I had heard there were gorges & caves to explore different from other trails nearby along with beautiful pines and waterfalls. It exceeded all my expectations! It says this is a 1 mile loop hike but be prepared- I walk a 5k daily & this trail kicked my butt in a good way. It was moderately challenging- I went in the rain so it was a bit cooler too. The best advice I could offer is to take a backpack with snacks, another jacket just in case (although i layered up), pack rain pants to help keep me warm in the rain, and shoes with good traction. And plenty of water. Beanies may also be a good option to keep your head warm from the cold. And a portable battery. Also, if you haven't traveled with a car like me..then the Shuttle Connection is a life saver to travel in town. Way cheaper than Uber and fairly quick to transport you wherever you want to go. Also for travelers go back and forth to other states travel by bus is the perfect and most affordable way to travel. This trail offered amazing views, great photo ops, and plenty of additional trails to explore. They also make sure to keep everything maintained and safe for hikers exploring. Everything is well labeled and easy to follow. They do say and I can attest- travelers who have difficulty walking or have walkers etc..this may not be an ideal trail. Also, for younger children this may not be an kdela hike because of how extensive the elevation is. You are climbing a mountain and waterfall elevation. Make sure to look up details on their trail before you plan a trip. But well worth the hike :)

I didn't go on many rides because there were several that only one of my kids wanted to do and my partner and I switched off who went and who waited on the side. So based on first and secondhand experiences, the best rides were probably the log flume and the bumper cars. The Himalaya and the tea cups were maybe a bit tooo spinny for our tastes, but still very good. The monorail/skyway and the carousel were okay. Petting the reindeer was a really cool experience. You need to be patient and let them come around to you. The food (we ate at the Burger Meister food court near the skyway) was very good for theme park food. I liked that there was a long list of options and the process was fairly easy to navigate. We got the chicken tenders, hot dogs, and mac and cheese, and it was all pretty good. Ultimately, though, I think the Christmas theme is what does this park in. For me it gets pretty tired pretty quickly as a theme so unless you're really a Christmas fanatic, I don't think it's as interesting a place as even, say, Storyland. Then again, I'm Jewish, so what do I know.

We have been using squirt guns for the past 13 years. It's a family tradition, and we have never had an issue. The Clark Bear employee then began taking pictures on his own personal cell phone of our children, 6 and 8, in their bathing suits. This is absolutely disturbing and disgusting !!! There were about 5 people total in the water park. I came to tell the kids to come back to room in 15 minutes. A young lifeguard confronted me and said I didn't have a wristband. As I was in my street clothes and about 10 feet from the door, I informed her that I wasn't swimming and just came to tell the kids something. I also told her that I did have a wristband in my room and I was not walking back. She decided to make this the hill she would die on and continued the tirade. She was very persuasive and convinced me never to go back here again. I will gladly spend my money at Great Wolf Lodge, which is 100 times better and the staff treats customers respectfully.

For me, the Polar steel coaster was too small and I didn't have enough leg room so knee hit the seat in front of me, then that padded bar punched me in the gut at the end. But the wooden coaster made up for that! I had much more leg room and the bar that holds you in was much bigger and didn't punch. Whew! I will say that overall the wooden coaster was more fun, though it does jerk you around more side-to-side. (I had really been looking forward to both coasters and the water rides!) The bamboo log type flume water ride was probably my favorite. I wasn't expecting that, but could have done it twice (and I'm 64)! The gentleman working the ride graciously helped me in/out of the "log" as it is moving the whole time and your feet get wet too, so it is tricky getting out. I thanked him a lot! I appreciated that Story Land provided free cubbies at each ride so we could stow eyewear and dry clothes etc. in totes/backpacks we brought along because no way would you take those on the rides. Many people brought a wagon with them and next time, we'll do that. I took a small canvas tote with a dry change of clothes, towel, and water shoes. I bought one drink and kept the cup to refill with water. I bought our whole family lunch and it was about what we spend at a full service restaurant ($150 for 7). All in we had an amazing day and I was exhausted by the end. All three granddaughters had a blast! And that's what counts. The beautiful memories.

Actually, it turns out if you know what day you're going to go, it's cheaper to get tickets for Storyland and Living Shores separately - the combo tickets are "any day" passes and carry a premium because of it. By itself, though, the aquarium is very good. Quite a lot of very interesting animals even considering the small size. The main attraction - the thing we were all most impressed with at least - was the large touch tanks. The sharks were apparently sleeping and we couldn't reach the star fish or sea urchins, but the rays, hermit and horseshoe crabs, and the nibble fish were all very active and fun to interact with. I was also impressed with the tortoises and the reef tanks. And for all that, only $20 a ticket. It's by no means the Boston aquarium, but it's definitely well worth it.

They have huge touch tank areas for sting rays, sharks and nibble fish. There is an area to see tortoises up close which our toddler loved. You can feed the tortoises and stingrays for $10 each. Everything is on one floor with large open areas for young kids to run and explore. There is also a sand box area and coloring station. At the coloring station, you can color a sea animal and scan it onto a digital screen which was pretty cool. It is a small aqaurium so you only need about 2 hours.

The great thing about Funtown is that you are fully able to bring in your own food. My family opted for the annual season pass, as we come multiple times a season. If you plan to attend more than once, I highly recommend going the pass route. It pays for itself after 2-3 trips. Does it need updating? Sure, but honestly, it's part of the charm. Go forth and have a good time!

My family and I had a good ol' time at Funtown Splashtown USA when visiting Maine this summer…read more We've never visited this park, and now that our kiddos are taller and can ride all the rides, we thought we would give it a try. We went on a Wednesday at the end of June and it was not crowded at all. My kids had a blast! Right when the park opened we headed to Excalibur and rode it about 4 times to start off the morning. Everyone was so excited to ride it that many times. It's a wooden roller coaster that is a lot of fun. I highly recommend it. We hit all the Funtown rides multiple times. They loved the bumper cars, the vintage car track, the wild mouse, thunder falls log flume (which gets a little bumpy, but it cools you down on that drop), Atmosphere (which is an indoor Sizzler type ride with music and animations, that is the weirdest thing I think I've even seen in my life), and especially Whispering Pines Haunted Hotel. That last one is a dark ride where you have to save people from ghosts. You get a laser type gun to shoot at the targets and keep your score. I'm not sure how accurate they really were, but it was fun none the less. After a pretty "meh" lunch, we headed to the Splashtown area. They have a few water slides, a pool for the kids to swim in, and a little splash pad. The water slides were fun, until I bonked my head goind down Amphitrite's Challenge. You go down head first on a mat and for some reason on one of the turns my head didn't follow along. It hurt pretty bad, and I had one of the EMT's on staff help me out. He was very very nice and gave me an ice pack. I appreciated his kindness as I felt so silly after the event. Overall, we had a fun day exploring Funtown Splashtown USA. If you are looking for something to entertain the kiddos for the day, this is definitely a nice option.

The food selection was AWESOME! Tacos, burritos, blooming onions, fried dough, soup in a bowl, you name it... they had it!!! 4H has a booth as well for more affordable options! Don't tell my doctors! A wonderful 4H petting station that was available for young and BIG kids and it wasn't CROWDED! Shopping was a little bit on the lacking side for a fair... didn't see the vendor with the $10 Patriots sweatshirts... which may or may not be a good thing!!! Plenty of sheep, cows, goats to look at and plenty of photo opportunities!!! ... a little light on horses, bunnies, and chickens... none really for sale (THANK GOODNESS). We did meet a nice gentleman at his horse trailer and he gave us an extensive overview of the Scottish draft horses. I guess they are endangered because horse meat is big in Europe? The big pro of this fair is that it is CROWDED but NOT MOBBED!!! Easy in and easy out... no sitting for hours in traffic just to park your car. I here that free parking is available but we parked in the $8 lot. AFFORDABLE... for 3 adults and 1 child on Sunday it was $23. Soda cans and water were $1 at most places. Average food prices. They had some shows going on as well which we didn't participate. Some room for improvements: * Real bathrooms please * Missing was a lot of the barns with people giving demonstrations * Didn't see any political activists here (that may be a good thing for some people) Overall... a nice afternoon stroll...

Learning to ski as an adult is both thrilling and terrifying. Cranmore delivered just that and more. Lots of greens and blues where I could work on my skills, try trails with escalating difficulty, and still kick back when I just want to enjoy myself and not be a ball of nerves. I also enjoyed the length and variety of their many trails I could traverse. Was happy to have more options than just a quick up and down in a straight line over a full day of skiing. Their main lift was quick and skiers were able to load efficiently. Lots to look at on the way up. The day of my last visit there were several ski competitions going on just next to the lift so it was fun to watch people competing and see spectators make the trek up to watch as well. Ski patrol were out and about and lots of staff available to check in with as needed. The lodge itself had everything I needed... free cubbies to store your stuff, bench seating to change into your boots, adequate table space both up and downstairs to grab a bite to eat, indoor and outdoor gas fireplaces to huddle by, a bar and hot foods, and best of all... a bathroom at the same level as where you can ski up to so no having to navigate stairs in clunky footwear. Drop off area for skis, quick in and out to purchase tickets, simple walk over to a very large parking area. I can't wait to return when the opportunity arises!

My family of four visited Cranmore during the 4th of July weekend. We had fun! It was a lot less…read morecrowded than I expected. There were only two eateries open, so the menu was limited. The mountain coaster was the best part, and we only waited a max of 5 min in line, and ended up riding it 6 times. There was a longer line for the Soaring Eagle zipline and Swing, only because they can only hold a few people at a time. The chair lift had nice views. The trampoline was entertaining, but kinda one note. The inflatable obstacle courses were both scalding hot in the sun and had puddles from rain the night before, so my kids didn't like those. I'd recommend Cranmore Adventure Park for 2-3 hours of fun.
