I'm the last person in No Cal to try Java Hut, but I'll be a regular after my first visit. Why, especially since neither my husband nor I drink anything with coffee in it? 1) great, friendly service; 2) incredible lemonade; 3) perfect ice tea even late on a Saturday; and, 4) it's fun. Drive thru is easy and walk up is even more fun since you can see how clean and well organized the shop is. I dislike running errands and will now treat myself to an ice tea on my way home. I have come here multiple times a week for about a year now. It is amazing...the service is top notch and the beverages and baked goods are delicious and fresh. My son loves the breakfast sandwiches and claims they have the best hot chocolate. My favorite is the blueberry muffin and a chai latte with vanilla. My dog is senile and barely remembers me but remembers Java hut and the friendly staff every time we so much as drive by. I meet friends here after school drop off or drive thru and get it to go (perfect on a lazy or cozy day). I'm happy to support this local business! read more

It's all about the service here. The point of drive-thru coffee is convenience, right? (And coffee). And somehow Java Hut managed to make this convenience even more convenient. I drove up for the first time the other day. I had maybe one or two cars ahead of me. And an employee (or maybe even the owner) came up to my window to take my order, then brought it out and took my cash before I even made it to the order window! And on top of that, he gave me a dog treat for my dog, who was sitting in the passenger's seat. And not your run-of-the-mill milk bone, but a real, meaty jerky treat. I try to find places with walk up windows, since I pretty much always have my little dog with me (plus I still avoid bringing my not-yet-eligible-for-vaccination 3 year old to indoors spaces), so I was particularly pleased to see that Java Hut also has a walk-up window with pleasant looking covered patio seating. Coffee is Starbucks equivalent, I think, so not, say, Equator or Ritual, but a nicer, more pleasant, convenient, and local experience than Starbucks. And we enjoyed the scone! read more

I love Java Hut. As one of the handful or so drive thru businesses in Marin, it is pretty easy to spot if you're driving to Fairfax. In the same parking lot as the Good Earth grocery store, Java Hut maintain four service windows and a walk up area to keep things moving for customers. The young people who work there are friendly, and they always get my order right. Their breakfast burritos are good, and so are the drinks. The matcha is delicious. The blendeds are a treat. The Americanos are nice and strong. I'll be by anytime I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I've been getting drip coffee, easiest item on the menu, from here for many years. But in the past few years the service leaves a lot to be desired. Only men have been working here (used to be all women), and since then I am not given my change but asked IF I want my change. I pay cash like they used to require, now my money is being held hostage by men who seek to use embarrassment tactics to get tips. Even when I use a card, I'm asked if I want to tip almost before it leaves my hand. It bothers me to think they are probably very successful at doing so with people that order more complicated drinks who don't want to feel awkward in that situation. I shouldn't have to have a weird conversation to get MY change back. Do you really think you deserve a tip when you just poured coffee and cream in a cup, didn't smile or be friendly, straight faced offered my dogs treats when you've obviously been told to do so? Stop intimidating customers with confrontation to get tips you don't deserve. read more

Had an odd experience here yesterday. My bf and I were headed back to the east bay after trekking Mt. Tam and needed some caffeine for the ride back. We wanted to try someplace local. Remembering this cute little drive-thru/ coffee stand from earlier, we yelped it and stopped by. We pulled up to the drive-thru window and took a minute to scope the menu. There was a lady who looked busy in the first window, but didn't look up or acknowledge us, so we maybe thought it was closed and pulled up to the second one. After waiting there for another minute, confused about if they were open altogether or not (it was 6pm, yelp said they closed at 7pm), a man hesitantly slid open the door asking for our order. We decided on a drip coffee and chai. He told us the espresso machine was already off for the day, but that he could make us iced coffee for free. I'm not much of a fan of ice coffee, so we settled for one. And that was that. We thought the whole interaction felt weird even with the free iced coffee that neither of us really wanted. It tasted ok (I mean, it was free so whatever), but I wouldn't return or recommend. We should've just went to Starbucks. read more

Definitely a friendly, competent stop for your quick caffeine needs! However, since I am not able to drink caffeinated coffee (sad. I know. But I love me the taste of some bean juice!) I have to get decaf and the choices were sadly lacking at around 9am on a Sunday. All I wanted was a drip decaf with cream. But I had to settle for a shot of Americano. My cup of coffee was hot, but the taste was truly ho-hum. Like, actually, less than ho-hum. Maybe just a "hum". It might have been the least impressive cup of coffee that I've had in a couple of years. I've had better coffee drinking my grandfather's freeze dried Sanka. It wasn't bitter. But it wasn't smooth. It tasted old. Next time I'm out and about I think I'll try another place for my non-caffeinated fake coffee needs. But hey! A great group of people work here! Friendly and fast! This cafe is run by young people who are very kind, but apparently unable to keep large groups without masks from hanging out in violation of Shelter In Place. SEVERAL times during this pandemic I've gone to buy drinks from here, and had to squeeze past or go around these groups that were blocking the ordering window. Stopped here for a coffee during a ride. The young man helping me was solid. I ordered an espresso based on my confidence in his focus on the topic of espresso. It was served in paper cup which we can't change and it was absolutely delicious. It is the perfect setting. We talked with a chill local cyclist and we were protected from drizzle on the patio. The young people who work here are great and helpful. They are probably over worked and under paid. They get 5 stars. The coffee is not that great for what you pay. Breakfast burritos are just okay. Drive thru is nice but can be a wait in the mornings during the week. There is often a cycling group of judgmental middle aged men ogling the young women who work there. Finally, the architecture of the Java Hut is just doesn't fit in the Fairfax vibe IMO. Just saying. Fairfax has many good coffee options available. Big fan of this little spot! The coffee is always good, the lattes are good, the pastries are fine if you're into pastries. I LOVE the fact that I can drive right up and order. I don't have a lot of time in the mornings so this works great. The girls are adorable, and not in an annoying/too cool for school/snobby sort of way. They are all naturally pretty in their own ways, very sweet and always greet you with a smile. They also always notice my little dog and offer to give him a treat with my coffee. The only down side is the cups are small. The medium is what you would expect for a small and the small isn't much bigger than an espresso cup. BUT, if you bring your own cup it's $1 for a refill no matter what size!! It makes me bring my own cup and saves trees in the long run :) read more

I am not a regular coffee drink, I perfer I good sugary fountain coke for my source of caffeine. I am trying to stop drinking coke so I am turning to coffee. Not only are the people genuine and nice, they go out of there way to accurately describe what you are getting. I tried the medium mocha for $2.75 plus a $1 tip(due to the fact that I wanted to look at the menu and took forever to order). Let me tell you what a good drink they made! Go Java hut girls! This is the most consistently good coffee I've had in our area. They use a full creamy soymilk with no crap sweeteners in it so my lattes always taste great. If you are a fan of the very strong (like Peets) latte experience get a double shot. The coffee was not bad but all of the workers were super rude and gave us attitude from the second we walked in. None of the women or the one man working there were wearing masks, and they definitely gave our small group in our masks dirty looks. They seemed annoyed when we asked questions, never smiled, didn't greet us, and gave one word answers. Bad vibe and wouldn't go again. We are from Oregon so we still tipped, but now we all regret it‍. Also, no vegan options. read more

What do you usually expect from a drive in? Boring service, mediocre coffee good enough to give you the caffeine buzz. Well not here. Extremely pleasant staff, working with great mood and smile. It is obvious that they like what they do. And they like when you like what they do. And I do. I think coffee was more then OK (I am a very strict coffee fanatic). Coffee had slight over roasted tones, but nothing significant. Most people will not notice.
