If I could give Pink Basil zero stars, I would. My order was given to another customer and by the time that person got home and called me, I had been waiting for more than an hour outside in the freezing cold. Couldn't call the restaurant (only allow on line ordering) and no one would open the door. Finally got a person to listen to me, they remade the order, and when I got home and unpacked it....BAM, wrong food. I am so disappointed and angry that I paid $60 for an order I didn't receive. I frequent this place often as I work nearby, food has always been delicious but it is often inconsistent. Sometimes wonton soup has bean sprouts sometimes not, other times my noodles are missing an ingredient etc. My main annoyance is with the phones. Our office often calls during lunch, but most of the time we have to call 4-5 times before we're able to get thru. Sometimes it just rings to voicemail, other times it's a busy signal, other times it takes like 10 rings for a pickup. I'd advise to please work on the phones, as while we call back various times until we're able to connect, I doubt others do. Located in the adorable Mystic Village, this Thai spot has two beautiful patios. Service was fantastic and the manager stopped by our table twice to ask how we were enjoying our food. This place is hard to find for a non-local, but we are glad we made it! I normally like my Thai food native, but went medium on this visit. The flavor in my curry was excellent, and not bland at all. Over the past year or so they changed bartenders and maybe management "I hope" but things have changed. First of the bartender is like a deer in headlights, can't multitask, and basically has no customer service skills whatsoever. My experience tonight (which does not reflect the past recent experiences ) was atrocious. I arrived about 7pm and greeted by the hostess who was very pleasant but I stated I was hoping to goto the bar to grab a drink and order some food to go. When I arrived at the bar the Bartender was already in the weeds (from the 4 people at the bar) and frantically running around. He finally approached me and I stated I wanted to get a drink and something to go and the reply was astounding. First off, he told me that it would be at least an hour for that. Proceeded to run into the kitchen frantically and come back out to confirm that. (1 hour for chicken pad Thai to go). First off the place is small in the winter due to half the seating being outside and maybe 40 or so seats inside. The place was busy but no wait line or customers crowding in the door so I just don't get it. I'm sorry. Use to love the service and still love the food from this place but for some reason in the past year or so things have declined. The guy behind the bar has absolutely no clue what he is doing. Been there a few times with OK experiences, mediocre at best. This time was horrible service. Called and made reservations for Valentine's Day, confirmed call with time, name and phone#. When I arrived no reservation, nothing written down. Host responded "we usually have a paper we write these down on" you think? So we waited, and waited and waited some more. If I could give this place -5 stars, I would. I had never been to this place before and I do not think I will be going back. My friend and I walked in on a Tuesday evening around 6. The restaurant was basically empty and the waitresses and waiters seemed to have no want to work or be there that evening. This is understandable considering sometimes people have bad days. Well, there was a woman in line with her children in front of us. Then, a couple and their children, as well as a dog, walked into the restaurant behind us. Everyone was seated in a reasonable amount of time BUT my friend and I were not. We continued to wait as other guests came in to pick up their takeout, walk around the restaurant, and be seated as well. We were standing right in front of the waitress stand as well so it was not as if we were out of the way or out of sight. We waited upward of a half hour to be seated. The woman that seated us was very nice, but did take her time finally getting around to helping us. After we were seated, we waited almost twenty minutes for our waitress to ask us if we would like anything to drink. And another ten minutes to ask for our order. We inquired about substituting rice and meats in the meals due to preferences but we were told it was not possible. We were also told we could not order the meat dishes separately, which doesn't make much sense unless all the food is frozen together prior to serving. The waitress did not seem to know much about the menu and had an attitude when we were simply asking about the foods. We then asked about portion sizes and were told the sizes were not suitable for my friend and myself. This threw us off quite a bit, especially after all of the waiting and attitude we had endured. We ultimately left before ordering anything and found a different place to eat. I would not suggest this restaurant to anyone nor will I be coming back. On the plus side, the restaurant location is great, right next to the aquarium! It is also decorated in a cute fashion with both inside and outside dining, which is a plus. I absolutely love the food at Pink Basil, especially the VEGETABLE PHO SOUP and the SWEET AND SOUR TOFU. The plates of food always look so attractive! What I don't like about Pink Basil is the TERRIBLE SERVERS and the DISAPPOINTING WAY THEY HANDLE CUSTOMER PROBLEMS!!! My husband, daughter, and I ordered takeout from Pink Basil on October 17, 2022. My husband ordered the CANTONESE NOODLES. When we sat down to eat dinner, my husband realized that he just had a big bowl of gravy. The waitress who got our order together forgot his noodles. We tried to call 3 times, but no one picked up the phone. My husband had to get dressed, after already getting his shower, and drive 15 minutes to get the noodles for his meal. THE WAITRESS ACTED LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL, AND DIDN'T EVEN OFFER TO COMP HIS MEAL. Most restaurants would have comped the entire bill. My husband was really upset with how the female server handled her mistake! The next day my daughter and I had lunch at Pink Basil in order to speak with the manager. After we were done eating, we asked our waitress (who was the one who forgot my husband's noodles) to speak with the manager. She said that she was the manager and could not comp my husband's meal. I explained that we live in Pittsburgh, and he only travels there for meetings and audits. I CALLED 5 TIMES, ASKING TO SPEAK WITH THE OWNER. He was never in, when I called, so I left my phone number with a male server, but the owner never returned my call. My husband's company in Mystic, CT orders all of their meals for work meetings and audits from Pink Basil. The staff was very friendly and they even have a dedicated gluten free menu which is great for people with that kind of intolerance. Had lunch there yesterday (Veterans Day) at approximately 1pm. Besides my party of 4, there was maybe two other tables of customers. The food was good, no complaints. Unfortunately I cannot say that about the service. The person that seated us seemed like he would rather have been anywhere else besides there, he never said two words to us as he brought us to the table. After quite a wait, someone finally came to take our order. Two of us ordered drinks at the same time we ordered food, as no one came over to take a drink order. 23 minutes later our drinks finally came. Again, the place was empty. My daughter ordered a sushi dish, and being sat right next to the sushi station we were able to see that her order was complete and sitting there for 15-20 minutes before it was brought to us. I ordered three rolls of sushi, a Philly, a Boston and the "Old Mystic Village Roll" which was basically a fancy Sakura Roll with spicy mayo and eel sauce. The Boston Roll was far too salty. I could tell the shrimp was cheap and previously frozen. The mayo on top of the roll was unbelievably salty. I was floored. The Village Roll was about $14.00 or so and I ate one piece. It was TERRIBLE. The shrimp tempura inside was so crunchy it might as well had no shrimp inside. Of that entire roll two other pieces were eaten and those were my friends. They both agreed as well.
