We recently came back from India and were bummed out thinking that we wouldn't find Indian authentic food in the US. Then we came to Holyoke for a work trip and found Pintu's. The food at this restaurant is so good it is almost like being back in India. Their Shahi Panner is out of this world. I loved their coconut filled naam bread. The only thing that I would improve is the decoration as it is a little dark and dated - bright colors and more light is needed. But the food was so delicious! This place used to be so much better initially and has sort of declined since then. Food's gotten pricier although taste is about the same. I used to frequent this place and then stopped coming because of the above reasons and the service which was mostly been good. 2 stars is mostly because of one experience. Came here late one night with a friend and ordered chicken tikka masala as she'd never tried it before. Took a while before it came but it was cold, extra creamy and there was barely enough. I got called out by Pintu in front of my friend for tipping 10% and he demanded that I tip appropriately and wanted me to tell the chefs myself why I tipped that amount. I told him the reasons and that I didn't like the food or the service that day but didn't want to make a scene. I tipped the amount and never came back. read more

I would give this place a negative star if I could, the manager or owner is terribly rude,we were a family of 8, they had no kids menu, only full price fare and then if you split a meal with the kids it's an extra 4.95, and it was a 25 min wait for a waitress to take your order if she does that. It's not really her fault she's the only one in there working the register, the phone, and taking orders.... I just wouldn't waste my time. We love this family run restaurant. The food is delightful--fresh, delicate, and great quality. We always love all the tandoori items--chicke, mixed grill, and my favorite the chicken tika malai. Tender chicken marinate in spices and grilled. Fork tender, spicy, creamy and sizzling. We love the naan. My husband wants the butter. I switch between garlic and pishori. Pishori could almost be dessert w/ chai tea. Best rice pudding ever6--may rich creamy and spices. We also always get mixed veg pakora. Crispy outside and savory soft inside. We (3)came on a thursday for the lunch buffet at 12:30. We had eaten here one other time about a year ago( and been pleased). The food was delicious. The service was very good until... My son had just had a procedure at the va hospital and was not feeling well. He was on his first plate. We asked to have a takeout box. "No we don't do that" the server said abruptly and walked away. My son went outside , planning to come back. She came back for his plate. We thought she had reconsidered the circumstances. No, she threw the remainder of his food out!!! Our son came back in and his plate was gone. She brought the bill and my son paid it leaving a generous tip(tooo generous) I asked "why couldn't he have taken his food home? We paid for it?" "I don't make the rules. I have no way of weighing his food." We paid $17.07 per person. We paid for it! Food and wine delicious. $17.07 for limited selection is way too high. Well maybe it's just Valentine's Day, I don't know but we had a lovely experience at Pintu's tonight. Concluding with a beautiful gesture of a fresh red rose as we were leaving. How nice is that. Food was delicious. Tasted fresh, with spices just right. We had the lamb Hyderabadi Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala and Aloo Gobhi. The buttered naan was superior to that of India House in Noho, in fact the whole experience was better. The service was pleasant and welcoming, the Cosmo was awesome and the decor was pretty cool Try out Pintu's even if you've never had Indian food and you'll be hooked. read more

My parents came here a long time ago and I just came back again with my father tonight. Incredible food and service. Servers were all very attentive and detailed and were of great help when I mentioned my food allergies. Everyone in the restaurant-- owner/manager, chef, waiters, servers made sure everything was just right. Not to overshadow the food of course, which was excellent. And I'm from New York City, so I've been to a few Indian restaurants :) Highly recommended. read more

The Chicken Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala are so delicious! Honestly the best thing on the menu is the garlic naan. We tried the onion naan as well but nothing compared to the garlic one. Service is great, friendly and attentive. The beer was a little pricey to me. read more

My youngest daughter is a huge Indian food fan and I enjoy it also. Our visit to Pintu's was a first for us both. Since it was lunchtime, we opted for the buffet and two naan selections garlic and peshwari. Both were warm, light, and flavorful. I recommend both very highly. The basmati rice on the buffet was also light and fluffy. It was prepared perfectly and it is a must companion with the masala dishes The tandoori chicken was very well spiced but a little over baked. The vegetable pakora was well spiced and light. It was the best option on the buffet. The chicken tikka masala was super tender and the sauce was pleasantly sweet. The fried okra was well spiced but very overcooked. Not good! Our server was super friendly and helpful. The decor was nothing special but is was quiet and comfortable. The dining room was surprisingly busy at 2pm on a Monday with a large number of Indian patrons. I am sure to return to Pintu's in the near future. However, I will stay on the menu and look for something more spicy, perhaps lamb. It's worth the trip to West Springfield with easy access from Route 20. read more

We're established Pintu's fans, but this was our first time at the new location for the lunch buffet. I understand why they moved. This location isn't "quaint" or particularly attractive -- located at the head of a rotary in a fairly desolate area in a building that was formerly occupied by a Ground Round -- but what it lacks in a hip location and pretty exterior, it makes up for with a large, dedicated parking lot, a spacious upscale interior with a mix of roomy booths, tables to suit all party sizes, and a side room that houses a full bar and additional booth seating, and the same excellent food that has kept us traveling to West Springfield at every opportunity. Actually, I thought the food was slightly better than we've had on past Pintu's lunch buffets; I had previously felt that, across the board, buffet selections were seasoned for the masses...but this time things were more heavily spiced and measuring a bit higher on the heat scale. The selections were similar to the old location with both meat and meatless options (I uploaded pictures)...tandoori chicken pieces, vegetable pakoras, naan, chicken tikka masala, a lamb curry, saag paneer, vegetable jhalfreze, chana masala, and bhindi do piaza (spiced okra), with a minimal but tasty assortment of condiments and kheer. Service was...interesting! Our server was friendly and quick with water refills, but I don't think he spoke any English and he was very hesitant and nervous about clearing things off the table. We smiled broadly and helped him through it, passing the things that we were finished with and really this was not an issue for us, but there may have been a problem if we had had questions about the menu or needed much more interaction than water and the check. read more

This place is worth driving for! We used to get takeout whenever we visited when my brother lived in Agawam. After his move to Connecticut it's a bit of a hike for takeout. We took a long drive with the family & ate in on Sunday night. It's so worth the drive. Pintu greeted us, helped us figure out different options, and checked in on us frequently. The Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Shrimp Korma and another fish dish that I cannot for the life of me remember - all were AMAZING. The Coconut Naan - phenomenal. My only regret - I live in MI so I can't go as often as I want ..... and while the local options here are good, they aren't Pintu's level good. I wish I had pics to share, but we ended up diving right in. Oh, and the Spiced Porter brewed for Pintu's by BBC is fantastic. Best Indian cuisine I've ever had! read more

This was a great place before the move. The thing I feel has suffered the most is the service. The food is still decent. I'd say a 6 or 7 on a scale of 10. But the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the service of the waitstaff honestly put me off. My partner and I were in West Springfield, and suddenly needed food. I've been on a cleanse, and we were cold and had been shopping in the area, so I decided to bring us here. It was fairly quiet, and we were seated between two loud parties on the far edge of the restaurant. The very first thing we noticed was that the lights were flickering. I'm not talking a low flicker, I'm talking nearly horror movie levels of flicker. We looked over the menus... Pondered just going... But figured that we could stay through it. Eventually the server came over. My partner asked if we could move, but the server was like "It's just that the lights are dimmed. I'll turn them up." and proceeded to take our order. The server was fairly dismissive of my partner all the way through the ordering process. (My partner has some food sensitivities, and the server was brusque at best in listening to her.) My partner also didn't understand the sauces and onion chutney (Which is an additional "side" here on the menu. Apparently not brought when you order a dish like samosa, or pakora.) and she asked for that to start, where upon the server *Emphatically* told my partner that she needed to order something to get the sauces. It was really... Odd. After taking our orders, the server went away.... The lights kept blinking... The server came back and had a conversation with the loud table behind us. The lights kept blinking... The server disappeared for a bit into the kitchen.... Blink blink blink... Then about 15 minutes later the lights became far less dim, and mostly gave up on the blinking... And the server appears in the dining room and loudly shouts over to us "Yay! No more blinking!" Most of the rest of the meal passed pretty uneventfully. But, by this point the relaxed quick meal out was just not... Relaxing. To be completely honest, this is my last choice for Indian in the area now. I'll likely not go back... Even the buffet when I've had it is just OK at best. read more

I went to Pintus last night for dinner and drinks. The owner Pintu was working so hard meeting the demands of his staff as well as all the clientele. The wait was pretty long, 40-60 minutes. By no means my favorite for Indian food but their saag paneer is probably the best available in the area. Their buffet selection is rather limited and more expensive when compared to some of my other favorites but the over all quality and taste will not disappoint. Pintu's is noted for their Northern Indian food, some items not appearing on other buffets lines you might be familiar with. When Bindi Marsala is availble on the buffet at Pintu's, it is a real treat and totally amazing. This is a good solid Northern Indian dining experience, just not my favorite. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the ... Everything here is delicious. From the naan to the Chicken tikka masala. My absolute favorite is a magical dish called Chicken 65. Its is simply outstanding. Extremely well seasoned juicy, fresh chicken seasoned with only God(and Pintu) knows what!!! No exageration it is the single best entree i have ever had in my life and i have dined at a LOT of places in a LOT of continents. I kid you not, this CHICKEN 65 i speak of is absolutely majestic and should be nominated for a culinary award. I have attatched a pic of this epic delight for a visual but beleive it doesnt do it justice. Do yourselves a favor, get down to the Palace and order this work of food art. We ordered a take out order on Friday night. I live in West Springfield and we try to support local businesses as Friday is always take out night. We ordered 2 entrees and an appetizer. This is always enough as we are not big eaters. They stated on the phone it would be $46.01. My son picked it up and noticed only one container of rice so he said this is for 4 people? They replied you will need to purchase another rice so he did. It was an additional $6.42. We should of received 2 orders of rice. They said no that was for two orders. He's a kid who was taught not to argue. This is what we received for $52; 2 small pint size containers with sauce.The chicken had 3-4 pieces in it. One quart of rice. Just feeling totally ripped off. Just warning others as take out is the only way to go concerning the circumstances. Going Chinese next time. Very disappointed. Over priced!!! read more

Oh, my. My, oh my. I was fortunate enough to be able to dine at Pintu's this evening, it's something I've been wanting to do for a while, but wasn't in the area when I had the time to eat, or when I WAS in the area, they were closed. The stars aliglined properly today, and I was right there, had some time to stop in, AND they were open. So I dined with them. And I must say, I am impressed. This charming restaurant is located near one of the Route 5 roundabouts, and truth be told, I whizzed right by when getting off the road. This didn't deter me. I got off at the next exit, and took the residential street which parallels Rte 5, and got right there. (It's where the old "Ground Round" used to be. Pintu has upgraded the place, and it's so much nicer.) The restaurant is clean, serving staff is friendly and attentive. I ordered my old standby- chicken tikka masala, an order of samosa, and a garlic naan. I also ordered, to take away, THE LEGENDARY CHICKEN 65, which I have to give 5 stars all by itself. (I ate some when I got home. It is epic. Truly epic.) The chicken tikka was wonderful. (Something I will add here- do yourself a favour and get your entrees spiced "medium", unless you adore truly hot food, and your digestion can handle it, then go for hot.) The garlic naan was the best I've ever had. The samosa was flavourful. I thought the crust was heading towards the "too crunchy" side, but the filling was good. Chutneys were excellent. I didn't get dessert, but I did have tea with my meal, it was spiced mildly, and delicious. I am so glad I managed to finally eat here. The beautiful lady at the desk was helpful and kind, and assisted me in boxing up the remainder of my meal, when I ran out of time and had to get back on the road. All in all, a wonderful experience. This place is absolutely awful. My mother, boyfriend, and I went here for dinner and it was literally a miserable experience. Not only was our waitress incredibly rude, but we waited a literal hour (we watched the clock) before we received our food. While we waited, no one came to our table to check on us or refill our water--nothing. I don't even know why we stayed... Once we got our food, it was flavorless and mediocre. I do not recommend this place at all. Go to Punjabi Tadka in downtown Springfield; staff are wonderful, the food is amazing, and the price is right. read more
