My husband and I just stopped for lunch at 2 pm which is opening time according to website. We stand on the porch for 15 minutes waiting for door to unlock with another couple who arrived before us. Came here when it just opened and hadn't been back since. Took my kids and sister-in-law in May 2010. I had a bowl of clam chowder for $5. It was ok. It wasn't bad. I didn't want to spend a lot and was craving soup, so that pretty much limited me. They didn't have a lot of soups to chose from. My toddler had a chicken fingers kids meal for about $5 and it came with ice cream. You can't ruin that. My kid never complained. My other kid ordered a $13.95 seafood pasta dish (also why I got stuck w/ a cheap meal). He said it was delicious, but he loves pasta and scallops. It was also a huge plate. The kids love the pirate ship theme. It was pretty spacious; dimly lit. The waitress was friendly but forgot about us. They weren't that busy, so I'm not sure what was up with that. But she was always apologetic, so I overlooked it. An elderly man, whom we guessed to be the owner, did come around to check on us. It was ok. Decided to take my girlfriend here after hearing her talk about passing it so many times. She was excited as soon as we got there but it was short lived. The building was a good whimsical pirate décor reminded me of the dozens I have been to at the beach. Once inside the place looked like a ghost town. Only one other couple dining which is understandable being that we went at 3pm on a Wednesday. No staff in sight for the first 5-6 minutes. Hostess/server finally arrived to seat us and bring our drink order and hush puppies. She was the only staff we saw in our entire visit. We ordered the popcorn shrimp and the fried seafood feast. Potato was cold enough that it wouldn't even melt the butter. One very small strip of over cooked luke warm flounder on the seafood feast but tons of shrimp. The food wasn't that great but not the worst I have had. The main complaint was the ants that were crawling up the wall at our booth. I understand that sometimes things go unnoticed and in a dark heavily decorated place it could be hard to spot them right away. I decided it was time for us to go without even finishing our meal at which time the waitress brought our check. Trying to be polite I quietly told the waitress about the problem and the response I got amazed me. "Are they back again? We have been having problems all along that wall and can't seem to get rid of them." What amazed me was that this is a very large restaurant with a lot of different levels and tables. Everyone that was seated prior to and after us were all along the same problem wall. After reading the reviews, I was excited to try this place. We live less than 30mins from the restaurant, but have never tried it. We went for my birthday celebration and I am so glad we did. The building looks like a pirate ship with a pond with fish out front. The resturuant on the inside had was nicely decorated with pirate motif. They had no problem seating our big family. (I have five kids) The kids were given their own colorable menus with crayons, which kept them occupied. Our waiter was Robert and he was incredible from the start to finish. They bring out hush puppies first thing, which were awesome. The kids devoured them. The food was excellent. My son and I got the New York strip and they were both cooked to perfection. My husband got the lobster tails, which he loved. The kids got popcorn shrimp and steak. The kids steak was a good size portion. There was so much food, we took home to go boxes. Robert and the people he was training kept our drinks filled the whole time, checked on us constantly, and made the experience wonderful. We will definitely be back! This place is about as good as it gets in this general area for seafood, which is kind of sad. Being from cajun country in Louisiana, I have yet to find anything even close or satisfying. The first time I ate here (over a year ago), it was delicious. I've eaten there twice recently and both times it was far from what I had a year ago. My fish was so thin, it was mostly breading. This was the worst experience I have had at a restaurant in a long time. Keep driving to another exit or just go to McDonalds. Trust me. Poorly ran restaurant with an owner that has poor management. You can read about the owners story on the website and you would think it would be good but obviously he doesn't eat at his own restaurant. The waitress appeared to be new but obviously none of her peers cared or even the supposed manager that was sent over to our table after we received our main dishes, without silverware or the salads we should have had before the dinner. The steaks were cooked incorrectly and one dish was supposed to be a medium cooked ribeye but ribs were brought out. A good seafood restaurant has hush puppies but apparently we were told that it is like "piranhas fighting in the kitchen over the hush puppies" and she will try to get us some. I was given the last Corona but apparently the tariffs have impacted imports from Mexico too because they were out. But guess what, Food Lion down the street has coolers full of it. So poor planning, poor execution, poor management, poor ownership. We paid for our bill but the table next to us that got the same treatment from this joke of a restaurant, left without paying. First time ever eating here and let me say probably not coming back. We sat at our table many times without drinks for 20-25 minutes each time. Our waitress came to our table about 4 times in the almost 2 hours we were there. The first time to take our order, then to refill twice, and then to bring us our check. Then it took her 20 minutes to get our change to us. In the mean time of our visit she did have a party table and went to them 5x the amount of times she came to ours. I know what she was probably thinking, "I can get a big tip from this table!" Let me say just cause it's a party doesn't mean you'll get a big tip.
