Visited pink basil during the cover pandemic for the first time. If you're not familiar with the area, it's located in the lovely Mystick village shopping center that has a lovely outdoor shops and a variety of other establishments and across the street from Mystic Aquarium. They had a very efficient online ordering system and pickup system. We ordered a variety of different sushi rolls, seared tuna salad, and Shrimp Teriyaki. Everything was very good! I don't love sushi that has a lot of rice, and this was on the heavier side. The seared tuna salad was very tasty, but did not come with any sort of dressing - not sure if this was a mistake or not since we took it to go. I ended up using some of the wasabi from the sushi to make a dip for the tuna. The teriyaki was quite tasty and served with steamed vegetables and red rice. The red rice was a unique twist I was not used to. The teriyaki was a but much -the shrimp and veggies were drowning in it - some people might like that , but is not my preference. Overall, I was happy with our first go-around with pink basil and will definitely be back. Came here after an afternoon of browsing the shops. Was a bit hesitant because I saw they had a few mixed reviews but everything we ordered was good. My bf ordered the pad Thai and he really enjoyed it, and I ordered the mee goreng noodles with beef. The portions are large and there was lots of beef added which was a nice change from some places that may give you two little pieces of beef and the rest is just noodles. They were fresh, spicy, and had a great umami quality. We also ordered the NYC sushi roll as an appetizer and it was pretty good but I feel like it was a bit tiny for the price. We arrived tonight before 6 pm and the restaurant had a few guests dining inside. we ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. the app came out quickly and then we sat and waited and watched the restaurant fill with many guests who received their food in a timely fashion and we waited and waited. the young server came over and let us know our food would come shortly that the kitchen was busy. the people around us who came much later were getting their meals as we waited.... An hour after we arrived a staff member came and apologized and asked if we wanted a complimentary drink which we declined. My husband walked out and I paid the tab for the app reluctantly as it was the right thing to do. they should have comped it and I wouldn't be writing this bad review. the server should have admitted he forgot to put in our order. No one goes here for good food. It is convenient, however, and portions are generous. That said, you can go here 3xs in one week, order the same dish, and it will be prepared differently each time. Service is idiosyncratic-- we've had very good young servers, a weird server who goes around singing jesus songs, and a plump older server who is smug, lazy and ignores you. Surprisingly this place is tucked in the Old Mistick Village area and it may be hard to find at first. We were fortunate enough to stumble upon this place and today was our second time. Amazingly awesome quality Thai food. All of the vegetables in our two noodle dishes (which you order spicy based on 1-2-3-4, etc.) were incredibly fresh. The waitress, her name escapes me, was very friendly to our little girl and even made her some chop sticks that made it easier for her to eat. I was so excited when I learned that this place was opening a location in Mystic. I finally was able to give it a try tonight and I did not leave disappointed. The atmosphere and ambiance is wonderful. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is superb. I had the pink basil noodles with shrimp (which is their version of drunken noodles) and it was fabulous. I also had 2 of their specialty sushi rolls and was very pleased. The sushi was made fresh to order by their on-site sushi chef. It was great. They also have two outdoor patios you could choose to dine on. One patio has seating right up to the sushi bar, the other has seating right up to the beverage bar. Great new place!!! read more

We didn't even get a chance to eat. We came here yesterday for dinner. There was a long line at the door but we decided we would wait. As they got closer inside, we realized they were there all together. A party of 12. We assumed the staff was putting tables together as we saw many employees walking by (some even had dr masks?) we waited about fifteen minutes when a guy in a blue shirt comes out and asks if they've been helped.. they said no?! What?? So he said it would be another 15-20 minutes until tables were ready. The restaurant literally had less than five customers... We left along with several other parties. Went for lunch the other day, everything was delicious. Started with a lychee martini which is one of my favorites and they perfected it. My friend had the coconut martini which was equally as delicious. We had the garlic edamame and the chicken lettuce cups as started. The edamame was out of this world, surprisingly not overly garlicky. The lettuce cups were awesome too. My only suggestion would be to use a traditional lettuce cup and not a piece of romaine. The romaine was difficult to pick up. It was easier to cut everything up and eat it as a salad. I had the signature wok entree with beef.. more than enough for three people to share. I had it the next day for lunch and still have quite a bit leftover. My friend had a couple sushi rolls, she said they were good but there was a little bit too much spicy Mayo on top. Usually it's just a drizzle, it was like how you pour gravy on mashed potatoes. Still good though. The restaurant participated in the CT Drinks On Us program which was cool, we had a free round of drinks because we are both vaccinated. Our server was Jessica. Since Thai is only second to Italian for my all time favorite types of food, I can be a bit of a snob. However, Pink Basil is the real deal. It's kind of difficult to find at night, tucked away in a village of similar restaurants/bars/shops in Mystic, CT, but it was definitely worth the drive/search. They have a huge selection of thai and sushi options. The ambiance is casual and the service is pleasant. I am always tempted to just order my old favorite pad thai, but instead I ordered a curry with tofu and brown rice. I don't even like spicy food, but the curry was fabulous. And the brown rice was so different from how rice normally is at asian restaurants. It's hard for me to describe, but the only way I can describe it is "heartier" and "richer." It's not that cardboard-like rice that feels made in an industrial sized rice cooker in the back. The portion sizes are also very big. The food came out quickly. I took off one star because even though we had reservations, we had to wait around 15 minutes to be seated. Also, the specialty cocktail selection was poor. But I absolutely will come back and look forward to the summer when I find myself in Mystic more often! read more

Had a very weird experience here. My waiter was not good - plain and simply. He forgot to take our order, barely checked on us, and kind of forgot about us altogether - I don't think it was on purpose. I think he was too overwhelmed. Maybe this was his first day or first waiting job - not entirely sure. The food was pretty good, but I was surprised by the very high prices - especially for the sushi. This has to have been the best meal I've had in a while! I got the Crispy Hainanese Chicken which was perfectly crispy and not too greasy. The rice served underneath was so delicious that my husband kept sneaking forkfuls! My husband ordered the Beef Hor Fun Noodles which was so delicious that he had to finish it! I tried a few bites and I might order it the next time we go. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was out rather quickly. I don't understand why people think the prices are high as they are on the low end for that area of Mystic (tourist area means higher prices). We dined there last night was very hot and humid on back patio. Other restaurants had dining inside, they would not let us in to go to the bathroom. We were unaware that we would be eating outside but stayed anyway. Food was poor quality sushi, they served us on paper plates, plastic cups and packets of soy sauce. Rolls were not that good, sushi was very bland no crunch to spicy crunchy rolls and hot spice overpowering. The lettuce wraps were served with wrong lettuce and made a mess. An afternoon in Mystic isn't complete without trying one of the many eateries in the town, by the seaport or by the aquarium. This time we stopped at Pink Basil after shopping by the aquarium. Overall I would say that if you like spicy stuff and feel like you always need to ask for more spice to satisfy your desires Pink Basil might be for you. We ordered two dishes that were advertised as spicy and we were very impressed that they were flavorful and spicy enough just as ordered. For others who want non spicy you will also be fine. We started with a trio of appetizers including Lettuce wraps, potstickers, Edamame and an order of wings with orange sauce. All were great and the orange sauce was sweet with a little late hot to it. We had a Godzilla role - fresh and tasty. We also had a special order version of their Pineapple fried rice without onions and without the curry. It was nice with fresh pineapple chunks. I ordered the Hot this season from the "diet" menu GF,non dairy. It was chicken with veggies in a spicy brown sauce. No rice, or other starch. It was really good. My wife and I have been here many times and each time we have a great experience. The sushi is out of this world. (Try the Drawbridge roll). Word to the wise though, the wasabi is extra hot. My wife likes it but I usually leave it out. The service was excellent, they were all super friendly and attentive but not pushy. Sitting out on the back patio during a rain storm under the canopy was a nice touch. Bonus points for having beer on tap. The food was so overpriced and tasteless that we will never get food from there again. They should be embarrassed for charging $19 for a sushi roll that was the only the size of a toilet paper roll. Don't not go here if you are a person of color or any other marginalized identity !!! We were seated and all around us people were being help and taken care of. We were ignored blantantly!!! They wasted 30 minutes of our time waiting for them to simply take our order they never took our order. We were seated in the middle of the room and they walked by and all around the staff looked directly at us and just kept helping others. We were dressed fine not slovenly! They should have turned us away at the door and tell us our kind is not welcome!! That would have been better. We left they didn't care. Don't spend your hard earned money here! It's with a heavy heart that I write this. This place was a favorite. While the food has suffered lately, the reason for my rating has to do with the lack of care. They just don't seem to want customers anymore. I thought the time before was an anomaly, but this last time made it abundantly clear, they would prefer that you just ordered from someplace else. I'm not fussy. I don't ask for anything made special. I just ask that you give me what I ordered (not something you deemed a suitable replacement) and paid for and that it bears some resemblance to the same dish I had prior.
