We dined at this restaurant with a group of friends. For appetizers my bride had the mussels and I had the French pinion soup. For our entrees, I had the seafood platter, my bride had the shrimp scampi. Finally for dessert we shared a slice of the caramel cheesecake. THE ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant is on the water with bar seating and white cloth table dining in several rooms. If you're looking for seaside dining Pirates Cove will suite you fine. THE FOOD: Our appetizers... My French onion soup was made like a traditional French onion soup with plenty of melted cheese and oodles of onions. There were plenty of mussels bathed in a delicious white wine and butter base for my brides mussels appetizer. Our entrees... My seafood platter featured a small serving of white fish, which was nice and juicy, two small stuffed shrimp, which were quite tasty, two scallops made properly (not under cooked and slimy or overcooked and rubbery). My brides shrimp scampi featured 5 small shrimp over a bed of linguine. The dish was well made with hints of garlic and butter in the balanced cream sauce. The dessert: Our caramel cheesecake dessert was creamy and rich. THE SERVICE: It's always a challenge for a server to serve large parties, but our server did great. Delivered our drinks in a timely fashion watched over us for any needed refills and clearly explained any questions we had. THE BOTTOM LINE: As always with my reviews, the "customer so what" would I return is complicated for the Pirates Cove. My answer... probably not. Why not if the food was prepared properly, the ambiance was fitting for a seafood restaurant and the service was fine? The answer lies in serving size, price and add on charges. I don't mind paying premium prices for a premium meal but Pirates Cove charged $40 for a seafood platter that should more realistically be called a seafood sampling. At $36 My wife's shrimp scampi should have featured large shrimp instead of the small shrimp she received. And, finally, the add on prices which included a 3% service charge and a whopping 21% tip. I don't mind tipping heavily for good service and our server would have probably gotten 25% if it was my choice. However, I HATE having a restaurant dictate what I'll tip! I understand mandatory tipping for a large party but I've never seen it set at 21%! As for the service charge, it was placed on every bill whether you paid with a credit card or not. One of my guests asked if that was a credit card fee (which I hate as well) and was told if he paid cash, our servers would take that fee off. How many people didn't know enough to ask that question, and end up paying that fee when paying with cash?? I hate underhanded trickery like that and discourage it by not returning. In summary you'll have to ask yourself before dining at Pirates Cove, is the food, ambiance and service quality worth the rest? If it is, enjoy. As for me, I'll skip it. There are too many other great seafood places that will provide quality dining, great service and atmosphere without the unwelcome luggage included. read more

So I took my family there the other night and my wife ordered the lobster was absolutely wonderful deal nice pound and a half lobster pound and a quarter for 25 bucks and my sister ordered a salad which was nice size and then I ordered the baked seafood platter and it was ridiculously small two medium stuffed shrimp one medium scallop and one small scallop about 2 ounces of fish supposedly grouper would seem to be a little bit light in flavor for grouper $40 an a whole bunch of fries so very disappointing. The seafood was gone in five bites however we complain to the management when he looked at the dish after eaten the small scallop so what do you want us to do seafood is very expensive now, but he comped me a drink and a dessert which was not necessary. I just wanted something to eat with that being said everything else was good for my wife and my sister. I came here with my family on a Friday night and we were seated pretty quickly. The service was alright but the food and the ambiance was wonderful. Down stairs was a little questionable as it got later we just wont bring the kids down there next time lol it's definitely more of a locals watering hole later in the evening. But with that being said, it was only us and another table. We showed up at 9:30 with music supposed to go until 1am (ended at 10:30) * Macaroni and cheese was supposed to have lobster which it did not, I should have sent it back. The meal entirely was compatible to the mac n cheese instant cups and it being over cooked and dried out. * French Onion Soups were said to be too salty * One of our parties meals was so delayed in being brought out we were half done with eating. Bartender Julie appeared to have a political bias, being anti-Trump. All her conversations leaned far left. The music playlist consisted entirely of grunge and heavy metal, with her listening closely and cueing every lyric. This is a waterfront venue that claims to be politically neutral and welcoming. The restaurant has such a great location over looking the water. You have nice outdoor and indoor seating. The downstairs has live music playing. If you don't want to listen to the music, the inside is sound proof. We arrived by boat, so there is plenty of dock space. The menu was your typical food options; nothing to write home about. I ordered a chicken wrap that was pretty boring. The Mahi bites were pretty good covered in that sauce. The service wasn't that great. This place to me is a stop and go on the way to a better restaurant. When we did arrive, there was a hard rock band playing live that was horrific and gave me a headache. All I heard was bass and not much of the words. It was so horrible, that I would rather listen to 5 year olds banging on pots and pans then listen to them ever again. I'm giving this restaurant two stars because of its location, not because of its service, and definitely not for its food which should have earned it one. This the first time we have eaten there since before COVID. It may be the last. My wife and I ate there tonight on the deck overlooking the water. Prime location, except for the constant patron traffic passing back and forth by our table between the dining area and the bar with no apparent motive except to stretch their legs. Last night, we ate at The Grove in Hobe Sound. The difference between the two restaurants was like the difference between McDonalds and a fine steak house like Peter Lugers. But, The Grove cost only $20. more, and that dinner included wine, excellent food and outstanding service. My wife and I both chose the shrimp stuffed with crab for our entrees. It's a menu item the restaurant used to have quite regularly, but then dropped. They have brought it back, and it is a passable dinner item. For starters, our waitress, Desiree was very nice and tried hard to please. But, she was new and obviously had not been properly trained. My wife ordered a caesar salad (side salad size) as an appetizer. Apparently the restaurant doesn't offer such an item. Desiree didn't explain the salad we ordered would be a dinner size salad. I ordered clam chowder as an appetizer. As I don't care for cold slaw which came with the shrimp, I asked for a side of mashed potatoes as my side dish for which I was willing to pay. That BLOB of mashed potatoes (for that's what it was) cost $5.00. And, it didn't even come with butter. I can't begin to describe our surprise and bewilderment when ALL the food came out at once. Dinner size salad, our entrees and my soup appetizer. All I can write about my Boston clam chowder is that if it had been present in Boston in 1775, King George III would never have fought to keep the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It tasted more like bacon chowder than clam chowder. In fact, I'm not sure if there was even a piece of clam in it. Desert was a passable pineapple upside down cake which was delivered several minutes after the bill. The bill by the way came with a 3.5% "convenience fee". Bottom line - diner beware! read more

I seldom ever write a bad review, but my infuriating wait at lunch was too much to take without writing a review. 13 ladies from the Garden Club had reserved tables at Pirates Loft for lunch. We have been eating lunches once a month for over 20 years. Never once has anyone not asked and understood that we would be having individual checks. Just a common routine in Florida with older ladies who prefer to pay individually for their lunch/dinner. We all completed our lunch at 2:00 pm precisely. Then the wait began. I finally signed my check at 2:57pm. Can you imagine waiting an entire hour for a simple Cobb Salad/Tea lunch? It was beyond frustrating. A total hour to receive our checks. On a more positive note, I did not hear complaints about the food. My Cobb Salad was huge and very fresh but after waiting for an entire hour, who really cares. There appeared to be adequate staff, but apparently no one knew how to use an abacus to total our checks individually. Probably one of our worst group lunches.....ever. We will never return as a group and I doubt no individuals would ever return. read more

Let me start by saying that we're kind of a captive audience for this restaurant because we're staying at their hotel. A great experience, BTW. We had dinner there last night and were told by the hostess that we couldn't sit at a table by the railing overlooking the water because those were only for parties of 4 (we are 2). Seemed reasonable, no arguments here, until they sat 3 parties of 2 at those tables as we ate. I asked the hostess about it, and she literally told us "I really don't think it's a big deal." That comment, which we received after our seriously crappy meal, left us ready to write this review. But then came breakfast. Thinking positive thoughts, we walked our hungry selves back to the hotel restaurant for another go. The food was just SO bad. Even the mimosas were terrible. But the worst was that the price on the bill was higher that the menu for 4 items. They corrected it but told us they raised the prices a few months ago and we were the first people who caught it. (I seriously doubt that!) What's perplexing is that she said they are pulling all the menus today and replacing them. If the menus are printed and ready to be used then why aren't they already in use? read more

Would not recommend if Amy is the manager on duty... Quite honestly, I would probably walk out if I ever go in there again and she was on duty... terrible attitude, lack of attention to detail, allowing the staff to congregate in the service area and horse play (pictures available upon request). 1st time trying this restaurant. I had the she crab soup and than the conch fritters( the fryer oil seemed old). Both tasted good. If I return I would definitely have that's again. I than had the mahi mahi catch blackened.. I was very happy with my food. My son ordered the chicken fingers. They were also fried in the same old oil. My wife and daughter wanted to try the chicken avacado wrap, but on a Kaiser roll. The waitress put it in the kitchen and apparently the cook didn't see the modification and the chicken sandwich came out as a wrap. I said to the waitress that it was wrong and she was able to take it to the kitchen before it was placed on the table.. the waitress Marissa came back out crying because the cook yelled at her. She told me that apparently she " isn't allowed to make changes. ( no mention of no modification being allowed on the menu). If this is how the staff is treated I WILL NOT be coming back and I will make sure I spread the word! After the check was dropped the waitress couldn't be found. After several attempts from the food runner to get my waitress to come out of the restroom where she was crying, I finally sent my wife into the restroom to give her ,her tip. Just had Easter Mid Day Lunch/Dinner and we didn't have a good experience and I believe management is the problem. Food was average at best but the music playing on the lower level was LOUD and distracting to anyone trying to have an Easter dinner. We were a party of 4 and couldn't have a conversation on the upper level. Service was friendly but the server was inexperienced but attentive. Why they had a LOUD DJ type entertainment is a good example of bad judgement by Management. For a busy Sunday most tables were empty and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. I've been living in the port Salerno area for about 6 years and visiting for years before that. After going to most of the other places around i felt most comfortable at the pirates cove for a few reasons. They are the view the atmosphere the food and the drinks. And most important is your staff! You constantly manage to employ a staff that is always nice attentive in good spirits and more important professional! I was there a couple of times during the past 2 weeks and saw a couple things that made more than a few of us feel uncomfortable. One a little worse than the other. There was a new manager that we never saw before. She was having a coconversation with a few people on the other side of the bar and she obviously had no regard to the other customers for what she was saying and how she was saying itfelwe felt awkward. The other incident involved her and One of the bartbartenders. The manager approached her about something that should have been done in private. Not behind the bar where a lot of people could see! Completely unprofessional. Iwe will continue to come there because of those reasons I mentioned before but I hope you replace that manager. Manager had an issue with another customer/table . The server gave my husband the wrong dish which we didn't realize until the table next to us started making a HUGE RUCKUS!! Then we over heard the manager saying she would come over an talk with us. With an attitude she came to our table an said you expect a dish that you didn't order. I said. We order scallops didn't really pay attention to how they came seeing everybody at our table was already served. So my husband started eating them then the waiter brought out more scallops. NOT A BIG DEAL!!!!!!!! The table next to us started make comments. It was VERY OBVIOUS IT WAS TOTALLY ON US !!!!!!! When the manager confronted us we offered to pay for the table next us and the order we didn't order because we were SO EMBARRASSED ! She said I'm so mad at them.
