My best friend and I were on our yearly mom trip in the local area. We were looking for a place on the water and it had seafood. Pirates Cove met our needs and then some. When we arrived we found parking in the crowded lot. But, it was around 7pm so that worked out. Once we parked we walked inside. Its definitely decorated in a busy way, but totally made sense for the theme. We opted for outdoor seating and were seated immediately. Our server was amazing. She was always on the ball making sure our food came out, drinks were filled and we were basically taken care of. In fact every employee we encountered were great from hostess to server, to bar staff. I opted for the cream of crab soup and the Maryland crab soup doubled up together. I tell you, do it! It was so good! Best of both worlds hands down. Both of their soups were fantastic! We shared the green goddess avocado dip. It came with 6 chilled shrimp, naan dippers and the creamy dip. I highly recommend this appetizer especially on a hot day. The cheesy crab toast was a nice change from the typical crab dip. I opted for a crabcake, potato and seasoned vegetables. This was a great option for the day. My friend enjoyed salmon on top of a salad. We finished up with some sweets. They had a lovely lemon blueberry cake along with the fried dough with powder sugar. They were very light. . We loved all of our food. Seriously no complaints one bit. My wife and I decided to take a drive and ended up in Galesville at Pirates Cove. We sat outside in the bar area, which is a really nice place to enjoy a meal right on the water. The hostess seated us at a high-top table, but unfortunately, the table was very shaky. As we were getting settled, we also noticed that the music coming from the speaker directly above us was pretty loud. When our server came over, my wife asked if she could turn it down a little, and she was happy to do so. We ordered our drinks--my wife had iced tea and I had an Orange Crush which was very good. I asked about the crab cake prices and was told it was around $45 for the dinner, about $28 for the sandwich, and around $22 for the crab ball appetizer. When our server came back, my wife ordered the shrimp special. I wanted a BLT with a crab cake added, so I asked how much it would be to add one. I was surprised when she told me it would be $40 to add the crab cake, on top of the $17 BLT. At that price, I decided to order the BLT and the crab balls instead. I put two of the crab balls on my sandwich and we ate the other two separately. Overall, the food was good. My wife really enjoyed her grilled shrimp and rice. My BLT had a nice amount of bacon, but it had way too much lettuce and only one small slice of tomato. Once I removed some of the lettuce and added two of the crab balls to the sandwich, it was actually much better. The crab balls were good, but I still have a hard time understanding $40 to add a crab cake to a $17 BLT. I could see paying around $12 for a nice-sized crab cake added to a sandwich, but $40 seems extremely high. The best part of the experience was definitely the location. Sitting outside on the dock, enjoying the water and having dinner was very nice. Afterward, my wife and I walked out on the dock and watched the sunset. That's the kind of setting that makes you want to sit back and stay awhile. read more

Hadn't been to Pirates Cove in a couple of years after being a weekly regular during sailing season. I had a couple of friends in from Colorado and wanted to expose them to some authentic Maryland seafood on the water without going over to the Eastern Shore. Pirates Cove was the perfect call. Literally dockside in the tucked away town of Galesville, we sat and enjoyed drooling over all the boats. In the winter, there is a great enclosed patio that can be completely opened up in the summer. The dockside bar was closed for the season, but is hopping in the summer months. We ordered a variety of seafood appetizers and main courses to share amongst our group. Everything from the oysters, cream of crab soup, crab cakes, and mussels were perfectly prepared and delicious. Hands down the Cream of Crab soup is IMO the best in the Mid-Atlantic. They also have the half Maryland/half Cream of Crab soup option, which is one of my favorite meals. Everyone is still raving about the food and we have some CO converts from Rocky Mountain Oysters to real Maryland oysters! While the food was outstanding, the service was just as good. Our wait staff did a fantastic job walking through the menu to recommend the best options for a true Maryland seafood feast. It was a wonderful experience and we can't wait to come back. read more

We set outside and the views were beautiful and the service was good!We got the Prince Edward Island Mussels, Captain's Blue Crab Stuffed Flounder with a side salad, Oysters Rockefeller, the Crawfish Étouffée and the Beignets. It was all very tasty! The Creamy Cilantro Lime dressing for the salad is a bit spicy. The restaurant also hand a live performance with a guitarist outside. I will forward to going back. read more

When my sister asked me to go to Pirate's Cove, I first had to recall where it was and then remembered that it was actually just 15 minutes from my house. I couldn't believe it! I'm so glad we went. No place (except maybe top rated Michelin restaurants) is flawless. This 5 star rating is for the best Fish and Chips we have had in this area. They are not kidding when they say it is the Cod Loin. It is a gorgeous cut cooked to perfection and the batter is the right kind (not breaded) We take our own tartar sauce as we find theirs not to our taste. I usually only like butterflied-or fan tail- shrimp for frying. Theirs is the first whole fried shrimp I really like. The cocktail sauce is decent. Fries are good; coleslaw is outstanding. The Crab Balls are very good and consist of recognizable back fin meat. Service is usually good but we had a social butterfly last time who was so busy hob-knobbing that we never got our to go order in. The view is lovely. Ambiance inside is nice. We are fans! read more

I visited Pirates Cove last Thursday, April 2nd, with my kids and grandkids during their spring break, and we had a wonderful experience! I hadn't been to Pirates Cove in years, so I was pleasantly surprised by the renovations. The restaurant felt open, bright, and very welcoming. We really enjoyed the food--especially the crab cake entrée and the cod and chips, which were both delicious. Our server, Kristy, was attentive, friendly, and a true delight. We drove 30+ mins to visit this restaurant based on a friend's (who is a local and frequents here often) recommendation. It took our server appx 10 mins to greet us, despite walking past us multiple times without even acknowledging us. This wouldn't have been as glaring but for the table next to us, who came in after us, were greeted and served immediately even before the entire party was seated. Our server never introduced herself and seemed uncertain (and/or uncomfortable) the entire time she was serving us, though she was very friendly with the remaining tables she was serving. We had to let her know each time we were ready to order the next course instead of her checking on us. Our daughter ordered her meal and we didn't realize until it was brought out (when another server who brought out the food seemed confused when he saw my daughter had an adult meal) that she put it in as a regular meal. The server didn't clarify that it wasn't a kids meal and assumed that our young daughter (9 yo) wanted an adult meal despite her having a kids menu she was coloring. The entire experience was off putting and disappointing. Though this was a highly recommended location, and most of the food ordered was good with the exception of the fish and chips being a bit soggy, we will not be returning based on the lack luster service. The restaurant has outdoor and inside seating and a bar area. We had the Chesapeake flat bread pizza. It was so yummy. The crab dip is the sauce topped with shrimp and cheese. My entree was the crabcake. It had a very good taste and if it wasn't for the veggies and baked potato I probably could of ate 2 of them. We had the fried green tomatoes, half Maryland crab soup and cream of crab soup, house garden salad, crab dip, mini crab cakes/balls, and a baked potato. I need to mention that the scallions I received were dried out. The salad seemed a bit wilted and the tomatoes were mushy. The baked potato was not completely cooked. The waitress quickly took it off the bill and whisked it away with no questions asked. The stars of the cuisine were the crab dip and the mini crap cakes/balls. They were so good and full of flavor.
