We were so excited to visit Pirates Deck after the long wait to reopen and I can't say the experience quite met our expectations. While service was incredible and the vibes would be perfect for a warm sunny day, our meals were hit or miss. The appetizers were good, but we thought the portion sizes weren't aligned with the cost. The BLT and chicken Philly were great. As a nacho connoisseur, these were underwhelming- you can make better at home. If we go back, we would sit outside due to an incredibly loud and obnoxious squeak on a heavily used door. read more

Was recommended by a local. Great easy lunch option on oak island. The staff was very kind with my takeaway order for my group letting me know how long it will take and getting everything I needed. It has indoor and outdoor seating. It was nice they didn't close between lunch and dinner like other restaurants around. read more

We DO NOT RECOMMEND this place! The Mushroom Swiss Burger, Fried Pickles, and Homemade Chips were alright! The Pirate's Steam Pot was mainly garbage, the crab legs weren't bad, the Clams were the smallest I've ever seen and you only get 4( 1 was missing)! The Steamed Oysters were definitely rotten! As well as the Raw Oysters! We were told they get them fresh everyday and that because I "ate" some, they wouldn't take it off! They were in the napkin on the table! The manager wouldn't even come over and talk to us and only took off a discounted amount of the raw oysters I didn't eat! Our Waitress was great though, she did great refilling drinking, making sure we were okay, and apologized about the food we got! I believe her name was Kristen or Kirsten! She's the reason that this review has 2 stars instead of 1 star! Thank You to our waitress! The food really is not bad overall. But the kitchen is lacking. We waited 1 hr and 40 minutes and still did not have our food and really got the run around and not an apology given. The deviled crabs were frozen in the middle. They took them back to kitchen and 20 minutes later brought them back out and they were still cold. By that time we were just over it. Went the 2nd time for dinner with the family and the service and drinks were still great. However the food was extremely disappointing. My son asked for his ribeye sandwich to be medium rare and he got it well done. The meat was most fat and tendons. My shrimp po boy consisted of POPCORN shrimp that you buy from the frozen section of the grocery store! I couldn't believe it. I've never been to a place on the Island or Southport that did not have hand battered or grilled fresh shrimp. Unbelievable. I'll be back for a drink, but that's about it. read more

This restaurant looks like a themed cafeteria. The service was incredibly slow and the servers indifferent. When our food arrived, it was very sub-par. My friend and I ordered the flounder basket. The flounder was dry and filled with bones. Of our sides, both the coleslaw and the fries the meal came with seemed like they came from a grocery store frozen section. The server forgot to bring both of us our hush puppies. Another member of our party ordered a 12 oz sirloin which came clearly overcooked. 0/5 stars. Do not go here. read more

Went to pirates deck for casual dinner. Can't tell you how the food was because after two hours, it never came! Waited over 30 minutes to get seated. Plenty of empty tables. Didn't seem that busy. After ordering, the waiter told us the kitchen was backed up and he had to wait to put in our order. After an hour or so, we ask if we could get chips and salsa while we waited, they never came. After another hour, we asked if the cook had started our order yet. He said no, so we left. Totally, ridiculous! read more

We were exited to see it back open. Went to have drinks. Once we told the waitress we were not eating they didn't seem to want to seat us at a table. We got the impression that we were an inconvenience. We sat down and it seemed no one was interested in taking our order. It was a slow night so I am not sure why there was an issue of us sitting at a table instead of the bar. We left and went to Paul's where we always have great service. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. Let me start by saying it takes a lot for me to write a negative review but our experience at Pirates Deck on 10/25/2024 warranted a review. The restaurant was close to our rental so I viewed a menu online to insure they had a raw bar for my brother-in-law. Also, the menu had very reasonable prices. A dozen raw or steamed oysters was $16.99. Their Admiral's Seafood Combo was also $16.99. So we get to the restaurant and the prices I saw online are more than doubled now. Important lesson: Do not trust pricing online from a third party site. The entertainment was really good and there was no wait so we decided to stay. The waitress did an okay job taking our drink orders and then our food orders. We are used to sitting down and the waitress showing up with a basket of hush puppies and butter. Not here, unless you pay $5.99. Then we waited over an hour for our food!! One of us ordered a cup of seafood chowder, which usually comes before the main entree. Not here! We never once heard from the waitress over the hour we were waiting. No refilling our water or apologizing for the long wait or bringing out the chowder early. Once the food did come we were very disappointed with the quality and quantity. And still no apology for the long wait. My brother-in-law's raw oysters were so tiny he finished a dozen in no time. Mind you, the price was $36.99! My $25 fried oyster basket had 9 or 10 tiny fried oysters and two overcooked hush puppies. The whole plate was then covered with overcooked French fries. The side of slaw looked good but tasted like cabbage and mayo. There was absolutely no flavor. It took forever for the waitress to bring our checks. I have learned to have my credit card ready. When she did come, I immediately handed her my card. She never bothered to let me know there was a 4% charge to use a credit card!!!! It was printed on the check but since I gave her my card immediately, I did not see it. I have never been to a restaurant that charged a fee to use a card. The only positive of the night was the entertainment. It was a guitarist with a nice singing voice who reminded me of Edwin McCain. Final lesson: There are many seafood restaurants in the area and I should have done more research before choosing just based on location. read more

Love Love Love this place. The food is delicious, but the chicken tenders were awesome. The owners are the most wonderful people. They have endured so much since covid, and I'm so happy they remained strong and kept the faith. They have redecorated, and it is beautiful, one of my most favorite places to go. read more

Oh my! we waited to go and eat after the grand opening. We went on Monday night to this place after all the great comments we were excited to try Pirates Deck! First off when you order a high ball don't bring it in a plastic cup! We were inside, Then you ask for a Moscow Mule and you wait no drinks and then the waitress comes mmm no ginger beer so no Mules! Ok how about a Lemon Drop!??? We wait for 15 min for drinks, we see them setting on the bar and they look wrong! SOO I get a Lemon Drop! And its clear not lemony just straight Vodka with a slice of lemon on the top of the glass! WTH. I am not James Bond I didn't order a Vodka Martini! LOL! I had to go up to the bar to have some simple syrup and lemon juice added. "Hey new bar tender there are great apps to tell you how to make drinks." At least it was served in a martini glass!. Then the hushpuppies come, they aren't not even hot! What? have they been setting for a while? They bring the honey butter and it is so hard you have to use a spoon to get it out if the plastic container. Hushpuppies are so cold they don't even melt the hard butter. The hushpuppies have been cooked in oil that taste like onion and garlic! Yuck! Ok let's see if the food is good! A Cheeseburger and BLT is ordered. How can you screw up a Burger and BLT? We are waiting and eaiting and wanting water that they forgot to bring after we ask for it! mmmm here she comes now "no Bacon?"!!! So opt for Ham! Then the food comes! BLT is not toasted the substitute deli ham is grilled and sooo salty you can only eat two bites. The Cheeseburger has mmmmm no CHEESE realy she wants to take it back after we have waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes. No I will eat it with no cheese. No condiments just a dry burger. YUK! THIS PLACE WAS HORRIBLE. I WILL SAY THE STAFF WAITRESS AND CLEAN UP CREW WERE REALLY TRYING! KITCHEN AND BAR STAFF SUCK. I don't know if we would recommend or ever go back to this place an hour and 20 minutes just to get a dry burger and crapy BLT! Don't waste your money. We ordered a dozen wings for take out. We wanted the sauce on the side. We were charged more than the menu price because we wanted the sauce on the side. Then there was an added service fee for using a card that wasn't disclosed. We got home and had no sauce and it took them 30 minutes to screw up the order completely.
