Pipe Spies' owner Warren came out for a routine inspection of our main line after we had a little water puddle up in a smaller drain in the basement laundry room. This was the second time Pipe Spies scoped our main line, as they did so when we originally bought the house. I thought that I might have had some kind of back-up in the main line that was affecting the smaller drain in our laundry room, but the inspection showed that our main line was as clear as when we bought the house several years ago. Warren's expertise made for a great experience: he walked me through the whole inspection process and shared live images from the camera on the inspection tool. More than that, he then mapped out the entire drainage system in our basement to help determine where the problem might be for the smaller drain that was backed up (the drain was connected to a line that was too small for Pipe Spies to scope). He then offered recommendations to share with our plumber based on what he learned of our drainage lay-out. I called our plumber after the inspection with Pipe Spies and shared the information from Warren. I called to make an appointment TODAY, the person I spoke with said they could come late this afternoon. Unfortunately, something came up at the last minute and had to cancel. I called 3 times to let them know before I received a call back from the receptionist who was SO RUDE!! She said there was a 24 hour cancellation policy and that I had no right to call 3 hours ahead and cancel. I didn't even know about a 24 hour cancellation because I had scheduled on the phone just TODAY and she didn't tell me about that. The service technician was great. However, when I went to download the video file to have a second opinion of the sewer line, PipeSpies directed me to download a software application that turned out to be malware. My antivirus software went off immediately notifying me that I had a trojan horse virus on my computer. This is especially concerning for me as I am currently purchasing a home and have loan application documents on my computer that have my SSN, bank account numbers and other sensitive information. Thankfully Pipe Spies removed the instructions and so going forward they won't be directing anyone to download and install malware in the future; however when I spoke to the owner, Warren Rickford, to let him know he needs to notify past customers that may have malware on their computers without them knowing, he became agitated and combative saying that wasn't necessary. His lack of concern for customers safety and financial security is so irresponsible and so disgraceful that I immediately filed a complaint with Colorado Attorney General's office. I recommend people use any other sewer scope service, but Pipe Spies. read more

I'm a realtor and have been recommending that people purchasing homes have the sewer line videoed for at least 15 years. I have seen it all with sewer video inaccuracies! This is a real rip off industry and it is imperative to find honesty and integrity in this line of work! I have been recommending Pipe Spies exclusively for the past 6-7 years. Warren has done inspections for me and some of my family, and the experiences have always been great. We called him in after a previous sewer scope operation had given us an "all clear," only to have a sewer backup within 2 months. Warren found a problem and made some specific recommendations on what we needed to do to correct it. Previous service providers had told us we probably needed a new sewer line, but since Warren is independent and doesn't perform an repair work, his recommendations are much more trustworthy since he doesn't stand to gain from recommending huge repair projects. read more

A Pipe Spies staff member came out to scope the sewer prior to me buying a house. They were hired by the seller. This procedure was something I required prior to the contract. It was a basement bathroom and I was satisfied with the scope procedure and the pipe spies staff person who showed me that there were no roots or problems with the sewer all the way to the street.. Now the very, very bad which I consider grossly incompetent and even criminal. The main sewer line which was to be capped was exposed by a drywall cut out. The staff member was going to leave it open which is unacceptable. Both my realtor and the seller's realtor agreed. He then put a cap on it. Within 3 days of moving in, I had a plumber out to fix washer hose connections. Plumber found that the basement floor was covered with water and informed me the wrong size cap had been put on (ANY licensed plumber would have known it would cause a problem.). He then went out and bought the correct size and waxed it good. The house had been a fix and flip (disaster) and had not been lived in for a full year. I did have a complete inspection including for mold as I am highly allergic to mold. prior to considering the home. I am told the inspector did not get a mold reading of significance due to the plumbing had not been used, the mold was dried, and the seller put new materials in that covered the mold (with the exception of the small opening for the main sewer line. The plumber had me go upstairs and flush toilet and turn on faucets. He discovered a huge leak in the main sewer cast iron pipe. This is just information and pipe spies were not involved with the crack in sewage line. He ended up having to cut the dry wall bit by bit from floor to ceiling, ended up repairing the pipe crack was big and nearly 6 feet long) and since the dry wall was riddled with active black mold and exposed by removing the drywall I had to call in emergency mold remediation who was recommended by plumber. (It was a Saturday.) I have written statements by both the licensed plumber AND the mold remediation staff that the mold had been there a long time ( but inactive since no one had used plumbing regularly for a year and once it was used it reactivated the mold) and that it would have been "IMPOSSIBLE" for ANYONE working in area of the main sewer access (Which Pipe Spies did) "NOT TO HAVE VISUALIZED" the mold. The sewer scope and replacing the cap on the sewer line was the last step before agreeing to purchase the house. If I had prior knowledge of the mold (such as Pipe spies informing me) I would not have bought the house! Since, the house is now mine, I have been constantly sick despite the mold remediation (a whole different story of disaster), on the strongest antibiotics other than IVs, and literally every system in my body and bee adversely affected. While I do not blame Pipe Spies for the mold being present, I do have issues that DID NOT DISCLOSE THE MOLD TO ME and didn't even know to put the right size cap on main sewer line (which may actually have been a fortunate thing.) I am in the process of retaining an attorney who I suspect will name Pipe Spies as partially liable. read more

Pipe Spies is the best value for getting your sewer lines inspected and video recorded! Warren was on time, super-friendly and more important, was professional. He walked me through what he was doing, let me watch the video as he was recording it, and basically gave me a tour of the problems with my pipe in real time. He answered every question I had, and then handed me a dvd of the video when he was finished. There are other companies out there, but I can't imagine them being as good as Pipe Spies! I hired this guy to do a sewer scope on a house I was considering buying. He got to the house before me complete with his surly attitude. I found him using a hammer and chisel to take off an old steel sewer cap. He got it off but damaged the pipe in doing so. He didn't want to take the extra five minutes to go through a toilet or the roof vent I guess. Then, when he was done, he did a shoddy repair job and put on another cap that didn't fit and sealed it with a toilet bowl ring wax. The thing was ready to fall off at any minute. He just didn't care. He acted like he was doing me a favor answering a couple of questions. He was in a hurry to take his surly attitude over to another job you see. But first he handed me a liability waiver and asked me to sign it presenting it as a receipt. I didn't realize it was a liablity waiver until I got home and read it more closely. Needless to say the owner of the property was not pleased with his shoddy work and I was left holding the bag and had to repair it properly at my own expense. Oh, and by the way, he charges twice as much as the competition. I can't recommend him to anyone. read more
