Was on the way to Mendocino and made a pit stop midway. Drove into a random plaza and spotted this coffee shop. We decided to grab some coffees and breakfast sandwiches to fuel up and it was delicious, definitely hit the spot. Vanilla latte was smooth and creamy and the drip coffee was excellent. The breakfast sandwiches are easy and simple (appears to be Costco croissants), nothing to rave about but still good. The menu is quite extensive and the self ordering kiosks are a little confusing, so I would just skip that and go order at the counter. All in all, good stop and great ambience/fun decor. read more

Sometimes I go here and pay for parking instead of going to the other location in San Rafael, just because it's a better people watching spot, has great light, is more spacious, etc. It's in pretty good condition, the bathroom could be nicer, though. Popped into Pink Owl for the 1st time on a Tues late morning and this place is definitely made for folks who work remotely or want to study. It's got great decor lots of outlets all over the cafe and a decent amount of seating areas like couches or regular cafe tables. If I lived nearby I'd definitely add it to my go to list of places to work/study. The staff were super warm and welcoming too. I got a matcha strawberry latte w/ almond milk which was tasty! You could tell the matcha was legit vs the premade things as the earthy matcha flavor was strong and not watered down. We also got a pastry which hit the spot. One note: parking could be tough as it's street parking but there is a parking garage on 5th street & A st, if street parking gets tough. read more

The downtown Pink Owl location has the better atmosphere, is bigger, and has light food options. However the other location has more available parking. Interior is hip and stylish, with lots of plants, dim lights, and usually disco music. There are plenty of non-coffee options, as well as some rotating fun coffee options with their seasonal specials. I recently got a Turkish delight oat latte, which was delicious and the right kind of sweet. Plenty of seating, with options on couch comfy/pillow seating and more serious booth or chair seating. There is also a lot of merchandise, including beans, mugs, and misc gifts. The coffee shop has WiFi and plenty of power outlets on tables, so it's a great place to get some work or studying done. However, the music is too loud if you happen to find the need for an emergency conference call. read more

I was in town visiting. While I was in downtown San Rafael, I was looking for a quick bite and coffee for breakfast. I dropped into the Pink Owl. It was my first ever visit. The staff was outstanding. Engaging and helpful. The bagel was good but the chocolate muffin was out of this world delicious. However, my chai latte fell flat. It was lacking a creaminess and deep tea and spice flavor. Besides coffee drinks the menu includes baked items, bagels $5.75, toasts $12-15 and sandwiches $15. The chocolate muffin was big and plump. Moist. Chocolaty but not overly sweet. The chai latte, as I mentioned before, missed the mark. But hey this place is a coffee haus not a bakery. From the outside, the place has a modern bohemian charm. The patio furniture was a bold teal color and the painted pink owl in the window was quirky. The inside was just as charming. They had tables and chairs, cushy sofas and plush reading chairs, with lots of USB ports and outlets scattered about. The vibe was lively and chill with a diverse bunch. read more

I love all the pink, it's so pretty. This is the only café I know of that has a violet latte which I usually get. There are 2 locations in San Rafael. This one is in the heart of downtown, is bigger, and has a food menu and the other one is better for stopping in to get something on the way to somewhere because it has a parking lot. This one is more suited for the sitting in a café experience. Be sure to let the counter know you are staying in to get a mug instead of a paper cup because they can get forgetful at asking. read more

On a work-from-home day, I chose to come here with my companion to work and it was the idyllic spot. There's no shortage of the color pink or owls here! People of all ages come here and it seems like a well loved spot. Service by the barista was okay, not friendly but not unfriendly. Our drinks came out fairly quickly which was nice. Aside from typical cafe drinks including coffee and tea, they also have seasonal specialties. I had the Sunrise Strawberry Matcha with Oat Milk. It was decadent, had a hint of sweetness, and both the strawberry and matcha flavors were prevalent. My companion had the Lavender Flower Power Matcha Latte with Oat Milk. I enjoyed his which was slightly floral. New to the area, I'm not familiar with the cafe scenes in San Rafael, but I'm a fan of Pink Owl for their drinks and spacious setup. Came here on a Thursday morning before work. This isn't really my vibe or style for a coffee shop, but plenty of people working/studying. I ordered an Iced vanilla latte with oat milk through the ordering screen because there was only one worker making hella drinks/food. It took almost 15 minutes for my drink to come out. Okay but why was my small drink $10??? It was so small I finished in 5 minutes. The latte flavor was really good and not too sweet, but for the size, I would not pay this amount again. read more

Best lattes in town! I love all of the customizations and flavors available, the pistachio syrup is so good! I love the pistachio latte,with brown sugar, sweet cream, and cold foam. I really don't like writing negative reviews, but this needs to be addressed. I used to be a restaurant manager, so I understand the importance of cleanliness in a food establishment. I recently visited the San Rafael 4th Street location and used the bathroom--it was absolutely disgusting. The bathroom reeked, there were no toilet seat covers, and grime and dirt were caked around the sink and faucet. The mirrors were scratched up, and the toilet's water tank had a cover that didn't even fit properly. There also was a yellow caution wet floor cone stored in there that was filthy. This is a food facility--if the bathroom is in this condition, I can't help but wonder about the state of the kitchen. I brought it up with a barista, and her response was: "Oh, I know. We clean the toilet every day, but the rest isn't done, and I already had many conversations with Joe the owner about it. The employee bathroom isn't much better." She even said I should contact the owner - well maybe a Yelp review will get his attention. Really?! Get a professional cleaner in there nightly--this is completely unacceptable. read more

This is my absolute favorite coffee shop in Marin County. The drinks are piping hot and the flavors of the roast are dark, nutty and rich. The oat milk latte is my jam; served perfectly hot with a balanced blend of well-steamed oat milk. And the Elvis sandwich, with a generous smear of nut butter, bananas, and bacon, is a well deserved treat. The staff is friendly and attentive, including their long-time barista, Gemma, who greets me by name and a warm smile with every visit. The owners, Joe and Sandra, are equally welcoming with a warm smile and a friendly chat. I especially like the laid back vibe of Pink Owl. The music is good. The staff is awesome.
