First time trying. A bit confusing when you come in. Was it a bar? Was it a restaurant? Was it both? Very loud inside and limited seating as it is definitely a bar more than a restaurant. Red Bones Raw Bar & Seafood Grille has me scratching my head for a number of reasons. To start, for a raw bar, all I saw on the menu were oysters, dozen for $21, 1/2 dozen for $11. Most of the other seafood items were fried or grilled. And when I say most, I mean all. On the Friday night when I came, they had live music in the main bar where I dined. There is also a smoking bar which has pool tables and a juke box. The place main bar was packed. There is also an outside area. I would consider this a dive bar, but for a dive bar the food is approaching gourmet. On this occasion I had a dozen oysters. The oysters were fresh, but only half were shucked. The cocktail sauce that came with it was partially frozen and tasted a little old, and the horse radish had no flavor. Also had the fish dip, which was quite amazing. It was a cheesy seafood party in my mouth. Was also observing the food which was coming out for the other patrons and it all looked scrumptious. I have to come back with more of an appetite. So here is why the five stars. The service was super awesome and the place was slammed. The drinks were so reasonable, Titos drink for $6.50, well vodka drink for $4, and they have craft beer on draft. So here you have a dive bar with reasonably priced drinks and good food. First time here and immediately when we arrived it was such a great environment, live music, busy bar and great vibes. We got the chicken tenders and the french dip. Hubby said the chicken was one of his favorites. The french fries were a little cold but the waitress got him fresh ones which was amazing! The french dip was delicious and the au ju is one of the best i've had. The only thing is that they put a garlic butter on the bread when they toast it. I'm a big garlic lover but holy garlic, if you aren't a fan of garlic i would definitely get it without the garlic in the butter because it's pretty extreme. It was kind of hard to tolerate the amount of garlic. Otherwise I really like this place and would definitely come back but would take the garlic butter off the french dip! read more

FIRST TIME HERE! Was told by my Sister that they had the best food and specifically the best Wings. Her favorite in Hampton Roads! Greeted as soon as I sat down at the bar by the bartender - she was quick! Got a cold beer and ordered wings (of course had to see what the sister hype was about :)). Ordered one of the specials - English Dip (prime rib sandwich w/ au jus) and I picked rice and beans as a side. For the wing sauce I wanted something spicy but not burn your face off... she recommended "Da Bone" and she was spot on. Beware! The Wing Appetizer is a meal!! 10 wings and fresh crispy and cold celery! She warned me I'd be taken some food home.... The wings were super fresh, not breaded with a good amount of sauce, and were nice and hot, fresh out of the fryer. The bartender told me they'd be about 17 minutes because they make them fresh and she was spot on. The English Dip special was really good. The prime rib was cooked perfectly medium rare, so if you want something different, just ask. The au jus for dipping had a great beef taste with onions. Very good. The side of rice and beans was delicious. Had a little shredded cheese on top with a small dollop of sour cream. It also was a nice hot temperature. Beans were moist and juicy as well as the rice. Overall great experience! This is definitely a hopping locals spot, but as the bartender told me they love new people! This year will be their 20th year in business there! They also are just finishing up a nice looking red roof. There are 3 different areas that she explained to me: 1. The billiard, darts, game room w/ gambling machines. They also do poker on Monday nights. 2. The bar, table and booth area 3. Outdoor patio. She said the tent will go up 1st week in March. If you haven't stopped in, you have to check it out! Came here on a whim. We wanted to try out a new joint so me and hubby said why not! This place is located at the corner of Battlefield and Kempsville rd in Greenbrier and it is a very busy corner of the the city so be careful if you are trying to turn in here. We walked in and immediately got a feel of a old school biker/bar and restaurant. It took a while for the waitress to help us and I think it was because she was the bartender and waitress. We tried the fried chicken wrap, OMG, I have to come back for the same wrap again, so so so good! My partner had friend shrimp, those were also good, fresh and really big. The fries were something special... excellent! The patio is really big and there is enough space from each table, good for COVID-19 and for practicing social distancing. Some waitress used masks, some don't (but I guess you can ask your to wear the mask for safety). Service was excellent nonetheless. Very kind people. We also liked the touchless payment option. I went for a visit with my husband to meet up with his high school friends and have dinner. This is an old school kind of bar. What I mean is they do allow smoking, so beware. The non-smoking side of the restaurant only has 1 stall bathrooms per gender. The smoking section of the restaurant is on the other side of the Red swinging doors. It has its own entertainment including pool tables and high top tables. I'm a former smoker of 5 years (by the end of this month) and I just scurried through because I needed to use the restroom. Anyways, we went this past Friday and it was not too crazy busy. There is a patio area outside as well. The staff seemed really friendly, our server was a sweetheart. I had the French dip. My wife and I were checking out local dives & diners and came here based on the number of positive Yelp reviews. It did not disappoint! Unfortunately, the day we went here, they were having an issue with their exhaust vent and were unable to serve any fried foods due to the smoke it created in the kitchen. With that being said, we went with the cajun style tuna bites and the steak sandwich. The tuna bites were served with a few different sauces, including Wasabi. It was an excellent dish! My wife's steak sandwich was actually slices of steak and it too was outstanding. The place has a cool, motorcyle crowd, local vibe to it. It felt like everyone there knew one another. They have a daily specials board and daily happy hour. The wait staff was friendly and very busy. Normally they have a shrimp special for $10.95 (friend or steamed) every Saturday. There is a separate smoking section (grandfathered in) and is separated by two swinging doors. I've got a crazy sense of smell and I did not smell smoke until I went to the restroom, which is right next to it. Everyone there was super friendly. Lots of beer selections, as well as a full bar. When my boyfriend found this place for us to go have dinner with a friend I was actually super excited because of how close it was to my house and the good reviews I saw! First, this restaurant is in a really odd spot and very easy to miss! Not their fault though, and plus parking was not an issue. They had daily specials that were written up on the board but nothing really appealed to me so I took a look at the menu instead. They offer a lot of seafood so I decided to try the she crab soup and the "famous grouper Sammy". One thing to note is they do offer a raw bar which is great if you don't want to head all the way out to the oceanfront for some fresh raw seafood! The she crab soup was pretty good but came out lukewarm which made it a little clumpy and less enjoyable than I would have liked. The sandwich was HUGE and super crispy! My boyfriend ordered the wings with red bone sauce and he was pleasantly surprised with how much he liked the sauce! He got the sweet potato fries for his side which came out burnt, unfortunately. My friend ordered the calamari for us to share and it was nice and crispy but lacked flavor. I have had better elsewhere. One thing that bothered me throughout the meal was that the family of 6 at the table next to us constantly kept putting their dirty dishes on the other end of our table and using our ketchup and other condiments which I felt was a little disrespectful. It's a little distracting trying to enjoy good food with half-eaten plates sitting one seat away from you! :( Service here was mediocre. Our waitress seemed to rush us on choosing food by coming back every 2 minutes asking if we "finally" decided. Then at the end of the meal she ended up taking 20 minutes to get our cards back to us after we paid. Overall, I really wish the experience here was better because I enjoyed my fish sandwich very much and my boyfriend enjoyed his wings! To be fair my husband would give this place four stars, maybe even five, but since I'm writing the review, we'll go with my rating. The food was decent enough. We got potstickers as an appetizer, which were similar to what you can get at the grocery store freezer aisle. Which is not to say that they were bad; that's just what they tasted like. I got a blackened cod sandwich; it didn't taste bad but I wish there was something to make it stand out. I'm not even sure if there were any condiments on it; maybe there was some mayo? If there was, it was an extremely thin layer. My husband had lobster "mac n cheese" (it was actually penne), and he could not get enough of it! He said that he loved the choice of cheese that they paired with the lobster; he said it was a good bold choice that ensured the flavor of the lobster didn't wash out the cheese flavor. I think it was a little on the salty side. It's kind of a small place. There was a solo musician playing a guitar in the corner. He and his music were nice enough, but I wish that they turned the amp down a little since my husband and I were literally yelling to talk to each other all night. The food is seriously not good at all-we we're gravely disappointed and this maybe some of the food reviews were based on people having multiple drinks prior to eating- the mashed potatoes were super dry and crumbly, the steak was wildly over cooked- it was just really terrible and for the price even more disappointing- but the staff were very very nice. My husband and I went to Red Bones last night for dinner. It was our 51st wedding anniversary. We had a gift card that I got for Mother's Day and I had been wanting to try this place because I had heard the food was really good. We had no problem getting a parking place on Saturday night at 6:15. They have outdoor seating, but we chose to sit inside. There were plenty of tables available, as a lot of people were outside. Our waitress came to our table right away and took our orders. I ordered fried shrimp with French fries and Cole slaw and my husband ordered fried oysters with French fries and Cole slaw. I also ordered a bowl of she crab soup that I figured I would be taking home because I love she crab soup. Our dinners were very good and the service was very good. However, I have to say that was the worst she crab soup I have ever eaten. I knew it was going to be bad when I put my spoon in it and it was very watery. There was barely any crab in it and I don't know if they used powdered milk in it or what, but it had some kind of a chalky taste to it. It came with two pieces of garlic bread. I had ordered the bowl instead of the cup because I wanted to enjoy it the next night for dinner. The bowl cost $11. I wouldn't have minded paying the $11 if the soup had been good, but it was just horrible. I read other reviews on here and other people had a different experience with the she crab soup than I did. Maybe the chef was just having an off night or something, but the soup was definitely not creamy and had very little crab in it. I would go to this restaurant again and I would recommend it to other people. Just stay away from the she crab soup. read more

I have been Here to eat a few times and hung out for some drinks. The food can be quite a pleasant surprise . The specials are varied and usually include a lot of things made from scratch not to mention hand made ice creams. The number of times I have been here the hand made pasta dishes stood out for very good reasons. That being said it's a bar so it can get kind of hectic at times also but it really depends what time you go. I have become pretty much a regular here and the specials are always worth a try, with amazing flavors you just aren't expecting from a location like this. We walked in Friday evening around 9 and couldn't figure out if we sat ourselves, so we went to the bar... bartender said we find a seat and wait for a server, so we ordered drinks and then found a table... asked for a menu from someone cleaning up tables... watched three different servers wait on the tables around us...
