Went for lunch on a Thursday with a party of 3. The food and portions were good but the service is really in shambles. After about 10 minutes the hostess dropped by our table to ask if anyone had taken our order. We said "no" and she disappeared. 10 minutes later I had to stand up and hunt down our waitress. But let's get away from that and on to my food, the prawn chips weren't served with any dipping sauce, my drink wasn't anything to write home about, and my chicken entree was made with a particularly fatty piece of thigh meat. We walked into the Pink Basil with another couple, there was no hostess to seat us and even acknowledge us for what seemed like quite a while.. We finally brought it to someone's attention and they said as soon as the tables are cleaned off outside on the back patio they will seat us. Well the table was still filthy and wet I moved my menu out of the way as we let them know so they could clean the table at that point I realized the menu had some sauce all over it and it dripped all onto my pants if it was just myself and my boyfriend we would of left but we were with another couple. We had the chicken satay app which was tasty and I had the Pho it was ok but there was barely any beef in it and my boyfriends meal barbecue beef was totally over cooked and the meat was dry our friend orderd something that had no chili signs next to it which represents spiciness and it was very spicy and my boyfriends had 1 chili next to his item and it had barely any spice., so it was very inconsistent... we will not be going back to Pink Basil again, the servers and bussers need to be all re trained. read more

If I could give Pink Basil zero stars, I would. My order was given to another customer and by the time that person got home and called me, I had been waiting for more than an hour outside in the freezing cold. Couldn't call the restaurant (only allow on line ordering) and no one would open the door. Finally got a person to listen to me, they remade the order, and when I got home and unpacked it....BAM, wrong food. I am so disappointed and angry that I paid $60 for an order I didn't receive. I frequent this place often as I work nearby, food has always been delicious but it is often inconsistent. Sometimes wonton soup has bean sprouts sometimes not, other times my noodles are missing an ingredient etc. My main annoyance is with the phones. Our office often calls during lunch, but most of the time we have to call 4-5 times before we're able to get thru. Sometimes it just rings to voicemail, other times it's a busy signal, other times it takes like 10 rings for a pickup. I'd advise to please work on the phones, as while we call back various times until we're able to connect, I doubt others do. Otherwise we've tried multiple menu items thru takeout and they have always been fresh and tasty!! read more

Over the past year or so they changed bartenders and maybe management "I hope" but things have changed. First of the bartender is like a deer in headlights, can't multitask, and basically has no customer service skills whatsoever. My experience tonight (which does not reflect the past recent experiences ) was atrocious. I arrived about 7pm and greeted by the hostess who was very pleasant but I stated I was hoping to goto the bar to grab a drink and order some food to go. When I arrived at the bar the Bartender was already in the weeds (from the 4 people at the bar) and frantically running around. He finally approached me and I stated I wanted to get a drink and something to go and the reply was astounding. First off, he told me that it would be at least an hour for that. Proceeded to run into the kitchen frantically and come back out to confirm that. (1 hour for chicken pad Thai to go). First off the place is small in the winter due to half the seating being outside and maybe 40 or so seats inside. The place was busy but no wait line or customers crowding in the door so I just don't get it. I'm sorry. Use to love the service and still love the food from this place but for some reason in the past year or so things have declined. The guy behind the bar has absolutely no clue what he is doing. The food is still amazing. Management has lost touch on what's going on spare I have to say I went back tonight and things were amazing as they usually have been. I did not care for the shrimp tempura, but I don't know why. Maybe something with the breading. The soup was ok. Been there a few times with OK experiences, mediocre at best. This time was horrible service. Called and made reservations for Valentine's Day, confirmed call with time, name and phone#. When I arrived no reservation, nothing written down. Host responded "we usually have a paper we write these down on" you think? So we waited, and waited and waited some more. While waiting we took notice of all of the dirty tables and general uncleanliness. The young staff was to busy eating, joking and laughing to clean a table and sit customers who had reservations. Finally they call us and try to jam us into a tiny table while there was a booth available. I asked for the booth and was told it's not clean. If I could give this place -5 stars, I would. I had never been to this place before and I do not think I will be going back. My friend and I walked in on a Tuesday evening around 6. The restaurant was basically empty and the waitresses and waiters seemed to have no want to work or be there that evening. This is understandable considering sometimes people have bad days. Well, there was a woman in line with her children in front of us. Then, a couple and their children, as well as a dog, walked into the restaurant behind us. Everyone was seated in a reasonable amount of time BUT my friend and I were not. We continued to wait as other guests came in to pick up their takeout, walk around the restaurant, and be seated as well. We were standing right in front of the waitress stand as well so it was not as if we were out of the way or out of sight. We waited upward of a half hour to be seated. The woman that seated us was very nice, but did take her time finally getting around to helping us. After we were seated, we waited almost twenty minutes for our waitress to ask us if we would like anything to drink. And another ten minutes to ask for our order. We inquired about substituting rice and meats in the meals due to preferences but we were told it was not possible. We were also told we could not order the meat dishes separately, which doesn't make much sense unless all the food is frozen together prior to serving. The waitress did not seem to know much about the menu and had an attitude when we were simply asking about the foods. We then asked about portion sizes and were told the sizes were not suitable for my friend and myself. This threw us off quite a bit, especially after all of the waiting and attitude we had endured. We ultimately left before ordering anything and found a different place to eat. I would not suggest this restaurant to anyone nor will I be coming back. On the plus side, the restaurant location is great, right next to the aquarium! It is also decorated in a cute fashion with both inside and outside dining, which is a plus. Had lunch there yesterday (Veterans Day) at approximately 1pm. Besides my party of 4, there was maybe two other tables of customers. The food was good, no complaints. Unfortunately I cannot say that about the service. The person that seated us seemed like he would rather have been anywhere else besides there, he never said two words to us as he brought us to the table. After quite a wait, someone finally came to take our order. Two of us ordered drinks at the same time we ordered food, as no one came over to take a drink order. 23 minutes later our drinks finally came. Again, the place was empty. The employees were standing around on their phones. We then had to wait an extreme long time for our food to arrive after we finally got our drinks. My daughter ordered a sushi dish, and being sat right next to the sushi station we were able to see that her order was complete and sitting there for 15-20 minutes before it was brought to us. No one ordered anything difficult, 2 orders of soup, one Pad Thai and one sushi roll. Even though the food was good, I will not being going back. He was never in, when I called, so I left my phone number with a male server, but the owner never returned my call. My husband's company in Mystic, CT orders all of their meals for work meetings and audits from Pink Basil. THEY WILL NO LONGER ORDER FOOD FROM PINK BASIL UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED, and by resolved, I MEAN THAT MY HUSBAND WILL RECEIVE A CREDIT FOR THE NOODLE-LESS CANTONESE NOODLE MEAL!!!
