Great atmosphere, and a fun welcoming staff and owner. Every experience is different from the last. I don't do the lunch buffet ever really, but colleagues rave about it. Give this spot a visit if you are interested in trying something new. 3.5 stars. When I first passed by Pintu's, I thought it was an old abandoned motel located right off of a rotary... Don't let the outside fool ya! The food's actually pretty good, especially considering the lack of quality restaurants around here.. Pintu's satisfied my indian craving.. Went for the lunch buffet (available Monday-Saturday from 11-3pm, $11.95 M-F and $12.95 Saturdays) and they had a small selection of dishes.. I think they change it up every so often since I saw lots of labels laying on the side for different dishes that weren't present. On the day I went there were 2 vegetable dishes, one chicken, and one lamb. (along with naan, rice, samoas, and rice pudding). SO, there's not too much of a selection, but each of the dishes were good, and I'd choose quality over quantity any day. In the spirit of honesty, I have never been a big fan of Indian food but everyone else always loves it. When friends suggested dinner here I decided to give food from India another chance. I avoided the spice Cumin and then loved the food here. The decor is nice, the service was very good and the food was delicious. They may have just converted me to a fan of Indian food. I'd love to give more detail on the menu and what we ate but since shortly after leaving their the names of the dishes were gone to me, I am not going to guess. When my wife and I want a twofer (translation: A twofer is when the meal is so large it counts as lunch and dinner), this is our destination of choice. The buffet is pretty hard to beat especially considering most of their dinner specials are more than their buffet price (no thank you!). Ambiance/Waitstaff: The place is pretty damn big so getting a table shouldn't be a problem. I've never been for dinner, but for the lunch crowd maybe 30% full so plenty of room for activities (cartwheels and other generic feats of athleticism). Place has a mixture of booths and tables. A pretty well stocked bar which I never frequent (not much of a drinker). The staff are cordial, but they need to up their game with refreshments. Many a time I've filled my own water glass (certainly not a deal breaker). Food: Ok dear reader, I'm going to level with you. I don't have a ton of experience with indian cuisine but by god I know when shit tastes good, and this shit does a tap dance on your tongue, warms your intestines much like the campfire of yore on a crisp autumn night, and then finally settles enveloping your entire being in a state of euphoria. So many things I've been introduced to here. Pakora: crispy fried deliciousness, eat it plain or dip it in your tiki masala sauce, Naan, chiken tiki masala, rice pudding, and a bevy of other dishes II don't know the names of. I must admit I've had serious internal struggles about bringing in tupperware or a starter jacket and stuffing it to the gills while my wife fakes a seizure. Unfortunately the seizure act would only work once so we've decided against it for the moment. I have dabbled in Indian food (take out in NYC) a bit in the past. Decided to make a night of it - Wow - was I impressed!!! I ordered Saag Paneer (light on the cream - medium/hot) - it was perfect! The paneer was fresh, and not "mushy" as I have had in the past. Perfect flavoring of the saag. Yummy! I brought my aunt, who is not a fan of anything spicy, and this was her first experience of Indian cuisine. She had the Chicken Tikka Masala (mild) and still cant stop talking about it. Pintus has moved since I last visited. The new space is right next to the Connecticut River in West Springfield, and it is just off a traffic circle (or rotary, as they are called in New England). This space is significantly larger than the previous one, and it has a very similar vibe. There are old wine glasses on shelves throughout the restaurant, decorating the walls. The food is one of the best Indian meals I've had in awhile, certainly the best you're going to get in Western Massachusetts. I had the garlic naan (outstanding) and the Shahi Paneer (very similar to Paneer Makhni), and is was excellent. They offer a variety of spice levels for the curries: mild, medium, spicy, and very spicy. I went with medium and it still packed a good punch. The mild was VERY mild, so for those of you new to Indian food that may work well for you. Pintus is a fine place and I hope to return next time I am in the area! read more

Pintus...hmmm. Well, for a while it was the only game in town. Going out to eat in Noho can be an ordeal, so Pintus was a convenient alternative. I've been to Pintus many times over the years and if there is one standout impression of it, it would be inconsistency. It's a real crap shoot. Sometimes the food is good, other times barely passable. Service can be really bad to passable. The old location was small but had a nice ambiance. The new one (Ground Round et al) is much bigger but is dirty. It's like they just painted the place over to cover up the grime and dirt. Pintus could be much better and when they were the only place to go you didn't have a choice. Now with 3+ area Indian restaurants you really can do much better. I would suggest Priya in Chicopee. They have a nice lunch buffett ,service and surroundings. If you think Pintus is the best, try the others and you may have a new favorite. read more

Finally went to the new location. A little bit dark inside unlike the previous location and also unlike the previous establishments in that building. This time we went for the lunch buffet, we were 2 of 4 people in there, and it was fabulous. Food was hot, plentiful and full of flavor, very gracious hostess, and very full by the time we left. The other time I went was a few years back, was my first try and was with a date at the time, and Pintu reccomended a fabulous apple wine to go with the meal and was crisp and refreshing. A bit more light and decor and gets the full boat from me, but those are details. We go for the food and that is amazing. read more

My husband n I drove all the way from manchester to springfield last saturday. The yelp reviews looked good and the friend of my husband praised this place a lot so I could not wait to try this one. First of all they moved to a new place recently. This new place was a tough one to be located. Just FYI it is just at the corner of the round about. Its so confusing to get to this place even with the GPS. The restaurant is in a plaza kinda. They have a pretty big parking space on site. We walked inside and there was none to welcome us as we were the first ones to be there. We were there for lunch and they had a buffet. The decor is good and has a pretty huge seating space. They also have a small seating attached to the bar and nice to catch up with the TV there while munching n sipping. Coming to the spread, it had very limited dishes. There was one vegetable pakora and some chicken kebabs for the appetizers. Channa masala and a chicken gravy. Naans, white rice n okra fry. For desserts kheer. I being a vegetarian felt the variety of the buffet was quite boring. Dint have many options. Taste wise it was good. Somehow not satisfied with the price n the staff. We came in pretty late to the restaurant but the food service and the quality was fantastic. We started our meal with appetizer Cauliflower Pakora and I gotta admit that I haven't had such a quality one in recent past. When the Briyani and the Lamb Bugna arrived we couldn't wait to have them , it was delicious and best part was the spiciness level (right up to we expected). Overall we enjoyed the food quality and we were happy to take home the leftovers. We would come here again for sure. read more

2018 Update: Sure enough.. the return of Mr. Pintu at the establishment created an entirely different level of quality. When he's there the food is 5/5 and one of the best in all of mass including most of the Cambridge/Boston Indian places we now frequent since moving there. Without him it's very average. Their new location is such an improvement! A lot more intimate with booths and tables rather than just an open space. Still delicious food, with the best Chicken Tikka Masala and vegetable pakora I've ever had! I came with a few other people so we ordered a bunch of things for everyone. I have a bigger stomach for spicy things and they were very accommodating with bringing out some hot sauce on the side. They also make the best chutneys around. I put the onion and mint(?)/cilantro(?) chutney on everything. Beware, the onion (red) chutney is very spicy though! Came on a Saturday night and they had cool live belly dancing too. The owner also came by and said hello which was a nice touch. The service is still a little bit slow and the price is a little high for the portion size but completely worth it for the quality of food. read more

I came to Pintu's for dinner with a couple of friends. They're Indian and they love the place so if it's good enough for them I knew it would be good enough for me! It was a Monday evening and there were a good number of people seated in the dining area (another good sign). Our waitress came over promptly to offer us water and take our appetizer orders. We started with some vegetable samosas and enjoyed them. For entrees we ordered the Shahi Paneer (Cottage cheese cooked in tomato cream sauce) and Nav Ratan Korma (Nine fresh vegatables & nuts in a cream sauce). We also had some garlic nan and butter nan. We ordered medium spice since my friend isn't too keen on spicy. Everything was very good. I haven't eaten that much in a long time. There was a point where I knew I should stop but everything was so delicious that I couldn't. I ate more at Pintu's than I did at Thanksgiving lol. For dessert we had Mango Lassi's. The Lassi's were a little watery for my taste but my friend enjoyed it very much. All in all a good experience! read more

Not too shabby. I got take out from here the other night and it was pretty good. The portion size was mediocre for the price. I ordered the Malai Kofta and it came with three dumplings. I was a little disappointed in the portion size since it cost $15, but it was a tasty meal. The food here is incredible but the service is great. I think the owner spoke to us as well to ask us how the food was which I really appreciated. While it is a little on the pricier side if you're used to getting Indian food from a major city, it's totally worth it. The quality of the food is amazing, plus the flavor and large menu make up for the higher price. Wouldn't change anything about the experience, if I could give it more stars I would. Loved this place. We double dated with friends and each ordered a different meal so we could sample all four. Each one was delicious! I don't remember all the names, I got the chicken curry (medium heat) and it was great. Someone else got shrimp in a creamy red sauce and that was excellent as well. We complemented with chicken and buttered nan as well as the rice. Everything was delicious. Pintu even has a craft brewed porter made by Berkshire Brewing called Pintus Porter -I loved it. Almost tasted like it has a holiday spice to it. Pintu stopped by the table to check on us. Took one star off because of the slow service. Not terrible, but noticeably slow to greet us and take drink orders. Once we had their attention it was better. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

This was a great place before the move. The thing I feel has suffered the most is the service. The food is still decent. I'd say a 6 or 7 on a scale of 10. But the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the service of the waitstaff honestly put me off. My partner and I were in West Springfield, and suddenly needed food. I've been on a cleanse, and we were cold and had been shopping in the area, so I decided to bring us here. It was fairly quiet, and we were seated between two loud parties on the far edge of the restaurant. The very first thing we noticed was that the lights were flickering. I'm not talking a low flicker, I'm talking nearly horror movie levels of flicker. We looked over the menus... Pondered just going... But figured that we could stay through it. Eventually the server came over. My partner asked if we could move, but the server was like "It's just that the lights are dimmed. I'll turn them up." and proceeded to take our order. The server was fairly dismissive of my partner all the way through the ordering process. (My partner has some food sensitivities, and the server was brusque at best in listening to her.) My partner also didn't understand the sauces and onion chutney (Which is an additional "side" here on the menu. Apparently not brought when you order a dish like samosa, or pakora.) and she asked for that to start, where upon the server *Emphatically* told my partner that she needed to order something to get the sauces. It was really... Odd. After taking our orders, the server went away.... The lights kept blinking... The server came back and had a conversation with the loud table behind us. The lights kept blinking... The server disappeared for a bit into the kitchen.... Blink blink blink... Then about 15 minutes later the lights became far less dim, and mostly gave up on the blinking... And the server appears in the dining room and loudly shouts over to us "Yay! No more blinking!" Most of the rest of the meal passed pretty uneventfully. But, by this point the relaxed quick meal out was just not... Relaxing. To be completely honest, this is my last choice for Indian in the area now. I'll likely not go back... Even the buffet when I've had it is just OK at best. read more

I really like this place. The lunch buffet is a great bargain, and the take out lunch specials for $7 can't be beat. They could be bigger but they're really cheap so who cares. I really do miss the old building on Elm St which was intimate where the new place is awkwardly located on a rotary, and seems too big for the crowd they gather inside. The service has always been great. One time we were there with our normally very well behaved, but very hungry daughter who went into meltdown mode at about 18 months old. Embarrassed and not wanting to ruin the whole dining room, we asked to have our order turned into takeout instead. Mr Pintu himself insisted we sit down and brought a small plate with a few dallops of whipped cream on it. It was just about magical and somehow instantly calmed her down. The meal turned out fine. 'Id normally expect the management or ownership to be glad you're leaving if your child goes AWOL but that's not how Mr Pintu rolls. This place isn't too hard to beat for food quality in NYC, but I haven't found its equal in Western Mass. I've yet to try Priya but that might be its only competition. read more

Excellent! My Husband and I have been looking for a GOOD Indian restaurant. We have tried the few that are around us but they always lacked that authentic spice. The dishes were be off and service would be terrible. Finally, here comes Pintus. This place is great and delicious! As I write this review, I am getting hungry thinking of the food. I love that when you order it spicy, it actually comes out with a kick. So beware! Een the medium has a bit of a punch but nothing that someone that likes hot things can't handle. It adds really good flavor to it. Prices are pretty reasonable and comparable to most. I highly recommend Pintus. Really easy to get to and decent size parking lot. read more

Pintu's has great food, varying service, and a terrible (but slightly improved) location! There's not really a lot going on in West Springfield, and I would never ever go there if it weren't for Pintu's. Luckily, Pintu's new location has plenty of seating and even a bar area if you do have to wait, which solves the crowding that used to happen when folks lined up for this delicious Indian fare. Some of the staff seems new, as two separate folks were unable to answer some basic questions, but the experienced staff and the quality of the food more than make up for this minor shortcoming. Absolutely terrible. It is a combination divey sports bar with Indian buffet pretending to be a restaurant. It is dark and dirty. The service is poor and slow. Plating and presentation would be better at any diner. The food: my Goan fish curry tasted almost identical to my dinner companion's jalfrezi fish. The fish?! At worst you can usually expect farmed tilapia at cheap eateries. Here it is neither a filet of fish or full fish with spine. It is cubed unspecified fish. Both dishes looked and tasted identical. I accept that perhaps in Goa there is a dish of cubed fish, but the menu or server should specify. The ras malai was also inferior. I would not waste money here again. read more

Yummy!! What's pleasant surprise!!! The lunch buffet was excellent. Fresh, well prepared delicious food. Chicken kormu and saag paneer -my two entree favorites. Rice pudding -my desert favorite. All just right. Yes, the price is higher than most American lunch places , but here the " you get what you pay for" applies. Friendly and homey one you get inside. Lovely staff. BUT, the owners would be wise to invest in some, perhaps expensive, by their standards, restaurant consultants. They desperately need to up their curb appeal. Almost decided not to stop because the place, from the outside looks ... closed? Abandoned, unclean, in need of repair. I suppose my home is EXACTLY the same I appeal to the owners! Make the plunge! Food is excellent However the service is HORRIBLE!!!! Waited forever for waitress to take our drink order, appetizers came out quick & hot. Entrees eventually came out close to an hour after we ordered, meanwhile waitress never came around to see if we wanted more drinks! Vegetable Korma has frozen veggies (not great) Chicken Malai is great, vegetable Pakara excellent. I have also had the lunch buffet in the past, great food but TERRIBLE service, luckily it was buffet but I waited forever for the check. I've been here a few times, and ordered several things and have yet to be disappointed. Pintus has perhaps the best food in Western MA. It's not as fancy as some of the other Indian restaurants in the area, but the food is much better than anything else you will find here. If you are in Western MA at all and looking for really good Indian food then this is the place for you. The only complaint about anything would be that some of the wait staff can seen a bit rude, perhaps undertrained at times, but don't let that dissuade you from at least checking this place out. read more
