Incident at Pirate Cove 11-18-23 Reserved on Oct 25 at 3:15pm Checked to see if everything was still on Nov 16 12:14pm and asked can I bring a cake? Answer-yes but bring plates. I arrived at 12:30pm to set up and the manager on duty and the hostess looked surprise about my meeting. The area was not set up. Other hostess had to set up for us. The manager immediately started disrespectfully and rudely telling me that I had indicated that my meeting was a maybe. I told her no I did not and she showed me the book where she had scratched through my meeting and written maybe there. I told her that she was wrong and she told me to let her talk or my group would not be seated and if I said another word she would put us out. And besides we have until 2:30pm to meet because of another group is coming. I asked could we meet on the other side and she said, "absolutely not". So my meeting was rushed. I felt belittled and disrespected by her and she was very unprofessional and showed no customer service skills. Besides me paying $245.00 for my group, a total of $365 was spent in your place by my group to take out food for themselves. Our group has meet here countless times before but because of this experience we are thinking of making different arrangements. I would like to be compensated due to her actions. They were not necessary and were completely uncharacteristic of how we've been treated in the pass. On November 21, I went back to speak to the owner of Pirates Cove and he was completely dismissive. He was unconcerned about management treating a paying customer disrespectfully and did not want to compensate me in anyway. When I tried to explain the matter, he cut me off and said it was over and he was done. He then left me standing up front and I had to choice but to leave. Due to this experience, my group and I will not be returning to this establishment. In the past, Pirate's Cove has always been a reputable 4establishment and accomadating to groups of all sizes and needs. Pirate's Cove deserves four stars for its food and service quality. Being in the Chesapeake Bay area calls for crab, crab, crab. My wife had an outstanding crab cake (pan-fried), and I loved the crab soup. For an appetizer, we split delicious oysters Rockefeller. The crumbled bacon added on top was tasty but overpowered the taste of the oysters. I had a perfectly cooked blackened flounder. The only foods I would take issue with were the side of "spinach casserole," which was simply a blob of spinach, and the hush puppies, which I thought were too dense and sweet. The servers were attentive throughout the meal. The ambiance was casual, and it was not noisy. It was easy to converse despite being fairly crowded on a Saturday night. Last night, baby and I were craving seafood so I went to try this place. My food was super fresh and the waiter was very prompt and kind to us. I ordered crab dip, stuffed mushrooms and built my own platter. Anything with crab in it was stuffed with lump crab so this place is well worth it if your craving crab anything! I'm not too sure how to rate this restaurant. The server and host were very nice and accommodating! The food for the most part was good. Some of the sides weren't great and the prime rib didn't seem seasoned at all somehow. The seafood options that we chose were great though. All in all, the options were pretty good and were good for the prices. The drawbacks that I had was just the cleanliness of the space and floors. We went out on a cold rainy night so we had to be inside. They had a large selection of seafood and a couple of regular items for those who tagged along and didn't like fish. The service was fine but the food was not. The hush puppies and fried fish were really greasy and had still had some raw dough in the center. The onion rings were overly greasy and soft/mushy. It seems like the oil wasn't hot enough. They have a sign in the window: "Line Cook Needed", and I hope they get one soon. Last Saturday I wanted to get a special meal for my mom who is home bound and her caregiver. I placed the order online and was charged for the order as soon as I submitted the order. I arrived at the restaurant at the stated time for pickup from my confirmation email. The very sweet hostess said they didn't have my order and that the owner only has access. I explained that I had already paid for the order and needed to hurry to get back for a dinner that should have been ready for pick up. I showed her the email and she was able to put in a new order and not charge me. I spoke to a manager that said she had no access to the online ordered only the owner. I gave her my name and number so I could speak with the owner. I waited all week for a call and nothing. I had to wait 40 mins for my food after I arrived to pick up my online order that never happened. I paid a service fee for ordering online. The manager there said she couldn't do anything and that the owner would call. I have eaten here many times and have never had an issue like this. Never again read more

I loved, loved the she crab soup. Yes it is pricey but worth it. Loved their fried seafood platter. I chose oysters and scallops. They were NOT over breaded as one review said au contraire they were lightly breaded. The service was above average. I come to Virginia rarely and was here for my sister's funeral but always come back to this restaurant. The owner came out to greet me and give his condolences. What more can you ask for. This place is amazing. The crab soup is outstanding and the service was stellar. Our waitress, Morgan, was so friendly and attentive! She really made our experience. They are taking COVID measures seriously, with customers required to wear masks when not at their tables, and staff wearing masks at all times. This was probably the worst dining experience i have had in a long time. My wife and i went on a Friday evening, restaurant was approximately half full. Ordered an app and waited almost 30 min for that. Then we ordered our entrees and again about 30 min. My food was ice cold, scallops and shrimp, so they offered to redo it. They came back with half of what i sent back. At this point I was done. I waited 35 min for the check. For my main, I got the fish and chips. It came with a side of creamy coleslaw and fries, which were both wonderful. The fries were so crispy! It's hard to branch out to new places, when the old ones perfect! That's Pirates Cove to me! When it comes to seafood it's one of the best in the Chesapeake area! I love the She Crab Soup it's tasty with a hint of sherry and loaded with limb crab meat. The crab dip and pitas are delicious, not too spicy, with a lot of jumbo crab, creamy to perfection! The Oyster Rockefeller is amazing and the combination of bacon, spinach & cheese is popping on my taste buds! My favorite way to eat them is on top of a cracker with a few drops of tobacco...yum! Oysters looked plump, but were all batter and way overly salted. Overall: Average. Been here a few times so it's definitely a one and done place. Sometimes it's really good, and other times it's ok at best. I went last night (around 5pm) and got the she-crab soup and fried combo platter (flounder and shrimp) as well as fries and green beans. The good: prompt seating and the food was brought out in a reasonable time. The bad: my son and I both got the she-crab soup. But it was interesting that they weren't both brought out at the same time. My bowl was hot, but the actual soup was luke warm at best. This would lead me to think that the soup wasn't fresh but was probably heated up via microwave which would explain why our soups weren't delivered at the same time and the bowl was warmer than the soup itself. For my combo, it was delivered with a strip of flounder (with small bones) and only four shrimp and a couple of hush puppies. I guess for $25 I would've expected more shrimp. My son got the fried flounder meal and there was a distinct difference in the two fish as well as taste. Almost to the point that I would guess they were different fish and not both flounder. Mine (in the combo) was just ok. The green beans tasted like they were heated up via microwave and the fries tasted and had the texture of sitting under a hear lamp too long. Next the 2 French dips and the Rubin..... NO FISH. At that time the waiter says they burnt the oysters they will put on another order. I told him to forget it. I bit into my Rubin and noticed it was corn beef and not fish. He reordered my sandwich. By that time I was really not in the mood to eat. He came back to refill the water glasses and overfilled them flooding the table. To top off our experience the staff was craw around on the floor chasing a lizzard through the dining room. My first time here ....our waiter and waitress was awesome, Very accommodating for our large group. Had the $13.99 Sunday fish fry special. They give you plenty of fish like 7-8 good sizes, granted it was pollock. Comes with two sides & hush puppies. And from what my other party had they give you plenty of food for the price. Places that have fairly large portions are typically trying to overcompensate for shortcomings in the quality of food. That's definitely not the case here. Though I've never actually finished a meal here, I've never had a bad one either. They've got a pretty classic no-frills seafood restaurant menu. I find myself partial to the broiled crab cakes. The sauteed spinach is rich and savory - a bit of an indulgence really. The baked apples, while technically a side, would more than suffice for a dessert.... for two! My mother had frequented there before and she tried the spinach casserole for the first time. When the food came to the table I was pleasantly surprised by the portions of everything. I mean my sandwich was huge and blackened to perfection. The tuna was juicy and spicy, but not overwhelming at all. My mother let me taste her spinach casserole and I wanted to eat the whole thing. It was to die fore. It was perfectly cheesy and unctuous if you will. So because we loved the food the first time We came back the next week. This time I got the crab dip. It was just chocked full of lump crab and warm and gooey. A true indulgence. This time I ordered the spinach casserole and it was not the same. I did keep tasting it to figure out what made it different. This time they had to have used canned spinach opposed to frozen or fresh because it was extremely slippery in texture and even metallic tasting.
