriyaki. We waited approximately 30 minutes before our food was served, and it was barely room temperature. We had our dishes sent back and they again were served not even warm. Our server did not come back to see how everything was, despite the fact that this was a re-do. We asked the person filling our water to please bring us our check. We placed our order and the second wait begins. We are out of water now. We again see staff working, and nothing for us. 15 minutes pass. No where is our waitress. I finally ask another waitress for more water. 10 more minutes pass. Here is our waitress! But no food. She mumbles something and says our food is almost ready. Off she goes. 5 more minutes we get our food. Now, we only ordered 2 entrees. And what we got, was not entirely what we ordered. The pad Thai had only noodles, no veggies. My Thai BBQ didn't have the listed ingredients on the menu either. My rice was served in a tiny bowl with plastic wrap on the rice. I had to unwrap the rice ball myself. We saw the waitress once when we were eating, but it was because she was walking by putting on her coat to go outside. Another waitress gave us our check quickly after we finished eating. My husband and I have been coming here for many years & pretty much order the same spicy duck/eggplant dish even though they forgot the eggplant this last time) It was during the busiest time I have ever seen Mystic Village. It is so good we don't want to try anything else. The spicy papaya salad (excellent) and the avocado salad (good but the amount of avocado seems to be a LOT less). Ordered take-out while visiting Mystic. Both the sushi rolls and the vegetable fried rice were very good. The spicy tuna tasted very fresh. I only wish they had one or two options for non-adventurous eaters. My husband is VERY picky, most sushi restaurants we visit have a basic steak or chicken dish so that I can drag him along with me, but since this one didn't, I had to opt for take-out and make a second stop for him. For what I paid for this meal, I also could've gotten twice as much sushi of the same grade and quality where I live. We ate here for our first meal when we first arrived in Mystic, and we ate here for our last meal on our way out :) The quality is excellent- surpassing the Thai restaurants in NYC. They give huge portions at a very reasonable price. Also, they have a good selection of keto and diet friendly options. We had Marianne as our waitress both times, and she is very friendly and welcoming. I look forward to returning again and trying more dishes! One person in our party is Vietnamese, and ordered the Pho which he enjoyed and found quite authentic. I ordered my usual, pad Thai, four stars (that's supposed to be extra spicy.) What I received was a pad Thai that was almost as good as what they serve at Thai Sawasdee but just more expensive. It tasted OK but was kind of bland, definitely not four star spice. I figured the inflated price was a reflection of their new Mystic location but I cannot account for the lack of flavor. I would rather drive a few minutes more to their old location in Groton and save a few bucks then spend more for the same (or worse) food with a Mystic price tag. read more

The food deserves credit, so I'm giving 2 stars because the chef shouldn't be penalized for the front of the house experience. The gyozas are probably the best I've had in a while and the garlic steak was really good. Unfortunately, it has horrible service no thanks to the lack of staff, just the inability to actually attend to customers. Food was delivered super delayed. Gyozas which are quickly made took easily 15 minutes to arrive... I think me looking for our waitress and nudging eye contact with her ignited her to remember she forgot to put them in or that they hadn't arrived. My water glass was never refilled. When the entrees finally arrived the poor lady serving us dropped the plates, told us she had to take another tables order and couldn't even clear the mess of appetizer plates and the dish because she was worried about anther table. (Mind you, there were servers sitting doing nothing around the restaurant.) Be sure to ask what they ACTUALLY have on the menu because their website states bimbimbap and they no longer serve it and practically ALL of the desserts were unavailable... the icing on the cake was that we were still not done eating or dismissed from the table and the other personnel start sweeping and cleaning around us, which just made it unappetizing and extremely uncomfortable to dine in. Got it- you want to go home but for being in the hospitality business, you made your guests feel nothing but the complete opposite. Had lunch there. The interior is nicely put together and the outside patios are nice. I ordered the duck roll which was quite tasty. You were given three duck rolls and they were very filling. Then I ordered a sushi roll. I asked for The Happiness Roll . After waiting 20 minutes they brought me a chicken and rice meal. Not what I asked for. The waitress either didn't understand much English and tried to tell me this is what I ordered. I then repeated my entire order and told her she got confused on the duck roll by asking me if I wanted chicken on the roll. I still think she had no clue what I ordered. Another gentleman came over and asked what I wanted and he said ok, he would make it. After another 15 minute wait I got my roll. There was no way I could use chopsticks to pick up the the slices. Great service for for us, but definitely saw alot of confusion and heard a lot of frustration among the waitstaff. The place got very busy and we saw many people complaining about how long things were taking, heard the waiters arguing, and witnessed 2 tables get up and leave. Came here on a Friday night in a party of 4 and it wasn't super busy which was nice. The hostess was not the most welcoming however once we sat down a cheerful waitress greeted us. We ordered the Kani salad, pad Thai with beef, pumpkin curry special, and the 4th noodle soup on the menu with tofu. The curry and noodle soup could definitely be shared between two people especially if you're planning on getting an appetizer. Everything was amazing! The pad Thai was one of the best I've ever had. The curry was a little on the sweet side but delicious. The noodle soup was probably my favorite I thought it was the perfect amount of sweet and savory with lots of dimension. Our bus tour made a quick stop here on the way to Cape Cod and some of the other food venues were a bit overwhelmed due to short staffing (a common complaint all over right now, unfortunately). Our server, Ann, was only too happy to quickly and cheerfully accommodate our party of 10 and the food was very good (home made noodles!) and the portions large. Twice now we've come here and it's such an issue to just get seated properly. 2 families of 4 and the greeter tried to sit us all in a booth meant for 6 when there's all sorts of tables available.... We ask if we can eat outside , and are told no because no tables are cleared ... nobody is outside eating, making all of them available ... so nobody could simply clean the tables off? I guess that's asking too much. We are seated and our table is given room temp water- no ice, this was not that big of a deal but it had us thinking, oh great we are about to get awful service. Which we did. Husband ordered 2 sushi rolls and was given 1 sushi and 1 sashimi which he doesn't even eat but when we asked about it on the menu prior to ordering the waiter led us to believe it was 2 chefs special sushi rolls... not the case- and the sushi roll special was a regular California roll!!! Is this a joke Lol. We Told the waiter who was MIA most of the time...by the time we got him our table was halfway through dinner . He just apologized and did not offer to correct the order. We wanted to order drinks but decided not to because of how slow and careless the service was. I'm sad we won't be coming back because it used to have the best pad Thai, drinks, and we would get the cool looking sushi boat before when family visits . They arrived on time and after another one hour wait we called our son and told him to get our money back. It may be a holiday weekend but a 2 hour wait is totally unacceptable.
