I saw a short employee female that was restocking shelves and said "excuse me miss" and she didn't even stop walking away from me after she said "yeah", then when I proceeded to ask my question she had a rude ass glare and told me to look it up, giving me so much attitude. Normally very helpful here, but our last visit to have lock sets rekeyed, not so much. Cashier must not have understood why we brought in the lock sets , told us it might be done same day (of course the house was entirely unsecured at this time) and instead made copies of the same keys. I had to call and was told all was ready to be picked up. But when we arrived, the re- keying was not done...just new keys for the old locks we wanted rekeyed! So we had to wait until it was completed by a really grouchy, upset guy who cursed all the way back to his station. Ahhhh.....Thanks for saving a very long trip to home depot. I broke a rainbird style sprinkler at the house Tim and I rented on Sunset Beach. Associates avoided making eye contact and didn't seem like they wanted to be there or to lend any assistance and I felt uneasy asking anyone for help. I spoke to the manager on duty, Nala, in regards to an online order that was placed. According to the manager who took my call on the day of placing the order, the item was conformed and ready to pick up. Unfortunately, this woman's name Nala (store manager on duty) was extremely rude with by far the worst customer service! Long story short. My order could not be found in the store! I was told she would follow up with me in about 10 min regarding checking another store for inventory, I never received a call back. Therefore, 20 minutes later, I called the store back, and another associate answered the phone with saying just hello! I had to ask if I was speaking to someone from Ace Hardware. That female responded by saying, "Nala is still working on it." So I then responded by saying"sorry but I didn't give you my name." she then says my name, and she says she sees my name on their caller ID! (very rudely) Nala then comes on the phone and is abruptly rude! In the middle of asking questions, she then proceeded to talk over me, telling me I needed to call tomorrow to speak with their manager James. She then hangs up the phone on my ear! I have never encountered customer service that was this bad over the phone! She does not belong in management!!!! Both employees need customer service training!!! I'd give Pioneer Ace Hardware negative five stars if I could. Here's why: I parked in their lot, bought some Super Glue, and then walked across the street for lunch with my wife and son. When we returned not long after, a company Ace contracts with, Response Parking Management, had towed our car to a town 10 miles away. When I asked an Ace employee why they'd tow a customer, they said customers are only allowed to park in their lot while they're actually in the store and that signs state this. However, the signage is grossly inadequate. There are far too few signs, the lettering on the signs is tiny, and the language is ambiguous. How does Ace enforce their parking policy? Here's where things start to get slimy. This is what I was told -- a towing company employee records all cars in the lot and then goes into the store and asks ALL customers in the store if they have a car in the lot. Any car with no matching customer in the store gets towed. Friendly neighborhood helpful hardware store my ass. On top of it, we had no way to call a taxi because our mainland phones weren't working. The result -- Ace stranded my family on our first day of vacation on Oahu. That's not quite the welcome I expected from the Aloha state. Thanks to a nice couple who saw our distress, we got a ride to our car, which strangely was parked in a residential neighborhood of Wahiawa. We had trouble finding Response Parking Management. There was no signage or commercial-looking lot. This is where things get even slimier. What I learned later is that our rental car was towed to the home of Hawaii State Senator Donovan Dela Cruz. He's the chairman of the senate's ways and means committee, one of the most powerful positions in state government. The senator gets paid a monthly fee by the towing company for use of his driveway to store towed cars. Also suspicious -- I couldn't pay with a credit card. The towing company would only take cash. After a hike to an ATM, I paid $190 in cash to get our car back. Because of the grossly inadequate signage, the practice of interrogating customers about their cars, the uncommon policy of towing customers' cars, the cash only requirement, a state senator on the payroll, and my strong suspicion that Ace profits from this deal, this felt like a straight up scam. I know I'm not alone in feeling this way. This store's policy tarnishes Haleiwa and the Ace Hardware chain's reputations. It's unethical if not illegal. More importantly, it's not aloha. Plus, it's plain stupid for a store to bite the hands that feed it. This practice will eventually hurt this business and Haleiwa in general. If you're a business owner in Haleiwa, don't work with Response Parking Management. You may profit in the short run, but you'll eventually ruin your reputation and the business climate of Haleiwa. Response Parking Management is working with Ace, McDonalds, San Lorenzo Bikinis, and other businesses. Don't let this cancer spread. If you do, then you'll force people to move their car every time they want to visit a different store in town. That'll ruin the downtown shopping experience. You need to get together with other business owners to fix the parking problem. Response Parking Management isn't the solution. If you're a Haleiwa local that cares about your neighbors, then do not shop at Pioneer Ace Hardware until they stop this vile practice. Boycott! They're not just hurting tourist like me. Locals are being preyed upon as well, but may not speak up because of the powerful politician linked to the towing company. I just returned from my local Haleiwa, Pioneer Ace Hardware Store feeling very happy and satisfied. I often feel a bit lost in a hardware store. I tried to find what I needed but wasn't successful. I asked a store rep for help and he was great!He guided me to the right area and was patient as I explained what I needed so he could assist me in getting the correct parts. I paid for the parts then took the pvc outside for cutting( a nominal fee for each cut) again I received wonderful and friendly customer service. I shop at Haleiwa Aces at least once a week. I was in the store and saw the ladder I wanted but decided to come back the next day and instead purchase it online for next day pickup. After I paid for the ladder, I received confirmation that it would take 2 weeks to ship even tho I selected same day pickup..I needed it now, so I canceled. I still have not received my credit card refund. Ebay, Amazon, home depot refund immediately...I canceled on the SAME DAY within 30 minutes and they keep giving me run around it takes 7 to 10 days... First off I just want to say that I've been coming to this ace hardware store for about 5 years now and today, by far, was the rudest experience I have ever had. Two registers were open for checkout and judging by the checkout time I chose to stand closer to one register and wait. Not really paying attention to the poorly made sign hanging from the ceiling where to stand as there WASN'T ANYBODY IN LINE BUT ME. As the other register opened I approached and unloaded my cart as to which TIFFANY asked "umm were you in line?" At that point I looked up to see some guys just at that moment walk to the line. Tiffany then failed to make eye contact the whole time when I asked her if she was joking or not and she proceeded to tell me to get to the back of the NOW EXISTING LINE. The guys in line insisted I check out and that it wasn't bothering them but by then I was so pissed off and embarrassed at how rude the situation toward me became that I put my things from the counter back in the cart to the end of the line. Be aware. Parked my car there for 30 minutes at most...got towed. Btw, lots of spots available! Went inside they said they had nothing to do with it. It was controlled by separate parking management company. Had to take a $20 Uber ride and then pay in cash to the parking management company to get my car back. ( Literally, had an ATM machine... to accommodate their practices.)The whole ordeal cost me $200. All in all, the most least friendly treatment of visitors. I can always find what I need when I go there. If I can't, someone there can immediately find it for me! Instead of sending me off to some random aisle, they personally walk me there, point out the item make sure it is what I need and if not they other options that would work just as well. We went in to get a beach mat for the beach and ask them where is a good place to have lunch and the cashier took time to tell me all of the good places to eat in Haleiwa. We chose Jameson by the sea which was very nice with an ocean view. Our lunch was good and the service was excellent. We spent the afternoon watching the high surf on Northshore. read more

This is a classic neighborhood hardware store with a huge selection hiding in it's modestly small (relative to the huge box store) building. The customer service is great, maybe the first person you ask can't help, but they sure as heck will find someone who can. Extremely polite and with a great small town feel that maybe some people from other parts aren't quite used to (as seen in other reviews) Always my first stop before the big guys stores, prices are pretty comparable and convenient to anyone on the northern side of the island, keep smaller local businesses alive! I recently had occasion to go to this store and they had 5 of the items i needed, for which I paid $7.50 each, and then they checked stock in their main office store in Wahiawa which had the rest of the items I needed, so i drove there ( approx. 7-8 miles) to find the price to be $6.29 each. Shame on these owners for gouging customers, when their cost is the same for all of their three stores. I guess they must feel they have a captive audience and maybe they do, but not for me anymore as this sure makes the trip to Home Depot much more palatable. read more
