Pirates Landing in Elkin, NC
Angela S.

I brought a special pirate friend with me. We had the broiled seafood platter and chocolate cheesecake dessert. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was fun. It's nice to see a place go the extra mile in making everything look so fun. Loved the treasure chest, and how the inside looks like a ship, with decks on different levels. The weather was perfect outside too. It would be really to eat out on the deck. Maybe they'll have outdoor eating in the future.

We were in the area visiting wineries and decided to pop back in to Pirates Landing for dinner. It's been a while since we were last here. We were seated immediately and our server quickly took our order (a good way to soak up the wine!). I went "all in" and got the "Buccaneer's Fried Seafood Feast". Not necessarily healthy, but some serious comfort food! Our food arrived quickly, super hot, and was very tasty! This is a true family-style restaurant.

Pirate's Landing Elkin NC It seems that Theofanis K. Kakouras made a great decision in opening Pirate's Landing in Elkin, NC. No doubt there is an art and science to staffing this property in NC mountains. Outstanding: Dinner salad, fresh baked bread, service and tonight Pirate's Pasta - linguine, marina, shrimp, scallops, clams, and mussels. Kakoura does not skimp on the shrimp and other seafood. My darling wife would greatly enjoy this pasta dish. Leah, our accomplished server is a great ambassador for Pirates Landing, and we suggest that Kakoura offer tastings to servers in order for them to offer recommendations. Pirate's Landing is a faux pirate ship, and is large with several dining areas. Suggest hostess stay on task and not stray. Pirate's Landing is a great venue for kids and their parents. We appreciate the large on-site parking lots. Menu features a variety of seafood at very interesting prices. Initially, I was thinking three stars, and as evening came together awarded five stars. Pirates Landing is walking distance from our hotel, Marriott Fairfield Inn, but most diners will be happier to take the one mile drive. Thanks Theo; We'll be back.

You figure a place like this is gonna be either really great or really meh. Well it was really great! The atmosphere is spot on and fun. I had read in other Yelp reviews that the hush puppies were good. I consider myself something of a hush puppy connoisseur and they did not disappoint. I ordered the William Kidd, which is a piece of flounder alongside popcorn shrimp. Both the flounder and the shrimp were perfectly cooked and delicious. The baked potato was a nice accompaniment. We left full and satisfied and planning to return with family.

Inside is great

I remember going here when I was little and just being in complete amazement at how cool this restaurant is, the outside of the building and the inside gives you an old pirate ship vibe, which is so cool!! It makes you feel like you're eating at a restaurant at the beach lol. The food is always amazing and the service is great!

Another interior visual poignantly placed inside that exact befits the outside of the Ships @Sea in amplified Stoic true to Form

Food impeccable, & Fresh even 40 mins prior, PRIOR to Closing ..... Greeted Welcomed as Patron of Long Travel we traveled 1 hour+ just because. it's done well for yrs, I've actually waited 11 yrs to make it there. Today being 60th yr earth bound was the time, & Grandbabies to arrange its visitation. food As I knew it would be exceptional in Quailty, Taste, Golden cooking Time perfect softness, none of it overcooked 1 bit.

During a Pandemic, they have re-opened their business without requiring masks as State mandated…read more They offer multiple arts and craft classes where everyone is sitting at tables close to each other and they do not wear masks, thereby possibly being a part of community spread. When I simply asked whether they participate in mask wearing, Laura, the manager, responded to me in anger and belligerence instead of speaking to me in a professional tone. As a business who wants their business to thrive, they do not seem concerned about their customers' safety. She also retaliated against me within the community and continues to harass me - just because I asked about masks. I have been nothing but a paying patron in their business and do not deserve to be harrassed politically. On the same public forum where I placed my one question, another person who had visited here from out of town asked the same question. Laura's response to her was "mind your own business."

Our flights: *Elkahol - I remember this one from years ago. It is still very good, great apple flavor, nice and sweet. *The Grateful Red - this was just okay, almost has a chocolate after taste, not for me. *BlackJack BJ - this had nice blackberry flavor, but we have had better blackberry wines, still good. *Slut Dog Sin - really good! Definitely got raspberry, but it was not overpowering. *Summer Daze - this was okay, it was definitely like a watermelon Jolly Rancher. *Spiker Dude - I am not a huge fan of coconut, so this one had way too much coconut for me. I got sunscreen at the beach vibes, definitely not for me. *Peachy Keen - this was very good, definitely peachy. *Bubba Lou's Choice - this was okay, definitely fruity. *Reel Good - I did not like this one. *Tattoo on the beach - this was okay, heavy on the citrus flavors. Favorites of the day were Elkahol, Slut Dog Sin, Peachy Keen, and Blackjack BJ. While Slightly Askew is not up there with my favorite NC wineries, they were still very enjoyable. They were super friendly, and are dog friendly on their patio areas. I would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Fantastic winery. Visited while we were camping in the area…read more Having visited 30+ wineries/vineyards in the past, Slightly Askew is easily in the top three. Both my wife and I like very dry reds. Most wineries that we have visited have had mostly sweet wines. Slightly Askew has a six wine tasting if just drys; two white and four red. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area. Very dog friendly with a water bowl on the deck and the owner brought out some treats (after asking if that was okay).
