Happy hour specials brag of half price appetizers which, unfortunately, are half size as well. Food quality better than average but service was amateur, almost non-existent. The kids were in town so we all went bowling. Pinstripes provides a great comfy atmosphere, a good selection of balls of all sizes, and table service, which is convenient if not economical. It accepts and honors reservations, which is a big plus during holiday periods. Everything about pinstripes feels new and well-maintained (I can think of bowing alleys where I said a silent prayer before putting on their disgusting bowling shoes--not here!) The crowd was mixed age-wise (not all divorced dads and their kids). The mechanicals are all up to date and in good working order. My only issue is you pay for all of the above. This is not your grandmother's neighborhood bowling alley. Bet heck, the economy is good so enjoy. read more

I have been going to the Nortbrook Pinstripes location since its opening in 2007, but for some reason did not write a review until now. In my experience, food and service at Pinstripes has been consistently good and if you check in on Yelp, you can get a free gelato or sorbet. Besides bowling and Bocce games, my kids really like their kids meals and desserts. Their favorite dessert is green apple sorbet while my favorite is a glass of wine from a great selection of wine especially during the warm summer nights sitting at their outdoor patio. We picked this restaurant for a small event (25 guests) because of the food and the bowling. We had a excellent server (Nathan) who was wonderfully attentive to all my guests. My problem with them is that my bill (which is due before the event) did not include gratuity for Nathan but a 22.5% service charge for the event coordinator. Pinstripes always has such a fun and lively atmosphere! In addition to dining, it also has bowling. My favorite are the pizza margherita, the chicken flatbread. Their pasta is also delicious and this time I had the roasted cauliflower which was superb. The bread that they give you before your entrees is incredible as well. The waiters are always very nice. If you have a pinstripes wristband you are eligible to get a free dessert!! their gelato is definitely worth it and very tasty to share with a friend. The burger here is also good!! Great fries too. I have to give Pinstripes a Woohoo! as a family fun joint...well, it is perhaps a bit too upscale to call it a joint. Anyhoo, my brother along with his wife and four boys (16, 14, 12, and 9) came into town for a visit from San Diego. My septuagenarian parents, single Chicago brother, single me and SD bro's clan went to Pinstripes for dinner and fun and it really was such a fantastic experience. The menu appealed to everyone, serving up traditional italian dishes with some twists to keep it interesting. Even the cocktails had some interesting twists. I love me a margarita and tried the italian margarita (it had cherry juice in it). The service was really spot on. The staff was friendly and informative with really great timing. I didn't see the final bill but my dad told me he expected to pay much, much more. For the fun, there is bowling and bocce ball. We were leaning towards the bocce ball yet ended up with the bowling and what fun! (A shocking statement from me who has OCD with a particularly mean desire to wash my hands excessively) The alleys and booths were all very clean as were the balls...and they didn't make me wear the shoes! The Co-Workers and I frequented Pinstripes during our extended project in Deerfield last March. This is a great place to spend time with friends and family. You can choose bowling or bocce ball (which we picked every time since bowling was always booked). The food and bar drinks are good. The wine list is pretty good. We always had a fun time here though. I would say.....go here for the fun and don't be too critical of the food. It's pretty good....not awesome.... but so much better than other fun, bowling places. read more

Pinstripes has been one of my favorite go to places. Wether for a party, bowling, bocce, or just a drink. Have always loved it. The staff is always more than pleasant. We supported Pinstripes throughout the Pandemic. Today we walked in as we normally would and were told we could not sit outside, as we did not have a reservation. I enquired to sit at the fire pit area and this was acceptable, however almost unbeknownst to the hostess that this was even a possibility. It was astonishing that the outdoor area was less than half full when we arrived and continued to be so throughout our stay of an hour or so. I cannot tell you how many times we have sat in this area by choice and have enjoyed ourselves particularly around a fire. On this occasion, we appeared to be shunned and eventually I had to get up to the bar to get 2 glasses of wine. The bar staff is superb as always. Ordering food was less difficult and so tasty! The Brussel sprouts are outstanding. Never received any water. How hard is that? The waitstaff was oblivious to their surroundings and need some serious training. Of course, I had to get up again to get my check and let's not forget my to go box that I asked for twice. Good grief! Get it together Pinstripes. So many other places to go. read more

Visited Northbrook location this Sunday for "Bloody Mary Brunch". Had a big party reservation and when seated were told that they are out of Bloody Mary mix during Noon hour of Bloody Mary Brunch. Really nice folks and a fun venue, but the food is awful. Bland, overcooked, and vastly under seasoned only begin to describe the atrocities committed against what were surely innocent pastas and meat. We attended a function where there were catered lunches provided for the guests; I ended up with lasagna in the box, a slice of garlic bread, a cookie, and a salad. The salad was fine - a too large lump of what seemed to be ricotta over lettuce and some vegetables. The corn and chickpeas and kalamata together was an odd pairing, but not terrible. That said, the vinaigrette was obnoxiously cloying and sweet. Whether purchased or bought by them, I can't say, but the sweetness made it near inedible. There needs to be a lesson here on acid and salt applied to this dressing to bring it to a edible balance. The lasagna, though, had to have been one of the worst I've ever had...and let me tell you, I've eaten my mother's cooking growing up. This was way worse. The meat lasagna was again so bland and unbalanced as to be un-consumable. It was mostly ricotta, bound together with a couple sheets of overcooked and mushy pasta, with more cheese melted on top. The meat and tomato sauce was as flavorless as they come, lacking salt and lacking any hint of either spices (basil? Oregano? Garlic? Do these names mean anything to the cook?) or umami... I'm wondering it the cook ever learned to brown meat or salt his meals progressively. There was no hint that any Maillard reaction took place to bring savory flavors into the meat. Junior high sloppy Joes taste better than that attempt at a sauce. Seriously one of the saddest dishes I've had in years and years. The Cookie in the Box. Not sure what it was supposed to be, honestly. It looked like a snickerdoodle. Someone else at the table said chocolate chip. If so, that's the saddest attempt to make a chocolate chip I've ever seen. My friend's six year old knows chocolate chips...and was not fooled by whatever this thing was. Anyway - staff great. Enjoyed the venue when I've been there for fun. Nice place. But the food? Hard pass...been an awful long time since I've seen stuff executed this poorly. read more

This is my weekly lunchtime gathering place for my two college buddies and me. The food and service are consistently good, which makes us consistently happy, and consistent patrons of this establishment. The lunch special menu is a great deal. There's five or six items to choose from, including an all you can eat salad and soup option. I haven't tried all of the lunch specials yet, because I really enjoy the spicy roast beef sandwich on a pretzel roll and have been ordering that regularly. It's very tasty. There are other lunch items not on the special menu that are pretty good too, so if you're not on a tight budget, go ahead and try the pastas, steak, chicken, fish, pizza, oh and don't forget the desserts! The weekend brunch is really good too. There's a big selection of freshly prepared items. I haven't bowled here yet, but I plan to on some weekend when I can get an open bowling lane. read more

Excellent service if you host an event here. We rented a room, held a work meeting there from 10am - 2pm and then reserved a lane for bowling. Staff (Andrew?) is excellent in coordinating the room facilities, food ordering and lane preparation. They even got our shoe size during our meeting so we can start bowling when we're ready. Foodwise, it's definitely better than your typical bowling alley. The coordinator (Anny) who helped us with the reservation was very friendly, detailed and helpful. If there's anything for improvement, I'd say the staff who answers the phone may not be the most friendly over the phone. read more

Bocce ball?! What is that?! I never played bocce ball until I came to Pinstripes. Have been here a couple times for company events. There's a bocce ball area on the left as you enter and the bowling lanes on the right. The place itself is really spacious and open and plenty of seating. They have private rooms for large parties and also an upstairs location that is also great for a private party/banquet. The food is pretty delicious! I haven't "ordered" from here before since every time I come here, it's for a company event and they already have a pre fixe menu. I always have a good time here! read more

We had a group of four to hang out while I was in Chi-town, it's a decent place that seems like modified from a warehouse (bit of cold as such a big place). People can play Bowling while enjoy the food, similar to Dave & Buster. The dishes we ordered have BBQ chicken flatbread, fried calamari, little burger siders, ravioli, etc. food was great, except hygiene needs a bit of improvement, especially for tap water. We found a small bug and other small piece of medal. The service also is bit of lack of attention. I was chewing ice while no body pouring water for about 30 minutes. Had the pleasure of attending a party at Pinstripes last month and have been meaning to review this joint since then. When I first heard the name of the restaurant, I figured it was an American/Bar type of restaurant, but boy was I wrong. Walked in only to realize it was a bocce, bowling alley, and restaurant/bar all in one, what an awesome idea! I was fortunate enough to experience most of their food due to the buffet style with multiple alcoholic drinks provided as well. I won't drag this review on for too long in terms of reviewing each dish served, but I will say for the amount of people they were serving and how much food they cooked, Pinstripes did an excellent job on quality and quantity. Bartender also did a great job slinging out quality drinks at a lightning pace, really did not have to wait too long for any orders. As for the bocce ball and bowling alleys, they have plenty to choose from. Our party consisted of about 40+ people who crowded most of the courts and alleys, but it still left room for more customers to enjoy the activities. That is great especially if you are planning an outing on a busy weeknight and or weekend and hoping not to be stuck without a court or alley. Wish there was a restaurant like this near me as I would be there quite a bit! All and all a great experience and would love to come back if in the area again. read more

Finally a upscale beautiful space for bowling, bocce, and bistro :) Love it! And it's definitely the best of the two in Illinois. The food is always fresh and delicious. What makes this place stand out is the great outdoor space and small gestures made by Pinstripes. Not only are there tables shaded by umbrellas outside for dining, but there's also bocce courts, porch swings overlooking the prairie grass nearby, and large firepit with comfy outdoor seating. I also love that Pinstripes offers blankets to use during the colder Chicago days so you can enjoy the outdoors. Definitely grab a glass of wine and head outside to Pinstripes in the summer. I held my wedding reception here in July. There were some good parts, some great parts, and some areas that need improvement. Overall, I would recommend this as a fun location for a wedding. Great - All my guests had a blast! The bocce and bowling were fun entertainment for groups of any age. The food was wonderful! Guests raved about the lemon artichoke risotto and short ribs, which were phenomenal. My groom and I had a server who brought drinks to us throughout dinner. Their prices are great compared to other wedding venues, and you get more along with better tasting food. We had a band (6+ performers), and they accommodated all of their various needs. The outdoor area was beautiful for an informal or formal ceremony. We had a separate room to hideaway in prior to ceremony. Robyn had quick responses with any e-mail dealings throughout the planning process. The temperature was quite hot on the day of, and my guests were all over the place without any hassle from staff. The food was plentiful. Good - Overall, things ran pretty smoothly. There was a great game plan set up with my planner, Robyn. She connected with me before the wedding and throughout cocktail hour to ensure that things ran smoothly for scheduling and timing. Needs improvement - Their greeters at the front don't pay attention to any sort of line system, and I have been cut in front of by other patrons on more than one occasion. A groomsmen had to ask the servers that my hubby and I get served before the rest of the wedding party. My groom and I never had a chance to sample any of the appetizers during cocktail hour, and none of the servers ever approached us with food during that time. In addition, the servers needed to follow-up with food at each table to make sure there was enough food to go around the whole table. Nobody walked us through the rehearsal, which was more stress than expected, but I felt bad for the birthday party that we had to infringe upon in order to have the rehearsal. read more

Walking into Pinstripes I was very surprised by how nice it was. I was expecting your typical bowling alley but really its an upscale, well decorated restaurant/bar with a bowling alley and bocce ball on either side. We were there for a family birthday party that had been reserved a while prior. When we arrived we found out that there had been an error with our reservation for two hours playing bocce ball. Instead we only had one hour. Since there was an error, the staff gave us two hours on one bowling lane. Normally this would be fine, but we had about 20 people. We got our bocce ball playing in while ordering food and drink. There was definitely need for more servers in our area but those who were there were super quick and attentive. Once we switched over to bowling we faced a problem. There was barely room for the other family party that was on the bowling lane next to us and then we needed to fit at least eight of us in the same space. We squished and they squished and we found out that their reservation had also been messed up. My experience with the food and drink at Pinstripes was pretty good. Above average for a "bowling alley" for sure. However they need to work on their reservation system. The staff that was there did a pretty great job sorting out all of the confusion and overall we ended up having a good time, but it could have been a lot more carefree and enjoyable if there hadn't been an error. If you are making a reservation for a large group, I recommend confirming multiple times to be positive that it was correct so that you don't end up in the same boat that we did. read more

I've been to the Pinstripes in River North, but yesterday I went to the Northbrook location for the first time. Since I had been to other locations, I generally knew what to expect. The difference this time was that I was meeting with a group that had rented out part of the facility, so the service was a bit different - they provided food, bocce ball, and otherwise standing around chatting. I had a perfectly lovely experience. Our waiter was attentive but not obtrusive, the appetizers were delicious, and the drinks were tasty. I also appreciated that when I went to the bathroom, the ladies at the front desk were okay with me setting my drink behind the checkin area. I realize this is Northbrook, not a downtown Chicago bar, but a girl can never be too careful. read more

On a recent Friday night, a group of 7 adults and 5 kiddos made our way to this particular Pinstripes for a night of bowling and family togetherness. I've been to the South Barrington and the Oak Brook locations so I knew we would be in for a great time. My cousin made the reservations about a week prior, knowing full-well that Friday nights are always popular. We arrived at 6:40 and had cocktails while we waited for our lanes. Our waitress was wonderful, and so were the drinks. We paid for our lanes, got our shoes, and headed to our spot. Very soon after settling in, we met our server. This guy was amazing. Kind, punctual, genuinely interested in making sure we all had a great time, and just an all-around nice guy. I feel terrible for not remembering his name because I would have loved to give him a proper kudos. We ordered a ton of food, and everything was delicious. The kids shared pizza, fries, mac & cheese, and chicken tenders, while the grown-ups went with the stuffed mushrooms, a couple of flatbreads, and oh yeah, those uber-amazing tenderloin sliders. We did have issues with the ball return, where they would get stuck often. But our server tacked on extra play time to make up for the inconvenience, so we were happy with the resolution. In response to Stephanie: I appreciate your response, and as I mentioned I have been here many times but this visit was by far the worst experience we have had in a long time. What was even more frustrating was that we were seated next to another large party, and I can't count how many times she walked in the room, went straight to them, and completely ignored our table. That should not happen. I am thoroughly disappointed with the service we received. From the moment we sat down until the moment we left, we felt like she was annoyed with us, but was completely fine with the other table. Why? Because we had kids and didn't order the most expensive things on the menu? Even though we had separate checks, we still spent well over $200, plus tip. The service was unacceptable, and it shouldn't matter what day it is, how busy you are, or what is ordered, the service should be the same across the board! If it's Valentine's Day, and your're offering special items to all couples (champagne and dessert) why was it our job to remind her of this... after we received our bills, after she still forgot to bring my nephew his dessert which was included in his dinner (she brought the other 2 kids theirs but forgot his)? After my sister was charged? What happened to the $50 gift card my sister used, that was charged to her CC instead? The whole scene was wrong on numerous levels. And my sister has contacted the manager, and because he swears the charge was reversed (which it was not) she is now having to go through her bank to dispute it. This should not have happened. Overall the experience was ok. I think it's a really nice, upscale bowling alley. A little disappointed for a few reasons, the first being that they took a while to get our food to us. So instead of eating while we played, we played the whole game and then had 8 minutes to eat before they kicked us out of the lane. The second being that I checked in and was supposed to get a complimentary gelato, but never received it. It's the little things that overall made this outing an annoyance. The food was good, the dessert was really good too. I recommend getting the steak sliders, and the flatbread pizza for food. For dessert I recommend the cheesecake or the brownie. The server was really nice, and that was literally the only thing keeping me from freaking out lol -- especially when one game for 5 people was 85$. read more
