    Bife a Casa Portuguese Steak
    Cliff F.

Yet another little hidden gem! You may be driving up and down County Street in Somerset a few times, but Just look for the Portuguese Cock-Galo de Barcelos! Once you see it you have arrived at Piri Piri Kitchen, "Uma Casa Portuguesa" as Amalia Rodrigues says! Amazing Traditional Portuguese food, whether you are in the mood for just Sopa, Bife a Casa, Filetes de Peixe, Bacalhau Gomes a Sá, Frango, or one of specials that Sandy may have just tossed up in her Portuguese Kitchen! It will NOT disappoint! You may not be able to wash it down with a Sarges, Vinho Verde, Vinho Tinto when dining there, but the fact that you you can top it off with any flavor Sumol may make up for it! Whether you eat there, grab take-out, or Door Dash you will be as equally satisfied and content! The only pre-requisite for dining at Piri Piri Kitchen. Must wear elastic waisted pants, or shorts, why? 1. All the food is good that you are going to be full 2. Any well fed Portuguese kid knows that Mae or Avó expects you to clean your plate. They wouldn't want it any other way! 3. AND you will want dessert when you have options of of Portuguese Rice Pudding, Flan, Pudim Maria, or a Chocolate Moose Bom apetite!

Their Portuguese steak and eggs is one of the best I've had -- perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and served with that authentic Portuguese touch that makes the meal stand out. Not to mention the papo-seco to absorb all of the yolk and steaks juices. The portions are generous, the food is fresh and delicious, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. It's the kind of breakfast that leaves you completely satisfied and already thinking about coming back for more. The waitress was super kind and attentive and genuinely felt like family. They have a limited menu, so two of us ended up ordering the same thing - the Surf & Turf $23 (our signature thin pounded steak in our house sauce with garlic and a red pepper. Served with 5 shrimp Mozambique, 2 fried eggs, rice and fries.). While the third went with the steak plate. The menu stated a $2 plate sharing fee, but we don't remember being charged for a mom and child sharing an order. The sandwich sized rolls that arrived as a bread course were room temperature and came with butter. Service was great. Portions were more than enough, though the seasoning wasn't to my taste

My favorite thing is the Camarao Mocambique . The sauce is phenomenal make sure to soak it up with bread provided. I got the Mariscada for entree and large portions. I took half home and had a wonderful lunch with it the next day. I also had the traditional flan for dessert that was good. On another visit I got the fresh goat cheese which is amazing. You cannot go wrong with a meal here. The setting is nice low light and good for conversations with friends and family.

We came in on a Friday night, party of two, and were seated right away, no wait at all. The complimentary bread and molho cru dip set the tone early and did not disappoint -- simple but delicious, and a great start to the meal. We also ordered the steamers in white wine sauce as an appetizer, and they were fantastic -- briny, well-balanced, and perfect for soaking up with the bread. For my entree I got the bife a casa, and the steak itself was cooked exactly to temperature -- really well done there. The rice and fries on the side were solid too. My one real complaint was the sauce: there was way too much of it, to the point where it soaked into the fries and made them soggy, and it was just overpoweringly salty. I don't usually shy away from salty food, but this was a lot even for me, and it took away from what was otherwise a great piece of steak. Overall a charming spot with genuinely good food and service -- I'd just ask for the sauce on the side next time. Would still come back for the steamers alone.
