My husband is always looking for good coffee beans. He decided with a Guatemalan/Oaxacan blend. I opted for the jasmine pearl tea. The staff is very friendly & so helpful! The price is decent. It's worth walking through the door just for the smells. So many o origins of coffee beans to try. I ended up with some Kenya Peaberry and Sulawesi. Both so enjoyable black with no added anything! Staff is so friendly and the only downside I can think of is parking. Will be frequenting this place. read more

With this place you only have two options but they do them well. They have tea and black coffee, but only ever one flavor available at that moment for tasting. How they stick out from others is the fact that they have countless different flavors of coffee that you can purchase and take home. And they are all roasted in that store while you're shopping. The "Klatsch" as it's known locally, truly is a slice of Huntsville and has been since 1976 (that's 48 years!)! Of course, I've had their coffee, who hasn't? Their iconic 1929-vintage Jabez Burns coffee roaster, purchased in New Orleans is the focal point of the coffee shop. That, and the beautiful earthy large, 130-lb. burlap bags in which their beans arrive, are located in the same room. One of my best childhood friend's parents loved the Klatch's beans so much, they mail ordered the bags of roasted beans and had them delivered to whatever part of the world work took her Daddy to El Paso, TX, and further. More interesting for me and hordes of others was the Kaffeeklatsch bar, which, sadly, closed in 2015. For decades, "Klatsch" was the place to go to hear live blues, especially on Sunday's open mic Blues Night/Sunday Blues Jam! The 'Klatsch was known for live folk, blues, and jazz. Think Microwave Dave (fun fact: He got his stage name "Microwave" Dave, here! His real name is Dave Gallaher), Dave Anderson, Amy McCarley, Old Crow Medicine Show, Rolling Stones saxophonist Bobby Keys, and more. The stage was small and intimate, and I'm sure the crowds [often winding thier way to the tiny upstairs area by sitting on the steps] exceeded the fire department capacity limit. A neighborhood hole-in-the-wall place, with a local dive bar feel, the restrooms were downstairs, and the stairwell walls as wwll as the restrooms were completely covered with all sorts of graffiti. I don't recall the food offerings, but somehow hotdogs and things like chicken salad and tuna salad stand out in memory. It was a place to get a light lunch, and you'd see all walks of life from plumbers to politicians, lawncare workers to lawyers in the Klatsch. Beers were cold, there was a full bar, and the eclectic crowd was always interesting. The tiny patio out front was a nice place to make new friends or meet people. It was a sad day when the bar part of the Klatsch closed. The owner, Carole Record (a former long-time server here), had decided to retire. I'm happy Grant and Kathy Heath are keeping the 'Klatsch alive with their delightfully locally roasted renowned coffee beans! read more

What a wonderful place to pick up some whole bean coffee! The staff was super friendly and helpful. We told them it was our first time in and they gave us the lowdown on some of the beans. They also gave us a recommendation on some beans that they had roasted earlier in the morning. It was a fantastic experience. They have coffee from all over the world including Jamaican Blue Mountain. The price is on point for what you get. You can get half pound or full pounds. They also have a fresh pot of rotating coffee that is 3 dollars a cup. Definitely worth checking out if you love coffee. read more

After visiting 3 years ago, I finally looked The Kaffeeklatch up and paid a long overdue visit. I could smell coffee bring roasted before I entered. The staff are friendly and quiet knowledgeable, as I recall from 3 years ago. We talked about my recent visit to southern Mexico where I tasted the best coffee I've ever had. I bought a pound of Mexican coffee, whole bean. Did I mention I'm a coffee geek? The staff suggested i try a different and rather exceptional smelling Mexican variety! "A half pound of that please" and I'm out the door! I had to get a picture of the vintage ( early 1900's I'm guessing coffee roaster!) They have a very diverse supply of coffee and tea brewing devices and accessories at reasonable prices! Since it was early, around 9am finding a nearby (free)parking place was not a problem! My coffee snob husband who makes his coffee every morning with nasa level precision says this coffee (the house blend) is "pretty f'ing good" and I rarely hear him say that about anything other than his davir. He does pour over and says the water should be 180F instead of his usual 190. Near to see them roasting the beans and the "flakes" coming out of the chimney. It's outside order only and they were only selling beans when we went there. Guessing these were covid situations. read more

These people make my coffee. I like the coffee. I like them. I like mornings on the back porch swing drinking a cup of their coffee while watching the birds with my wife and dogs. I like enjoying the second cup of coffee driving over the mountain on my way to work, though I like it better on Saturdays, when I'm not driving to work. I like walking past the store when they're running their way-cool ancient coffee roaster. The street smells like ... like ... coffee. I like to walk in and be amazed at the long list of beans. Lots of free-trade, lots of organic. Lots of coffee from all over. They'll grind it (or not) and blend beans to your order. Flavored coffees, too, and a jillion teas. Coffeemakers and other caffeine-related detritus are for sale. And the owner and everybody working there are absolute peaches. But they're pretty much only set up to sell beans, not the ready-to-ingest stuff. They have one coffeepot that has one kind of coffee in it. One. You can walk out with a cup. Just accept whatever's coming out of the brewer, pay your $2 and take a sip. Careful, it's hot. I guess you can touch it up with cream and sweetener, but then you probably like ketchup on your New York strip. This is coffee art, and contaminants, while available here, aren't something connoisseurs take part in. As you come back more and more, you may encounter delivery day. You'll watch as 100lb bags of beans are unloaded from a large truck. The bags come from the four corners of the globe. The owners are close to their suppliers, having met most of them personally. Ethopia, Hawaii, Sumatra, Tanzania, Mexico... You're getting the idea why this place is a bit unusual. No, there's nothing wrong with a latte every now and again, but this place speaks to the purist. I admit not having a real taste for coffee before encountering the 'Klatsch way back when. Now, I cannot even look at a cup of "house coffee" anymore. On business trips I long for the earthy citrus of the Ethopian bean or the complex meaty flavors of the Tanzania. I'm spoiled. For you, maybe coffee is simpler than that. Their store smells awesome from the freshly roasted coffee beans and teas! Their staff are really nice. I love the huge old model roasting machine they have on the front of their shop. By the way, they're more of a coffee bean and tea retailer rather than a coffee shop. You can't sit there basically. I would have loved to stay there and sit my coffee inside their beautiful shop. But anyway, what's amazing is that they were so open on sharing with us how they get their coffee, from what countries they get their supplies, how they roast their coffee, etc. Those things ordinary shops wouldn't tell you, but they told us. I think it's very nice of them. And i highly recommend that you visit their store. The time we were there, they were serving coffee from Honduras. A cup of coffee was only $2.00 so i think that's also what's great about them. read more

Top of the line coffee products and family friendly service! This is Huntsville's primo coffee supplier/roaster.... possibly the oldest too. Some real downtown "flavor". Treat yourself to delightfully fresh coffee you can make at home.... the difference is obvious & immediate. We walked in not knowing what to expect exactly so my husband started to explain that we had found them online when looking for a local coffee shop as we were passing through town. The older man immediately interrupted and said, "First of all, we are not a coffee shop." He was apparently offended and very rude the rest of our short visit. My husband bought a cup of the daily brew, which he said was nothing special. As avid coffee shop hunters, this was the worst experience of all so far. The customer service was certainly lacking as they treated us with disdain. The daily brew was average - and that's based on our experience with organic coffees around the globe. read more

I don't know anymore what Starbucks smells like. Maybe money. Maybe despair. But every time I walk into Kaffeeklatsch I remember what coffee smells like. Because Kaffeeklatsch smells like coffee. My interest in the place is unreasonable given that my patronage consists of wandering in there half a dozen times late Saturday mornings to buy a to-go cup of coffee in an unmarked styro cup with a flimsy lid. Then again, if you care about coffee at all (and I do, a little) you have to respect a place where any perfunctory attempts at decor in the store are completely overwhelmed by a massive coffee roasting apparatus and piles of burlap bags filled with, potentially, your next really good cup of coffee. Maybe it's also that the name and the atmosphere bring back good memories of the time I spent in Goettingen, an entire town full of old-world atmosphere and studied craftsmanship and the place where my taste for both coffee and beer were hatched. And where, by carefully avoiding the local Golden Arches, I managed never to buy a mediocre cup of coffee. Who knows, maybe in Goettingen even Mickie D's serves above-average coffee. Certainly the Kaffeeklatsch serves (and roasts) above-average coffee, and I've loved the sum total of 30 minutes I've spent there over the last year since we moved to HSV. I guess I need to make a point to go back when there's music playing and set a spell. Tell you what, if I stay more than few minutes, guarantee I won't smell like despair when I leave. read more

Ah, the Kaffeeklatsch. AKA Coffee crotch by a friend of mine who, let's say, is less than enlightened. Back in the day, I would sit out at night, watching people walk to bars, while having great conversation with friends. The music is always a draw, and there seems to be an eclectic mix of people hanging out, having a drink, playing games. There never seems to be any food when visiting, and it was not uncommon to see a pizza delivery car drive up to the corner of Jefferson St. . . .herein lies the inescapable charm of the klatsch. read more

Fantastic coffee, tea, and camaraderie in a wonderful old building downtown! Staff is warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable. They roast all the coffee beans on site, as well as selling green beans to folks who like to roast their own. And they ship all over the country, which comes in handy at gift-giving season. What a cool place we found! Part Coffee house (day), Part Bar (Night), we stumbled across it while checking out downtown Huntsville. We stopped in during the day for a coffee and learned that they morf into a bar at night called the Kaffeeklatsch @ Night. We knew we had to come back in the evening to see what was happening. This place is simply great ! On the coffee side, there is a working coffee roaster with large burlap bags of coffee from all over the world laying about. The smell is wonderful (If you like coffee). You can buy coffee from all over the world (Caribbean, South America, Africa and so on). There is No Better Coffee In Huntsville. Period!!! On the other side is a Bar with say tables for say 50-60 people. Most people stand up when it's crowded though.The bar had some coool things in it such as a real velvet elvis, a shark on the wall, a Blue Dog Jazz Festival painting and pictures of musicians who have all played the Kaffeeklatsch @ night. . They have a wonderful bartender (Nichole) behind the bar who met all our needs though the place was busy this particular night. In downtown Huntsville, there are multiple eating and drinking establishments but we liked the Kaffeeklatsch @ night Best. It''s not a big place and would lose its appeal if it was. There is No pretentiousness here. Everyone seem to be enjoying themselves so we decided to jump right in and join them. The Kaffeeklatsch @ Night is one of those places that has a great Vibe to it. We did a few shots, met people from all walks of life and wound up closing the place after listening to night of good music. What a cool neighborhood bar this is; Fun, Friendly, Eclectic and worth a visit. If you are lucky enough to be there on a Sunday Jam night around 8-9pm or so, no telling who is going to come in and jam as musicians love to come in and pick. The Kaffeeklatsch @ night is a Gem. One of the greatest places in Huntsville to get coffee! My favorite thing is the AMAZING selection of beans! We came by before heading back home to Orlando & bought a couple bags (they grind it for you if needed) & fell in love instantly. The employees were super helpful & kind, which made the entire experience even better. A couple weeks ago we ended up visiting their website & found out that we could order more online! The shipping was a little steep, but hey, it's great coffee so I don't mind. It is now a staple in our cupboard! read more

If you like McDonald' coffee, then this place might be for you. If you are like me and think that McDonald's coffee tastes like it was made from ground-up fireplace embers, then maybe you should consider elsewhere. I went here on 24 Jan 2017, and asked about any light-roasted whole bean coffees. The person at the roaster said, "we don't do light roasted coffees". That's for sure! I bought some anyway that they recommended and took it home to make some pour-over coffee. The first thing I noticed when brewing it was the smell of burn, and carbon. Bad sign. Needless to say, it tasted terrible. They also have a pot of brewed coffee available at the counter. (Why they have only one variety available when they boast of selling ~15 different kinds of gourmet beans is beyond me. Can't they grind up some beans, brew some coffee, and let you try some of their other varieties???) Unfortunately for me, this store's incompetence in roasting coffee extends over to brewing it as well, when the coffee I tasted came up tasting overwhelmingly sour (under extracted). This was not the nice, sharp well-balanced acidity of of a bright central american coffee, but rather something that made me think more of sour milk. Someone ought to tell these people about total dissolved solids and getting an appropriate extraction ratio. I had to pour the stuff out. Not everyone in the world lives for Russian Imperial Stouts, extra-hopped IPAs, super tannic Cabernet Sauvignons, and sriracha sauce drowning their food. Those of us that like subtler things Pinot Noirs and nice Belgian triples would best stay away from this place. read more
